Dating is Scary.
influxtwo13 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This started slow but interesting as a film uniquely from a male perspective. Featuring an allegory for the paranoia, distrust, and consequence that sneaks in during a rushed relationship and why it can be a bad idea to rush things with the wrong person. Be careful who you trust. Be careful who is controlling or consuming you. Dating is scary. The metaphor is laid on rather thick but that is what's fun about horror these days. The parallel between fact fiction & fantasy. The sketchy secrets and dark past that turn you off. Men can all relate to this. You meet the wrong girl and before you know it she is a stranger that you somehow know is a bad idea. We've been there fella's. The ending was a bit disappointing and the note it end's on wasn't my cup of tea. But the film leading up to it did hold my attention. This is like It Follows meets The Wretched meets Get Out meets Hp Lovecraft meets Invasion of the Bodysnatchers but not as epic. The tension was slow but good and the story, though predictable at least for me as someone who is naturally suspicious, is slow but tension-filled to the point that you might forget to swallow your own saliva watching. There is flaws, some less than stellar cgi, and a lackluster offbeat ending. But I enjoyed the allegory and the ride. This is a movie about why you shouldn't trust people. The acting was strong enough to carry this otherwise it would have been doomed. A small bite for fantasy scifi lovecraftian-inspired paranoia thrillers who aren't expecting much. 6/10

Not great, but it's a decent horror film that actually takes you somewhere!
deacon_blues-8863231 May 2021
While this film is barely better than mediocre, mediocre is better than so much of the mindless seudo-horror out there that leads you on a wild goose chase using merely atmosphere, symbols, and metaphors to nowhere!

At least we have a literal antagonist who threatens human survival and a clear, linear story structure with plenty to keep you guessing about what's actually going on.

I liked it!

Blumhouse - Just ok, but not quite bad enough to turn off
darrylmsmith17 February 2021
I have learned not to expect much from Blum House or Jason Blum movies. I am just happy for to watch the productions for what they are. Mediocre, barely watchable horror.

So.... if you just wanna watch something - go ahead, just lower your expectations, or best yer, expect terrible, and then you will be pleasantly surprised that it is reasonably watchable.

I just need a good horror movie, but I just find myself just waiting. Until then, I'll watch these.

Waste of time, and not just this episode
ethan-0911416 February 2021
I started this purely off of the description thinking it sounded interesting. As soon as the "Into the Dark" flew across the scene I knew I was going to be dissapointed yet decided to push forward regardless.

I enjoyed a couple instalments of the series; they weren't great but were at least somewhat enjoyable. The past few have made me question Blumhouse entirely. "Tentacles" is one of the more dry films-- forcing sympathy with extremely bland characters, filling what could be major plot holes with little explanation that rarely makes sense, and a truly awful script that just shows how much effort they are actually putting into this series.

Truly dissapointed and wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I hope they put more effort into the next one. Or at least hire decent actors.

Interesting thriller, not horror, movie.
hikeraz-2031021 March 2021
This movie, imho, had an interesting plot. The acting was pretty decent. The storyline was interesting and mostly it was complete. There are a few things I am still scratching my head about, but I don't want to spoil the movie.

Overall, I wouldn't classify this as horror as much as I would a thriller. There is a great plot twist near the end which I enjoyed.

Watered Down Blum Content
Nomad00722 February 2021
Pretty much everything TV wise from Blum productions is watered down dribble.

Slow, boring, nothing really happens. I'm not talking like in a good Hitchcock kind of way.

It's not just this episode, but basically the entire Into The Dark series. More so Blum's entire TV productions.

His studio really need focus on the major motion pictures that made him popular instead of trying to crank out watered down content with his name on it.

"Tenta-tickles"
Kamurai2523 February 2021
Really good watch, could watch again, and can recommend.

This shares a similar spoiler issue with Terminator 2, the adverts that try to make it interesting give away the "big twist".

Yes, it's low budget, but it does a lot with that budget. This concept is almost on the same level as "Fallen", it's brilliant.

The actors do what they can, and they're good, but I don't think they're great like the movie needs.

It has some great mystery elements to it, and is well worth the watch.

Not terrible but not great either.
ccaa-0980716 February 2021
In my opinion, Hulu's "Into The Dark" series always produces films that I find decent but never really good or great. Sadly, "Tentacles" is no exception. There are some scenes that are really well done. I like the score and the cinematography as well. The acting by the two main characters is competent and pretty believable as two lovers who slowly degrade into madness. The main problem I have with this film is the concept. It is never fully explained in the film and leaves me puzzled as to the entire plot of the film. There are quite a few noticeable plot holes and things that make absolutely no sense. It also stole the concept from The Crawlers, another Into The Dark episode but done a little differently. There are also a few scary parts here and there but it's more a pyschological thriller than a horror film.. Overall, acting and cinematography are.good, the plot and concept are below par. Just a meh from me.

[7.5] The ear lover
cjonesas13 June 2021
A nice episode with mini gorish flow, an evil beauty (the underrated Dana Drori), some fresh fillers and an interesting premise, which was not explored further!

It deserved at least 2 episodes of its own.

It's just dumb
ten-thousand-marbles28 February 2021
The "Into the Dark" Hulu series is hit and miss. Some of them are quite entertaining. Some of them stink. Other than "Pooka!" (I can't believe they made a sequel) this is the worst of the bunch. The story is just plain dull until the last half hour, and at that point any hope of salvaging this mess is gone. The script and acting are pathetic. If you're a fan of the series like I am, I'll save you the utter disappointment that is this movie. Skip it.

Beautifully crafted psych thriller. You can feel the evolution of the characters, their love for each other and the more sinister processes taking place inside them.

It was pretty good
bangel332220 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show is very hit and miss. It only has a handful of decent episodes. The second season has been quite weak, but this episode I actually enjoyed. I think maybe if they had recast the main girl it might have been better. I don't think she pulled off the character well enough. The guy played his part really well. I know they explained the history of Lina/Tara and Alice and I get that Alice took over as Lina/Tara but still I would have liked a little more information about that. Overall it was good. So far the best episodes have been: The Body, Pooka, All That We Destroy and Uncanny Annie, with All That We Destroy being the best episode of the 2 seasons. Still waiting for this show to produce something better than that episode.

Fool me once or seven times...
thesar-215 February 2021
HULU'S BLUMHOUSE'S INTO THE DARK SERIES PRESENTS: TENTACLES (2/10 Stars.) Look, at this point, maybe I want punishment. This series of "horror" and bad special effects is just awful and no one should see any of them.

Granted 1-2 of the 7 I've seen have been decent and this one started off pretty good with the female half's great charisma and the male half who seemed to just show up from the UPGRADE set, and then they remembered this was horror and tried so hard to horror. Failed. Just as bad as the laughable CGI.

I kept waiting for a satisfying conclusion, but the story is ALL over the place and continues to spiral out of control until the last frame. I suspect the writers where high or coked up and just kept writing for 129 hours straight. SKIP IT!

Horrible
patrickkeown15 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If you're expecting a horror movie, you're going to be disappointed. There's isn't anything 'tentacle' related about this movie until the last act and by then you're ready to scream, but only from the slowness of it all. Don't give this movie your time. It isn't worth it.

Yummy Lead Actor
BethLovesHorror3 November 2021
I dug the first three quarters of this film. The lead actor was easy on the eyes which was much appreciated. What I also appreciated was how this movie jumped right into the storyline from the beginning. I hate it when movies bore me from the getco and take forever to hit the gas. This one did not do that. Where they lost me was at the end of the film. The delusions got too wacky dacky and I feel like something big was lost because of it.

Into the Dark - Tentacles - Need more of the tentacles.
bviessman-340606 April 2021
I was excited to see a new installment of Into the Dark series appear in My 'recommended'. Also, to note for those who are confused on what holiday this is supposed to represent. I am going to take a stab, Valentine's day since it was appeared or dropped on February 12. The story started of solid. It leads you to believe Tara is the person your following, and she escapes something horrific. The relationship with Sam escalates quickly. I did like this installment, but there were not enough tentacles and, or gore or blood or action. It also ended ok.

Weird but entertaining
DreamVividly5 September 2022
I like weird and bizarre and this was definitely in that genre. As for it being a horror it wasn't really scary it was more of a strange sci-fy thriller. There were plot holes for sure and still a little mystery left at the end. It could have been better with a little more back story. And it probably could have all been summed up into a short film. But overall I was engaged and entertained even as it started out slow. I rather enjoyed the creepiness of it. And honestly I love films/shows that end with vague endings. It leaves more to the imagination and requires you to think for yourself. Not everything has to be wrapped up in a perfect package. I give it a 7 for Casey's acting and just the overall bizarre factor.

vallonella8 November 2021
Okay, first of all I love this series, BUT this episode was a big question sign for me. I was just watching, but my brain didn't understand what it was all about?! This was the worste episode.... no meaning, boring, no logic. It felt like "okay guys we have to make a movie, so let's colletct ideas", and they put together all ideas, I think this is ehy this was so messy for me. If you skip this one, you won't miss anything!

Average.
atwiththestars12 September 2022
The beginning was interesting, but the middle is a whole lot of drama romance stuff which was ok.

The story takes time to build in a way that I was kind of bored at times and when the ending came I kind of saw it coming from the beginning.

The ending is satisfying and interesting enough that I would like to see another episode with the creature characters involved.

Maybe an origin story for the creatures. They seem like H. P. Lovecraft like creatures so something like that. I wish they spent more time on that aspect, but they didn't. Too much romantic drama.

Summary: This was kind of slow. Decent acting and writing. Decent direction and special effects. Just not enough horror elements to be more than average.

I really wish this was available on iTunes or Movies Anywhere!
tailsofthewind25 February 2021
The other INTO THE DARK title I wish I could buy, just off the top of my head, is Danial Stamm's DOWN starting Natalie Martinez. Gosh, I hope I remembered her name correctly.

They would still have Hulu and INTO THE DARK on them, but it severs the umbilical cord. Probably what they don't want, but it's not like I'm canceling my service, it's more like I'm getting rid of my landline phone at home.

I have a huge digital collection, and I want to add these two gems to it. Help me out here.

Been there done that
jimwt663 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This wasn't a bad movie. The acting and script were fine but no award winners. My problem with this was that it had no surprises. As soon as she acted a little off the first time I was positive what the ending was going to be.

The only question I have is why were certain people not taken over but others were? Was it just a preference of their lifestyle? I can see why the one armed guy was not taken over. He was in an accident that removed him from her. But the guy that was chasing her why was he not taken over? That would have made more sense. I guess it was a lazy way of having the new guy find out about what was going on.

Anyway, it's kind of a slow burn type film. Nothing extraordinary or fast paced. The tentacles CGI was kind of lame and they used shadows to show things changing instead of the actual switch.

I'd recommend watching this if nothing else is available but wouldn't go too out of my way to see it
kevin_robbins2 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Tentacles (2021) is a recent Into the Dark picture that was added to Hulu over Valentines Day weekend. The storyline focuses on a woman hired to fix up a home for a guy who almost immediately falls in love with her. They both have troubled pasts but they feel their future can offset their troubles...until their past arrives on their doorstep. This movie is directed by Clara Aranovich (Yosemite) and stars Dana Drori (Freaky), Casey Deidrick (Teen Wolf), Evan Williams (Awkward) and Kasey Elise (The Dispute). The storyline for this was interesting as the characters were well presented, acted and written; however, the horror elements in this were poorly presented and it feels more like an angry scammer lover movie than it should have. You definitely get tied to the characters but the ending dramatics unfortunately fall short and the ending ends up being a bit unfulfilling. I'd recommend watching this if nothing else is available but wouldn't go too out of my way to see it. I'd score this a 5.5/10.

This is a complete snorefest.
blondeblue129 August 2022
I usually like most of the "Into the Dark" episodes, but I can recommend this one for one thing only: putting insomniacs to sleep.

Nothing happens but a lot of blah, blah, blah endless talking between two really boring people. Maybe something interesting happens eventually. I don't know, and will never know, because I couldn't stand it any more and turned it off halfway through. This is easily the worst one of the series.

I don't know why it keeps telling me this review is too short, because I see a lot of reviews that are no longer than this one. Six hundred characters is an awful lot to use to say what is a very simple truth, that this episode of Into The Dark is really not worth watching.
