Genius storytelling once again...2ND BEST ep. of the SERIES
ajc51023 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I always try to keep my reviews as unbiased as possible, but as a superfan of this show I am unfortunately going to have to break my rule for this review. After watching this masterpiece I couldn't help myself... so I apologize in advance for the sappy novel you are about to read.

Yes there are many episodes to choose from that you could argue are the best. Personally, nothing will ever touch episode 4x15, Self Control, but this episode is a very close second.

I know a common occurrence amongst fans that review this show is saying " it just keeps getting better and better." Which is certainly the case. Since episode 1X17 this has been one of the most underrated and engaging Tv shows on the air. The writing and the characters just keep getting better... But we have reached a point where it is starting to get unfair how good this show is.

This show, more than any show I've ever watched, has always had the incredible ability to land the funniest comedy, the most suspenseful drama, and also some of the most emotional scenes in the span of 40 minutes. And this episode just may have executed all of those things perfectly. As a whole, this episode completely showcases what Agents of Shield is about and I couldn't have been more entertained.

Ya the "groundhog day" trope has been done many times, but I am amazed with the creative spin and the tone and pace the writers created for this episode .First of all the comedy. Daisy and Coulson have always been my favourite duo. And this had some of the funniest moments of any episode. Clark and Chloe's acting was some of the best its ever been, comedically, but also dramatically. I am glad they got to spend a lot of time together this episode... they haven't had as many scenes together as I'd like for the final season, but this episode alone made up for it. After all, this show has always been centred around the two of them.

The acting has always been what separated this show from the rest of its superhero show competitors. Clark Gregg and Chloe Bennet are obviously the stars of this episode but holy cow Elizabeth Henstridge is a rare talent. Not only did she direct one of the greatest episodes of the show as her directorial debut, but the scene where she has the implant taken out and remember where Fitz's location is some of the most impressive acting I have ever seen.

And last but not least the Enoch scene. One of the most heartbreaking scenes of the series. Joel Stoffer has played the role of Enoch impeccably, and his last scene here capped it all off. The dialogue between him and Coulson and Daisy had me wrecked, and the way the writers intertwined the shows main theme of family and the different views on death were just beautifully executed. Goes back to Coulson's speech to Sibyl in 7x06, after she mentioned choricoms cannot die ... Enoch had "all the good human stuff" he had sacrificed himself twice now. Genius storytelling.

Every TV show has a scene in its final season where you think to yourself "oh no we are finally coming to the end". You never want to think that, especially if you are a fan of these characters as much as I am. We got scenes like that in season 5 when they thought it would be the final season and they executed it perfectly... but we were blessed with two more years of adventures. When Enoch says to Daisy, "this is your last mission together" it finally sunk in. This show is ending in three weeks, and this amazing episode made me appreciate once again how lucky I am to have experienced it.

Let's do the time warp again...
GomezAddams66623 July 2020
I am incredibly happy we got a Daisy-centered episode, but even happier that a time loop story was well-crafted.

When you deal with time loops there is always the prospect the story gets convoluted, but when you have an expert team in front and behind the camera, the experience is amazing.

This series is dolling out its greatest episodes on its final season, which is a monumental achievement as the stakes have been raised high, and every single entry this season has been up to ask to outdo its predecessor.

Nine episodes down, four to go.

Could not have been better

The episode keeps focus, doesn't get repetitive and has amazing acting and directing. An interesting, fun, funny, intense, heartbreaking, high stakes ride. Absolutely amazing. This is one the best episodes if not THE best of this show ever. Fantastic.

GREATEST EPISODE OF AOS
brendan-courtney23 July 2020
I have watched all episodes of Agents of Shield, from the beginning on. In all of them, this is without a doubt, the single greatest episode of the series. From its uniqueness, to its emotional gutpunch at the end, to it being just a perfect hour of television.

INCREDIBLE episode! Flawless! Sci-fi is my fav genre, time travel is my fav sci-fi sub genre...but time loops get me every time! This is not only the best episode of the whole series, but it likely one of best episodes in all of television. That ending tho...

I am speechless!
noorea-8514723 July 2020
This episode was beyond my highest expectations, like I got excited for a time loop episode because I love those but man did Agents of shield play that trope for all it's worth, with super high stakes, shocking amounts of dark humor and one heartbreaking scene that left me shaking. Amazing writing, great directorial debut for Elizabeth Henstridge and awesome performances across the board!

The best episode so far!
daniel-music199823 July 2020
It's so sad that AOS is coming to an end. A show I've been watching since the very beginning. Here we are just 4 episodes from the finale and this Source Code style episode was incredible. Couldn't take my eyes off the screen, this episode is the definition of perfection and probably one of the best episodes in all of television!

Best episode ever!
westbeng23 July 2020
Wow! Just wow! Hard to review while not spoiling but this is without doubt one of the best, most heart wrenching hours of TV I have ever seen. They should recommission this show just based on this episode. Joel Stoffer is beyond brilliant in this episode.

That this show and The 100 are in their last seasons; they are unique and irreplaceable sci-fi shows.

Episode 709
bobcobb30131 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the best episodes of Agents of SHIELD in season 7 and it might not even be close. The show is still a shell of what it once was, but this at least had the good elements of a TV show: they had a lot of funny one liners thrown in and then a really strong sci-fi premise of the cast in a time loop that put pressure on a bunch of the individuals.

Television should not be hard to write, fans just want something fun and entertaining to watch and we definitely got that tonight with "As I Have Always Been". Let's hope we can get a few more episodes of this quality before the show wraps its run.

Terrible
azcdk24 July 2020
Yet another episode of stolen ideas from other sci-fi shows and stories. I realize people don't like negative comments...but as a fan of sci-fi and various other genres, I must say that these episodes and the entire series has been a shameless rip-off off of other peoples writing.

Amazing episode! Only problem is enoch isn't that strong.
Sherif_Ali123 July 2020
Enoch is a chronicom , he is incredibly strong i get that. But so is daisy which literally saved the world in season 5 from a very powerful villian. Agent may almost beat enoch however he didn't even wanna fight then. Yoyo is so fast she can basically lock him up anywhere in a sec. But other than that , it's an amazing episode.

Imagine being and established directors...
aarongnr26 August 2020
And having Elisabeth Henstridge come in creating the best directed episode of the show on her directorial debut. lol.

Great stuff, I hope she does more directing in the future, this episode was very refreshing.

Might be the second best episode of the show for me, only topped by the season 5 finale.

I'm Still Crying
Anonnamus26 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This will probably go down as my favorite episode of the entire series. I'm now actually angry that the show was cancelled. Why? There are 50 versions of the same crime procedural dramas, why not leave shows like this alone? I am also shocked to learn that this is Elizabeth Henstridge's directorial debut. What a way to break out. Enoch had become one of my favorite characters, and the ending had me sobbing. Why couldn't it have been Mack sacrificing himself for the team? I would have a much less puffy face right now. Time loops are my absolute favorite plot device and AoS did not disappoint. LMD Coulson was at his best, too, especially when he showed nothing but annoyance during the entire episode. I love Clark Gregg. Everything about this episode was amazing. I can't say enough positive words about it! I think I'll rewatch it right now.

kiwiispurrrfect23 July 2020
This episode was hilarious, dramatic, exciting and heartbreaking all rolled into one! It flew by, I was so sad when it was over. It's been a strong season so far in my opinion, but this episode has definitely been the best of them.

Quite possibly the best episode ever
drosenfeld23 July 2020
I rarely leave reviews, but I felt compelled to do it for this episode. I'm a fan of time-loop stories, but this one is particularly well-done. The performances, the dialogue, and crucially, the editing are all top-notch. Editing is key in a time-loop story, to give the impression of the passage of many loops that we never actually see. The episode is surprising, funny, and poignant, and worth watching more than once.

One of the best of the series
KristenBellFourEver23 July 2020
Many shows will inevitably have the groundhog day type episodes during their run. and I was surprised it took Shield this long to have such an episode. But now that it's finally aired it certainly did not disappoint. This will go down as one of , if not the best episode in the series. Elizabeth's directoral debut is nothing to look over either. She has some serious skills, behind and in front of the camera. I hope she's able to pick up another role soon after this. Amazing episode. I've watched it twice already. In what's been a pretty average final season thus far, this episode is a definite standout.

Warning: Spoilers
Oh, dear. I loved this episode that started out at regular speed but kept going faster as Daisy did more loops. Very fast-paced, very nice. My favorite episode this season, no, my favorite episode ever. Even the part where Enoch dies, because it's such a beautiful and brave way to go out. What a good character. And don't get me started on how this is the directorial debut of Elizabeth Henstridge. Very impressive.

Phew, that storytelling
malik32425 July 2020
I was NOT expecting this episode to be so deep or hit so hard. Enoch, you're the man/bot. Time loops can be extremely corny and trope-y; I actually groaned during the revelation of the first loop (that we get to see). But holy smokes did they turn this episode around. Without spoilers, the finish to this episode will have you in your feelings, or at least your thoughts. jeez bro. What a debut for Hentsridge at the helm.

Amazing Episode
samanthagjulich25 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is AMAZING. It's hands down one of the best episodes in the show, if not THE best. The directing by Elizabeth Henstridge was so well done and the entire episode was very tense. I loved how well they pulled off a time loop episode. When I first found out what this episode would be I figured it would be boring because it would repeat the same stuff, but damn was I wrong! I'm glad the show will be ending with such amazing episodes.
