Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: As I Have Always Been (2020)
The best episode so far!
It's so sad that AOS is coming to an end. A show I've been watching since the very beginning. Here we are just 4 episodes from the finale and this Source Code style episode was incredible. Couldn't take my eyes off the screen, this episode is the definition of perfection and probably one of the best episodes in all of television!
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015)
An emotional thrill ride, an outstanding finale to the global phenomenon!
An incredible finale! It is incredibly difficult to accept that the franchise has come to its end. When the movie had finished, I felt the way I did after the final Harry Potter movie ended. The Hunger Games is a franchise I can keep watching from time to time and in a few years will become nostalgic and remind me of my teenage years. Mockingjay as a whole is so much different compared to the first two movies but Part 2 stood out with it's realistic war atmosphere and all the emotions evoked with a war. Jennifer Lawrence stood out again in her role as Katniss with Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth giving memorable performances too! There was so much suspense, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Plenty of action and a gripping story line. Stays true to the book, I highly recommend this epic finale. After seeing the first movie in the franchise I was immediately captivated, it is sad to think that it's all over, just like Harry Potter. Outstanding performances from such a wonderful cast and fantastic directing, as well as an amazing music score! I can't decide if this film or Catching Fire is the best one in the franchise but every film was well-done and I consider The Hunger Games to be right up the top there with Harry Potter for best franchise!
Ted 2 (2015)
Hilarious sequel! MacFarlane delivers another comedy masterpiece!
After re-watching Ted 1, I had high hopes for Ted 2, if Seth MacFarlane could conjure another film as satisfying as Ted, we'd be in for a treat! The cast were terrific, with Mark Wahlberg, Seth Macfarlane and Amanda Seyfried in the lead roles, I knew we were in for an interesting comedy. I'm not a big fan of Mark Wahlberg and Amanda Seyfried but this pairing worked very well in Ted 2. Of course they had to have Liam Neeson in it and Morgan Freeman too. Whilst some of the jokes were sloppy, some of the sexual references were funny as hell, very crude and very funny. Sometimes I wonder how these sexual references and crude imagery on-screen actually passes as a 15 certificate but there we go. Overall, an incredibly funny film, a gag a minute. Hilarious comedy sequel, I'd highly recommend it to fans of the first movie and to fans of Family Guy of course!
Taken 3 (2014)
Taken 3: Packed with action and Liam Neeson, what more could one want?
Taken 3 was a brilliant thrill ride with solid action scenes and a great storyline. Liam Neeson once again amazed me with his particular set of skills. Sure the first 20 minutes were fairly dull after the beginning sequence and opening credits but Taken 3 delivered on so many levels. Very emotional and very real, a couple of twists and turns here and there with possible ways of making Taken a quadrilogy, although this film moves away from the whole "Taken" idea. Lots of fast cuts which made the action difficult to follow but the sequences were prolonged and Taken 3 is much better than its predecessor and equally as good as the first Taken film. Taken 3 was more dramatic and powerful than Taken and Taken 2 with a gripping plot and a surprising ending. Very unexpected but there could be room for another Taken film. Liam Neeson is by far my favourite actor and although 62, still delivers an amazing performance that's believable on-screen. This film is very different to its predecessors and was fantastic to watch. Again, they cut the film down to secure a 12A rating but years ago there would be no way that this would have secured a 12 certificate, it's far too brutal and some of the needed realism like blood spurts were needed, but of course cuts had to be made. A fantastic finale, it may not even be a finale, for me it deserves an 8/10. Thoroughly satisfied, so underrated and delivers in many levels that the first two films didn't.
Family Guy: The Simpsons Guy (2014)
2 Comedy Classics coming together with an excellent result!
This one started off slow but the two blends of humour worked well. There were some classic Family Guy and Simpsons moments in this episode, I recommend fans of either or both shows to watch this very special episode. 45 minutes of fun for me, not much of a plot but the episode was crude, well-written and brilliant. The Simpsons has a much lower target audience than Family Guy which made me think that this crossover wouldn't work but surprisingly, The Simpsons Guy delivered. Younger viewers who are fans of the Simpsons won't be able to watch this, simply because of the level of violence at the end which spoilt it a bit and of course the frequent sex references. Fans of Family Guy will love this and older fans of The Simpsons will love this too, the crossover was overall well executed, funny and current.
Really enjoyed this special episode!
Big School (2013)
Brilliant British Comedy, well written and hilarious!
Big School is a fantastic comedy show starring David Walliams, Catherine Tate, Philip Glenister, Francis de la Tour and Steve Speirs. Each episode is well written and each character stands out for me. Mr Gunn is particularly hilarious with some of the comments he makes, much to the disapproval of Mr Church, Mr Gunn reminds me of Jay from the inbetweeners a bit. And the Greybridge teaching staff wouldn't be a school without head teacher Ms Baron played by Francis de la Tour. Almost everything Ms Baron says is an instant gag plus with the Walliams and Glenister combination, Big School makes for a wonderful comedy show with gags every minute! Catherine Tate as Miss Postern makes the show for me, without her, there wouldn't be frantic quarrelling between Mr Church and Mr Gunn in almost every episode. There's heart-warming moments in the series as well as well crafted dialogue between the teaching staff, Series 1 episode 4 being my favourite episode so far!
It's a 10/10 for Big School, I would highly recommend it, although it can be crude at times so only to those 15 and up! Can't wait to see the last 2 episodes in Series 2 and hopefully Big School will return for a Series 3 next year!
The Inbetweeners 2 (2014)
A satisfying sequel, excellent fun!
After waiting a week to see if once it had been released in cinemas, I left the cinema with a smile on my face, there were moments that will stick in my mind for a long time for all the right reasons but there were a couple of moments that will stick in my mind for the wrong reasons. Neil played by Blake Harrison is as funny as ever and provided the most gags, Will played by Simon Bird was just brilliant and Simon and Jay were great too. The first movie had a very happy ending whereas this movie's ending disappointed me a little. This movie should not have been a 15 certificate, back years ago this would definitely have been an 18 certificate. BBFC said that the cut version of The Inbetweeners 2 was a 15 certificate but when I saw it in the cinema, there were 3 scenes that I saw that I were supposed to be cut, maybe my cinema showed the uncut version of the movie instead of the cut one.
Anyway, this movie was great, a few predictable moments but overall hilarious, crude, enjoyable and great performances from the cast. It's amazing how much these 4 characters got away with saying in this movie.
Taken (2008)
Action-Packed Tense Thrill Ride
One of Liam Neeson's best performances. Taken was the movie that helped me discover that Liam Neeson is one of my all time favourite actors. It was brutal and gripping, with great cast. A 90 minute thrill ride for me, intense and action-packed. If you didn't think that Liam Neeson could be an action star, you were wrong. After Schindler's List, Neeson's performance in Taken is the most memorable of all his performances. I've happy that they're making a 3rd Taken film. The first 2 were great, especially this one. Taken is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again and not get tired of the action.
I was surprised that Taken was an 18 certificate in the UK when I've watched films like Kick-Ass 2 and Prisoners which are rated 15 but have much more graphic violence in.
No complaints for Taken, a definite must-see movie.
Friday Night Dinner (2011)
Excellent Comedy Series, well written and hilarious!
Friday Night Dinner is an excellent sitcom starring Tasmin Greig, Simon Bird, Paul Ritter and Tom Rosenthal. Paul Ritter who plays Dad is particularly funny and provides the most gags in each episode. One of my favourite shows on TV! I've never laughed so much watching some of these episodes. All 3 series are funny, crude and extremely well written. I prefer Simon Bird in this role as Adam than I do as Will in The Inbetweeners and I love The Inbetweeners so that's saying something. Nothing but praise for Friday Night Dinner. Jim the neighbour is also brilliant, the idea of him being frightened of his own dog makes me laugh and Jim is just hilarious and awkward.
Outstanding series, I would recommend it highly! It's a shame we only have 3 series, I really want more of Friday Night Dinner.
