Decent film, well directed.
FilmloverAlex27 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Without leaving too much information about the movie itself, I can tell you it's basically a story about a family on their way for vacation. Due to traffic jab, the father takes a short-cut, and they end up on a road to nowhere. On the road they meet a stranger and take shelter at his guest house and things start getting terrible for the family. This whole premise is very exciting I think and it could have been done a lot better all around. Having said all of that, I respect what the directors tried to achieve. There was enough substance and to keep me watching through the end but largely because Jaaved Jaaferi, Vijay Raaz and Rishab Chadha gave life to the realistic character, a few things that it could've gone without though. Here are the very few good points - As mentioned the acting is decent, especially Jaaved Jaaferi as the father and Vijay Raaz as stranger. Very well directed. Dialogues are fabulous. Cinematography is good. Background score is good. Negative points - The movie is not very scary. The characters of Rahul ( Girls boyfriend) is annoying. The VFX is not good. Second half is slow-paced. However, It was satisfactory enough for me to say that it was a decent horror movie.

Nice flick but not that much scary.

Warning: Spoilers
The whole movie was a typical horror story that has been done so many times. A man, along with his family on vacation and on the road the car breaks down. They meet stranger and take shelter at his guest house. And after that the nightmare follows for the family. It was kinda 'being there, seen it all' type except for its brilliant performances by Jaaved Jaaferi, Vijay Raaz, Rishab Chadha and Niki Walia. The story was not that great. Dialogues were very good. Most of the scenes are very slow and i liked it. Special mention to the director for treating the emotional scenes brilliantly. Background score is good. Cinematography is average. VFX was not good. What is missing is the horror part. Few jump scares are there but not enough for the horror genre. Having said that, I gotta confess that I wasn't bored by this film. It was relatively watchable. Good effort by the makers of LUPT. 6/10

Another decent recommendation from Netflix.
itsNetaDubey7 June 2020
It's a little slow film. A family on vacation are lost Their family member are killed. A claustrophobic story with an excellent performance by Jaaved Jaaferi, Vijay Raaz and Niki Walia. The boy who does prank is also very good in the film. The scares were... well there weren't many. Don't expect Lupt to be an exclusive horror film. Its a thriller and focussing more on emotional drama. like i said its a slow film. The direction is not bad. Story could have been better. what i liked the best is the title song. Very well composed. The makers should have promoted the title track of the film instead, they heavily promoted "Bhoot Hoon Mai song". The ending was a little fumbled, but otherwise it was quite enjoyable for me. 6/10

Not scary, but still a reasonable effort.
ShetalNair21 May 2020
During lockdown the only entertainment was watching movies. Got to see Lupt on Netflix. There were some common horror cliches here. No network, car breakdown, getting lost on a strange road. However, I think that thats the case with most horror films. Moral of the story - always follow the known road and don't take shortcuts on trips because people that are close to you will either get murdered by a ghost, or go crazy, do something stupid and kill themselves. Nothing really special. Jaaved Jaaferi was good, Vijay Raaz is always the best, Rishab's comic timing was not bad, others were average. Story could have been better. Dialogues were ok. Direction was not bad. VFX not good. Although the plot twist was slightly predictable this was an overall one time watch for me. Giving 5/10

Not bad for one time watch.
MeRajaniAhuja9 April 2020
The story line may be little week but the actors make everything really interesting to watch. The Sam character doing prank is enjoyable and he gets sympathy as the film progresses. Direction is good. The end could have been better. Vijay Raaz is very good in what ever he does. Dialogues given to him are nice. But in horror genre its interesting to watch a clean film with family members. Giving 5/10

Not a bad movie.

Watched this Hindi movie with subtitles and like sat through. Acting of some actors are good. The direction is neat. It is emotional film. Yes not scary. Simple story. The background music is good but in some places its little loud. VFX could have been better. This father character acted very well and the stranger on the road also acted very well. Like the momentum of few scenes. giving 5/10

Well I was pleasantly surprised with Lupt

Warning: Spoilers
Before I watched the movie 'Lupt" I went thru a number of viewer comments. Most of them were positive so I decided to watch this movie on Netflix and I'm not surprised that it has been reviewed so highly. Lupt was something different for me. The script had substance, characters were realistic and dialogue were nice. Good direction. Many have complained that the film is slow-paced and i loved this aspect of the film. The movie, in my opinion, was quite good and the plot was better than most horror movies. The way in which characters were killed was believable. The characters, by the time of their death, became pretty well developed, and the few characters and the unchanging scene of forest and darkness really pulled you in and made it all the more frightening. Its was more of a psychological thriller for me. However, if you're looking for a very scary movie with a more box office hit feel, and good special effects, this is definitely not what you'd want to see. But I will appreciate the director who attempted such script in the horror genre. Will will rate this movie 7/10

It was a good little thriller movie.
MasterMindJatinJain24 March 2020
I liked the movie because with a fair amount of suspense and twists. But it not that great either. So I'll admit that it isn't completely worthless. I think for its budget its a fairly decent movie. I will say that I liked the whole usage of the car. The script could have been bit better. Direction is not bad. Acting is decent. Over all a good timepass for me to see something different in horror genre.

More a psychological drama than a traditional horror movie.
Sanjay_Tripathi12 June 2020
Be aware, this is a slow burn atmospheric horror with FEW jump scares and an emotional horror movie. So if that's not your thing, best skip it. But damn is it pretty decent film for me. I haven't seen many horror film which emphasises on characters and its story. LUPT, It doesn't end up as well as it starts out, but the ride there is exceptional. This movie though while keeping a decent atmosphere, delivers not many scares but delivers some good performances by great actors like Jaaved Jaaferi and Vijay Raaz. Their performances left positive impressions, few scene caused genuine fear in me, and the writing was pretty good. As i said its emotional drama. You can most certainly pass on this one if you are looking for typical horror. I enjoyed this slow paced horror.

I was expecting it to be Horror movie, turned out to be a thriller.
iamajeetmenon21 May 2020
My friend suggested me to watch Lupt saying it's a good horror movie. I have read some good reviews about this film. So took a chance and watched Lupt on Netflix. I wanted to see horror in the film, but it turned out to be a thriller for me. Not that movie is bad but its not my kind of film. Yes, the premise was good, but it is more of drama and some lengthy scenes. I don't think typical horror fans will like this film. The movie should have been promoted as a thriller and not as horror. Maybe I watched the full film because of Vijay Raaz and some good scenes of Jaaved Jaaferi. I am giving 5 stars for only for its decent acting and to the director for taking so much effort and making a film. If the director could have managed to tweak the story and make it a hardcore horror ,it would have been worked according to me.

Slower Paced Movie, but liked the simple story which is well executed.
mepranavsharma20 March 2020
I liked the nuances of the character and the setting. Movie has slow pacing, does not mean that the movie is bad. It is intriguing and entertaining. It todays time who would make such movie. But the director went out of the way to dare and make this film. It has no sex and no item numbers. Its straight to the point. Few scenes are very well treated. Like the character of Vijay Raaz. Jaaved Jaaferi is loud in some scenes but he is performed very well. He has never done such film in his life. Liked the intensity in his performance. Iam in the spree of watching all horror movies at home now.

Nice Movie and good directorial debut.
aakritibansal26 June 2020
I saw the ratings here and prolonged watching LUPT. I usually find few Bollywood horror movies with unnecessary songs and sex, so keep myself away from such movies but with my friend's protests, I gave it a go. This film isn't going to make me think about it for days but it did hold my attention whilst watching it. Overall I felt this movie was better than the typical horror movies that come out every year. The story is not new but its presentation is very good. Again not for hardcore horror movie fans as this film is character-driven and not that scary. I am a great fan of Vijay Raaz. He is fabulous in the film. But his culmination in the film could have been better. It may not be the perfect horror film, but the spooky atmosphere, brilliant acting, great sound effects, decent cinematography and good direction make up for the drawbacks in the movie. I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews of a few critics and watched it with an open mind. As Directorial debut of Prabhuraj, I would say he has done an excellent job in "Lupt" and has a bright future ahead. I've rounded the number to 7 for its effort in making a decent psychological thriller. Overall I liked the movie.

Average !!
muradbexton29 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was ok for me! Basically this family, are on vacation, they stop to find a stranger on the road. They decide to stay at the strangers guest house and the mystery begins. Average writing, average acting, it's all just average for me. There should have been more twist to the story. The direction is not bad. The title track was good. You could do without watching the movie, but you still could give it a try for a decent plot and some very good scenes of Vijay Raaz.

As a viewer of horror genre i have seen many films which i couldn't watch it with my family but Lupt is something which you can watch it with your family members. It's a family horror. To see engaging cast like Javed Jaaferi and Vijay Raaz together on screen was one of the best combos. There are no dull scenes in the movie. The movie was properly executed. I really liked the concept of road trip horror. Also credits to the director for making a decent horror film and also to bring such new concept to the audience.

Slow-paced supernatural thriller.
el76 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
There is some psycho-drama in this movie, but make no mistake, it is a ghost story. There is never any doubt that ghosts are in the movie. They show up randomly to surprise the living characters, and there's a reason these specific two keep appearing, a twist that is not revealed until the third act. The first act introduces us to Harsh, the patriarch of a well-to-do family also including his long-suffering wife Shalini, his daughter Tanu who is in love with a photographer, and his son Sam whom Shalini coddles and who can't lay off the pranks. Harsh is a workaholic who is aware that he is seeing people who nobody else can see, but he thinks it's just stress. Shalini wants the whole family to go on vacation before Sam leaves for college overseas, but Harsh initially doesn't want to go, until his psychiatrist recommends that it might help him with his 'seeing phantoms' problem. On their road trip they meet a mysterious dude named Dev, and it turns out he's keeping something under his vest too, but the movie misdirects the viewer as to what that is. The film looks like it's being set up as a cabin in the woods story, but it turns out that Harsh has a couple of skeletons in his closet that caused the whole thing. On the way to this revelation are a lot of family confrontations that would have more impact if these people didn't come across as kind of silly in their priorities. The ghost makeup is a bit too harshly lit to be convincing. The best scares involve a doll in a pram that keeps showing up in places it shouldn't have been able to get to. Once you know what the ghosts want, the film's plot falls neatly into place, but it took a little too long to get there.

It's new and well directed film. But slow paced.
Shreya_Gupta8 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
During Covid-19 my agenda was to obviously watch movies. My routine is to search movies on OTT platform. Got to see this movie LUPT. First thing is first, this is NOT a straight on horror movie. And mind you its a slow film. I will call it a psychological thriller. This was one of the nice movies I have seen in the thriller genre. it's basically a story about a family on their way for a vacation. Due to the traffic jam, the father takes a short-cut, and they end up on a road to nowhere. In between few funny scenes by the character of Sam (Rishab Chadha) who played Harsh Tandon son ( Jaaved Jaaferi) , it would go dark and give you a claustrophobic feeling. This whole premise is very exciting, but it could have been done a lot better all around. Anyway's the overall theme of the movie is good. The script could have been better. Dialogues are good. Some of the lines given to Vijay Raaz is outstanding. dialogue. With average story Lupt goes in the right direction and cast people who are amazingly talented to watch on the screen. The father and the son are the good , It gave some smile to me when Sam appeared on the screen. The daughter Tanu ( Meenakshi Dixit) did a good job in emotional scenes. There was enough substance to keep me watching through the end but largely because Jaaved Jaaferi, Vijay Raaz, Niki Walia, Rishab Chadha and Meenakshi Dixit gave life to their character. Other actors were average and nothing special to mention about them. I'll give a thumbs up to the directing though, for creating a eerie feeling, on this isolated road and some very well directed scenes. With better support behind the director, he can really make a name for himself. To conclude everybody may not enjoy as the exceptions of just horror will disappoint many, but i really enjoyed this slow paced movie. Giving 7/10

Poor film, No real story line.
Hmj59917 October 2021
I thought I'd give this a try as the plot description seemed interesting. How wrong was I. Massive waste of time, there is so real story with any explanation, there is no reasoning for this "ghost". Things just happen for no reason and nothing adds up in the whole film, it also has copied lots of parts of other Hollywood films. Generally the story just lacks any actual cohesion and doesn't make any sense. Avoid it. This could have been a decent film if they had actually showed more expiation for everything happening and a better build up, however they leave all the explanation till the very end of the film, until then everyone has already lost their interest in the movie.

An Interesting Take !!!
mesagarkulkarni20 May 2020
It's a little slow but i enjoyed. I wanted to see more of Vijay Raaz's scenes. He's incredible and all the movies are great that he's in. Jaaved Jaaferi is good as well in this movie. Minakshi Dixit was good. The dialogues and characters' demeanour are genuine and authentic. Loved few scenes. some scenes are very slow and thats the beauty of the film i believe. I found Sam's character to be annoying, but he quickly turned creepy throughout the film. Direction is not bad. What i dint like is theVFX part, they could've done a better job. Second half could have been edited a bit. Having said that, I gotta confess that I wasn't bored by it. It was relatively watchable. My rating 6/10

Decent script and well executed.
SAMUEL_BENSON9 May 2019
I watched this movie Netflix by chance. I just watched it because of the trailer and plot line. Iam not a big horror fan but yes iam fan of Vijay Raaz so i was curious to see the film but deep down, i new it was not going to be great as most Bollywood horror movies are generally without any story and the emphasis is only on sex and songs but to my surprise the movie turned out to be decent and enjoyable. May be i liked this film because of its simplicity. Also i liked Jaaved Jaaferi performance and loved to see Niki Walia after long time. I was big fan of hers when she used to do television. Minus some actors other acted very well. Let me say again that the film is not very very great but there is something very nice about the plot and execution yes and satisfying for me. Just watch the film without any expectation of major horror and you will love the story and thrill aspect. Kudos to the writer, director who tried something different for his directorial debut film. Im going with 8/10

The story of a good horror revenge is a must watch. There were few scenes which were predictable and some very unpredictable. Seeing Javed sir after dhamaal franchise in a horror thriller, playing a serious character and showcasing different types emotions are a treat to watch.

Decent Bollywood Supernatural thriller.
iamamitvyasfilmy4 May 2020
During lockdown was searching for a horror movie and came across Lupt on Netflix. Lupt is a decent movie and yes not very gory and thankfully no sex and unnecessary songs. Direction is good, screenplay is good but storyline is same old and cliche. I liked Niki Walia and Vijay Raaz. Jaaved Jaaferi at some scenes i felt he over acted or may be the scene demanded. Rishab Chadha was good. Meenakshi is not bad. others were average. Overall it is a decent bollywood horror.

Neatly Done, Low budget movie!
iamnarendrachuhan19 May 2020
It's a decent thriller about a car breakdown that delivers a very interesting ghost story. Usually I don't enjoy horror movies because most of them are typically made masala movie, but this one is what I always expected from such a movie, a decent story told in a simple manner yet kept the interest with good performances. Loved the performances of Jaaved Jaaferi and Vijay Raaz. Rishab Chadha kept entertaining. Niki Walia comeback was good. Rest were average in their performances. Direction is not bad. I loved the slow pace of scenes which not everybody will enjoy. For me, it worked. Giving 6/10

Liked the film but it's not for typical horror fans.
Chandrakant-Nair22 June 2020
Now this movie truly deserves the term 'Psychological Horror'. It's exactly how a good horror movie has to be. Suspenseful and intriguing storyline. Very well directed. I don't want to reveal any spoilers here, but wanted to see more of Vijay Raaz. I enjoyed this film because I like to see content based cinema. Above all my parents loved the film. Good film during Covid-19. But mind you, If you are a hardcore horror fan and love Slasher Movies then Lupt is not for you. You will be disappointed. This film is more on emotions and on the lines of Thriller and not just a typical horror movie. The director tried to tell a decent story which was very well supported by brilliant actors like Jaaved Jaaferi, Vijay Raaz, Niki Walia and Meenakshi Dixit. Thankfully there is no songs to disrupt the story. Yes, it had an opening song which was used for promotions. I loved the title song. Technically the film is good & successfully enhances the thrilling effect for the audience.
