Poltergeist (1982)
Classic Horror.
As close to perfect as it gets, tense and engaging, great acting and outstanding special effects that still hold up today. Produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper. A classic.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Brilliant !!!
The Blair Witch project was one of the first and most successful found footage films, and it remains one of the best. The chillingly realistic premise and performances help the film overcome a general sense that not much really happens.
Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
Good !!!
Annabelle Comes Home is really slow, but maybe that's the way it was meant to be. The ending of the climax isn't too exciting but the scares are fun here combining with old music, making for an effective addition to this universe. There's a good Easter egg and other things are well in it, especially forgiveness and what not.
Lupt (2018)
It's new and well directed film. But slow paced.
During Covid-19 my agenda was to obviously watch movies. My routine is to search movies on OTT platform. Got to see this movie LUPT. First thing is first, this is NOT a straight on horror movie. And mind you its a slow film. I will call it a psychological thriller. This was one of the nice movies I have seen in the thriller genre.
it's basically a story about a family on their way for a vacation. Due to the traffic jam, the father takes a short-cut, and they end up on a road to nowhere. In between few funny scenes by the character of Sam (Rishab Chadha) who played Harsh Tandon son ( Jaaved Jaaferi) , it would go dark and give you a claustrophobic feeling. This whole premise is very exciting, but it could have been done a lot better all around. Anyway's the overall theme of the movie is good. The script could have been better. Dialogues are good. Some of the lines given to Vijay Raaz is outstanding. dialogue. With average story Lupt goes in the right direction and cast people who are amazingly talented to watch on the screen. The father and the son are the good , It gave some smile to me when Sam appeared on the screen. The daughter Tanu ( Meenakshi Dixit) did a good job in emotional scenes. There was enough substance to keep me watching through the end but largely because Jaaved Jaaferi, Vijay Raaz, Niki Walia, Rishab Chadha and Meenakshi Dixit gave life to their character. Other actors were average and nothing special to mention about them. I'll give a thumbs up to the directing though, for creating a eerie feeling, on this isolated road and some very well directed scenes. With better support behind the director, he can really make a name for himself. To conclude everybody may not enjoy as the exceptions of just horror will disappoint many, but i really enjoyed this slow paced movie. Giving 7/10
Martyrs (2008)
Interesting concept and story
This is one awesome film, it takes you on a ride for sure and at the end it really messes with your head and leaves you gob smacked
[Rec] (2007)
One of the best horror movies of the 2000s
This film is the perfect argument for the found-footage genre, distinctive characters with reason (somewhat) for the camera to roll and seriously nail-biting moments, which can be attributed to the hand cam style. A slightly annoying addition at the end, but I cannot deny that the ending set piece is petrifying.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Good Concept.
Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey both have stellar performances and Michel Gondry did a fantastic job directing. Plot was a tad confusing, but easy to catch on to after watching more.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Tarantino does it again!
One of the best movies of 2019, The acting in this movie is great, the story is awesome, and it's cool how this film takes place in the 1960's. It's a throwback to an era in history, even with all it's faults, there still remains an innocence in American culture that has long since past. Thank you for still making movies for people who love them.
Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Enjoyable
A modern day fairy tale which takes you back to watching disney movies with your parents. You can't really imagine any other actor playing the role of Edward Scissorhands than Johnny Depp. It's also probably Winona Ryder's performance outside of Heathers. I suspect there's also a lot of meaning to the film since it deals with someone that doesn't fit in. His desire to fit in and other peoples reactions to him are the cornerstone of the film. In some ways this is not dissimilar to the Hunchback of Notre Damme which has a similar metaphor.
