This is the end of an era
GomezAddams66615 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Season five of this series has come to an end in one of the most eviscerating ways possible.

We learned last week that Thawne has been helping Nora all along with the hopes they would destroy Cicada's dagger, and therefore stop his imminent and well-deserved execution in the future.

Team Flash had the choice of letting Thawne die or save him and thousands of metahumans, so of course they chose the latter and then went to the future to stop him, but by stopping Cicada they created a new timeline where Nora would not be born, and we get to suffer next to Barry and Iris as Nora disintegrates right in front of their eyes, but she says that she is taking responsibilities and thus she becomes a hero in her own right.

Jessica Parker Kennedy has been an amazing addition to Team Flash, her portrayal of Nora West-Allen has been so refreshing to the series, and I am sad to see her go but hopefully this isn's the last we see of her, the timeline is malleable after all.

I am emotional but I give this episode 10/10, by far one of the Greatest Episodes in the entire Arrowverse.

Until we see you again, "Run, Nora, run."

Incredible season finale that brings a satisfying conclusion to the story arc
Holt34415 May 2019
After a pretty okey season, a season that have been better cause of the characters and the addition of Nora which gave the series a fresh take on Team Flash. But with the writers having Cidada as the big bad for the whole season have been what have made this season bad is the overall writing around the villain but it paid off at the end with making The Reverse Flash the true villain of the story as he's the best Flash villain and the smartest one if you don't count The Thinker, it made the whole season worth watching after all the great character moments.

The season finale was one of the best episode of the season if not the best, giving us a satisfying ending to the story arc and a great battle of both the villains, Cicada and Reverse Flash against Team Flash. Gregory Smith directed the episode with such thought and perfection, making it interesting from start to finish. Visual effects was actually pretty good this episode, some of the season's best. The acting was also one of the highlights, everyone giving their best performances but Tom Cavanagh did the best, he's truly one of the best things about The Flash and I hope to see him again in the next season in both acting and directing. Incredible season finale after an alright season. The season finale does as Arrow did with hinting about the crisis to come which I can't wait for.

Best finale since season 1

I didn't have high hopes for this finale judging by the last two. But boy it proved me wrong. It may not have had everything I wanted but it had a lot of great moments that made up for it. Great conclusion to an awesome season

Nora's farewell
ninjaboyballer16 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Overall, this episode I thought was a great conclusion to this good season of the flash. The stuff with Cicada II stuff was pretty decent, but the main standout this episode was Thawnes break out of prison. Even though it was short lived, it was still awesome to see Team Flash go up against Reverse Flash again. But as a result of the dagger being destroyed, Nora is erased from existence, choosing not to give into the negative force to save her and living with the consequence of her changing the timeline. I'm really going to miss Cisco though, as he takes the cure and seemingly abandons the mantle of Vibe to go live a normal life. That scene was really moving, but the most emotional scene of the episode is Nora's farewell message. It's in this scene that I realized Nora had completed her journey into becoming a hero just like her dad, and the people that loved her guided her from who she was before time traveling to the point were she disappears. And in the end she was a hero.

Overall the flash and arrow both delivered on solid emotional finales and great setups for Crisis(which by the way is going to be insane!) Final rating for this flash finale: 9.6/10

Great episode followed by a weak penultimate episode and a slow season!
asb_deutsch31 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
2018-19 hasn't been the best of years for the Flash. Viewership has declined and so did my ratings. What else can be better and bigger than Season 5 ? I have learnt new terms like reverse hack-time! I am extremely happy that the writers killed Nora's character. Acting from Team Flash was great. I hope they rest some characters as it is getting too crowded. Kamilla Hwang's character was a distraction and totally unnecessary. No need to add forced-romance in the next season.

For Season 6: The Once and future Flash was also directed by Cavanagh. He is not only a wonderful actor but one of the best TV directors. If anybody deserves a seat in the director's seat, it's Tom Cavanagh for TV just like Nolan for movies. He finally removed the soap opera drama and fused the entities of previous seasons. The optimistic, pessimistic, and pensive tunes fall at the right places. I wish WB would hire him more often as he understands drama 10x better than other directors. I wish WB would hire Tom Cavanagh as director for Season 6. In my humble opinion, GodSpeed and The Reverse Flash should be the super-villains.

I hope the writers will push the envelope forward instead of dragging it into a soap opera. See you Flash fans on 8th October 2019!

INCREDIBLE
vinihdavi15 May 2019
It was not hopeful for this episode, since the last two Finals were very weak, however, this episode surpassed all the expectations and is for me the best season finale of the whole series, the combo made in the reverse flash was incredible, Jessica PK and Candice Patton simply stole the scene bringing a very strong dramatic mood to the episode and finally The Crisis Arrived At ARROWVERSE

A finale which suffered the same problems as the whole season...
Hei_Shibing15 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This season has been an exercise in the writers carefully sidestepping obvious solutions in order to prolong a tired storyline - without this, Cicada would not have lasted so long. Let's face it Cicada (and Shecada) should have been a freak-of-the-week villain, as he/she lacks the substance - and, quite frankly, the powers - to feature as the villain for the entire season.

Some of the sidestepping obvious solutions that were shown in this episode:

They can build a vault, force field, or any other "what ever the writers are calling it" powerful enough to indefinitely contain ANY villain, with ANY meta power, but they just couldn't go that extra millimeter and create a force field that could withstand Cicada's fancy dagger for more than a couple of minutes. Or how about just keeping her in the force field, separate from the dagger, since you have managed to separate him/her from it a zillion times

Dibney was able to figure out Thorne's plan before Sherloque, and even after Dibney left some significant clues - like, y'know, throwing his body in between the dagger and the blasty thing - Sherloque was still slow to catch on

Nora can run fast enough to reverse time; Barry can run fast enough to go back in time AND create speed mirages - but none of them are fast enough to search "one of the largest wooded parks in the country". So, how do they defeat their biggest enemy yet (the wooded park)? Walk slowly, on foot, using Cecille as an empathic detector. "We must be getting close", someone quips, after - how many hours of trudging through the woods. Terrible, terrible writing, and, as I've said, sidestepping the obvious solution

There was somewhat of a payoff when it came to the showdown with Thorne, but that is entirely down to Tom Cavanagh and his ridiculously impressive ability to carry a scene

This was a yawn-fest of a season, but I will watch season 6, if only to have something keep me occupied while I'm eating lunch

So once again Cicada is out to kill more people but rather than do what needs to be done once again they go and beg Grace to PLEASE let them give her the cure so they can save the lives of innocent people..Five seasons in and Barry is still a castrated emotional jelly spineless male..So many great stories that could've been told and they decide to go this direction.

A dumb finale for another bad season.
EddyTheMartian00715 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately The Flash still hasn't returned to its heights from seasons 1 and 2. This season seemed like it was going to be an improvement over Season 4, but in retrospect at least that season had some standout episodes. Most of this season was just redundant, dull and boring. Regardless of my opinion on this season, this finale was slightly better than I expected. It's definitely better than the last finale, but still not a good finale.

The first half of the episode deals pretty quickly with Cicada 2, and finally defeats her in a way that makes me question why she hasn't been defeated before. There isn't a lot of logic in this show left. It's no secret that The Flash doesn't make a lot of sense. From time travel, to power inconsistencies this is to be expected. The first section of the finale was weak but serviceable. I didn't care, it wasn't done particularly well, I was just waiting for Thawne to return. By destroying the Dagger, they save Nora and they finally beat The Flash's worst pair of season long villains. Eobard can now use his powers in his cell, where he has a pretty awesome scene where he kills all the guards. However, once again the timeline makes no sense, considering if Cicada is stopped right now the Dagger would've never made it to be with Thawne anyways, so he most likely wouldn't be in prison. Regardless of time travel making no sense, we do have a cool confrontation between Reverse Flash, Nora and Barry. We get to see how much more powerful Thawne really is, in ways that show once again how inconsistent this show is, but I'll let it slide because it's Thawne.

In the stupidest and most inconsistent moment of the show Team Flash finally manages to do something useful and actually have a showcase of their powers and team work, and somehow beat Thawne... that's right, the show's biggest villain, in less than an episodes. Once again it makes me wonder how they basically defeated Thawne, but took a whole season to beat Cicada. Turns out Nora is being erased from the timeline and she dies! Good Riddance. Jessica Parker Kennedy actually did a good job as Nora this season. The issue with the character is down to the writing and directing for making her act like a child, but regardless of that I thought it was one of the only good scenes in the episode. Barry and Iris in desperation, while Nora accepts it. One of the best moments in a while.

The rest of the episode is really just saying our goodbyes to characters, and setting up potential future arcs. First Sherloque leaves, and finally acknowledges Ralph as the detective he has always been. Once again it makes me wonder what was the point of having this character in this season at all if Ralph is literally the same character. Time and development was wasted on a character we will most likely never see again, while Ralph barely did anything of importance this season. We then get Cisco's farewell, which should be sad, but I honestly just don't care anymore. You can clearly see throughout this season that Carlos Valdes just isn't enjoying himself in the role, and that really reflects on his character. His send off was set up in a pretty sloppy way, but it is still somewhat sad to see a once great character leave. There is some good news about 3 characters leaving. The show is going to be free to focus on its core characters now, which has been a problem for most of this season.

Anyways we get one last send off for Nora before we see the Crisis tease, which was anticlimactic considering most of us knew that the timeline change it to 2019. Overall The Flash's Season 5 finale is a weak one. It isn't a good finale, there isn't really much to praise, but there isn't as much to complain about like last season. It just kinda left me there indifferent like most of this boring season.

Great ending to a very underrated season.
prometheus198701 January 2022
To be honest I don't know why this isn't 9/10. It's a great ending to an up and down season. Don't believe some of those 2/10 stars reviews, they have no real substance on exactly why they given their rating. Yes this season has been a been up and down, but it's better than season 4 and it's ending is much better than that of season 3. Any episode reverse flash is in always has a nice story.

I agree that cicada is a terrible full time villain for a season, this season would have been amazing if we had a much more evil villain. But it's a great end to a very underrated season. This season may not have been the season 1,2 level but it was still entertaining and emotional.

Warning: Spoilers
This was the only episode of the season that the Cicada part wasnt dragged. It was solved in the right way. I liked the attention to detail to Eobard's powers. How he was using his Negative SpeedForce to siphon from Barry's and Nora's positive ones, making him slightly faster but Barry was still able to catch him, he used a Speed Mirage and that was an ability that hasnt been used since season 2 of The Flash. Thhe fight scene was awesome and looked like something comicbook-like. I guess now we know why Thawne never dies "The negative speedforce isnt affected by timeline changes". These scenes after the fight were very emotional, even though i dont like Nora i got a little sad, i got completely sad for Cisco, and Joe got what he deserved lol. Little set up for the crisis, lets see what happens on season 6 of The Flash.

Nora is finally gone!
valentin-iljukic8 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This season finale was all around just fine. We finally see Nora dying and that's the best thing in this episode. Nora as an actress did the job excellent but the writers made her look too childish and irritating that it wasn't fun to see her character. We also see the comeback of Thawne what can make the season 6 really great and enjoyable. This series needs some good villain. Cicaida was just a weak villain comparing to the Reverse Flash. Now the show has the opportunity to concentrate on the main characters and develop the story telling and writing!

The Flash delivers yet again and gives Nora West Allen an emotional send off!
RahulM00715 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The Flash season five finale fittingly titled Legacy was an emotional rollercoaster ride. The episode had multiple scenes that were emotional. My favorite one was when Nora got erased from the timeline. It sparked great performances from Grant Gustin, Candice Patton and Jessica Parker Kennedy. Those actors can really act out emotional scenes perfectly. The other scene was with Cisco and Caitlin. Even though, I disliked the fact that Cisco gave himself the meta human cure, it was still great seeing Caitlin having doubts and caring for her friend.

The episode concluded the Cicada 2.0 conflict. I thought that they handled it quite nicely. Nora going into young Grace's mind again was exhilarating and painful to watch. Grace Gibbons has gone through so much pain and suffering. It seems reasonable why she wants every meta human to die. The only way to stop Cicada was to destroy her dagger. Destroying the dagger released the Reverse Flash from Iron Heights.

The fight sequence between Team Flash and Reverse Flash was phenomenal. It came to no surprise that the Reverse Flash got away, but he will presumably be back for Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Sherloque Wells returned to his Earth where the love of his life is waiting for him. I find it quite strange that he married the same woman on different Earths.

Cisco got his happy ending with Kamila. He will probably not be a series regular next season as the actor wants to work on other projects.

Joe West has officially been named Captain of the CCPD. The future newspaper article we saw way back in season 1 slowly comes to fruition.

Much like Arrow, The Flash ended its season finale with a huge Crisis on infinite Earths teaser. It teased that the Flash will vanish in 2019 and not in 2024. The timeline has been altered by both Nora West Allen and Team Flash. Let's see if the other Arrowverse shows will tease Crisis on Infinite Earths.

To conclude, The Flash wrapped up its best season in a fitting way. I wonder who the villain of season 6 will be. Will it be the Red Death or Godspeed? Or someone completely different?

The ultimate showdown.
jaythezoomster18 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The Flash season 5 has been a really good season in my eyes. I thought Orlin's Cicada was a good villain for the majority of his tenure and while Grace isn't anything special, she's not overly awful.

Season 5's finale manages to tie together two plots with ease to the point where I feel bad I ever worried for it. It was daunting to go into "Legacy". The finale had to tie-up Grace and somehow manage to give a compelling end to the Reverse Flash storyline and I was honestly worried he'd just escape at the end of the episode and we'd have to wait for Season 6 to see anything.

Thank God I was wrong. "Legacy" wraps up Cicada's arc perfectly. I personally adored the scene where Nora convinces Grace to take the cure as the two versions of her uncle try to talk to her. I felt like it was a great wrap up to the character and made me a little bit more okay with Grace as a concept.

Grace's death was also great. I think it was solid how Barry in the last minute was able to use the mirror gun on the dagger, destroying it and killing Grace in the most cathartic way possible. I was pleasantly surprised when we were done with Cicada halfway through and moved on to Thawne.

This half of the episode is amazing. Thawne's conversation with Barry and Nora was brilliant, the tie back to the 100th episode made my heart happy and the big six vs one fight really capped everything off. Nora's ceasing to exist was a completely expected plot point but I expected her to return so the fact that she stayed dead was great in my book.

The ending scene with Nora dying is one of the best emotional scenes the show has pulled off in years and seeing her refuse to use the negative speed force to help herself so she wouldn't become like Thawne was heartbreaking.

The wrap up for the season was done terrifcally. Sherloque's goodbye hit me harder than I expected, Cisco's exit is one thing I'm not entirely on board with but it fit with his arc this season and Singh's exit worked well especially his final scene with Barry.

The last scene with Nora's message to Barry and Iris truly worked to end off the season on a bittersweet note as the show looks forward but also embraces the past. But that's what season 5 was always about, right? Legacy?

Overall, "Legacy" is an amazing top off to a season which I thoroughly enjoy. Thank you, Flash, for giving me this season.

Might be a show whose time has passed. Warning: Spoilers
Like the season ender for ARROW, the Season Five finale for THE FLASH was a tearjerker, as all of the plot threads for a very long season got wrapped up, but not without sacrifice and heartbreak, and a resetting for the next season. There was lots of action and close calls, and somehow, it seemed like each member of the now very large cast of heroes got their moment - some moments longer than others.

The episode, titled "Legacy," was split down the middle; the first half concerned the showdown with Cicada, the Big Bad of the season, and their plot to destroy every single Meta Human. Frankly, for me, Cicada, whether it was Grace or Orlin Dwyer, just didn't cut it as a villain, certainly not one capable of carrying the whole season. Their motives were flimsy at best - a Meta Human who blames other Meta Humans for them being a Meta Human - felt like bad comic book writing at its worst. And as it turns out, Cicada was basically a McGuffin holder, as things were really being manipulated the Biggest Bad of them all, Eobard Thawne - the Reverse Flash - from the future, where he was awaiting execution. The second, and by far the best, half of the episode was an epic confrontation between the heroes and Thawne, one that had a satisfactorily bittersweet resolution, one that centered on Barry and Iris's daughter, Nora, who had been revealed as Thawne's cats paw earlier. Nora was somewhat of a polarizing character for some of us fans, a creation of 21st Century TV writers who ignored the huge West and Allen family canon from the comics. Personally, I would have much preferred to see Bart Allen in her place, but in the end, Nora redeemed herself in way worthy of her family name.

Still, there was something tedious about this whole fifth season, and I couldn't help but feel that maybe THE FLASH is showing some drag. I was a huge fan when it came on the air back in 2014, happy to see one of my favorite super heroes back in a TV series, capably played by Grant Gustin. But after nearly five years, this show is episode after episode of endless buildup, small payoff, repetition, bad acting (especially by Chris Klein in Season Five), and a general sense that it is simply running on cruise control. With the arrival of the DC Universe, with shows like TITANS, the CW/Greg Berlanti style of storytelling now feels like something whose time has passed.

Still, there will be a Season Six, and hopefully the cast will return, most of whom have settled into a familiar groove - I do like Hartley Sawyer, who kills it every week as Ralph Dibney, and Tom Kavangh as whatever iteration of Harrison Wells he is playing. Season Six promises to finally reveal the long hinted at catastrophe where Barry vanishes, it's the TV version of Crisis on Infinite Earths, and in the comic, that didn't end well for Barry Allen. Somehow, I think it will be different for the TV Flash, either way, despite what I said, I will be watching.

Running Off Track
hellraiser728 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Warning do not read unless seen episode.

Don't usually do these reviews, but as I said before sometimes, I just got to get it off my chest.

First order of business the season finale, it was ok it's not one of my favorite season finales in my book, but at least it wraps things up and sort of sets up for next season, but due to most of what has occurred it really kind of hampers this finale. There are some good moments like seeing how everyone caught on to Thane/Reverse Flash's plan in the end and pretty much applying the breaks on it. There was also a good/decent battle with "The Flash", "Excess", and "Reverse Flash". Of course, in the end "Reverse Flash" is let go of again due to not messing with the timeline (that is if it's still remotely intact).

But of course, after this battle it was not without a cost as we see Nora starts to disappear, or at least the version we see. It was somewhat sad seeing just some of the emotion both Barry and Iris were going though, even some of that final message both see. Though I'll admit I honestly didn't feel too bad Nora (version 1) was coming out of the picture because to me she messed with time too much and practically toyed with fate and now she's paying the price. Though I'm sure that we'll see Nora again as there now living in a new timeline (I think) but it will a different version which would make her Nora 2 and hopefully a better version.

Alright now that's out of way, here comes the toxic waste dump for the season. What the hell did I just watch, really what did I watch, the show is called "The Flash" right? This season was just way off track, the sad thing about this season was it could have been good, the plotline isn't bad as it's one that's been done throughout the years in several shows like Season 2 of "Sailor Moon Classic" or in its other title "Sailor Moon R". But unfortunately for this season of "The Flash" the execution was poor as it just constantly took too many wrong turns on the track it was running, most that easily could have been avoided even by a novice.

Nora Allen/Excess was just as John McClane puts it "a fly in the ointment, a pain in the ass". She really sucks, the sad thing about her and the storyline was it could have been good but she's not, she just comes of really really stupid but worst of all kind of a b.... most of the time for no good reason. I really hate the fact that she collaborates with "Reverse Flash" on training her in her powers and to change the timeline, I remember thinking "Hello, this guy killed your Grandmother, he's a fraking psychopath you can't trust him." This really hurt the character for me and made her less sympathetic, seriously she couldn't of contacted any other characters from "The Flash" or just the DC verse in general to train her like oh I know "Supergirl" or better yet "Superman" which would have been awesome and makes more sense as both have super speed.

There was way too much focus on her, she was obviously made out to be the main protagonist of the season, though may 'be more of an antagonist as a lot of what she's done was damning, like changing the timeline too much which may have not just altered things in ways we can't imagine but also might have cost lots of lives. This show is called "The Flash" not "Excess" or "Excess and the Flash", this season was an excess no doubt excessively bad.

I really don't like what some of the writing was doing with Iris, it really felt like character assassination much like part of what they did with Ang in Season 2 of "Legend of Korra" which is one of the reason that season was not my favorite. It's almost as if most people on the staff hate the character and we're writing her bad on purpose. I get the flak toward a character; we all have a character or two that's not on our favorites list to each their own. But you should never let that throw your objectivity on a series, in which this season clearly lost. It would of Iris along with Ralph (whom was hardly in the season) have a subplot, it would have been interesting if there was an actual mini arc on both of them traveling to the future as both realize that something in the present time line is amiss and is somehow connected with Nora. I don't know at least something as both characters really had not much to do, it's the same with everyone else.

There were way too many plot holes but worst of all also plenty of opportunities lost. From the simple fact that most of the main characters including supporting characters we know really have not much to do or aren't even in the show that much.

Or even the mere fact that red flags should have been raised when Team Flash was around Nora, as all of them seemed to of blindly given their trust to someone they hardly know, much like Scott and his pack giving their trust to Theo in "Teen Wolf" Season 5 another terrible season.

Despite Sherlock Wells (one of my favorite versions of Wells and only good things about the season) the one that was doing the internal affairs work on Nora, there were several times and chances when any of the other characters could have contributed as well. From that one episode when both Barry and Iris go into Nora's head and saw "Reverse Flash" in her mind or even Cecilia with her psychic ability could of picked up something, let alone Ralph being the detective he is should of also smelled something fishy, you get where I'm going with this

My last gripe is Cisco/Vibe whom is my favorite character in "The Flash" I really didn't like the character drama subplot because it was totally out of character on him making a metapower cure and wanting to cure himself of his powers. This was just a big insult to both the character and fans; I know that their trying to write the character off because the actor is leaving but this was just lazy writing at it's worst. There are better ways to do it, let alone isn't hard and respectful of the character. It could have been seeing Cisco/Vibe going into business for himself, heck Ralph is a Private Detective and has powers so if he can do it, why couldn't Cisco?

Hopefully, next season they can get back on track. Overall the season finale was ok, it's not going to make my favorites list of season finales in my book. As for the Season 5 of "The Flash" I don't recommend, this is a season that places dead last.

Season Finale Rating: 2 and a half stars Season 5 rating: 1 star

Nora is gone! I hope...
mecong-378-2927013 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Finally Nora is gone. What a relief. She was the worst comic book character on TV ever. A 25 year old spoiled teenager who never learns anything. Played by an overrated actress with just two facial expressions - frog and bullfrog. The Flash needs to go Arrow or it will end soon. Please let Nora be gone and don't make her reappear.
