The Flash: Legacy (2019)
Season 5, Episode 22
4/10
A dumb finale for another bad season.

Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately The Flash still hasn't returned to its heights from seasons 1 and 2. This season seemed like it was going to be an improvement over Season 4, but in retrospect at least that season had some standout episodes. Most of this season was just redundant, dull and boring. Regardless of my opinion on this season, this finale was slightly better than I expected. It's definitely better than the last finale, but still not a good finale.

The first half of the episode deals pretty quickly with Cicada 2, and finally defeats her in a way that makes me question why she hasn't been defeated before. There isn't a lot of logic in this show left. It's no secret that The Flash doesn't make a lot of sense. From time travel, to power inconsistencies this is to be expected. The first section of the finale was weak but serviceable. I didn't care, it wasn't done particularly well, I was just waiting for Thawne to return. By destroying the Dagger, they save Nora and they finally beat The Flash's worst pair of season long villains. Eobard can now use his powers in his cell, where he has a pretty awesome scene where he kills all the guards. However, once again the timeline makes no sense, considering if Cicada is stopped right now the Dagger would've never made it to be with Thawne anyways, so he most likely wouldn't be in prison. Regardless of time travel making no sense, we do have a cool confrontation between Reverse Flash, Nora and Barry. We get to see how much more powerful Thawne really is, in ways that show once again how inconsistent this show is, but I'll let it slide because it's Thawne.

In the stupidest and most inconsistent moment of the show Team Flash finally manages to do something useful and actually have a showcase of their powers and team work, and somehow beat Thawne... that's right, the show's biggest villain, in less than an episodes. Once again it makes me wonder how they basically defeated Thawne, but took a whole season to beat Cicada. Turns out Nora is being erased from the timeline and she dies! Good Riddance. Jessica Parker Kennedy actually did a good job as Nora this season. The issue with the character is down to the writing and directing for making her act like a child, but regardless of that I thought it was one of the only good scenes in the episode. Barry and Iris in desperation, while Nora accepts it. One of the best moments in a while.

The rest of the episode is really just saying our goodbyes to characters, and setting up potential future arcs. First Sherloque leaves, and finally acknowledges Ralph as the detective he has always been. Once again it makes me wonder what was the point of having this character in this season at all if Ralph is literally the same character. Time and development was wasted on a character we will most likely never see again, while Ralph barely did anything of importance this season. We then get Cisco's farewell, which should be sad, but I honestly just don't care anymore. You can clearly see throughout this season that Carlos Valdes just isn't enjoying himself in the role, and that really reflects on his character. His send off was set up in a pretty sloppy way, but it is still somewhat sad to see a once great character leave. There is some good news about 3 characters leaving. The show is going to be free to focus on its core characters now, which has been a problem for most of this season.

Anyways we get one last send off for Nora before we see the Crisis tease, which was anticlimactic considering most of us knew that the timeline change it to 2019. Overall The Flash's Season 5 finale is a weak one. It isn't a good finale, there isn't really much to praise, but there isn't as much to complain about like last season. It just kinda left me there indifferent like most of this boring season.
