Not for everyone it seems
jamesjpherman25 June 2022
I find this episode incredibly enjoyable. A dance off dream sequence demonstrating one new characters powers, surreal humour all around, a fight sequence and good character building.

Anything with magical, pseudoscience superhero logic surely calls for one to suspend one's grip on reality. So I don't understand the bad reviews. But I like it.

A pretty good start
Sherif_Ali122 June 2022
The umbrella academy is great but the previous 2 season's have roughly the same plot. I think this is gonna be equally as good probably even better because besides saving the world now we have 7 new characters with 7 new powers. Maybe some are gonna be friends while some could be foes so thats gonna be interesting.

Now that's how you start a season
Kingslaay24 June 2022
I am so excited The Umbrella Academy is back. Things were left in such a cliffhanger in the last season. What a great way to kick things this season. My favourite moment was the Footloose dance off scene, I did not see that coming and found it very entertaining. Only this show can turn things on its head and make you laugh. Despite being rated an 8 I still feel this show is criminally underrated. What an exciting way to start and so interesting how this season will play out with two families.

Season 3
quukfcr22 June 2022
I see that they have changed Elliot Page's name to correspond with the transition he has gone through in real life, which is absolutely understandable . But still why change the character's name to Viktor? Vanya (Ivan) is a Russian mens name, always has been. Why not change to Ivan? Would make more sense.

A Great Start To Season 3!
wiccanrebel24 June 2022
I think this episode was great... Too many people complaining about the differences... I give the writers and actors/actresses credit for being able to venture into new territory and create awesome new story lines, with each season... As far as the Vanya to Viktor transformation goes, I give HUGE kudos to Netflix for working Elliot Pages real life transition into the story! Of course there are going to be negative comments/reviews by the narrow minded and hatefully ignorant transphobes... It must be such a bitter and empty life, being so narrow-minded and hateful.... Oh well, I wouldn't know...

Great start! Warning: Spoilers
This was a solid opener, with crazy, dumb and entertaining scenes. The sparrow academy is amazing, I liked the characters, but come on, are you going to kill number one so quick? They made me like him only to kill him first, lol. Good story in my opinion.

Nice opening
DutchReviewer25 June 2022
The first and other episodes delivered exactly what you can expect from the Umbrella academy. Chaos, fun and unexpected plot twists. Klaus just steals the show, agian, in my humble opinion. Maybe the third series are a little bit too crowded with story lines and characters

Nevertheless there is nothing wrong with the series although the main story line starts to get a little bit too predictable. But there is still a lot to enjoy.

VERY STRONG START
agentsofsword23 June 2022
That 21 minute opening was some of the best things that happened in the show. The footloose sequence was so much fun like the rest of the episode but i think it dragged out still amazing just maybe they could've cut the song in half and not do the entire thing. The sparrows had a great introduction most of the cgi feels polished it looks great the ending is quite shocking a strong start i hope it continues.

Fever dream
Calicodreamin22 June 2022
This entire episode felt like a fever dream, wtf is even going on? The new characters are interesting and the actors fit. The storyline however, is hanging by a thread.

16 Siblings?
djt-207578 July 2022
Nobody has questioned how/why there are only "16" siblings born in October 1989 in this episode when the pilot episode clearly states there are 43???????????

Dilightfully crazy as usual, but still not very good
namob-4367322 June 2022
This episode basically tell the story of the entire show. Few things make any sense, we have plenty of stolen lines, stolen scenes and stolen stories from other (better) TV shows. But this is also a delightful crazy episode with the footlose moment as a highlight, and the characters, the acting and music make up for what otherwise would be a pretty bad show.

This is dumb but yet charming. This has a crazy story partly stolen from other shows, but it is still watchable.

I like Umbrella Academy, and I like the characters. I have fun watching this, but no sane person can call this good or great because it isn't.

A Good Start
TheRealPetraeus13 July 2022
I have very low expectations for this season after seeing the reviews, but I'm glad to say this episode was pretty fun. Good action, a shockingly good score, pretty good humor, and great acting. Hopefully this keeps up.

Something's missing...
cicelypearson24 June 2022
The show is great but something is missing. I can't quite put my finger on it but the story feels disjointed. Hoping it'll pick up as the season progresses.

Is this a joke?
ossumpawesome26 June 2022
This is an extremely mediocre opening to a new season. The writing and editing are horrible, everything feels dragged out with pointless filler that stops the plot dead, including a 4-minute long fever dream dance montage to Footloose, that takes up the majority of the opening sequence of the season with no relevance to the rest of the plot or world.

Great fun!
W011y4m54 July 2022
"The Umbrella Academy" S3 gets off to a relatively enjoyable start in this episode. Of course, it suffers from the same problem most big budget shows do with the beginning of their new seasons; having an increasingly large scale & new characters to introduce, it's mainly tasked with obligatory world building & establishment. However, I will literally never tire of seeing Neville Kidd's cinematography on screen; he's one of the most quirky & visually inventive directors of photography working in TV at the moment so it's no surprise to see that less budgetary restrictions have already resulted in even crazier set pieces - featured here.

Huh!
Hitchcoc25 September 2023
I was really disappointed to see what has gone on. There is no resolution of any kind. The gang gets back to the mansion the day after they left and there is a whole new family of beings known as the Sparrow Academy. Dad's there, even though we though he was gone. These guys are formidable because they each have been trained for powers. They are sort of Hitler youth. They are strictly combat ready. I did enjoy the dance scene, but it served no purpose in the plot other than to show us the cast are hoofers. So now the gang has to hole up in fleabag hotel and wait. The believe that the Sparrow gang is going to come after them.

Big let down after first two seasons despite good production.
brucecsnow25 June 2022
I've watched the entire third season. It's basically the same as the first two seasons except they have to save existence. The only big difference is they don't like their Sparrow Academy counterparts. And somehow they forgotten that Reginald is an alien.

I felt I was strung out the entire season with cliffhanger episodes that were "resolved" predictably.

The ending was somewhat predictable.

There's a fourth season. I won't be watching.

[6.5] Old fashioned way!
cjonesas7 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 1: A big drop in storyline quality in the first episode of the new season. Everything seems fake, aside the interesting and well-choreographed group dance with no relevance to the plot whatsoever though.

The fights are fake, underwhelming, the wounds are sub-par and unrealistic and the storyline plots are like poodles in rain forests.

Just some acting are good, make up your own mind, I made up mine and that is my favorite Robert Sheehan.

What happened to the Season 2 writers?
HyruleanTaterz23 June 2022
I binged the entirety of season 3 today and it was so bad. I'm glad the critics bad reviews prepared me for disappointment. What happened to the show's good writers? There were only a handful of funny jokes, and there were no cool choreographed scenes like in previous seasons. The story idea had potential, but the execution of it was just a mess. I had to press fast-forward for most of season 3 because there was so much unnecessary, cringey dialogue. After the uncomfortable Luther/Allison drama in season 1, both characters became very likable in season 2. But for some reason, they resurrected annoying, whiney, dramatic Allison again. The ending also left more questions than answers. It killed my desire to see a season 4.

Decent Start, but Dodgy Effects
dartanianmo24 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Having not seen the full show yet (im a weekly kinda guy), I can only speak from a first impressions standpoint, and as far as story and character goes, the episode does a good job of reminding us who the main cast is and set up more of what to expect (im guessing they're putting in a dash of The Boys in this one?).

The only 2 negatives I can give is the kinda out of place Footloose sequence which was fun but felt too jarring for the full episode, especially since it lasted way longer than it should've. Also, my god did Netflix slash the budget on this one. Like the green screen effects were horrendous, and just a season ago they opened with the academy going against commies, ended with a time traveler army, and had a guy with a fish tank head; all of which looked pretty good for a tv show of this calibre. Now it seems like they had the budget for some things, but not a cg environment. Oh, and I just thought of how weird it is that Luther and...shoot...rumor lady kinda forgot about their will-they-wont-they, unless that was resolved last season? Don't remember.

So, not the greatest of first impressions but doesn't kill the show for me or discourage me from watching on.

Season 3
hawkenvictoria14 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed season one & two really funny great characters. I was seriously expecting season three to continue on the same. It sadly hasn't the characters from the other realm were so awful and not likeable.

I am forcing myself to finish however it's not good.

The story is confusing and is really not going anywhere. I am all for killing people off but there's so much killing it becomes stupid.

The highlight for the was the Wedding episode and that was filled with musical interludes which always indicate they writers are struggling.

Underwhelming
whicksjohn22 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was the worst season opener episode. The charm the show once had in it's music has mysteriously vanished, the opening dance sequence, though amusing, really disrupted the pace and a weak attempt to recreate the I think we're alone now sequence (S1E1). Hopper's crab dance was amusing, and the opening fight after that lacked excitement and was anticlimactic. The introduction of the sparrows felt rushed. The CGI is not what it once was, with some sections giving early 2000 CGI vibes. Eliot Page looks like he's wearing a wig, and I hope his transition to Viktor is addressed soon, as it just feels uncomfortable for the sake of the actor. Overall a feeble attempt to capture the magic the show was once proud of.

What the heck is going on?

I was so excited for this season, and it's like nobody knows what's going on.. even the writers.

I only gave it a 5 because I still love Klaus and 5.

Allison is annoying as heck, Luther turned into a big dummy, Vanya/Viktor seems so forced.. (to be fair, I never liked them in the role right from season one). Diego is barely tolerable...

s3 review, they are the enemy
kyrross24 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Convoluted misscommunication. All these 'heroes' need to grow up, stop interrupting and freaking LISTEN to the other instead of storming out and screaming. You would think that after 2 season, they would have get that, but no. This time, Allison is the most annoying weaklink who contantly ruin everything. #5 is the most logical and everytime he is speaking we say "YES, listen to him"... but no, teenagers replied : "Shut up 5, you re not in charge, my ego is". Everything is overdramatized. They keep crying about emotions while the world is ending.

If they all put aside their ego and speak to one another, they would actually accomplish something. This show doesnt need a main villain because they are their worst ennemies. It is constant fighting between themselves and i am sick of it.
