Okay-ish low budget movie with heart, but...
jneiberger-128 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is pretty good as far as low budget indie flicks go, but it needed a rewrite. It starts out good but ends up telling the wrong story. Don was the best actor and the most compelling character in the show. This was Don's story, a love story about him and his ex-wife, and an adventure story about a man hunting the unthinkable on his own property. But this movie tries to put the focus on the podcaster, which is the wrong choice. They killed off Don way too soon and then turned the movie in "podcaster stuck in a lethal escape room" movie.

I'd love to see this same concept rewritten and made by filmmakers with more experience. There is a lot here to work with, and Ben Hall who plays Don did an absolutely fantastic job. He made this movie worth watching.

Really original, which has become so rare nowadays
danthepoetman21 March 2023
It's a small movie, for sure. But I really liked it. The nicest aspect is its originality. You haven't seen this story before, it's not a rehashing of two dozen movies you've seen before. It can be read as a metaphor of human pain and loss, but you are trapped by the narrative from start to finish. It's a nice small flick!

At the moment I'm writing this review, it is scored 5.4. It pretty much reflect what it does worth. I personally put a solid 6 on it. I found it entertaining and fun. Don't think you'll get great special effects, here, people flying all over the place, explosions, explicit gore, Godzilla-like creatures crushing cities, etc. Yet, it's well shot, the photography is nice with deep colors, it is well played through and through, and at the risk of revealing too much, you have a decent mix of heartfelt moments and action. A very decent film.

For reference, I score 6 for entertaining; 5 for entertaining with reservations; 7 for VERY entertaining movies.

Not bad for low budget
okpilak26 January 2023
Not a great film nor a stinker. Allen who had a podcast until a bad mistake got him off the air, follows people with strange ideas. A letter was written to him by a man whose late wife was a devoted fan, offering $25K to come out, as he knows there is a monster in the woods. The man, Don, is quite eccentric. And that really is the greater part of the movie. At one point, Don disappears, it seems there may be a monster, and Don has heavily boobytrapped everything, and those get triggered. And every time the red light goes on, traps are triggered, and some of them are quite clever. And they are deadly. There is some comic relief and also tension. And is there really a monster?

Wow this was almost good
truehaven-3321629 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So this movie had a great setup, great ideas, but they clearly didn't know what they wanted to do with it, so our "protagonist" is the only character we're left with in the third act.

There's a lot of unanswered questions and scenes that drag on to hit that 87 minute mark.

Don deserved to finish his story, and Allen needed a character arc of him learning a lesson. Instead he inadvertently caused the death of multiple people and just got his job back.

There are some interesting implications with the monster that are never explored because the movie turned into a random survival movie.

The director doesn't understand peril and what makes horror movies horror. You can skip this.

Well-done
tenncat30 January 2023
I try to find movies that surprise me and this is one. Although it received a low rating (I suppose because it's a low-budget), All Eyes is a charming, fun and scary film. The acting is first rate and the story intriguing. Watch it and forget about the CGI bloated films that populate movie screens. Both central characters add pathos to the story and take the viewer in an unexpected direction. It would be worth-while to see what the team could do with a decent budget and another good story. Don reminds me of some of the cantankerous charactersI know and its played superbly. I recommend the film with a tub of popcorn for a late-night veiwing.

I wanted to like it more, but its just not compelling
salmon6216 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Look, I like independent films, but there has to be something special there. This film is a story within a story which is supposed to be affirming or heartwarming according to some, but its just a small payoff after a lot of build up.

The dialogue is slow--its like pulling teeth sometimes waiting for information to develop. The central focus is a quirky character who exits early, leaving his interviewer to figure stuff out. But he never does, really, And I couldn't either. This is a small, good-natured film, but not memorable.

The acting is good, and the director has good intentions. Theres just not enough there to rate highly.

Pretty good popcorn-campy horror
LavaLampGlobules21 January 2023
The most disappointing thing about this film is that we didn't get more time with Don.

If you let yourself be entertained and don't think too hard about it, this film won't do much to interfere with your enjoyment. Lots of truly bad horror films insult your time and break the experience. This film sets out to be a "bad" horror film from the get go, and it does that very well. It has campy moments, a basic plot, low budget production and absurd "super serious" moments that will crack you up at how silly it all is.

It does feel about 10 minutes too long though. Part of that issue is that the main character portrayal (both acting and writing) struggles to carry the film to its conclusion. The Don character pretty much stole the show here (and the guy in the intro). So this film does end up with a typical horror movie final act, sadly. You'll be itching to finish it right about when it does decide to finish. You can even skip the epilogue and it wouldn't detract much from the experience.

Waste of time

Warning: Spoilers
After reading the premise I decided to give the trailer a shot. It looked like an easy watch so I figured why not. The first five minute were tacky but I decided to stick it out. Once the Don character is introduced things started to look a little more promising. Then out of nowhere, he's accidentally killed by one of his own booby traps. The movie goes straight down the toilet from that point on. For the remainder of the film, the lead (Allen) is ducking and dodging a bunch of low grade Home Alone type booby traps. At that point I couldn't wait for it to end. The lead character couldn't carry the film by himself. Killing off Don ruined the film. To top it off we never really get to see the monster. 4 stars.

This would make for a great double-feature with Deadstream
DeepRest17 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you're looking for a monsterfest, you're not going to find it here. The story mainly centers around two characters: Alan, a podcaster who is a broken man and looking for a story. Then there's Don, who offers him a check for 25k via mail, if he will come to his home and help him kill a beast he calls "Eyes". The movie is not even an hour and a half, and you spend a good part of it with only these two characters. The actor who plays Don makes me wish he had been in the movie longer. The man didn't seem to be acting most times. It was like he just became this character.

It almost becomes a different movie during the final 30 minutes. The podcaster has a nice redemption arc, when he realizes that the story of Don and Don's wife was more important to tell, over the hell he endured after Don died. He didn't want to make the story about himself, nor about "Eyes". He wanted it to be Don and his wife's story. I can safely say I haven't seen a movie like this in a long time.

Original-ish
fluffchop16 February 2023
Original whether that's a good or bad thing? I mean it's not like most movies, I guess it's a bit like some films. In the end it comes down to it being driven by is there a monster? It's basically built on that. It's a definite Snipe hunt of a film. The two main characters become more of the focus as we see the film proceed. It's got a little bit of conspiracy or government or scientific coverup/mystery thrown in for spice. I don't think any character is relatable and that's the worst thing about this film. You've got a couple of oddballs that you just don't relate to which ultimately makes viewing a distant process. I think objectively it's a 3/10 but you may enjoy it on some level.

Not what you think it is.
schmelerfleck5 February 2023
This is very different and much better than I had expected. The monster is sort of a McGuffin for the story of two damaged men.

The two principal characters are well-written and well-acted. The plot keeps the audience off-balance and unsure whether to laugh or recoil. I really couldn't predict where it was going, unlike most low-budget horror.

Criticisms: The writers didn't seem to know how to end the story, so it kind of limps along too long after the denouement. There is really only one secondary character, the podcast producer, and her acting is very weak. But the focus is on the two main characters, which are great.

Really Good
mlhare2 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I would have rated it higher if don didn't die and told us why he was really after the monster instead of his reasoning it killed his livestock. Basically 2 actors carried this movie and did it very well. I really developed a fondness for Don and wish he lived and found his last letter. There was no reason to kill him. I wish a little more would have been explained about the monster. How long was it there? What took the government so long to track it down and capture it? Why did the government let them go when "they knew too much"? Why do my reviews have to be six hundred characterz when it could be said with less?

Could have been better.....
spencejoshua-2273630 January 2023
This film starts with a gripping hook that does lead the viewer to believe that the upcoming story is going to be thoroughly enjoyable. The journey that our main protagonist embarks on is definitely intriguing. The setup is great and the quirkiness is solid. The setting does well establishing the remoteness that many monster flicks must create to invoke the feeling of desolation. Ben Hall did a good job portraying the crazy Don. Actually without this character the acting lineup would have been stale. The misfortune that follows our characters is intense though very short. The film is worth a watch for those who enjoy these type of films. I wanted to like it more but it lacked quite a bit of elements that one usually hopes for. The ending felt disappointing. There's several reasons why.....

More Millennial Crap
twelve-house-books24 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So we have this podcaster, whatever that's supposed to be (I was born in 1963, folks) who does several interviews with a wacko and the last one goes sour, so he's fired and has a lawsuit hanging over his head. He goes ahead with a final interview with another freak, but only because the guy sends him an unsigned check for $25,000 dollars. Anyway, he drives to the middle of nowhere and meets the dude who's about 60 or 65 and a new widower. There's supposedly a monster in the woods behind this old farmer's house, and after we know this, nothing rational happens for the rest of this really stupid movie filled with a millennial's idea of what a story is supposed to be. Nothing happens, and the ending is dumber than the beginning.

It tries
Amthermandes11 February 2023
A podcaster makes an oopsie on his fairly successful podcast show during a live event, and loses his sponsorship and job. To reclaim his fame and followers, he ventures out to bum-eff Oklahoma to meet an eccentric, ultra-paranoid hermit who claims to have a monster in his backyard.

It's very similar to "Digging Up the Marrow." Story is, documenters interview man who swears monsters are real. Interviewers get more than they bargained for when they realize the erratic person they are interviewing may be right. Things get interesting. This kind of story plot is a bit unfamiliar, and has only been growing since the last decade. While "All Eyes" isn't groundbreaking in any way, it's well worth a watch, especially by those who are at the very least not bothered by indie films. Still, one of these days we'll get the "Blair Witch Project" version of this type of story, which will blow audiences away and go viral. But so far, "Man interviews wackjob nut about the supernatural and audiences share his shock and fear when realization sets in that said wackjob might be right" hasn't quite yet found its shining star.

The editing was pretty good, but the most clever editing was used to amplify comedic effect. The humor in the movie was both a joy and a crutch. It seemed to focus too much of being "funny," and while it usually generated a chuckle or even a good laugh, it felt like it wanted to be more a comedy than anything else, which was a tad disappointing.

Definitely has the "indie film" vibe. But this is yet another modern horror/suspense film that proves indie films have come a long way, and anybody can make a decent movie with a few bucks, a camera or two, and a small film crew. The special effects even become laughable at a point. Some of the directing and cinematography is shaky, and questionable. It almost feels too much like "Home Alone," and not just in the way of booby traps. One scene reminds me of "Home Alone" when Joe Pesci's characters just stands there for a few good seconds while a blowtorch is scorching his head. It's kinda weird like that at times. And what was with the random zoom on the keys? Some effects are really tacky too. Like the orchestra during some "intense" moments, which made it feel too much like a B movie, like something from Troma films, or something from the early days of Peter Jackson.

Acting is amateur at best. And yes, so is the dialogue. But it's really not all that bad, one has to admire the simplicity of it all. It's not particularly scary, but it does have some good creepy moments. Story is really basic too. I liked Don from the very beginning. He's a blunt, honest backwoods type, and kinda hilarious and aggravating at the same time.

There's an interesting part of the plot dealing with lights and booby traps, and as a result, things really pick up about 2/3 of the way through. The film misses its mark with being an effective suspenseful movie, but it still has a lot of charm and unique traits to make it enjoyable.

If you like supporting independent films, and enjoy quirky slow-burners with some cheesy effects, but a decent and interesting plot, I'd recommend this film. And I wish the filmmakers and actors all the best in their future projects.

All eyes should not be on this film
Boristhemoggy25 January 2023
The storyline..."A disgraced podcast host interviews an eccentric farmer who claims to have a monster living in the woods near his house." doesn't really bode well for a film, but nevertheless I gave it a try.

However at the opening credits the Gravitas Ventures logo came up. Inside I shrivelled up and thought "Oh no!" I can count on one hand how many decent films I have seen which were distributed by Gravitas Ventures, they solely deal with independent films.

My heart sank but I was sure there'd be some redeeming factor, sadly there wasn't.

The storyline was silly. Really silly, and not even done well. The dialogue was awful and I found myself fast forwarding through large chunks. When I thought it was coming to an end I sat with my finger over the delete button but there were 3 false endings! I've no idea if that was planned torture by the production company or just appalling film directing.

But anyway I managed to get myself to the end and although I almost laughed 3 or 4 times at the stupidity of it, I can't even recommend it as a comedy. It's just awful.

Not that bad.
deloudelouvain26 April 2023
For a low budget movie All Eyes isn't that bad. At least not as bad as some reviewers stated here. The story wasn't boring and the acting from the small cast wasn't bad either. Maybe they should have shown the monster a bit more to make it more entertaining. That's what I would have done. Maybe the budget was too low for that, but the idea was there. I've seen hundreds of worse movies than this one in this genre so I wouldn't pay too much attention to the reviews rating it as the worst movie they ever watched. Just don't expect an award winning movie or something that will blow your mind away but just some easy entertainment, that's all it is.

I'm not sure what I was watching
johnkenerson7 April 2023
Honestly, I have no idea what this movie is actually about. Is it a monster movie? Is it a survival movie? Is it a redemption movie? I just really couldn't grasp what I was watching. I was waiting for a big reveal or twist or something, but it just kind of petered out.

It's kind of cool that it was shot in my home state of Oklahoma, kinda put the small town of Hobart in the map maybe. Oklahoma is starting to get more film work which I think is fantastic.

The lead guy kind of reminds me of a swap meet Cary Elwes with some of his expressions and such. Decent acting, good photography, but I guess the story just went over my head.

I wish the resolution would have been a little more obvious.

Enough unique elements and worthwhile characters to make it worth a watch
kevin_robbins17 May 2023
All Eyes (2022) is currently available on Tubi and comes highly recommended by Edward Delgado. The storyline follows a podcaster who decides to interview an eccentric old man who claims to have a monster on his farm. Is the old man crazy or is he telling the truth? The podcaster is about to find out the hard way.

This movie is directed by Todd Greenlee (Home with a View of the Monster) and stars Jasper Hammer (Lucky), Ben Hall (Minari), Danielle Evon Ploeger (The Pale Door), Nick Ballard (The Stunt Double) and Laurie Cummings (What Josiah Saw).

Hammer and Hall are really good in this. They reminded me a little bit of Bacon and Ward in Tremors. They had great chemistry and back forth through various conversations and circumstances. It does take a little while for this to get going as the first action/kill sequence isn't until there's about 35 minutes left in the movie...but that scene is awesome and catches you completely off guard. It's one of those movies that's super slow and then goes to a sprint out of nowhere. Everything that happens in the house at the end is tremendous and you find yourself thinking, "if it was me what would I do?" There's definitely some surprising, unforeseen circumstances that keep your attention and the movie well paced. The ending was smart and fairly clever in terms of how everything is positioned.

Overall, this isn't a masterpiece but it has enough unique elements and worthwhile characters to make it worth a watch. I would score this a solid 6/10 and recommend seeing it once.

Watchable, but somewhat boring...
paul_haakonsen8 April 2023
I have to say that I definintely was lured into watching the 2022 movie "All Eyes" given the synopsis and the premise of the movie. It sounded like writer Alex Greenlee was on to something great here. And with "All Eyes" being a movie that I hadn't already seen, much less heard about, as I stumbled upon it here in 2023, of course I opted to watch it.

However, the storyline in "All Eyes" proved anything less than entertaining and definitely wasn't what I was expecting or hoping. The was potential here, for sure, but director Todd Greenlee just didn't deliver a movie that proved all that interesting, much less entertaining for me. Yet, I still managed to sit through all 87 minutes of the ordeal, but I wasn't particularly impressed or entertained by what transpired on the screen.

The storyline just simply lacked momentum and drive. It felt like the movie was running in Neutral gear throughout the majority of the runtime, and that made for a less than adequate viewing experience.

It should be noted that the acting performances in the movie were good, especially the performance of Ben Hall (playing Don), because he stole the light and carried the movie with his performance.

For a horror comedy, then "All Eyes" was downright lacking in both departments. Sure, "All Eyes" was watchable, but it was by no means an outstanding movie experience. And it is not a movie that I will recommend for fans of the horror comedy genre to rush out and get to watch. Nor is it a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.

My rating of "All Eyes" lands on a generous four out of ten stars.

A surprising pleasure of a movie
romneymeredith19 September 2022
I've been posting reviews for over 5 and a half years here and most have been written with the purpose to warn people away from bad movies with ballot-box-stuffed ratings or just simply bad, usually with detailed reasons and spoilers.

But this movie is different - take your time with it, it relies on a pretty good plot, good acting for the few main characters and clever writing. One of the characters is a real piece of work and quirky - I loved that actor! The setup is slow but important and gives you time to soak in the background story before the pacing heats up so pay attention to the details in the setup as it pays off later. I just really enjoyed it, only 87 minutes long, and it was good entertainment. I refuse to spoil it by being more specific so I really recommend this.

P.s. When the credits roll it appears the film was a family affair, I counted at least 5 different Greenlees involved with it. They did a great job!

This ain't much, folks
justahunch-7054910 February 2023
I actually watched it by accident as I clicked on the wrong film. It sounded sort of interesting, so I left it on. A horror podcast host is held accountable for the death of a guest while telecasting and his career goes down the tubes. Even though he no longer has a platform, he goes on to interview another with a tall tale of a monster in Oklahoma. He meets up with a bizarre and hostile old man in the middle of nowhere on some dirt road who tells him he has to get blindfolded, sit in the back of the truck and go to an unknown destination. And he agrees with this stranger! He deserves whatever is coming his way from sheer stupidity. The lack of an ending without a point doesn't help the film in the slightest. One of its few virtues this very low budget film has is that it's humorous now and then. The lead actor, Jasper Hammer gives a mixed performance. He's really good sometimes and amateurish at other times. His co-star, Ben Hall does better. There is a really cool song over the end credits.

Really out there...
wlevyiii7 March 2023
I would give it 2.5 stars if we could give half stars. At the time I watched it is rated 5.6 by viewers. I definitely disagree with it being that high. It's watchable but barely. The acting is good, that is the high point. The rest of it, not so much. I have no clue what the writer and director were trying to say with this movie unless it is "people are crazy"... I will never understand why writers cannot develop a cohesive script! The are always trying to be esoteric and expect the viewer will get what's in their head. Usually not.

The lead is a huge wimp and he got on my nerves the entire movie not taking control of any circumstances or his life during the entire movie. Mostly he looked scared, whined, and avoided any type of confrontation that might have avoided the ultimate outcomes. The old man was played well but I have no clue what his issues are beyond his wife died. Seems like they could have developed his character much better.

None of it really made any sense to me. Perhaps it went over my head. I recommend passing on it, but if you watch it, definitely not the worst movie I've seen by a long shot.

Good film. Low budget.
Better than I expected. It has its weak points from a film fans perspective. But put away your snobbery and enjoy a great effort with a great sound design that fits every emotion conveyed. Whoever put the music and sound effects in this film is the true hero.

I had fun with this one. Writer and director need to do a little better, actors are not great perhaps because of an inexperienced director. But like I said, great effort. I'd watch more from these guys.

If you have seen the film "After midnight" It's kinds the same vein.

Has an interesting story that gives you thoughtful characters. And cleverly used its obvious limited budget.

All Eyes on this movie or you will miss out
randyunseen21 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I begin... This movie was so well done and very well written. The Greenlee's hit pay dirt. This movie has your attention right from the beginning of a Podcast gone wrong to a creepy farmhouse. When your down on your luck and life takes a turn for the worst, you need to take chances, if you have the balls to take chances that could change your life.

The farm and the creepy forest were absolutely brilliant! How long do you stay? Is this man out of his mind or is he dangerous? But you find this old man extremely entertaining. The farm and the house were very creepy. I felt sorry for this lonely man. This movie has one surprise after another. Hang on for a ride that takes many turns.
