Country royalty
Calicodreamin1 February 2022
A well made film depicting the friendship between two queens of country. The tone felt sincere and yet respectful. Both actresses played their roles well and they had good chemistry. A heartfelt tribute and well told story.

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this movie about Lorreta Lynn and Patsy Cline. I really loved the end where Patsy was singing with Loretta in spirit.

The actresses outshine the script
tadaia27 October 2020
Two very talented women with marvelous voices are cast as Patsy and Loretta in this Lifetime movie. I was blown away by Hilty however. Her portrayal of the bodacious and larger than life Patsy Cline was so convincing that I found myself smiling whenever she was on screen. The script was typical Lifetime stuff and undeserving of what they could've given to the roles.

Great Story and Sorry Portrayls
lennybuttz21 October 2019
After I read Coal Miner's Daughter I yearned to know more about this special friendship and now it's great to see it. I liked the story a lot but I didn't like the actresses in either role. Both ladies could sing but they sure couldn't sing one bit like Loretta or Patsy. It was really distracting hearing those unfamiliar voices singing familiar songs. I wish they would have just dubbed in the real voices it would have made the movie more enjoyable and believable.

Megan Hilty did an alright job as Patsy I think she got close but was kind of raw, she certainly could have used more preparation and a voice coach. Megan shined compared to Jessie Mueller who was just awful! She looked really old especially at the beginning of the movie, she had those big bags under her eyes lookin like something the cat dragged and I'm sorry to say this but the girl is homely and she's got that big honking nose! Loretta was and is a beautiful woman, she sure didn't have a face that could stop a clock. I can't imagine why they hired this girl, she wasn't anywhere near the accent, in fact she didn't even carry an accent through a lot of the movie, she couldn't sing worth a lick and she sure didn't act the part so I can't imagine how she got hired?

Another thing that really bothered me about the 2 leads is their hair. My god, did they do their own hair for the movie? Half the time they looked like they'd been speeding down the road with the top down, hair all scattered and ratty, Patsy's hair was teased up way too high and Loretta's hair looked like a cheap Halloween wig and it was always messy. Those women sure did not go out in public or up on stage with such nasty looking hair. How could they get something so easy so wrong?

Talk about the wrong actors for the parts, Charlie Dick and Doolittle were short little guys and Doo had a belly but they gave the parts to 2 tall guys? It's a lifetime movie what do you expect they do stuff on the cheap cranking out movie after movie not much caring about quality.

They went all out on other parts of the movie making it look correct, it's too bad they spend a little less on sets and more on hiring the right actresses for the parts.

Despite the bad singing and unflattering mimicking I still like the story. It's too bad they didn't make this movie after Coal Miner's Daughter with Sissy Spacck and Beverly D'Angelo this would have been some movie then.

Great movie on their friendship
justamommy21 October 2019
I grew up LOVING Patsy Cline & was obsessed with the movie Sweet Dreams ( movie based on her w/Jessica Lange playing Patsy) We got to see very little about her friendship with Loretta Lynn but some on the Cole miners daughter movie, so I was VERY excited to see this movie. I thought Mehan Hilty did an AMAZING job playing Patsy so much so I didnt even see Megan only Patsy. Muller did a great Job playing Loretta & seeing their friendship & then how Lynn's youngest was named after Patsy put tears in my eyes . I LOST it When at the end you see how Loretta helped Charlie out after his breakdown of losing his wife & how it effects her. I balled!! Idk how much is true but I do know that Julie Fudge ( Patsy's daughter) & Patsy Lynn ( Lorettas' daughter named after patsy) was involved with the movie I saw their names involved in producing. If you are a fan or grew up like I did loving Patsy, ( even though i was only 10 years old when the 1985 movie Sweetdreams came out) no matter how old you are you will truly love this touching movie of friendship between 2 lovely talented ladies that stuck together instead of trying to be in competition with in a cut throat industry having each others backs. It really was great story!

Close enough...
wrlj26 February 2022
It's a daunting and usually thankless task to take on the cinematic depiction of two iconic singers. One risk is the audience being disappointed with the quality of the vocals. The good news with this film is that the leads did so well, that any distinction between the performance and the real thing didn't distract from the enjoyment of the experience. It might not have been Patsy and Loretta right on, but the vocal renditions were so solid that is was close enough.

The voices and the acting deserve at least a 7, but some other quality issues made me rate it a 6. A 6 that we thoroughly enjoyed. It exceeded expectations by a "country" mile.

What a Great Movie about Friendships Between Women
debrahnava-5249621 October 2019
I thought this movie was very well made. Both actresses were wonderful in their parts. Such a beautiful albeit sad story. Loved how both their daughters collaborated on this endeavor, I'm sure their mothers are proud.

GOD NO
aarpcats6 February 2022
Omg, where do I start?

Patsy Cline was a gifted contralto who could sing at least two octaves without losing the fullness of the nótes. Her voice, even in songs like "Honky Tonk Merry Go Round" stayed silky, seductive and personal. She sang every song as if it is personal, which is why her voice is unmistakable whether it's paired with violins or cowbells. She knew how to make it her own.

Megan Hilty, a terrific Broadway singer, doesn't just sing a song. She belts it out so the people the back can hear her. She has a greater vocal range, but not the same ability or carve a note out from a song and leave it hanging in the air. That's why her rendition of "Crazy" sounds less like Patsy "making love to the audience" (as Owen Bradley said of Patsy's voice), and more like Ethel Merman telling us that "there's NO business like SHOW business,"

It's the wrong voice for the character. It wouldn't be a big deal but this is a movie about singers with the wrong kind of singing voices.

Jessie Mueller does a better job with Loretta Lynn's fragile, near shouting way of singing. She nails the pauses and breathing that Lynn puts into her songs. She's a little off with the look and the notes, but she does a pretty good job.

The accents in this movie are GODAWFUL. Couldn't Lifetime have spring for a dialect coach? It's as bad as watching a whole movie of David Boreanaz pretending to be the Irish Angelus.

Finally, the film itself is poorly paced. It feels as if we are waiting for a Yoplait or Progressive commercial every 15 minutes. There's a story to be told here, but this isn't the film to tell it,

Watch "Sweet Dreams" or "Coal Miner's Daughter." They are far better films with far better acting and music.

I haven't cried for Patsy in so long.
davidone4315 February 2020
I'm the former Executive assistant director of the Patsy Cline historic house in Winchester Virginia and my knowledge of Patsy is great. This movie was extremely accurate the makeup and cloths were too a tee, so much has been shared to me about Patsy by her husband Charlie some things he swore me to secrecy and I've abided to that. I am so thankful that this movie was made it brought back so many memories of Patsy, the time that I spent at her house, the countless hours that I spent alone on S. Kent st in Winchester the times so many times being alone while the faint whisper of Patsy singing in the background and hearing the many footsteps above my head which would be her bedroom, the countless whispers of giggles this is something that will always remain near and dear to my heart and how divinely favored I was to be able to share in thus "mansion of memories" called 608 S. Jent St. T hff bank you Patsy, always in my heart, I love you hoss, respectfully, David

Ok movie
wings-2436611 February 2022
No closed captioning made it difficult to enjoy. The actress who played Lorettta Lynn looked far to old for the part. Key parts seemed were missing. Where were the kids Loretta already had?

I never met Patsy Cline but Megan Hilty's sterling performance introduced her to me and she was a wonderful friend and entertainer
Ed-Shullivan22 April 2022
This is a heartwarming and endearing film brought to life by the realistic performances by all four (4) leading actresses and actors. The husbands who play the spouses of the two female country stars may have minor roles but their performances as hard drinking, skirt chasing and abusive husbands are reflective of the 1960's marital woes.

The two leading ladies Megan Hilty who plays Patsy Cline and Jessie Mueller who plays Loretta Lynn form a close knit friendship that was cut prematurely short. I for one never knew much about these two performers lives but I got to know and understand these two womens' trial and tribulations through their fine performances as mothers, wives and country songbirds. Kudos to the performances by actresses Megan Hilty and Jessie Mueller who made this film a special tribute to Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn's friendship and loving relationship.

It is an excellent biographical presentation that I hope will be remade some day into a ten (10) part mini-series with the same strong cast re-appearing. This made for TV Lifetime film is certainly way above par for a Lifetime film and deserving of special attention.

I rate the film a heart warming 9 out of 10 IMDb rating.

Amazing performance
suavecitompls27 October 2019
I just watched Patsy & Loretta again and just can't believe the amazing performances of both actresses. Meghan nailed the role of Patsy so much I was convinced I was actually watching Patsy herself instead of Meghan. So long as movies, books and plays are around, Patsy's spirit will live on for generations to come.

The best girlfriend movie I've seen!
hannah-1369620 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, this really tugged at my heartstrings. I knew they were close but this movie gave insight on how great 'besties' they really were. I laughed & cried at this wonderful 'chic flic' but I never knew Loretta had TWINS & named one girl Patsy. I still cry over the death of Patsy, one if the world's best Country Singer's & a larger than life personality. Love them both ❤

What were they saying
libertybell-223056 February 2022
It seems dialogue doesn't matter much. I could not understand way too much of what they were saying. Watched on Netflix and there was not a CC option. Didn't care for the story line. Love Coal Miner's Daughter, this doesn't hold a candle to it.

Megan Hilty is outstanding
adamsandel5 February 2022
Both actresses have great chemistry together and do a fine job as country legends Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, but Megan Hilty is truly outstanding as Cline. She fully embodies the character with great humor, warmth and vulnerability.

The film's focus on how the women's friendship developed is refreshing, as opposed to the typical biopic storyline of "then this happened, and then I got famous, and then this happened..."

It's also nice to have two wonderful singers playing famous singers, as opposed to actors lip syncing the legendary songs.

Love this movie
catherinederoet2 February 2020
I didn't expect to like this movie and I ended up loving it. Jessie and Megan absolutely nailed their parts. Listening to Jessie's Kentucky accent was mind-boggling - she sounds exactly like the folks from Eastern Kentucky (I live in Kentucky). Megan was absolutely incredible. She brought Patsy back to life - more so than Jessica Lange in Sweet Dreams or Beverly D'Angelo in Coal Miner's daughter. Love, love, love this movie and I am now a huge fan of Jessie and Megan.

Netflix version does not have subtitles or ability to turn on captioning, so I'm rating the movie as terrible bc we couldn't hear or understand anything they were saying.

Megan Hilty shines here
phd_travel28 October 2019
2 broadway stars in a musical biopic of 2 country stars. What's not to like. Unlike previous movies about the 2 Singers they don't have to be dubbed. Megan Hilty looks like Patsy Cline and she sings Crazy wonderfully. Jessie Mueller plays Loretta Lynn. But its hard to understand their accents sometimes cause they aren't from the South. The story isn't a full biopic of the ladies but concerns their friendship.

Worth a watch.

good story, but
pgooden21 October 2019
I enjoyed. the story of the friendship between she 2 women, but the acting was horrific . Megan was dull and unfit for the role as was the other one - Horrible actresses, Megan needs to stay on those awful Hallmark movies where idiotic women watch fairy tales of love never-ending .

When country was country!
ginasharp13 March 2022
This is a gem of a film about women who had the drive to become country legends at all costs except sell who they really are!

I love Megan Hilty in Smashed ( so sad that show was cancelled) but utterly adored her as Patsy!

A must watch if you love classic country.

Another great movie about two of the best country singers of their generation.
rayal19503 February 2022
I have watched every movie about these two. (Coal Miner's Daughter, Sweet Dreams) and loved them both. A little love for Sissy Spacek as Loretta here, it took me a few minutes to get used to the Loretta in this movie but she did shine here.

A little heavy on the 1950's version of men in marriage being alcoholic babies (can't make yourself a sandwich or feed your kids, really?) But it was more about the friendship and love between two women who were living their dream.
