Days before stepping into the title role of Disney’s Aladdin on June 13, Broadway favorite Telly Leung is staying mum on the secrets behind that beloved magic carpet. Mostly because he’s content to remain in the dark himself.
“There’s a part of me that doesn’t want to know,” the actor tells Et of the illusion that finds packed houses at the New Amsterdam Theatre gasping night after night. “I remember seeing the show, and as somebody who’s done plenty of Broadway and knows all the tricks, I had no idea how that worked onstage. It really was magic -- it took my breath away.”

Like countless kids of his generation, Leung grew up on the 1992 animated film, which joined Disney’s successful roster of Broadway musical adaptations in 2014. “Instead of having a princess as the hero, it was cool...

He came in second place on the inaugural season of Fox’s megahit American Idol. But looking back on it, Justin Guarini sure is glad he didn’t win.
The 38-year-old singer and actor — currently earning rave reviews for his turn in Broadway’s new musical In Transit — told People that while there are things he would have changed about his time on the show, beating out Kelly Clarkson for the top prize isn’t one of them.
“I think my life would have gone differently had I won,” Guarini said. “I was not ready, and I was just naive.

This past weekend, fellow ComicMix columnist Molly Jackson and I went to see Allegiance on Broadway starring Lea Salonga, Telly Leung and George Takei. Outside of both of us being Star Trek fans (Molly a much bigger Trekkie than I), history and political science is what I studied in college some years ago and the mistreatment of our own citizens during World War II was something I was interested in knowing more about. And something I hoped never to see discussed seriously in our political process during my lifetime.
Having spent his early years in an American internment camp himself, George Takei has been very vocal and passionate about this performance. He has a will and drive to get this story out there, particularly during this political season where echoes of our past sins are arguably louder than ever. The loudest of which is four time bankrupt real estate mogul...

For Telly Leung's sophomore album, Songs For You, the acclaimed Broadway performer decided to make an album where each song is dedicated to the important people in his life. According to the liner notes that is where each of the classic tunes that compose the track listing found their breath of life, allowing Leung to focus on the sentiment and energy of the song. Thus, audiences are presented with an album that almost sounds like a cabaret act, except it's clearly recorded in a studio.
