Watchable tbh

This is about as good as random Amazon prime video horror movies will get. I give it a 3. Lemme explain:

It's an ensemble slasher movie you haven't seen and you crave them because you're a little psycho. +1 star

It's got a cast of stupid ppl you won't care much or at all about so you can watch them ALL die in peace. +1 star

It's got a giant corn maze and some spooky scarecrows, an underutilized combo in horror--sadly. +1 star

It's got some humor that lands and alot that doesn't but it's not bad enough where you would stop watching and rant about it online. +0.5 stars

The acting is Oblivion npc level but that's one of the highest tiers you can get on an Amazon prime random horror movie. +0 stars - Acceptable.

The cast might remind you of a similar "gang" from Philadelphia and that might make it a little more watchable so you could continue to watch them die. +0 stars

They don't die fast and enough and it's slow. -0.5 stars

There's a sequel for no reason, because who asked? Nobody is gonna watch that one. +0 stars.

Super generic

Not gonna lie, this movie has literally nothing new to offer to the horror genre. Bad acting, sort of an interesting concept that was pretty much wasted, gore is okay. To be honest, it was just boring. I didn't like the characters or the writing. Call it B-movie Horror if you want, I just call it uninspired.

Don't torture yourself.

Ohh man this was bad... and i mean real bad. As in when you're 15-20mins in you'll say to yourself... why didn't I listen? Production was good, was well put together, never felt cheap, but by God this was woeful. Don't do it to yourself. You won't get the 80mins back.

FEAR PHARM REVIEW
nickallford-0532723 May 2022
The beauty of the slasher subgenre is that they don't always have to be good movies to be great movies. Performances can be hokey, FX can be cheap and silly, the plot can be ridiculous, and it all still adds up to a great viewing experience. Well-executed slashers and the ones that wildly miss the mark can be just as entertaining as the other.

With an "intense" Texas Chainsaw style poster, where does Fear Pharm land? The poster is and isn't a mislead. The movie IS about a strange family that is hunting and abducting teens for their own twisted reason. The movie isn't nearly as intense as the best Texas Chainsaw movies, and it does try to be a bit lighter and intentionally add some comic elements. Nowhere near the pitch-black comedy of Tobe Hooper's original or the OTT style of its sequel though. For me the humour didn't land. This is mostly since it makes the cardinal slasher sin of all the main group of teens being obnoxious. They also make several "meta" horror movies references in their early interactions ("Are we done with the expositional dialogue?") which makes sense in a Scream movie or Cabin In The Woods because it's part of the larger story. Here it is because one of the teens is an actor for some reason. A role that serves no further function in the plot. It's difficult to have fun with characters when they are so unlikable.

There's a similar problem when it comes to the villainous family. With the Sawyers from Texas Chainsaw or the Firefly clan from House of 1000 Corpses, the audience could delight in how wonderfully depraved these people are. Apart from their costumes there is nothing particularly interesting about the Fear Pharm family, and at times I found myself wishing I was having as much fun watching as the actors clearly were playing their roles.

Fear Pharm does get down to business quickly, opening with the traditional slasher tropes of gore and nudity and there's a fun but very brief sequence (the only highlight for me) involving a cheerleader being chased through a corn field by two clowns in an ice-cream truck with a harpoon gun! I wish the rest of the movie was as insane as the end of that sentence. And that's the problem. Fear Pharm is not an extremely well-executed slasher, nor is it bonkers and wild enough to still be a really good time. Sadly, my worst fear was realised with this one. That I'm watching a movie from my most beloved sub-genre that I can't recommend.

The only reason why I considered watching this movie is because it said in quote on the back "A Texas Chainshaw Massacre vibe with a bit of a Rob Zombie-ish feel..." For #1...don't ever disrespect Rob Zombie!!!!! And #2...a classic as TX CM?!?

PS @ jimmyb-03299... So I guess your Hot Pocket choice is pep/cheese? Or the egg/sausage breakfast one you enjoy in your mother's basement while snuggling with 18 cats...

And again not to mention the disrespect of Rob Zombie!!!! And on the cover!!!!

Wow, this is bad. Really bad.

The production values are not horrible as one reviewer said and it does not appear that this is a "friend" movie. It seems like it's the real deal but just really really bad.

The acting is horrible and the story-line is just plain stupid.

You will be bore out of your mind in the corn field.

I actually enjoyed it
jimmyb-0329928 September 2020
All the bad reviews are just people that have nothing better to do but sit around all day on their cloud of judgment eating hot pockets and thinking they are Siskile n Eibert. Stop being so close minded. I think the movie accomplished exactly what it intended. It was funny and a little quirky and a great halloween season movie with just the right amt of gore and decent back story. Get off your high horses dorks and go back to playing mindcraft!

Ok, it's not an A-list film.....
jkgoebel26 September 2020
It was fun and the premise was fantastic. I've seen a ton of horror films and I've never seen this idea. Was the budget low? Probably. But the fact they did something different is aspiring. Also, never did I once wince at the acting, it was way better than 99.9% of your low budget independent horror films. By far, in my opinion.

This is not a bad little movie. Usually these types of movies come out and are just plain awful. I mean, who the heck even watches those crappy b and c films. However, "Fear Pharm" stands a bit above the others as not only does it have a legit looking movie box, but its actually a decent film. The critic quote on the box says something like " Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe with a kind of Rob Zombie feel". It's like they were a little nervous to take out the words "vibe", Kind of", and "feel" when, to me, it actually was more reminiscent than i thought of both of those references. The chainsaw wielding maniac is pretty creepy with his barbed wire mask and his stand still stance. It gives you the creeps as one of our protagonists approach the villain in the corn maze after turning a corner and suddenly seeing him standing there, chainsaw idling in hand. Also, the ice cream truck part was pretty creepy and did have a "sort of rob zombieish feel". There was some comedic moments between the villains that I thought was clever and the acting wasn't all that bad. Except for maybe the kid "Rustin". There is also a nice and creepy ending to go with it. It all feels quite halloweenish and the production values are quite good. You can clearly tell this is a talented director and you can expect more from him.

Had potential...
destroyerwod20 October 2020
Good production value, decent acting, and enough gore ... But somehow i feel the movie is missing something. Its kinda like when it get interesting it just suddenly end... You never really have time to feel the anguish and despair of the protagonist like you do in a Texas Chainsaw movie for instance. I think the movie would had worked better with more victim characters, and at least having them in pair of 2 or 3.

Overall i didn't hated it, didn't loved it, watched it once, probably not gonna watch it again... its alright, but thats about it.

Just Ok
danielcereto11 February 2021
I am a fan of B-horror movies so that's why I've watched this one. First, the idea is not original but not bad either. Second, the execution could have been far better. Last, the script does not exists and the gore is just OK. So, all in all is just an acceptable Horror B movie if you love them. Other than that nothing remarkable.

Watch it and make your own judgment
Str8wikid110 April 2021
I will give you my opinion on it ...... its an un-original concept of a crazy Family that kills a group of kids in a sadistic mind and torture corn maze fight for their lives scenario...... BUT..... with all this style of movies i still enjoy watching these b movies over a Hollywood blunder busters they have made recently ...... watch this move and just have fun ....hell make it a background thing for your next smoke session .... but the twisted ending is great tho ..... so watch it.

Bad

Warning: Spoilers
Like a lot of films like this one, it looked good DVD Cover wise! The film itself...! Well... that's another story!

The film follows 4 teens who go off to a Haunted VIP Corn-Field to which they'll win £10,000 if one of them makes it though in under 2 hours! However, the Scare Actors aren't all what they seem & it is then hell starts to break loose & it's a fight for survival!

I found the film to be poor! At 1 hour & 17 minutes, this poor attempt at Texas Chainsaw Massacre & Rob Zombie Films alike, is bad & has a pretty dumb story-line that's paper thin & not even plausible!

The film was too wacky to take seriously & I felt that the premise wasn't natural & parody like! I felt the sexism against the men was just not on & I didn't care for the whiny snipes either "WhY dOn'T mEn EvEr LiStEn!?" or "WhY dO mEn AlWaYs MaKe Me RePeAt MySeLf!?" or even better "JuSt BeCaUsE a WoMaN iS sTrOnG, dOeSn'T mAkE hEr A lEsBiAn!", sheesh, we could've done without that crap! But it's a 2020 film so what do you expect...! *Rolls Eyes*

Aside from that annoying whiny character & the tame deaths, there was some good eye candy to be had here & some of the villains did look creepy & reminiscent of other slashers!

The ending was dumb though & the film itself was just overall not even great!

Overall, don't waste your time with this one! It's not worth it! 3/10.

Essentially just another madmen in the cornfield type of horror movie...
paul_haakonsen27 September 2020
Granted, I didn't really have much of any hopes or expectations for this 2020 horror movie titled "Fear PHarm". Why? Well, from the synopsis, it didn't really seem like this was an original movie. But still, it being a new movie, a horror movie nonetheless, and a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I found the time to sit down and watch it.

Turns out that I wasn't in for a particular great moment in horror cinema. Sure, "Fear PHarm" was watchable, but it was by no means an overly entertaining or enjoyable horror movie. In fact, everything in the movie was just something that other and older horror movies had already managed to do before, and more often than not actually do better than "Fear PHarm" did.

The script and storyline was straight forward, sure. But it was just too bland and mediocre, and there were no real surprising along the way. So it was a movie that was essentially just running on auto-pilot from writers Mark S. Allen, Howard Burd and Dante Yore. And director didn't really manage to lift up the movie out of the mediocre gutter that the movie was stuck in.

The acting in the movie was actually adequate, taking into consideration what little material the actors and actresses had to work with. The characters, however, were one-dimensional cardboard cutouts. They were all lacking proper personalities to distinguish them from one another. And the villains in the movie, or bad guys - call them what you will - were just so bland that they left no memorable impression. However, I will say that John Littlefield - playing Herschel - actually carried the movie quite well with his performance.

Visually, I must say that "Fear PHarm" was actually quite alright. The few special effects that were in the movie were actually done quite nicely and made me squirm at a point. So that was at least something.

If you enjoy a good horror movie, then I would say that your money, time and effort is better spent elsewhere, because "Fear PHarm" was just a less than mediocre horror movie. I mean, haven't the whole corn field plot been over-used in horror movies already? Did we really need another corn field movie with madmen milling about inside? No. Not really.

My rating of "Fear PHarm" lands on a generous four out of ten stars. It was watchable, but not a memorable movie, nor a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.

Fun Campy Slasher Film
batrostle10 October 2022
Okay this movie isn't going to scare you terribly but it fits the Campy Slasher genre perfectly. The ending was a twist I did not expect. There is a deeper metaphor behind the movie which tends to not bode well with horror, but i thought it was handled well. The "kids" were great characters that broke stereotypes. They weren't your run of the mills stupid teenagers. There was definitely some creativity with the killing methods.

The only downfall was the final scene with the mom at the market. The acting in that scene was bad! It absolutely could've been removed from the final cut. But overall a fun and campy slasher movie.

What a mess...
ericdhall7712 May 2021
Most anticlimactic, boom, it's over ending I've ever seen. There's also way too much downtime before anything happens. It takes over an hour for anything interesting to happen then boom, it's over. The story is extremely unbelievable as well. Poor script but the costumes were decent.

Campy Horror Fun
maddstowe18 September 2020
I feel like a lot of these bad reviews are just trolls. I rented Fear Pharm on Amazon and I really enjoyed it! Like it had funny moments especially with Rustin and Gemma who is my fav, but it also had gore and some pretty good jump scares. My boyfriend and I love watching movies on Shudder and this film stacks up to everything else we have seen, and the dialogue in this film is way better. Fun concept and the ending of why this is all happening I would say is really inventive.

This movie has it flaws but enough worthwhile horror elements that make it a must see for fans of the genre
kevin_robbins26 November 2022
Fear Pharm (2020) is a movie that I recently watched on Amazon Prime. The storyline follows a group of teenagers who are coaxed into attending a local Fear Farm in town. It is a unique haunted attraction to make it feel more realistic. It ends up being more real than the teenagers could have imagined.

This movie is directed by Dante Yore (616 Wilford Lane) and stars Tiana Tuttle (Still), John Littlefield (Hulk), Aimee Stolte (Megalodon) and Emily Sweet (Castle Freak).

This has a lot of scenes I thought were well done, enough to recommend seeing it once. The movie is definitely uneven. It felt like the villains were better cast than the victims. The dialogue is a bit inconsistent with some good comedy mixed in. There's time you can't tell if it's bad acting or poorly written dialogue. The horror elements are well done and contain solid gore. There's a skinning scene I thought was well executed and a sequence that had a good use of arrows. Some very entertaining stuff.

Overall, this movie has it flaws but enough worthwhile horror elements that make it a must see for fans of the genre. I would score this a 6/10 and strongly recommend it.

Watch Haunt Instead
saint_brett2 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Judging by the DVD cover of this movie - WHICH I BORROWED FROM THE LIBRARY & DIDN'T PAY TO SEE - a guy holding a chainsaw and wearing the skins of his victims as an apron 2020 style - how original.

I had a paragraph here to type out next but I'm retracting it for publication because I can't be bothered typing it all out due to it being lengthy and not counting the strenuous extensive finger work and time it'd take.

Wow, we get to see Otto from 'Repo Man' at the start here typing text messages word-by-word on his phone as an introduction scene. Like that's what I want to watch in a movie! Gwen Stefani then jump scares from under the bed as Joey from 'The Wanderers' and either Selena Gomez, or Natalie Reyes, join the cast. They contemplate going to some maze theme park as there's nothing else to do in this movie.

Didn't I watch this movie only last week - Haunt (2019?) Okay, let's see a show of hands. Hands up who automatically hated the cast the moment they were introduced just then! The defense rests. (The 4 leads are about as likable as a box of unloved pet squid.)

King Kong Bundy, and a handful of Slipknot members, run some sort of Korn maize, I mean corn maze, out in Idaho and that clown from Motionless In White's A-M-E-R-I-C-A song appears as an Easter egg. Or, is it a ringmaster from an I. C. P. Song?

Everyone is registered and micro-chipped like animals before entering the vast acreage theme park, or is it some sort of tracking device like in 'The Running Man?' Who cares?

Hard hitting edgy PlayStation 2 music jingles as either Michael Madsen, or Alec Baldwin, maniacally drive the contestants to the center of the maze. (This scene's supposed to get your heart racing, and conjure adrenaline, but my lividity levels are reaching brain dead zone in a banal manner. In short, I'm sitting here like a Hubbard Squash vegetable. Or, some other spring variety. The point is I'm a vegetable) This is a stupid concept for a movie. The annoying cast continue to irritate - I can't take to them. No one can and no one will.

The sun baking slob from 'Zombie Flesh Eaters' shows up in a cameo. Movies only goes for 70 minutes and I wish it would hurry up and end already as it completely fails to ensnare the viewers care interest.

MY GOD. Anyone who hasn't seen this yet, but when you do, go straight to the 37:30 minute mark and listen to the noise Otto from 'Repo Man' makes. It's the kind of regurgitated sound this whole movie's aim is. I'm rewinding this scene as I've never heard that sound effect in a movie before.

This movie's incredible - two people have been slashed across the thigh, um that's a main artery, technically they should be dead, but this movie's so oblivious to its own incompetence they just carry on like it means nothing. This is incredulous that I'm enduring this stupidity! I'm letting this movie offend me yet I still sit here and take it?

Gee, director fella, were you inspired by Harley Quinn to base one of your characters off her? The killers, and Harley Quinn, have the drop on the four maze runners from the get-go so they've smothered their chances from the outset. They never stood a chance. It's almost claustrophobic the unfair advantage.

Apparently, the moral of the story is, if I'm reading it right, Selena Gomez, or Natalie Reyes, had a rare expensive hand cream in her pocket, which she purchased off Rodeo Drive somewhere, and the band of killers, and Harley Quinn, want to mass-produce cheap knockoff cosmetics and must steal the secret formula off her to make a fortune? What, that's it?

The movie's about hand cream, people, hand cream. Yes, you read correct - hand cream.

Why was this movie even made? Why was it approved for public consumption? Who green lighted it? Why? What purpose does it serve? It won't leave its mark on history. No one will talk about this movie next week let alone next month.

Do yourself a favor... watch 'Haunt' instead.

Well, maybe some interesting takes on the villians
jmbovan-47-16017318 May 2021
Not much here. Corn maze, psychotic family, teenagers are stalked. The plot, which is largely nonexistent, has a mild twist that makes it novel, but it is so random that it doesn't really make it interesting. A little bit of overacting here and there. Mildly average and subpar.
