ENDING?
sdt49447 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Just finished episode 10 and thought, OMG! Is Leo never caught? Really.....researched and apparently there will be a second season, but we won't see it until 2022. Good grief, will have completely forgotten the story by then!! That being said, I did enjoy this. Thought the characters were very well played by the cast. What the heck makes us so curious about modern and mayhem 😩

Why all the haters?
kymber796221 May 2020
I don't know why there are so many negative reviews about this series. It might not be "True Detectives" but its definitely holding its own. Each episode WILL leave you wanting more, which is a pretty good indicator of good TV in my book. Every time you're SURE you have it figured out, here comes another curve ball. The unknown/unfamiliar cast does a great job. Who doesn't have love for "Black Jack Rackam of Black Sails", "Sam Merlot of True Blood" and "Daniel Holden of Rectify"? Don't let other peoples negative opinions sway you from at least trying this series and forming your OWN opinion.

Bingeworthy, but too many unsolved issues at the end
reikihealer-dk15 June 2020
I really binged this mini series. I found the characters interesting as well as the plot. However, I must say that it left too many loose ends to be solved, as many of the former reviews are saying. I do like a thriller, in which I wonder by the end, what will happen next. But in this case, I was left with too many questions. This is why, I give it 7 instead of 8.

Not bad, not great, but it has enough suspense to pass the time!

50/50 great and terrible
stairways31 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Some great moments and surprisingly good acting from the two leads (a serial killer/teacher and the obsessed cop hunting him) can't make up for the layers of ridiculous coincidence in which the plot is built. Everyone in the family of both men is, in some way, intimately connected to everyone in the other, as if there were no other people or families living along the banks of the Russian River where this story takes place. And it's a huge problem that it takes the cop 9 episodes to see the identity of his prey when it should have been unmissable half a dozen episodes before. Things like this are so often overlooked or forgiven by current tv producers that they barely rate a mention in reviews. But if coincidence is the bedrock of a plot, then all you end up with is a hole in the ground where a satisfying conclusion should have been.

Good thriller series but a complete disaster ending!
ashlove-8480317 October 2020
Why go through the trouble of shooting 10 episodes, full of drama, and go to great lengths to build back stories that we invest in, making us want more and more. After we have committed our precious time you go and then bomb us with the most confusing and anti climatic ending!?!?!?!?

Watchable enough.
Sleepin_Dragon7 August 2020
It's alright, it's not one of those dramas that will have you desperate to see the next episode or reach the conclusion, partly because there isn't much of a mystery, the only true mystery is how on Earth can some of the killer's nearest and dearest be so stupid.

It's interesting enough, I like that we see the killer functioning fairly normally with everyday life, and masking their true nature, but incredulity becomes an issue. We are left with lots of loose ends.

The acting is decent, although it is a bit patchy in parts, nice production values.

It is overlong, they could have made it a little more exciting, and had it in six parts, instead they allowed the middle section to drag, the penultimate and opening episode were the best installments, the finale was very disappointing, it doesn't actually progress at all.

A second series isn't needed, it's a decent watch, 6/10.

Really good
stacy-rapoport18 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm really surprised at all the negative reviews. I thought this was a really good show. The characters were nuanced and flawed but felt very human to me. There were no major characters that were really stereotypical or over the top. It was really relatable that way. This reminds me more of the slow burn of a British crime show where we know who the bad guys are and it's about the journey, not about the big surprise reveal. There was still mystery and I certainly didn't guess everything that was going to happen because, again, the characters weren't predictable like a lot of shows.

I'll be really stoked if they take this from a mini series to a show with more seasons!

Good Background Noise
johnpwabbajack5 May 2020
It's not a bad show by any stretch, the acting is great all around, but the script has a few too many dumb moments that hold the show back a bit.

There is one bit in particular where a lady asks a priest why God wants people to confess in addition to repenting, and the priest's response is "because that is what he asks."

Seriously? That's the best they could do?

There are a couple of other minor moments here and there, but that's the one that really stood out.

Also,, we didn't really need this show. Serial killers in general are a bit passe, and there really isn't anything original here. It's a show to watch if you like a crime-thriller-drama-things that doesn't require much thought, and it helps the acting is pretty decent.

On the other hand at least it isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, and thank Christ there isn't a quirky medical examiner.

I hated the ending!
lovethesun7 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I plodded my way through 10 episodes in hopes of seeing the serial killer brought down. Did it happen? Nope. I didn't devote 10 hours of my time to come away frustrated. By the time the second season comes around, I will have completely forgotten about the story.

Definitely for the psychological thinkers!
I'm thrilled to have binged this Netflix series, while it may have wrapped itself up completely by the last episode, it pleasantly satisfies my "inner psychologist", analyzing each characters movements, mannerisms, and how "normal" people may seem but deep down have it in them to be a killer and why. It may not appeal to everyone's taste, it certainly appealed to mine.

Soft core psychological thriller
enyaddict16 June 2020
This is a quick season to finish, with beautiful scenery and an interesting story line. A great watch if you are looking for a break from Criminal Minds calibre and want something less sinister and pulse racing and want something with abit more heart.

I hope we get a season 2 of this, the leads are incredible and I would love to see more of them as the tortured serialkiller and detective

Wasted 10 hours!
jeffreylward11 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Bad dialogue, and way too many unbelievable coincidences. There were no like-able characters, and no resolution of the, way too many, subplots. Why does the creepy guy want to be a serial killer, and why can't he do it? Why did the teenage boy bring a gun to school? What happens with the cop's daughter and her freaky boyfriend who likes to share her nudie pics? And the poor little boy that is on the spectrum...why was that even a thing if it didn't move the plot forward? I only kept watching because I wanted answers...and it offered none. Sam Trammel was the only bright spot. He gets all 4 of my stars.

Tense, but Disjointed
mandagrammy1 December 2020
It's not that easy to review this series. There are times when the tension is quite good, and it makes you want to keep with it. However, there are so many disjointed scenes that it can become irritating to continue watching. Sadly, too, there are very few characters to root for. Even the head cop seems to be a messed up human being that is unlikable at times. The kids will drive you crazy, even more so than the average kid does. I did stick with the series, but was not rewarded with a satisfying ending. Talk about leaving something undone... this ending is the epitome of that. Perhaps they were wanting to leave the door open for a second season of the series, but I have no desire to spend more time with these characters. All in all, not the worst thriller I've seen, but far from the best either.

Who will come out on top?
rtselby-4640912 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Explores the duality and irony of the human mind. Two fathers, with seemingly opposite paths share a common characteristic: Obsession. Starring Sam Trammel of True Blood fame and Star of 2011's 'Killer Elite' Aden Young.

Why can't Mike brush his teeth properly?
paulajones-999244 May 2020
Does anyone know what the deal is with Mike brushing his teeth and grunting? It's hilarious but really confusing. Surely his wife should be telling him he's doing it wrong?

Very methodical
cutetimster6 May 2020
Sooo .. During Coronavirus lockdown you can end up watching some really bad content . However I really loved Reckoning .For a while I couldn't work out who did it .The unraveling of the story is literally that , normally you watch a cop show and it's all solved before you get to put the kettle on for your first T break . Anyway no spoilers here , just watch this mini series you won't be disappointed ...Tim

Felt incomplete
bangel332217 May 2020
Hmm...good performances all round, although this played out like a domestic drama more than the thriller and mystery I was expecting. It seemed to sail along at a slow and steady pace, not really taking off at any point. Watched it all, waiting for some kind of twist or exciting moment but it never came. By the end of it, I'm just left wondering, what was the point?

So, was this some sort of artsy ending. I've never left a series so dissatisfied. The ending left me feeling like I wasted 9 hours watching some series, when I counld have been watching baseball.

looking for a killer...
ksf-24 March 2021
Another one-season mini series from netflix. the lead actors are from all over: Canada, US, and New Zealie. and apparently at least parts were filmed in Australia, but no-one has an aussie accent. Detectives Serrato and Ramos are backtracking on the latest murder victim. Gretchen was a student at the local school, and this could be the work of a known serial killer. some complications. dysfunctional families (aren't they all?) autistic son. rebellious daughters. mixed reviews . it does move pretty slowly. and there's some question whether or not there will be a second season... some hints online that there will be more eps in 2022 if enough money is recouped from season one. produced by Playmaker Media, an aussie production company, which has made a TON of other things as well. this season directed by Shawn Seet, Jennifer Leacey, and Peter Andrikidis.

Where is the plot in this show?
vanrooygert17 August 2020
This series features a storyline that meanders into thin air. There's no progression in the plot and no development in otherwise totally inconsistent main characters. I have a hard time understanding what this show is about, or where it wants to go. I don't think the makers didn't know either.

Good but a bit slowly
pguadalix11 June 2020
It's a good idea with not such good acting.

I think they can leave it in half the time and it will be more credible

Australia not California.
ashlapiwape25 July 2020
Ok series My issue was pretending it was California. Cali tags on vehicles etc. but none of scenery even the ocean/beaches are Cali. And the beautiful bats emerging at night are very large flying foxes which we do not have in California much less the US!

Why not just let it be in Australia???

Watchable but weak
Cornettoannetto21 June 2020
If you are running out of thrillers give this a shot but it is lacking. I echo some of the other reviews - flawed police investigation with door step interviews, lack of police procedures throughout. Main cop is totally weak and unlikeable and all these visions and flashbacks are rather tedious. I started watching harlan coben's the woods and gave up but managed to persevere with this one. It is watchable and good but not great.
