Man Like Mobeen (2017)
A refreshing bromance dark comedy.
In need of a feel good laugh out loud relatable comedy? Then this is it. It's been awhile since I've seen such a wholesome and supportive group of friends, especially men being portrayed on TV. This is something the show does very well ; portraying bromance and supportive role models in a realistic, somewhat idealistic and naive way. And how they navigate this insane world we live in. And I'm here for it. I love the four of them and I really think they've found something special here that could turn this into a fully fledged long time running sitcom. There is so much ;they need to make it clear who is related to who because it greatly confuses me 🤣, how did they all become friends, what do they actually do for jobs etc
However, Season 3 has decided to go a certain way which I don't mind, but it has started to lose the comedy side and the brotherhood that was the core of the plot. Eight is starting to be bullied and put to the side instead of being loved and protected.
There's some random acts of violence that seems incredibly out of place. There are still some truly heartwarming moments, but I'm worried that the time jump is going to change the dynamic between Mobeen, his friends and his sister which I honestly adored.
I hope they don't lose the heart.
Servant (2019)
Give it a chance, for Grint
Suspend your belief in reality to enjoy this. Watched season 1 quickly and have thoroughly enjoyed the cinematography which is incredible.
However I'm unsure I'm the right audience as this has heavy religious tones and all the close ups and motifs are lost on me which makes some of the storyline and scenes unnecessary and leaves me feeling lost and frustrated at the time spent on long shots and emphasis on infestation of crickets, wine of Uncle George's garble and his dirty feet and nails and of course all that is happening to Sean (!)
It is a dark comedy thriller with supernatural undertones which is what makes this gripping. Rupert Grint's character is nothing new but he is greatly needed and provides needed humour and physical comedy.
Can anyone explain the constant emphasis on food? It's beautifully done but I hope there's an actual reason for the time spent on this
Reckoning (2019)
Soft core psychological thriller
This is a quick season to finish, with beautiful scenery and an interesting story line. A great watch if you are looking for a break from Criminal Minds calibre and want something less sinister and pulse racing and want something with abit more heart.
I hope we get a season 2 of this, the leads are incredible and I would love to see more of them as the tortured serialkiller and detective
The Lovebirds (2020)
Laugh out loud
Nowadays you cannot watch any movie with expectations or you will be disappointed.
So not knowing anything about the movie I was thoroughly surprised at how much I enjoyed this.
If a movie can make me laugh audibly out loud then it's already scored points. The heated argument between the two leads is hilarious and these trivial fights continue throughout the movie despite the chaos around them, making it one of the most relatable relationship story lines that I've seen in a romcom in awhile.
The plot itself is an average version of Date Night and was definitely being carried through on the shoulders of the leads so don't expect anything new.
-One thing I will mention is the movie relies on witty dialogue and great costumes rather than theatrics which I highly enjoyed.
- no loud gun shots, ear splitting screaming, high chase car drives or even unnecessary profanity.
Space Force (2020)
Steve Carell is exactly what you need
I binged it all in a few hours and will probably watch it again tomorrow.
Don't over think this one. Rather think of it as a Get Smart,VEEP-Space Chimps meets The Office-Parks&Rec who then have a very 'woke' baby. ( if you don't know those mentioned then you may not appreciate this sort of humour). It is understated and tongue in cheek and the humour comes less from the script and more from the interaction between characters, especially the contrast between Carell and John M- a duo we didn't know we all needed. It has odd yet interesting cinematography which adds to the quirkiness, it is heartfelt and has a great soundtrack.
It is about the stress of life as a militant and as a father and human. It is about doing what is right and learning to change and adapt - something we have all been forced to do in this pandemic. But ignoring all that it most importantly has Steve Carell, a hilarious genuine ball of light in these dark times.
