Nicely predictable.
ThomDerd4 July 2021
Although AQPII is not bad, it does look like an attempt to cash in. There's a few problems with it and most of them are in the storyline. Here is an overall difference with the first film:

In the first one, there was a clear storyline, almost no plot holes, novelty and the right amount of tension.

In part 2 however , you kind of know exactly what is about to happen and that lessens the film experience.

For example, the tropes used in this film, are all the classics. Yes, they were used in the 1st film too, but at least then they were timed and deployed better, so the tension was nicely built and a sense of unpredictability was evident.

Now in part 2, I have a feeling that the story was a bit of a stretch. Also, the motives of the protagonists were at times unjustified, just to push the story forward.

So the story ends up with flaws, which disappoint mostly because of the predictability and the too many cliches. I would want to mention a few which I m sure many noticed but better not to spoil it. You will know once you see.

Also, it's not as quiet as the first film. Sound editing is great also in this one, but maybe there were more speech moments than needed.

Overall, the good parts: tension is there, cinematography is beautiful once again and we get to see some good acting.

I do hope that there's a part 3 and I hope they improve the story.

6,9/10.

A Worthy Sequel.....
gbkimberley26 May 2021
.......and if you enjoyed the first one then you'll certainly enjoy this one too.

Most sequels that flop tend to do so because the powers that be think the audience simply want exponentially more of the same thing that was in the original. More bad guys, more explosions, much, much more of everything. Except story and depth and character development.

A Quiet Place II, thankfully, doesn't fall into that trap. It starts almost exactly where it left off. Right at the point in fact, where we were left wanting to see more in the first film. Then it simply and effectively expands on the original.

Overall I rate it as good as the first instalment, if not marginally better in places. If it has any fault at all, it's in the runtime which, IMHO, is a tad short. We definitely wanted to see more though and who knows, maybe there'll be a third one? Let's hope so.

Value Added Sequel!
spookyrat118 April 2022
Cannot believe the number of people who are claiming this movie is the same as the first. Just ridiculous! I have to wonder whether they saw the same A Quiet Place Part 2 that I saw. It obviously follows similar themes but builds on the story and further develops the characters. You have to give it up to writer/producer/director and actor John Krasinski. He has delivered a sequel which really enhances the story he introduced in Part 1 but this time, is played out on a much broader canvas.

He also cleverly begins with an absolutely gripping prologue, that gives us a little more information about the alien arrival, which is something many of the whiners, moaned for, after seeing Part 1. It also has the dual function of reintroducing his character into the story, which I personally found very satisfying.

It's very clear many of the complainants just haven't really watched the movie closely. I do admit though, you probably do need half a brain, a short term memory capability of more than 10 seconds and also be not constantly looking at your phone, to fully appreciate the subtleties of Krasinski's work.

The sand is there to reduce sound on the Abbot's property when walking between there and town barefoot* (*also to reduce noise). Seriously hard to believe people haven't worked that out yet. Lee, the dad was a clever guy and in the time span from Day 1 up to the events in the first film, you can see from his depicted work area, that he has sussed out a lot of things about the aliens and taken steps around his property to help protect his family. Similarly we should assume from visual hints provided, that wife Evelyn, played by the wonderful Emily Blunt, is likely to have some sort of professional medical background. She knows a lot about specific medicines and equipment to salvage from the town pharmacy and was obviously prepared and wanted to have another child, after the early events we saw in the previous film. This is why she heads back on a dangerous solo effort to the chemist to pick up further treatments for Marcus's injured foot. Those people saying the characters behave unrealistically are I'm afraid, just clueless.

Similarly it's fundamental to recognise that Regan is not an "annoying, naughty teenager". She's extremely clever, determined and yes, quite wilful. But this is consistent with her behaviour across both films. It's not just a convenient contrivance to move the plot along that she heads out by herself. She is convinced, she has the means and know - how to save humanity, as she tries to explain to her mother via the medium of ASl. The real life hearing impaired Millicent Simmonds is perfect in the role.

I loved the way Krasinski expands the story outwards. We see vastly more after effects of the invasion and also again to satisfy the grumblers, get to see the creatures in greater detail. Cillian Murphy hits the right acting notes too, in his portrayal of Emmett, a former apparently close friend of Lee's, who is now a hardened, reclusive survivor, but proves vital in helping the various Abbott family members.

The only concession I'll give to the naysayers is that, yes, for extended periods, the baby is unusually quiet. Marcus has also clearly grown in height over the 2 year gap between the movies being made, but there's not much the producers could do about that. We just have to grin and accept it.

This is a marvel of a sequel that smartly avoids any attempt to recapture the original, instead expanding its world in every way possible. Brisk, crisp, efficient, and full of masterful sequences of suspense, A Quiet Place 2 is an ideal follow - up to the outstanding opening chapter of what is clearly designed to be a trilogy.

Disappointing follow-up
tles718 April 2022
I liked how the story begins with how the whole invasion began. They should have spent more time on this. As a matter of fact, this should have been a worldwide view of how humanity failed against the invasion. Instead, you get a story that at times makes you wonder if you missed something (on the pier especially). Also, the son appears to have gotten stupid since the first movie. The ending is rather contrived. With all the periods of silence in the movie and the style of showing two or three parts of the story all intermingled at once, you get very aware of the director "doing something". It weakens the film. The ending is so contrived that you think....."say whattttt". The characters' decisions in this movie make for many plot holes where their actions in the original are not something you question. So is the sequel how they get the daughter's discovery out there, If you can believe no one else figured this out. For that matter, I wondered how this type of creature can create and fly a spaceship. Do they multiply here? Were they kicked off a planet like Alien Nation? These creatures don't seem to have intelligence, organization or government. It's like the dinosaurs figured out how to build a spaceship and fly through space. The movie grossed about $350 million so there will be an unnecessary sequel. Watch a movie called "Earth vs. The Flying Saucers" from the mid-1950s and you will see the same "discovery" on how to kill the monsters.

A good sequel, which is a rarity!

A good sequel, which is a rarity!

This one seemed slow at times, but the opening scene of Day 1 of the invasion, and the crazy intensity of everything at about the one-hour mark made for quite the stressful viewing, much like the original! Good ending too! I'm not clamoring for a third, but I'd watch it if they made it!

You see more of the creatures this time
AlsExGal17 February 2023
This one picks up where the first one ended. There is a small backstory about the first day the creatures landed on earth. Director John Krasinski builds suspense through pacing, a slow buildup to when someone, as careful as they are, inevitably makes a loud noise that unleashes the slaughter. Krasinski likes to use wide angle shots of people running for their lives as the monsters fly into the frame. Silence is followed by a cacophony of screams.

We see more of the creatures this time, a sort of reptilian extraterrestrial concoction. Newcomer Cillian Murphy plays a survivalist who has lost everything. But the strength of the first A Quiet Place, as with the sequel, are the emotional, powerful performances from Emily Blunt, and her onscreen children, played by Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. Simmonds especially, blends courage and compassion, garnering our support, so that she becomes the hero.

The ending leaves the door open to a third installment.

More of the same, but still a well constructed action-horror film
matris128 May 2022
The good: The film in of itself, is well made - everything from cinematography to lighting, sound, action, pacing etc. Big props for that. And of course the acting from the leads (including the younger actors) is excellent. I also like the way the 'passing of the torch' is shot - clearly defined parallels are drawn that make it easy to see the directors vision.

The bad: Probably it's biggest criticism is just how close it is to the 1st part. Whilst containing less of what made the first one special. This film is definitely more action - so it's not a complete replica, but the story beats and plotting are basically the same - hide from aliens, get supplies, escape from or stop aliens, : rinse and repeat.

Should you watch it: If you like the first one, absolutely. It's a well constructed film that moves at a quick pace (almost over too quickly). A solid horror action flick. Recommended.

A Worthy Sequel
tim-stjames13 June 2022
If nothing else, I'm primarily impressed with how these films seem like a cinematic franchise built out of the raptors in the kitchen sequence from Jurassic Park. This is the very rare sequel that at the very least is equal to what came before and it reminded me how much I missed going to the movies.

Movie is a good watch but there is no such progress from the storyline point of view and no additional watching experience. It's just like the first one.

Sequels to horrors never work but this did
nathanmanson5 March 2022
The first one was definitely better but this was so good. Cillian Murphy was a perfect edition to the cast. I didn't think it'd work without John Krasinski but I was definitely wrong. I very glad there's been a third one announced because I'd have hated the ending to this other wise. I think as far as horror films go these are the best of the best. There's none like it, and any that are like it just aren't nearly as good.

Why all the bad reviews?
clairetje_vh2 July 2021
I do not understand all the bad reviews.. I see a lot of reviews saying this one was the same as the first one, I don't see it that way. It was an extension of the first one. I also see people saying that the first one was bad and that this one is even worse. Why did you want to see this one if you didn't even like the first one? Than you probably didn't even give it a chance. I thought the movie was very thrilling. The first movie was different, this one had far more action in it. But I liked both of them equally. I saw it in theaters and was on the edge of my seat the whole movie. The acting was good, there were some nice details and it was very exciting. And yes, some characters did some stupid things, but those were things that fit the characters. If you have any empathy, you can imagine how the characters would feel and why they acted the way they did. I also really liked it that they gave an insight on how it had all begun.

Almost as good as the first
MickyG33311 April 2022
Replace Krasinski with Cillian Murphy. This movie is basically more of the same thing, maybe a bit less surprising, or fresh; but you could watch these back to back and it would feel like an extension of the same movie. I found myself rooting for Murphy's character after I got acquainted with him.

I'd say this has many, many good parts, and a few great ones! If you saw the first one, I feel you really need to see the second. It's just a smidge less fulfilling, only because the bulk of suspense is obtained from the first go around; however the conclusion is quite rewarding.

I'd re-watch them both in 5-10 years, which earns this at least 7/10.

There's a lot to like but Krasinski's character leaves a big hole
jtindahouse26 May 2021
I always say the opening scene/sequence of a film is crucial, and even more so in a horror movie. When the title card 'Day 1' pops up at the beginning of 'A Quiet Place Part 2' you know you are in for a treat. And it is a truly great sequence. I'm not normally a huge proponent of jump-scares, however the first one in this movie absolutely got me, and I'm rarely gotten. This sequence sets the tone for the film masterfully and then everything else flows from there.

There is a lot I like about this film, but also a bit I didn't. I'll get the negatives out of the way first so I can finish on a positive note. The film missed John Krasinski in an acting role. In the little bit of time we get with him we are reminded of just how charming and charismatic he is. Cillian Murphy just can't replicate it. The film also didn't feel like it added much to the first. The story advances, but we don't get any new information. The film seems to exist purely as a bridge between the first and what I assume will soon be the third entry in the series. There's also a little bit of a hopeless feeling about everything. We aren't exactly sure what the endgame is in all this and that can make it slightly less investing.

The positives though are plentiful. Krasinski proves the original was no fluke, he is indeed a gifted director. The film looks great, in particular the monsters. The characters are again extremely likeable, particularly both of the children. Getting kid actors to make it work is so rare but these films achieve that and the film is so much better for it. Also the pacing is lightning quick. The film is basically non-stop and the credits rolling is going to catch a lot of people off-guard I suspect.

I'm a little torn on this one. I like it, but certainly a little less than the first one. It ramps things up with a lot more action and a lot more of the monsters. But it does miss Krasinski in an acting role big time and doesn't quite have the innovation of the first. It's definitely worth a watch though and I eagerly await the next entry.

Should be longer
danielmanson8 April 2023
This will be one of the only ever times I will say this, but this needed to be a longer film. We currently have a thing where every film seems to be around 2.5 hours for it to be considered "good". And I often disagree as they frequently have scenes etc that are just a waste. But, in this case I do feel like additional time would have benefitted it hugely.

So, to start I really enjoyed this movie regardless of time. Acting was really good, cinematography was outstanding and there was some really intense scenes that had me on the edge of my seat. Which is very hard to do when there's limited dialogue and sound. Ultimately this was very much worthy of a sequel.

I personally didn't find the kids annoying. This was something I picked up on in the first film also, but it's worth mentioning again. When you watch films where kids are part of the main cast it can be annoying (war of the worlds still gives me PTSD from just how frustrating the female child was), but this movie does a great job of that not being the case.

I feel the plot would have benefitted from more scenes. The journey to get to the boat etc, they had a lot of character arcs and storylines to get some depth in and ultimately it felt a little rushed at parts. The plot was definitely more predictable than the first, you knew where it was heading definitely. But the journey was still a fun and intense ride.

Was it a good sequel and a good film? Yes. Was it better than the first? No. But, I'm very glad I've watched and it's definitely one I'll remember.

Great sequel, amazing cinema experience
moviematthewh-6078327 May 2021
Best cinema experience I've had in a while. A near full house with a near silent crowd (some loud eaters heh). Some may not of enjoyed the lack of plot (as in not much happens) and the ending, but I just see this film as a continuation of the story (as it's obvious there will be a third). You have to remember that it's right after the ending of the first one so the setting and time is the exact same, I think some people didn't get that. Millicent Simmonds shines in this film and Cillian Murphy alongside her only makes it better. Emily Blunt is still great but steps down this time and let's Millicent take the spotlight and she uses it perfectly. I didn't find the sequel as scary as the first film, but the scenes that had some jump scares in them were executed very well. Replacing the lack of scares in this film are big action pieces, which are great on the big screen, but I would of preferred more silent scenes where sound is used as a jump scare element rather than big explosions and loud sounds, but the action was still intense. Again, the sound design is perfect, especially when we're through Regans perspective and sound is cut out completely. Favourite scene was definitely the opening, big action scenes and a good origin to how the world is how it is. The only thing that bugged me was the theme of family has died down. It's now become 'every man for himself' almost, but we get a few moments that revolve around the theme of family, but you can see Regan and Marcus trying to be like their father during the film and trying to lead the family to safety. Highly recommend seeing this film, even if horror is not your taste you can appreciate the sound and production design.

A high-flying sequel with the same dose of thrills
resteban-9454024 April 2022
The second installment of "A quiet place II" was one of the most anticipated and delayed films due to the pandemic. A sequel that is at the same level as its predecessor, it arranges the story linearly and keeps the viewer in constant tension during its short 90 minutes.

A quiet place II is a film with a simple story that leaves us with the feeling of having seen little, but its linear narrative and sound management lead the viewer to an experience full of tension and anxiety. The introduction of new characters and communities serves to reflect human behavior in this type of apocalyptic situation. Overall, "A Quiet Place II" is a great movie and an excellent sequel that seriously positions it to be a great horror saga.

"For those who say sequels don't work, "A Quiet Place II quietly breaks the mold and builds the second pillar of another great horror saga"

Loved Cillian Murphy as Emmett and the Abott family seemed to be in the same victim role. The story was no way near as strong as A Quiet Place 1 but I still liked it and love Cillian.

Part 3 is inevitable!
adamkeithmossman27 May 2021
It's rare that we get movie movies that evolve upon their predecessor and leaves us craving more!

Perfect amount of drama, suspenseful moments and action.

John Kransinki has created such a fantastic "monster world" and I can't see anyone else directing these films. This is HIS baby..

10/10, highly recommended.

A good enough sequel
pronitmallick1 July 2021
A Quiet Place Part II is a movie that starts with it's signature move to put the audience right in the middle of suspense and thrill. Director John Krasinski's style of storytelling will make you stuck in your seat and make you crave for more. Acting performances in the movie don't go down even for a bit. Everyone delivered a stunning performance and shined whenever they got time on the screen. Screenplay of the movie is as good as it can be but somewhere in the middle it gets a little down and things become kinda predictable at a certain point. The pacing of the movie starts and ends on a good note with just a few bumps in the middle. The editing and sound design is always a big highlight for this movie series and it shined in this one also. Overall this movie is a must watch especially in the theatres and everyone will enjoy the balance a mix of suspense of thrill with a good enough story.

Don't listen to the foolish reviews bashing it
umichjal29 April 2022
3/4 of the people think this is a good movie and I do as well. Better than the first movie, and adds to the knowledge of what is going on. The writing thing s better than the first movie, and adds to the lore. Minimizes the stupid CGI and expands on the storytelling for us. Recommend.

No where near the original dark storyline and suspense. Just felt it was written to profit on the first movies success. Was more like the walking dead. 9 rating for first, 6 for sequel at best. Only my opinion, and hope people get more enjoyment out of it than I do. Cheers. Brad.

Watch on the big screen, absolutely made for this !
pulp7128 May 2021
I went to see this in an advanced screening, so I had not read any reviews , and I think that is the best way to see it, by not reading reviews so it does not spoil anything. Having seen the first one I was eagerly awaiting part 2, and it's absolutely worth the wait. It was thrilling and tense non stop from start to finish, the pacing is brilliant with great acting. Krasinski as writer and director has absolutely nailed it. I just wish there were more movies of this calibre. I'm not going to spoil anything here, don't read any reviews and just go see this thrilling movie at the cinema on the big screen, as it was made for this..you will not be disappointed.

A Quiet Place Part Two was just as good as part one and kept me in suspense until the very end - which very few movies do for me these days. John Krasinski is so talented as a writer, actor and director. I now want to see more of his movies. Great movie!
