Violence & Gore

  • The film contains multiple violent sequences, in which a family defends itself against alien creatures. They use firearms, fire and traps to kill the creatures. Some injuries and blood is depicted.
  • Some scenes show decaying bodies and skeletons.
  • The beginning scene can be intense for some viewers. Many people get attacked, but most of it is offscreen. There is a bit of blood actually shown in the film, but the tone is still very dark.
  • When the monsters open up their "face plates", they're usually killed with a shot to the head. Minimal gore is shown flying, and at one point, a character sticks an iron rod into a monster's head with dark colored blood spewing.
  • When the monsters attack, there is usually very little blood. It's almost always just a simple swing of their claws that kills people and it's obscured most of the time.
  • There are several bloody footprints throughout the movie.
  • One of the monsters gets shot in the head with a shotgun. Lots of blood spurts out of its head along with a few chunks of its face are blown off.
  • A monster gets a chunk of its face blown off with a shotgun. It is then shot in the back of the head with a rifle. This isnt that graphic though since its only a monster.
  • A man is stabbed bloodlessly in the thigh.

Profanity

  • Multiple uses of "shit" and one use of "Goddamn", mostly said by Cillian Murphy's character.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A woman pours alcohol on a wound. Other than that, no characters drink, smoke or do any drugs in the movie.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film contains horror and supernatural themes.
  • This movie definitely doesn't hold back on the jump scares.
  • The overall movie is very intense and had you jumping more than one, the scenes can last for a couple seconds to a couple minutes.
  • This movie isn't extremely terrifying but is pretty intense.
  • The monsters have a very creepy appearance which may disturb some viewers.

  • Regan kills a monster by cutting its head in half with a metal stick.
  • A woman is hiding in an underground tunnel holding a baby. A creature repeatedly reaches its arm inside trying to grab them and eventually digs its "claw" into the woman's leg. It pulls back which rips her thigh open. Shown in graphic detail very quickly.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • One scene features two of the lead characters being accosted by a group of feral people. This can be emotionally intense.

  • There is a pretty effective jumpscare when Regan is walking through an abandoned train, and birds suddenly fly through it.
  • One of the main characters steps on a bear trap while running from incoming aliens, and it happens out of the blue which is quite frightening. He then let out a bloodcurdling scream at you see a glimpse of the bloody wound.
