Poignant for a post-golden era episode
safenoe28 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, I'm a fan of the golden era of The Simpsons, being the first 10 seasons, although there are some honorary mentions afterwards. This is one of them, and shows that the production team still has the life in them to produce poignant and viewer worthy episodes of The Simpsons.

Mr, Lisa's Opus is worth watching and we get a cameo from Leon Kompowsky (aka Michael Jackson) singing happy birthday to a disinterested Lisa, and yes that brought back memories of when Michael Jackson appeared in a Simpsons episode albeit under a pseudonym but we all knew it was Michael Jackson.

Mr. Lisa's Opus is worth watching at least once.

A Very Bold Future Episode,
lesleyharris3031 October 2018
Mr. Lisa's Opus is a terrific Simpsons episode with a very well written story and a load of hilarious moments. I always love the episodes that explore the character's future, but this episode does so in a very unique way, showing us a side to Lisa we have not seen before and really taking advantage of her as a character.

The only thing I will say is that it did have the tendency to get overstuffed. Longtime writer and executive producer Al Jean wrote a very ambitious script that does, admittedly, stumble at times due to certain details being mentioned but never properly developed.

I have to applaud this episode for truly showing us Lisa Simpson to such an impressive degree for the first time in a while, jumping back and forth from past, future and present, showing her in college and having her struggle to find acceptance and happiness. The episode goes places that I never would have expected, showing us what they can do with Lisa that you never could with the likes of Homer and Bart, because she is an intellect with possibilities very different from the rest of the family.

Funny and heartwarming. Sweet, memorable, Mr. Lisa's Opus is one of the best Lisa focused episode's there's been in awhile.

Jumping back and forth from various of Lisa's birthdays, as she applies for college.

Another great futuristic episode.

Another good entry of the season 29. In this case, with a new parody to Boyhood. It's really great to have such a nice summary of both Bart's and Lisa's life. Honestly, I never imagined that they would dare to parody a movie so similar to another episode. Luckily, they ventured without caring about possible criticism. It was a good decision, although at least I would have liked the episode to be called "Lisahood". It's a small detail, but I wanted to mention it.

Lisa's life progress is connected by her application to Harvard. It is interesting, and it gives rise intelligently to its growth. It all starts with some scenes of Lisa with a year... And she's so cute and adorable! In addition, he interacts with his father, who did not know that euphoric is a word: I let out a loud laugh at that moment.

Then, Lisa begins to remember how she suffered on her seventh birthday, because no one in her family or school remembered her. It is probably the least interesting segment, although I was fascinated by the joke of Maggie's pacifier and that it is Homer who realized it was his birthday (although Flanders had already done it, and without help). "You have 6 years and 365 days." Really fun

The second segment is really attractive. It's true that little has to do with Lisa's life, and that she again abuses the marital problems of Marge and Homer, but it's pretty hilarious, especially the conversion of Homer with Ned's help, and the appearance of Ralph saying he missed Lisa in the second grade.

The third segment is my favorite. The presence of Lisa in Harvard had to become reality in some episode of the series. And they do it with positive results. It is beautiful that it is Bart who helps Lisa adapt, and that she does so without self-interest. In addition, the possibility that Lisa opens to homosexuality is easy to enjoy.

Mr. Lisa's Opus is, in short, a great futuristic episode. In the comparison with Barthood, it loses, because he seems less consistent. However, humor is constant and effective. The characterization of the characters is excellent, with a small exception in Marge, who curiously does not remember her daughter's birthday. The winks to the classic episodes are fantastic, unlike the chilling they were in the previous two, which shows that Al Jean, with all his mistakes, knows a lot about the series and is a great writer. For the moment, my third favorite futuristic episode (below Barthood and Holidays of Future Passed), and the best in this season 29.

A personal insult to Barthood as a sequel and a bad Lisa's episode overall
javcif9 February 2022
The reviews that give this episode as a masterpiece and rate it better than others that touch about the future or have a blind fanaticism to the character that I would not know how to explain, or simply did not really appreciate the chapters that are good and better than this in every way.

This episode tries to look like a spiritual sequel to Barthood, but all the magic of that other episode is lost in lousy jokes (if you laughed when Bart brought up Grandpa's status and still consider this episode better than Barthood, reassess your priorities when you watch again any other "future" episode) which hinder the plot and doesn't allow to develop the concept that they wanted, which to be honest looked interesting, but again, the writers nowadays do not come up with good writing when it comes to Lisa.

The only positive thing I give it is Lisa's design and the end of the chapter, otherwise, it's a total disappointment.
