Faith-Based Film is Authentically Portrayed
larrys330 January 2019
Faith-based drama, based on a true story, depicting the devastating effects of war on military Chaplains, soldiers, and their families. In this case, the film follows a dedicated Army Chaplain (Justin Breuning) in his first deployment to the Iraqi War Zone, in 2007, as well as his equally dedicated wife's (Sarah Drew) desire to aid and comfort families remaining at their home base at Fort Stewart, Ga..

I thought the characters here were realistically presented and believable. At times, the stark realities of war and loss can be difficult to watch, but there are uplifting moments as well.

I'm normally not a regular viewer of faith-based movies, but I felt this one was rather authentically portrayed.

A Christian movie that is surprisingly relatable to non-Christians
JakeBrinkman5 February 2019
Contrary to most Christian movies, you do NOT have to be Christian to enjoy this film.

Christian movies often seem to receive low ratings. I understand low ratings for many of these films because the Christian message is very ham-fisted and is probably not enjoyed by people who are not open to Christianity. However, this is not one of those movies, and that helps make this one of the best Christian films I've ever seen.

This is a movie about struggles within military families, and people who have family members or friends in the military will probably relate very well to these issues. I never shed a tear, but I was fighting them back for about half of the movie. It is paced very well to spread the emotional scenes throughout the movie. As each person attempts to overcome their struggles, only one of these people (a relatively minor character) appears to overcome their struggle through faith. All of the other major and minor characters may be intended by the screenwriter to have God working in the background, but at face value their struggles are all overcome by people helping each other. Despite the main character being a chaplain, the theme of the movie is really that people handle difficult emotions better when they ask others for help.

My biggest complaint is that the dialogue seems quite bland and cliched. It's never obviously bad dialogue, but it's also never particularly inspired. However, the actors still perform quite well, which is not standard for a Christian movie. And again, the overall story is still quite good despite the dialogue.

Ironically, MAGA movies are the sentimental snowflakes of cinema.

Surprisingly Strong Anti-War Film
lavatch8 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In the bonus track of the DVD of "Indivisible," the film artists described two major goals for their film: (1) to dramatize the role that chaplains play in the military and (2) the impact of war on the families at home. As the film project was in the making for six years, it is commendable that the filmmakers met their objectives.

At the same time, there was perhaps a byproduct of this film that was unintentional: a strong anti-war sentiment. It has now been two decades of America fighting senseless foreign wars. This film shows the utter futility of attacks on little towns, civilian casualties, and the devastating effects on the home front of vets returning with PSTD. One of the most unforgettable sequences in the film is that of Chaplain Turner returning home and just sitting and staring off into space as he shuts out his family members from his life.

While on the surface, there was the intent to show how "the armor of God" protects and heals those traumatized by the war experience, the broader scope of the film approached that of such famous Greek tragedies as Euripides' "The Trojan Women" as an anti-war experience. A little girl in Iraq dies. A twenty-one year old soldier perishes in a surprise attack. The neighbor of the chaplain loses a leg. The chaplain himself returns home, takes leave of the military, and assumes a job in a nursery working for "Digger O'Dell." These are all expressions of the insanity of costly and futile wars.

The historical context of "Indivisible" was the decision for a "troop surge" for Baghdad in 2007 during the administration of George W. Bush, which began the war in Iraq. From Fort Stewart in Georgia, a number of recruits are called up for service, and Chaplain Turner accompanies them to Iraq. The utter futility of the combat that ensues was earnestly depicted in a film that raises consciousness about the complete lack of nobility associated with America's tragic foreign entanglements.

This movie might give you PTSD
naturallyrockin31 October 2018
Normally I love faith-based movies -- particularly if they are based on a true story. I find them inspirational & challenging. In the case of Indivisible, I was surprised to find myself really stressed out throughout the movie, and felt like I needed counseling by the time the movie was over. I would blame it on being a 'war movie', except I loved Hacksaw Ridge.

On the positive side, Sarah Drew is always fabulous. She is so absolutely believable and draws you in. Justin Bruening was also great in his role as an actor, but I get really frustrated when movies have scripts with lame answers for tough questions. I'm guessing that Justin isn't a strong believer in real life, and thus there wasn't a real 'spark of life' that accompanied his lines.

All in all, this is a movie I wish I hadn't seen.

Good family drama
npjy8318 January 2019
Family movie which has some tear jerking moments in it. Movie based on a true story. It drags on a little in parts, and a little cringe-worthy in a few places, but all in all a good watch and recommended.

Its not a bad film, it's a very niche film, for a niche I don't enjoy.
Boristhemoggy21 January 2019
This is a faith film, It's all about "I love you" and "I believe". For me it was just too "God loving" to bear. I am an atheist and and while I don't judge believers of any faith, I find it odd for people to people in some mystical fairy who lives invisibly in the sky and rules over us with fear and love at the same time, yet allows atrocities on a daily basis without intervening. So, when a film includes characters such as these believers I find it impossible to connect with them and so I can't enjoy their story. For those who are God fearing christians this is probably a fabulous film. For people like me it's unrealistically fluffy, boring, and unrealistic.

Well done!

When I saw it was a "Christian" film, I expected a lessor quality, however, I was pleasantly surprised that the quality was very good. Tear-jerker

Predictable and by the numbers. Some poor editing but competently made otherwise. Emotionally manipulative. Decent slice of life. Could clean up on the pacing. Dialogue isn't particularly compelling but is competent.

Take people you love...
brianebadger3 November 2018
Sometimes you go to the movies just to be entertained. Tonight we saw the new film "Indivisible," and it literally changed me. Made me cry like a baby. Challenged me to be a better husband, a better father, and a better believer. Yes, it's a "Christian" film, but it's so well done. I highly recommend that you take people you love to see it while you can. You won't be disappointed...

How could the acting be so poor?
If this really is based on a true story, they managed to wreck it with incredibly poor acting and amateurish screenplay. Even the "I want the two hours of my life back" cliche doesn't fit, it's worse than that. Give this one a miss.

A Movie That Means Something
cacram8129 October 2018
Indivisible gives you a glimpse of the hardship, challenges, and sacrifices that service members and their families go through. This movie has moments of total heartbreak, brokenness, and despair, along with moments of compassion, transformation and pure joy. Indivisible makes me even more grateful to the service members and their families for the sacrifices they make to protect our country. Thank you! This movie also explains PTSD in the clearest terms I have ever heard. Understanding PTSD is a vital step in overcoming this terrible disorder. I highly recommend this movie!

Faith based and informative
kennesawcarol2 November 2018
I don't normally go to see 'faith based movies' but was asked to go see this by a friend.

I love movies and see just about everything and really liked this movie.

First of all if "flowed". Lots of movies do not these days they are disjointed and don't follow through on subject lines you want to see. Secondly , it was well acted. There were the 'Grey's Anatomy" actors that have lots of experience but the other actors as well were great. Skye Marshal has the 'credentials' to play a military member. Very impressive, as were the usual's like Michael O'Neill and Eric Close. Tia Mowry does a fine job also. Third it gave you a glimpse into war and its effects on individuals and how people react differently to stress. But then it also came back around and showed the effects on those at home and what they deal with also.

Glad I saw it......and yes, perhaps id didn't merit "10 Stars" but to even out a negative review I went for it.....but either way, it was a solid 8-9~

Great acting
kristenharloff7 November 2018
The storyline was incredible and very touching. As a military family they were multiple situations and points that hit home. Being a pure flix did not lower any standards in the acting category. Everyone in this movie did a fantastic job. I wish it had been on the big screen longer I would've gone to see it there more than once. We will definitely be buying this movie

My first review
preciousonyibe17 January 2019
So my first review and glad its this film. It's a faith based movie and doesn't sugarcoat challenges Christians and marriages face especially in the military. One marriage, one family, under God, this is so true. There's no spoilers here, just check it out and have fun because it's worth it.

Tearjerker
MC1-15 November 2018
We didn't realise the movie was set in Iraq when we went. My girlfriend is from Iraq and cried her way through the movie. She liked the movie even though it bought back painful memories.

The movie sensitively tackles the issues of the young dying in their prime... and the perceived injustice of it all. It contrasts the feelings of the dead, the injured and the uninjured in a way that challenges our preconceptions.

It's hard not to be moved by this movie.

Atheists or agnostics seeking to understand Christianity better would benefit from seeing this film.

:-)

A different perspective
jclotz2 December 2022
This movie is an eye opener. A job very well done! What makes this, along with other films such as Fireproof, Like Arrows, Courageous and more, so captivating is how the storyline is something viewers can personally relate to and learn from. Indivisible was one of the few movies that doesn't revolve around just one spouse making mistakes (an example of this is Fireproof, War Room, actually most films) , in fact this opened my eyes to how I, as a wife, am also at fault in many aspects and that a man isn't always the rock, they fall apart too. The cast of Indivisible were perfect for the job, when more well known actors are featured in films such as this it attracts more viewers. Indivisible was nothing short of EXCEPTIONAL.

Awesome.

I was fortunate to be invited to a VIP preview party. Being a christian doesn't mean we are perfect. We are human. We make mistakes. We get caught up in what life throws at us and need help. Loved this movie!

Must see.
mikemac-106161 April 2019
My wife and I just watched Indivisible and we enjoyed it tremendously. Whether you are a person of faith or not, this film showcases not just the battles overseas during a time of war, but the battles being fought at home and the challenges of reintegration after returning.

Emotional and powerful
nicole_graham-1384025 May 2019
You don't have to be a Christian, or religious at all, to appreciate this film. It is an emotional film and it builds so much empathy for soldiers. My fiancé and I both love this film. One of our favorites!

Great faith based movie
jgriffin-732894 November 2018
This is a great movie. Although it is hard to watch, it shows you what our brave men and women go through over seas and shows you the life and struggle of an army chaplain. I recommend this movie to anyone who loves faith based movies or true stories. Just be ready to cry.

Another Christian Movie...
dinglet29 August 2019
... So let's beat it up, and give it poor reviews.

Before you dismiss the entire genre and this movie specifically, give it a chance. PureFlix should be commended. They have come a long way since their first pieces, with a very polished, professional look. The dialog could be clearer in spots, but hey, what movie doesn't suffer from this problem today?

The acting is excellent. (When you cast your net into the Grey's Anatomy sea, you are bound to pull in some fine fish.)

In summary: watch the film. Go in with an open mind. You might be surprised.
