Found Footage
gab-6759925 March 2022
Man, this movie reminds me of exactly why I am still single! The things ppl to for love is just insane! Well acted and IF you are a fan of found footage then this will be a treat. It did feel like it dragged on but the two leads kept it interesting enough to keep your attention until the end. Lesson here is to be ready to get exactly what you really want. Because if you try too hard things might go exactly your way.

Let's kill a teenager. Everyone hates a teenager. We will be making somebody happy.
nogodnomasters25 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Jennifer (Jennifer Fraser) is a bubbly lovable sociopath who likes to film stuff. She wants to film killing someone from the planning phase all the way through the body disposal. Her boyfriend/husband? Farhang (Farhang Ghajar) who is a Persian Ethiopian, or something, goes along with it, as the things we do for love. He has second thoughts and is pushed when he gets cold feet.

This is a hand held feature by a couple who spends big bucks for a camera and won't invest in a cheap tripod so they can both chop up a body or dig a grave together. The film is a dark comedy and not as overtly funny as "Psychos in Love." You won't find yourself laughing (hopefully) but will be looking at the complexity of love and human nature.

The problem was that the movie was low budget and the filming was bad as if to prove a point. Just because a hand held camera element is in the film, doesn't mean the entire film has to be a hand held camera and shot poorly. We can get the idea if we see someone filming someone else with an occasional view from their camera. I got a deal on E-Bay where the tripod came with the camera. I bet that guy is on Amazon too.

6 soft stars for the subject matter. The actual quality of the production lacked merit.

Guide: F-word. Sex. No nudity.

A better than okay "found footage"film
FIoret14 March 2017
Although Farhang was annoying and bitch boy in every way possible the film still worth the watch. Jennifer, played by Jennifer was believable as an attention needy sick woman. Watch till the very end for the movie to be worth worth the experience. The true sad star was poor ole Gary and the cat :(

Video diary effort with some graphically realistic effects
Leofwine_draca8 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
CAPTURE KILL RELEASE is a micro budget horror film with just a handful of characters in the cast. The premise is pretty nasty and depicts horror in an ordinary, everyday kind of way. It features an attractive young couple living a normal life which is chronicled by a video diary who decide to spice up their existence by committing murder.

This film plays out in a slow and stately fashion with an emphasis on the psychology of the main characters over other elements. In that respect, it makes use of the limited elements available, namely a building and just two main actors. There are some very graphic gore sequences which feature astoundingly realistic special effects but these don't take up much of the running time. Otherwise, there really isn't very much on offer here.

Great POV/FF

Im not into all the found footage movies about ghosts they are all the same. This had good acting, good story, good sex scenes, and whole new view on the found footage genre. It was great. Not really a horror movie though, more of a thriller.

Poorly conceived
jtindahouse11 March 2017
I wanted to like 'Capture Kill Release', I really did. I'm a big fan of the "found footage" genre. It has produced some of my favourite horror films because it can be a very effective tool when used correctly. 'Capture Kill Release' however, was not a film that should have used it. The point of using it is to make things feel as realistic as possible and thus more scary. The way this film used it though had the opposite effect. Instead, I kept thinking to myself how absurd it was that they were filming this and how completely unrealistic the whole thing was.

Another problem I had with this movie was it that it was supposed to be a horror, yet it never once feels like a horror other than the odd bit of gruesome dismemberment. It plays out more like a drama. And that would be fine if that was what they were intending (in fact I think that would have made for a much better film had it focused itself in that direction), but you can clearly tell that they were indeed trying to make a horror movie and simply failed miserably.

Add in some pretty horrible acting from the entire cast and you have a complete misfire. A 90 minute film should never feel this long, dull and drawn out. There are some brilliant films out there in the "found footage" genre. I suggest watching one of those instead.

Decent Film
LLgoatJ5 April 2017
This was a decent film from the beginning. The story is about a "normal" couple who decide to kill someone. It is presented as "found footage" rather than a typical film.

I got the feeling that the guy thinks it is just a joke but the woman is serious. There is really awful scene where a cat doesn't make it to the end of the film, but maybe it says more about me that I found this a worst scene than those involving humans.

There are some pretty explicit scenes that look like a real body is being cut up. There is also some black humour in the planning of the killing and the nonchalance afterwards.

I really liked the two main actors and felt for both of them in the film. The ending was a bit predictable but well done nevertheless. Overall, well worth a watch

Garbage

I wonder where people get ideas to make this sort of tripe

The whole thing is painful to watch. The main "actress" is as annoying as having a pencil pushed through one's nostril.

The shaky camera is vomit inducing.

And the idea of two morons pairing to kill a random person is revolting.

I skipped though most of this abomination and 2-3 minutes were enough to learn that the writers, directors, whatever, should be locked up in a a high-security mental institution for the criminally insane.

Very Well Acted Disturbing Film
pgazzz8 March 2017
I downloaded this movie last night from the play store. I really wasn't expecting much but it was really well made. The female lead is a truly scary character. She puts forth a weird sexuality mixed with this evil desire. Her partner is a hapless loser, that you feel for. I pulled up the cast and was a little surprised they don't have more than a one other credit. Maybe they are acting in commercials? The movie is a great little film. It was obviously filmed on a shoestring budget but don't let that turn you off. I enjoyed the acting and the little bits of humour thrown here and there. I don't usually like the "found footage, first person filming" style, but this time it actually worked. If you get a chance have a little bit of time to kill on an evening, give it a try.

Amazing!

For such a low budget film is was perfect. Acting was great. Jennifer Fraser stole the show. She played everything realistic. Her crazy side and laugh was a genuine feeing. How is this her only role ever? Shows true horror that can really happen. I would recommend. Check it out.

Psychotic fun.
ocosis13 December 2021
A cute woman and her estranged boyfriend decide to kill people, because...why not? Things get messy and out of hand though. Capture Kill Release has one of the most realistic dismemberment scenes that I've seen. Great FX work. Jennifer Fraser, as the psychotic lead, was a fun performance. Above notch found footage film.

I didn't find it overly entertaining
kevin_robbins3 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Capture Kill Release (2016) was a movie I recently caught on Tubi after seeing a movie poster of it posted in Fresh Blood Theater recently. The storyline focuses on a couple that continuously talk about "if they murdered someone" what their strategy would be. The wife becomes infatuated with the idea and when a jerk makes her mad, she feels inspired to move forward with their plan whether her husband wants to or not. This movie is directed by Nick McAnulty (Uncle Brian) and Brian Allen Stewart (directorial debut) and stars Farhang Ghajar (Man Seeking Woman) and Jennifer Fraser. The storyline itself had potential; unfortunately, the constant bickering between the couple made me feel awkward like when your friend and their significant other argue while you're visiting...I had to pause the movie 5-6 times to take a break from their non-stop bickering. It was painful at times. While that's the premise and ultimate resolve of the movie, I didn't find it overly entertaining. I was very disappointed in how this was put together and written and would score it a unsatisfactory 3.5-4/10.

Brilliant performances
songod-9500313 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This foray into mental illness would not have been possible without the terrific acting of the leads, especially Jennifer Fraser. According to IMDb this is her first movie but I cannot believe this is her first acting job. As both the protagonist and antagonist she truly makes us believe she is who she plays.

The actor playing the other lead also is exceptional, though the characters sudden change of perspective mid-way is a bit too sudden. That of course can be attributed to the script and possibly the director.

The film also gets pluses for actually having an ending. So many movies today, especially in the hand held\found footage genre, just end without a denouement; leaving the audience to wonder what happened\what will happen. No, this is clear and concise.

I wish I could give it more than a 6 but the sudden switch in character tone mid-way which pitted the two leads against each other simply didn't click with me. Had the turnabout character been only playing along to appease their kinky partner that should have shown through more in the first act. Instead, out of nowhere, they becomes reluctant to the point of blaming everything on the other! Regardless, highly recommended if for nothing more than the star making performance by Jennifer Fraser.

Great concept
jamiespicer-9823612 December 2018
Great concept with intriguing characters. The characters are played really strongly with the female actress being a standout. The ending is satisfying. A few dumb decisions by the characters and pacing issues stop Capture, Kill, Release from getting a higher rating.

Bloody Black Psycho-Comedy
Armin_Nikkhah_Shirazi15 July 2023
CAPTURE KILL RELEASE is a found footage movie that has a premise reminiscent of that of movies going back all the way to ROPE (1948) by Alfred Hitchock, itself inspired by the real-life Leopold and Loeb murder of 1924, where two young men, in order to prove their superior intellect, attempted to carry out the "perfect murder". They were, however, later caught and sent to prison.

In this movie, the motivational aspect for carrying out the perfect murder by a couple is not spelled out, but it is clearly still implied, since not getting caught is prerequisite to being able to continue.

The movie can be read as a pitch-black commentary on the lengths to which some are willing to go to please their partner in a romantic relationship. Jennifer Fraser is fantastic as the beautiful, sexy, crazy and deadly instigator of the couple's "project" of killing a random stranger and documenting it, and Farhang Ghajar delivers a naturalistic performance as her reluctant husband who genuinely loves his wife but underestimates what he is getting himself into for her.

The beginning of the movie records their meticulous preparations, including ascertaining that they really have all the necessary tools at their disposal and even consulting a medical textbook in order to learn how to properly dispose of the corpse. Once the deed is done, the film pulls no punches on how their preparations are put into practice in some scenes that are not for weak stomachs.

Once the husband understands the horrific implications of what they have done, he wants to stop, but his psycho wife is just getting started.

Despite the black humor, the movie retains a high degree of realism throughout. This is one of few movies where the serial killer is a woman. One other found footage black comedy featuring a female serial killer, but from the angle of social commentary on the role of women artists in society, is I BLAME SOCIETY (2020).

Overall, this is a well-produced, amusing yet disturbing found footage horror thriller.

Hooked me immediately. LIke nothing you've seen before. Great!

This movie is like nothing you've seen before. The acting is superb. I'm not sure how much of the dialogue is scripted or impromptu, but it is completely plausible and believable. Not the typical low budget production. Highly recommended.

Must See
I'm a huge horror fan and this movie by far has been one of the best horror films I've seen in years! It captures the psychological aspect of horror and psychopaths while adding the element of gore in the first person perspective. There were parts where I had to look away, but couldn't.

Can't look directly at it....but also can't look away
hood_lumm8 March 2017
honestly, I'm a huge horror, slasher, thriller etc movie buff. I love me a good old fashion disturbing tail told through the eyes of an even more disturbed story teller.

THIS movie had me locked in from the opening scene right to the ending credits. It's not your typical found footage film, there are so many layers and I really truly hope to see more from these writers/directors in the near future!

MUST SEE!

cheers

An unusual, distressing horror movie
jdollak13 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Capture Kill Release is a fascinating movie. I don't know if I'll ever re-watch it, but I think I'll remember it pretty clearly.

It doesn't start off with a bang, but it builds and hooks interest pretty well. I can imagine if this were a bigger budget, and had more studio control, they would want to start it off with a bit of the future to whet the audience's appetite.

A large amount of time is spent getting sucked into conversations and preparation for killing a person. The logistical talks, buying equipment. There's even a test, using a saber saw on chunks of meat to see how well it performs.

This is a pleasant change of pace. We see lots of horror movies where the killer has some chamber of horrors already prepared, hanging hooks and implements of torture laid out. But this is more of an exploration of the steps needed to reach that state.

That may sound boring, but it brings a level of realism and humanity to the movie that is much more disturbing. We are able to identify with the characters - at least for a while.

Our primary window into this movie is through the husband, who starts off fairly interested in this project, but realizes the reality of what is happening pretty quickly. His interest in killing is romanticized by movies, where the victims might not have a defined identity. He brings this up; he's bothered when she keeps referring to their victim by name.

Throughout the movie, I thought I knew how things were going to end. Instead, the last few minutes kept reinforcing what I was expecting, only to subvert it at the last second.

As many people have mentioned, there is the death of a cat in this movie. It is distressing, but it's also needed in order to move things forward. It could have been done a different way, but I'm not sure if it would have been effective. To be fair, it's handled quickly, and not graphically.
