Dumb name for a great movie!
maccaluver84420 September 2018
I really enjoyed this film. The cast was all likable and the characters believable. A few suspend belief moments but overall a feel good Hallmark movie. Try it, you'll like it!

10/10 for the genre, real & feel good
chillibec787 October 2020
Great film, not sickly sweet like a lot in this genre. It felt real, more authentic. Luke Perry was a gem in it. Lovely scenery and quite a few unexpected laughs. 7/10 general rating but an extra point added for Luke Perry's performance.

She makes a real cowboy out of a fake one
phd_travel1 March 2019
An actor cowboy or a fake cowboy goes to real ranch retreat resort and falls for a woman who runs it. Luke Perry and Emmanuelle Vaugier playbthe couple. The pairing is age appropriate. The ranch looks nice. A little fantasy element as he helps round up horses. It's not too exciting but it's an okay background watch.

Horses and Humor
jearly-513 March 2019
The horses and scenery are beautiful. The plot is predictable but the constant humor makes this a fun movie to watch more than once. Casting was perfect.

Fun hit tip to Perry's previous Westerns for Hallmark
fredthompson-980-91246329 January 2019
Luke Perry made 3 "Goodnight for Justice" Westerns for Hallmark. Three years later, "Love in Paradise" was released. This is a really fun nod to the Goodnight films, especially the way it makes fun of the Beverly Hills 90210 lifestyle and Western movies.

Pretty Good Relaxing Movie
docm-323041 January 2022
This is a very nice entertainment. It doesn't get overly childish with the romance part and has a humorous plot. There are some awkward/unrealistic age issues that are overlooked, but all in all it is a reasonable feel good movie within an attractive setting. As a country boy myself, I found this film amusing.

Kept me watching
Jackbv12314 September 2023
Common premises. Save the family ranch from the evil developers. City boy comes to the ranch and meets a real cowgirl. Their start is about as rocky as it can get. No fisticuffs but there is a concussion. All the animosity disappears way too quickly. Small town is way better than the city. Man and woman are thrown together and it is not hard to figure out what happens after that.

I can't believe I have never reviewed this or rated it. This is at least the third time I've seen it, but it has been 7 years. Despite there not being any highs or lows or surprises, I had no trouble watching and enjoying it a third time.

Luke Perry and Emmanuelle Vaugier have chemistry. I enjoyed watching them even remembering most of what happened.

The acting in the Aim to Please movie clips is really bad. No one would ever go to more than one. But I'm pretty sure that was intended.

This is Hallmark of the past and the values haven't yet changed. This is a family friendly movie.

Luke is Fantastic
vlchaser21 August 2017
Gorgeous location, beautiful horses, story moved along at a good pace. This is one of the best movies I've seen on Hallmark. Luke Perry is a great actor, he was so naturally funny that you really like him. I would love to see more movies with him. I didn't realize he was so accomplished but now I will search for other movies with him.

And Matt Frewer is always a wonderful bonus - he is the reason I decided to watch it - and then I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Nice diversion
nptomey9 August 2022
This was a pretty pleasant movie. I didn't know much about Luke Perry. He did a fine job in this movie. It was placed in a beautiful location. For the most part, no one overacted. It was fun to watch Luke Perry become a bonafide cowboy. The horses were indeed beautiful. My favorite scene was bringing home the horses after the real estate jerk ran them off. A descent outing for sure.

Great Chemistry between leads and good humor
jsheets-540681 September 2018
This Hallmark movie had very relatable characters who have lots of humorous moments. The developing romance was very believable which sometimes doesn't happen in all Hallmark movies.

Typical Hallmark
Elkabong194017 January 2018
Typical Hallmark B movie made on a shoestring in British Columbia. Casting was questionable with Luke Perry as a cowboy movie hero. As far as I am concerned, the only good thing about this film was the gorgeous Emmanuelle Vaugier. I can't believe she doesn't get better roles.

Great story line

Warning: Spoilers
Loved the ranch and location. Luke Perry was a bonus. Loved his character. All in all it tells the story we all get lost from time to time in our lives but if we slow down and breath and listen to our heart we can finally find our true selves. Love this movie!

Enjoyable. Not sure if I spoiled anything too much with my review but just in case....

Warning: Spoilers
Avery Ford, played by Luke Perry, is an aging, struggling, actor who plays a cowboy in a series of movies, called Aim to Please. His personal life is far from the cowboy life and lives in a New York City apartment with all the modern trappings, preferring sushi, manicures, facials and dress slacks over blue jeans and cowboy boots. He checks the weather using Siri vs. being outdoors. Meanwhile, Casey Twain, a Champion Saddle Bronc Rider, owns a dude ranch in Montana and is in dire straights financially, struggling to keep it open and running. Casey's daughter Heather is helping him during the busy season. They need a big name person to stay at the ranch to attract customers. Casey is a fan of the Aim to Please movies, and his daughter Heather hatches a plan to have Avery come to the ranch for a weekend to do P.R. event. Luke Perry is perfect in this role as the sullen, reluctant, actor, taken out of his element. Avery looked tired and worn out, but the country had an effect on him. Of course, there is an attraction between Avery and Heather. I enjoyed this movie, and I never found myself becoming bored. The scenery is beautiful, and the actors have good chemistry. I have to admit, I was a bit shocked at how Luke Perry has aged but it worked well in this movie.

Love on the ranch
TheLittleSongbird18 October 2022
'Love in Paradise' is the first 2016 Winterfest film and also the first 2016 Hallmark outing. Other than Hallmark film completest sake, the main reason for watching was the two leads. Who have both been good in other things, with more familiarity with Luke Perry. Hallmark's Winterfest films overall have been very variable, same though with all their seasonal blocks every year, and so have their films set on a ranch. Some good, some mediocre at best, some in between.

One of the good ones is 'Love in Paradise'. Which is a very promising way to start off Hallmark's 2016 output and much better than the slightly corny and misleading title (which would be better suited to a Summer Nights film) indicates. It is a contender for the best 2016 Winterfest film, is for me one of the better Winterfest films overall and is one of Hallmark's better efforts for that year. As far as Hallmark's ranch set films go, 'Love in Paradise' is better than most.

It is not perfect. Do agree that the real estate conflict was rather stale and not enough really is done with it.

As is the case with most Hallmark efforts, it is very easy to predict where most plot elements are going to go with it being very faithful to a familiar formula.

There is however a lot to like about 'Love in Paradise'. It is a good looking film visually, regardless of the lack of authenticity/accuracy the scenery is gorgeous and taken full advantage of in the photography. The music has been known to be overdone and intrusive in Hallmark, it is pleasantly festive here. The script is playfully light-hearted and has a good deal of heart without being sentimental.

Furthermore, the story is far from perfect, but it was clear what it was trying to do and wanted to be and it is very charmingly cute and heart-warming. The ending isn't over neat. The characters were ones worth engaging with, with flaws not being overdone while also not being too perfect. Both Emmanuelle Vaugier and Perry are great, particularly Perry who has a lot of charm and great comic timing, and their chemistry is very believable throughout. Both playful and full of heart, while not being rushed or aimless. The supporting cast are solid.

Summing up, very well done. 8/10.

Excellent cast, great locations
bearcat-713 March 2019
Excellent cast and good (not overly saccharine) script places this a couple steps beyond the usual Hallmark romantic comedy fare.

The leading lady looks a bit too glamorous to be a Montana cowgirl...but hey, it's a movie. Luke Perry does well as a "fish out of water" New York-based actor in the big sky country.

And it's good to see Matt Frewer as the country vet.

Sure, the "evil" real estate developer plot device is a bit stale..and a Hallmark staple, likewise the city slicker agent (and potential romance rival to the the leading lady) character is very predictable. Still, the rest of the script makes it easy to overlook those shortcomings.

Well worth your time of you're in the mood for some light fun.

Totally enjoyable
manfredpeter-0962814 August 2020
Cast and script way above hallmark standard. Notice that Luke Perry credited eith writing. Maybe that's why there are some seriously funny moments. Dialogue clever. Story moved along nicely. Credit to Director. Loved the dad. Luke Perry perfect and female lead personal favorite of mine. I've seen her over the years in Charmed, NCIS, Supernatural and more. Although beautiful, I think she pulled off the cowgirl thing just fine.

Luke Perry and cast were great....
ronalamont-9147229 May 2019
This was a really simple, enjoyable movie and I almost forgot it was "Hallmark". The acting was great, the pairing of Avery and Heather was believable and with realistic chemistry and it was a solid cast. The fact that he couldn't ride at all was a bit too much given his roles in his westerns but they made the script believable because they were.

A welcome change of pace
MickyG33326 January 2023
7.6 stars.

What I like about 'Love in Paradise' is the diverse cast, not the usual Hallmark regulars, and I feel it's because they wanted something special. The plot is nothing new, but the way it's filmed, the variety of music, the scenery and acting style it's not like the usual generics.

The dialogue is off the beaten path from the familiar lines, the actors are more down to earth, more genuine somehow. We are not dealing with the fake sets, and exaggerated baubles and lighting, and the perfect angles for the perfect kisses and all that repetitive stuff. This is a great change of pace from the norms. It felt like a whole new genre.

'Love in Paradise' is about an actor whose career is on the decline, and on a ranch he discovers his best self with a lot of help from a woman with a tough exterior and a tender heart. She is not hard on the eyes, but she's soft on the inside. Luke Perry has a really good performance outside the usual brooding and artificial, and more toward the flawed and visceral. This was a rarely witnessed side of him, a better side. I'm sad he's no longer with us.
