A great show ruined by an horrible season finale
Skanama27 March 2024
Ozark was such an amazing show during his 3 first seasons, a masterpiece of drama combining poignant intrigue, mastered production, meticulous writing touched by a dose of skillfully distilled black humor. It's was one of my favorites shows and one of the few that I rated 10 but now i just give it a 8 because the season finale has completely ruined my love for this show because this season 4 was so bad oh my god...

For real Ozark season 4 is one of the worst seasons finales i've ever seen with Dexter season 8, Peaky blinders season 6, GOT season 8, TWD season 11, House of cards season 6, Vikings season 6, Westworld season 4, etc... and i don't understand why i was the only one shocked by how bad this season finale was ?

Season 4 is lack of action, tension or typical Ozark's plot twist/violence. The pace is extremely slow and storyline does not conclude properly. Everything goes so fast around the last 30 minutes, and so many questions to answer. It's predictable, and weak compared to the quality of the 3 first seasons, did they switch of writers or what ?

There was characters coming in and out and one minute they all hate each other and then don't. It was just inconsistent and felt like they weren't sure how to finish everything. A lot of plots ultimately lead to nothing more than a pointless storyline.

The ending is a joke, it doesn't feel like an ending. Just a regression of most of the characters and the final scene is nonsense in every conceivable way. Ozark ending fails while Sopranos ending doesn't. The writers did not spend any effort on the final and find how to resolve the built-up tension through four seasons! It felt like a last-minute homework of a terrible student. What a waste, this season finale just ruins the show !

Pretty dark
jimbird-8934619 March 2024
I get how good the show is, intense and dark showing the nature of what will do to survive. I was rooting for the family in season one but after a while, seeing how disconnected and unemotional everyone was, I had no one to root for.

I guess I like to see something of myself in the main characters that I can relate to, so I lost interest. I know it's great acting and yes feels very real, I felt like I was trainwrecks waiting to happen. I think a lot of people are tuning in to see someone's whose life is worse so they can feel better, too deep?

Anyways, hats off to Jason Bateman for making a gripping show, you keep seeing the darker side of humanity and wondering "is this really how bad it is?"

Nerve wrecking thriller worth the watch
matthewnezat22 July 2017
This series is a home run for Netflix. Its a gripping series with superb casting for every character. It is an edge of your seat thriller that grips the audience from the very start. Throughout each episode you are helplessly wondering how Jason Bateman's character will pull through. The writers of the show are spot on with every twist. I highly recommend giving this series a chance and i can't wait for season 2 to come out. From the first episode to the last it is a brilliant masterpiece that deserves better reviews than other people have given. %100 one of the best new series of the year.

Once you're there, you'll never come back
anggerborys24 January 2024
Definitely, one of best Tv shows about mafia on NETFLIX. Events unfold slowly, but with enormous progress and cruelty. Each character plays their role on final. The most important thing in Ozark its relationships between family, when children grow up and see what their parents do. As a result, the children's consciousness breaks down and they will begin to imitate their parents.

  • Jason Bateman, opened up in a new, non-comedy way and amazed. The character of Marty Byrde himself was pragmatic and sometimes pathetic. Unlike his wife, who became very cruel and insane.

  • A very good «book» on business corruption and responsibility for it. Understanding that once you plunge in, you will never get out again.

Enjoyed it and also glad it ended
esjacobs1 May 2022
The first seasons were solid, great actors and story. At the end of season 3 and going into 4 I got tired of the byrds, they are getting more desperate and it got more unbelievable. The story got more of the same and glad it wrapped up. I'm glad they don't drag on the story and keep it to these 4 seasons.

Intense from the very beginning with higher stakes each episode
iiayushshettyii26 January 2024
Ozark sets itself in a high stakes environment and carries that high intensity throughout the series . The episodes and story are easy to watch and don't drag anything too much . As someone who gets bored very quickly , it kept me on my seat from the beginning .

Jason Bateman gives an exceptional performance . Probably the most likable anti-hero ever . Same goes for all the other characters in the Byrde family .

However in spite of all of this , the ending left me utterly confused and disappointed and looking for answers . I felt that the writers had created something that they could not handle and thus fumbled the ending with so many open threads .

I highly recommend it regardless of that . You will enjoy . Go in with an open mind . Also stay off reddit and the wiki to avoid spoilers.

I never would have watched this if not for the quarantine. It wasn't promoted well. I LOVED IT! Great script, tons of action and characters that you love to hate and hate to love.

Shot in the dark
cnrmpysqd14 February 2024
It was a very riveting series with lots of twists and turns throughout. The characters were very real people, very believable situation in these times with the cartels in this world. It is not a show in my opinion for a young audience even though it's not hard to believe this is how things are for real people in the underworld of drug cartels and weapons etc. My only complaint is that the show was very hard to view, it is very dark. A lot of the show it was like watching a black screen. It was frustrating wondering what was taking place for a lot of it. All in all great acting and a good story line.

And it ends like that?!
maddyschiappa17 May 2022
I enjoyed the entire journey. I watched so many things go wrong and so many things go right. And THAT'S how you end the season finale of all seasons?! I'm so disappointed.

Still give it a good rating though cause it's about the journey not the destination. But the destination was incredibly disappointing. I will just go lie down and stare at the ceiling in a state of depression now.

If You Liked Season 1 , You Hvae To See Season 2!!!
abewaraa10 September 2018
In my opinion best show on Netflix. The writing is superb !! I cant stress this enough!! so many twists and angles. Anything could happen. Show is dark blue .The cinematography is amazing and the soundtrack!! I love those moments in the show and there are plenty when they make you feel something evil about to happen. The thrill , the intensity . This is something new on TV. You have to see for yourself. Such good acting and writing and they haven't even invested in the Cartel,Mob story a lot . Hope they do that in season 3.

A tense, tight and consistently entertaining thriller
danny2567421 July 2017
Ozark is pretty much what you'd expect it to be. Its a pretty tense what-is-he-going-to-do-now type of storytelling that makes it easy to binge-watch.It also holds your attention as Jason Bateman plays a similar kind of character as the likable anti-hero keeps falling in trouble.Similar to breaking bad but also quite different.

Let down by its final season ..
jologo-1264913 May 2022
Took me several episodes to get into this series. The first 3 seasons had a compelling story, but gradually the plot began to stretch credulity. Season 4, the final season, went too far in this regard, so cannot recommend.

One of the darkest, heaviest shows out there, and so well written
Amthermandes21 January 2023
Finished Breaking Bad and looking for something to fill the void? Well unless you've also exhausted the emotional roller-coaster shmorgishborg that "Better Call Saul" and "The Walking Dead" has to offer, I can't think of any other better outlet than "Ozark."

This show is INTENSE. One of the great things about the show, are the characters. And everybody does a fantastic job acting, no matter how small the role. They'll have you at the edge of your seat, nodding your head in approval, or even laughing (oh my gosh the GOGGLES in the second to last episode, that had me going). Great directorial decisions, phenomenal acting, especially from Julia Garner and Laura Linney. I mean, talk about a TRUE achievement for women in the world of entertainment. Personally, and not to bore anyone with my opinion in the world of social politics, but anything brought on directly by the modern feminist movement is crap. But I gotta say, these two ladies KILLED it and deserve every award possible. They stand out as talented monuments of women's achievements in the world of entertainment. Sure, Jason Batman deserves recognition too, playing the seemingly autistic genius father-gone-rogue role, a role so different from his usual forte, but those two actresses steal the show, and I look forward to any and all projects to which they are tied.

It's got emotions, it's got slow burns too, but without those, a show like this would become too redundant and predictable too quickly. It's well written, and for the average mature adult, it's well worth a watch.

Ultimately disappointing
beastiex29 March 2020
Seasons 1and 2 were great but from there it slowly went downhill. In the end the whole thing felt unrealistic and as for the ending the less said the better.

The Finale left me flat
shelmar11 May 2022
I loved Ozark through ALL it's seasons but the final episode did not do the series justice. It frankly left me flat and disappointed. It left giant holes in the plot and could've done some characters better justice.

High Quality Drama
damianphelps23 January 2023
Its a quality show from start to satisfying finish.

Ozark possesses a very rich tapestry of characters that change with the story as good characters should. They don't stagnate, there is growth and change, good and bad.

As is contemporary television, characters do get killed, some you will miss, others you won't.

How the story unfolds provides plenty of interesting moments and (particularly season 3) some strong and entertaining tension.

Its a very addictive show and pretty easy to binge.

One of the great strengths of the show is the number of seasons. They chose to end it earlier rather than later, keeping quality over quantity.

Definitely recommend :)

Where has this show been all my life
rotten-potatoes17 March 2024
Wife and binge watched 4 seasons in about 4 weeks. Thank goodness we watched it together because otherwise I woulda knocked it out in a week on my own.

The show got me hooked about 10-15 minutes in. And that element that hooked me in that first episode, continued for 4 seasons. Episode after episode of this intense drama and suspense. And it should be technically a dark comedy, but it's so much tension and suspense that the dry comedy just went over heads.

My only criticism would be the first season, which is odd because it was so awesome. But all the irrelevant romantic scenes and stripclub scenes that added literally nothing to the series, I could have did without. But I'm nitpicking because the show was awesome.

I was gonna rate this 8 in an attempt to sound objective but then I thought, what would Wendy do?

Fantastic, gripping new series!
ggarfole23 July 2017
I finished bingeing on this show over the last 2 days. All I can say is, "WOW"! The characters are all interesting and intense as usual from this Netflix release. Again, comparing this series to Breaking Bad is somewhat justified, but with a Bloodline, Gone Girl, kind of feel to it.

The cinematography is amazing (Although, according to filming location info- very little is actually filmed in the Ozarks) I did notice the Bagnell Dam bridge sign is the current one (My family vacations there, having most recently been there in summer of 2016)

This show is a definite nail-bitter and you never know how the larger-than-life troubles will get resolved, but somehow, Bateman's character, Marty , is the man with the plan. If you like crime thrillers, this is one of the best I've seen in years!

Can't wait for Season 2 (and 3,4,5,6, etc...)

I liked it but couldn't stand Wendy (Laura Linney)
Supermanfan-1319 April 2024
I know it hasn't been long since it ended but I already miss Ozark. This show absolutely, without a doubt, lives up to all the hype it gets! It's a gripping thriller where the tension continues to build throughout each episode and each season and then pays off in a huge way! It really is a must watch show! People like to compare it to Breaking Bad and while I don't agree with that comparison because BB is the better show, Ozark is still terrific and worth every second. The one thing I can't stand about this show is Laura Linney's character (Wendy)! While I don't mind Linney as an actress, because she's a pretty good one, in this she plays an annoying know it all who doesn't appreciate everything Marty (Jason Bateman) has done for the her and the family. Again, it's not her fault, it's just the way her character was written and as annoying as she was it still doesn't take away from the fact that this is such a phenomenal show.

Directing, Acting, Atmosphere, etc. - I love everything about this show
TeamTrooper19 March 2021
Ozark is a top-3 tv-show for me personally. It is not one part in particular why I gave this show a 10/10, but every single little detail falls perfectly in place.

Every character has its unique story. Through the three seasons, I caught myself following every character build and falling in love with most of them.

One of my favorite aspects is the feeling you get through the atmosphere all directors create. The darkish shots blend in perfectly with the Ozarks area (at least for me as a European :D).

Probably the biggest reason for me to give out the 10/10 though would be me craving for the next episode / next season. I don't get that crave for a lot of shows or movies these days. I am pumped to see what they have in store in the futute.

Why did I ever put off watching this...
brummieman13 March 2024
This show is one of the best things since sliced bread , I put off watching it thinking it was going to be a predictable yawn badly trying to imitate the superiority of Breaking bad, I was definitely wrong. I also thought it would be no where near as good as 'Breaking Bad, I was wrong again, it IS on par with Breaking bad. Enough has been said about the story line and how brilliant each actor/ress is, Ruth is Oscar winning material, maybe they all are, I am simply going to give ithis a massive 10 out of 10 and leave it there with a 'You will definitely binge watch this once you have got past the first episode" I couldn't turn it off.

I don't understand the high rating. Slightly overrated.
NeonDeity8 May 2022
The series is a solid 7 when it peaks and 6 most of the time. I have no clue how this series is rated this high. I just slogged through season 3 and 4 just because i already invested my time watching the first two seasons. Everyone starts acting like a moron from season 3. They create problems which could be so easily avoided. The show wants you to be an idiot so that you can ignore these stupid things and enjoy it. MEDIOCRE is the word. Not bad but not good either. Just overrated. That said, Julia Garner does an amazing job as Ruth, almost carries the show. Laura is a fantastic actress too.
