Same old recipe seasoned well
ramanfifaps13 February 2019
This is a classic story about terminally ill teenager with a cliched bucket list. Although there is nothing novel to the plot, the cast is on point, music is refreshing and the filming locations are beautiful. Watching this won't be a life changing experience, but it won't be a waste of your time either.

Not challenging but Nice
mohammadfarsi-978504 February 2019
It can be one of the most faviurite 2018 moves that I've watched. Good filming location and sweet musics made the movie sound better. The story was told repeatedly, for instance "The fault of our stars" or "the perks of being wallflower" have the same story. However, I had a different feeling about this movie. To be honest after I watched the aforementioned movies, I became depressed while after watching this one I felt relief.

Nice film not too heavy
pauljohnfederico7 February 2019
This is a film about a girl having a chronic illness rom-com film that we've seen on the fault in our stars. The premise is the same if you've watched that film and i recommend you doing so, But this is a more lighthearted film than tfios. Acting is the definite positive in this film, Cast is good Asa and Maisie williams made this movie a good movie. It's one exhilarating film and i know that love this type of genre will definitely like this one.

Asa Butterfield shines. An emotional ride.
lyntonm4 February 2019
I recently decided to watch this after having seen Asa Butterfield's role in "Sex Education" on Netflix and thinking he was an amazing actor. His work in this film is no different.

The story lacks substance in some parts, but throughout the movie, you grow attached to the relationship between Butterfield (Calvin) and Maisie Williams (Skye.) The story is cheesy in parts and at times Williams put me off, but there's no denying Butterfield's depth of character in that he conveys emotion so well, albeit awkwardly at times and makes the viewer fond of him.

The film contains some great heart-warming moments, some which we can all identify with while still providing the occasional laugh.

simple and heartfelt movie
natcalgary11 February 2019
This was a very simple movie that didn't try to do to much but did it right. It makes you realize how precious life is and how lucky we all are to be alive. A simple story about a boy and girl who changed each others lives forever.

The acting was great, and the story had ups and when it was over questions still lingered in my head and the viewer pretty much had to figure out some stuff when the closing credits started.

A moving tale
npjy835 February 2019
Think of the movies "A walk to remember" with Mandy Moore and "The Bucket List" with Morgan Freeman. Put them both together and you get this movie. The acting is brilliant, characters are very likable and funny. The story is sad but adds comedy into it. Recommend the movie. The swearing is mostly in the first half of the movie, it's like they decided to stop it in the second half. I am usually a hard critic, however I loved this story.

When Asa Cries I Cry
davidsask8 May 2019
Asa just makes this movie, even though he is the second lead or co-lead! He is adorable! When one can reach great acting that young, with a face look or small motions, bravo! As my title says I cried quite few times, The second half of movie exceeds the first; However all through story one emotes. As I like to say in many a review, This is not a new subject plot wise, with teens as cast. I would put this a little above middle. 7/10

Death has never been as blunt and honest
chubbygirl-0693010 March 2019
The first half of the movie, I previously thought, was superficial. Skye and Calvin had so much dynamics together yet it could have been executed in a way that viewers could find it more profound. While Maisie Williams had an amazing performance, Asa Butterfield's acting fluctuates throughout the movie.

However, the second half shows why it deserves a 10 stars for me. In theatre, this type of illness-death story has been told plenty of times, creating a good number of conventions and cliche for the genre. This movie gives you something completely different. It depicts a beautiful and wonderful platonic friendship that people have rarely seen even though we desperately need one (despite the fact that deep down inside, we still ship them because of the chemistry they had together). In addition, it deals with cancer and death in the most brutal yet very blunt and honest way, which hits you really hard at your emotion.

I love the direction it chose to take. It's cute and vibrant and filled with energy, even till the last minute of the movie, despite how tough the problem they were dealing with.

Personally, as a person around their age who is also working on figuring out myself, I relate to them considerably and feel inspired significantly by this movie. It's an important one. One that I would love to recommend to everyone.

Worth the watch - Maisie and Asa shine
Tron793 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to see this movie because of Maisie Williams. Similar stories have been done in movies several times in recent years. "Then Came You" doesn't make it to the level of "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl", but it's still worth the watch. In "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl", I found the characters much more unique and realistic. Maisie's and Asa's performances did carry the film though. I wished they would have delved more into the way Maisie's character felt abandoned by her friends. I liked the way they started out with the scene with her three girl friends ignoring her. They were having a hard time dealing with the fact that she was dying. But later on, they seemed to get over it, and we never really saw how that happened. We saw Maisie drinking heavily at a party. I thought it may interfere with her meds and she may have a seizure. Instead she just threw up out in the street with Asa and seemed to genuinely have a good time at the party. I think they had some missed opportunities to make the characters more unique and real. But I still thought both Asa and Maisie did a great job with the script they were given. I did think the flight attendant seemed a bit old for Asa. She said there was 3 years difference, but it looked almost like a teacher and student type of thing.

I do think this was a good performance for Maisie. It was worth the watch. But, it makes me want to watch "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" again. I have watched it twice already. It's really the best in this genre. I loved seeing Maisie though!!

leong_tommy2 February 2019
This was not my type of movie but somehow I went to see it. I was very happy that I saw it. Yes, there were laughter and tears and I'm male. All cast did a great job in making the movie feel alive. It's definitely worth seeing

A little different YAF terminal illness romance
phd_travel26 February 2019
A little different from the usual YAF movies. Asa Butterfield plays a morose hypochondriac who is healthy but attends a cancer support group. He meets a British girl who is sick and helps her with her bucket list. Wish the actress had been more appealing. She's quite funny as she plays the cancer card.

It avoids the cutesy things some YAF movies suffer from. Nina Dobrev is in a supporting role as a flight attendant and object of his affection.

OK for one watch.

I'm not sure where all these 10* reviews are coming from but it's likely not for this movie
pharosproductions14 July 2019
I can see how some people may enjoy this movie a little bit but all the WOW 10*'s is a bit fishy, and you could tell within the first few minutes that this is not a 10* anything.

The chemistry between the characters Maude and Asa is just off, I honestly think a lot of this movie is supposed to annoy you. I was not a fan of how the majority of the characters played off each other.

It may be for you so give it a shot but it just rubbed me the wrong way, and obviously I was a big fan of hers in the 'ol dragon show. Oh well, hopefully she can pick something else up.

Unbearbly saccharine, even my Maisie William fan teen daughter couldn't stand it.
VoyagerMN198620 December 2018
I was on a business trip up to Kingston with my 14-year-old daughter in tow. The WFF promotors were giving out same tickets to this at the airport and since we did not need to where we were going til the next day we decided to grab a hotel in Woodstock and catch a few WFF flicks that night. The other reviewer (who is obviously associated with promotion of the film since it is their only activity on IMDB) says the audience went form crying to laughing. That is an outright lie. The only sound heard was groaning. including from my daughter who is from the prime target demographic. Seriously, even 14 year old girls are aware they are being spoon fed saccharine junk if you pile on enough clichés and worn out tropes.

And 23 "ten" votes ere out of 32 votes? Really? That's shilly.

worth the watch.
skt946-149-6679219 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I like movies like these, life, friendship and preferably feel good but in this case sad. I like the dude actor i've seen him in a few movies. The only thing I couldn't buy was he looks all of 15 years old (although in reality he's 21), and he hooks up with a stewardess who obviously looks 10 years older than him. Didn't really and ever fit.

Anyway, really good movie and definitely worth the watch!

One Of The Good Ones!
Mr_Someone6 February 2019
It's a good movie definitely worth seeing. It has an interesting take on terminal illness and I think it has a nice balance between comedy and drama. I especially loved the jokes that make you wonder if it's ok to laugh at them. The performances of the two leading actors Asa Butterfield and Maisie Williams were also very very good.

A Drama Mixed with Love Story and Real-Life Harsh Moments
mvahidalizadeh18 March 2019
This is the story of a girl who is dying because of cancer from the lens of a boy. They meet in the support group. The girl has a to-do list before she dies. They boy helps her to fulfill the tasks in the list. The story is about harsh moments of real-time life. There is a romantic theme behind the story which is making the story more appealing.

By the Numbers, but Enjoyable Nonetheless
bwalkup-0261017 July 2019
The amount of cliches this movie had were too many to count. The awkward boy meets strange girl trope has been done to death at this point, not to mention the fact that one of them has cancer. Despite nearly every scene being done better before, I found the movie enjoyable and well acted.

Wow... just wow!
greg_mclellan9 June 2019
Not many movies have launched an emotional grappling hook into me, but this one did! It had me smiling for the first 3/4 of the movie, then eating ice cream with tears in it for the last 1/4 of it! I don't tear up easily, but I'm glad to see a movie out there with some substance to it nowadays!

Touching poignant story
ibnalmauser20 July 2020
Asa Butterfield and Maisie Williams deliver great performances, with superb chemistry and a poetic touch. The scenario isn't new by any means, but this is a fresh take on it, and the film positively thrums along on an upbeat note.

Made me emotional in some scenes, so deserves credit for being emotionally engaging. The soundtracks are quite well chosen and put together, and are heavily used to build the 'atmosphere' of key scenes.

Definitely a must watch if you're a fan of Asa or Maisie!

Good not great
holliemarie-h15 July 2019
It's okay. There are some really sweet moments and the premise has potential. However, I didn't enjoy Maisie Williams' performance. For me the humour felt exaggerated and forced. Asa is great as always but the American accent is distracting. Nina Dobrev also seemed out of place as a love interest.
