Main characters are so unlikeable
krisdes-8397710 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the trailer of the movie, but I agree that the actual movie felt super rushed. We didn't really get to see them fall in love. Also, Clare was very unlikeable. I'm so sick of people being in serious relationships and not talking to each other. Like she calls her best friend to come and be a buffer? She talks to everyone but her actual boyfriend about their relationship. Also, Aiden not telling her about not getting into music school was annoying. Not to mention he planned this whole night and instead of telling him how she was feeling and being honest she avoided him. Like just tell him what's happening, that was so rude. He went through so much trouble, just tell him what's going on. Disappointing movie.

Odd pacing
racheltaylor-782237 July 2022
The pacing of this movie felt off for me. When the movie started I thought I missed something because the beginning of their relationship was so rushed. It's hard to root for a relationship we only see in quick clips. This movie was pretty short so spending 10-15 extra minutes establishing the relationship for the audience probably would've helped the romance be a lot more believable. I'm not sure if it's rushed like that in the book too because I haven't read it but the title is Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between. The hello is a blip and we are missing a big chunk of that in between part.

Promising but disappointing
witra_as10 July 2022
YA romance got promising plot though could've done better with more established narrative. Fisher & Ryder are reasonably likeable, sadly they shared little chemistry to make us truly care in their own sweet moments and arguable choices.

Hard to care....
traderhman7 July 2022
Normally, when you watch a movie like this one, you are rooting for a happy ending because you grow to care about the characters. That was not this movie. The main characters are likeable enough, but there is not any chemistry and the relationship does not feel believable. In the end, you don't really care whether they stay together or not. Not a movie where you walk away feeling happy about the human perseverance of love.

Disappointing
TheRedSunset6 July 2022
It was so unbelievably boring and pointless, I almost scratched my eyes out. I kept fast-forwarding, hoping it would become more bearable but it didn't. It was like watching a 2 hour-length-you-tube commercial . There was no emotion or soul or chemistry between the characters. The general plot idea was good but the writing and the scenes- JESUS it was like it was cobbled up in two minutes (WHERE IS THE FLAVOUR OR EVEN CARE? ) The worst thing is it wasn't even enjoyably or laughably horrible, just mind-numbingly dull. This should have been a 5 minute short or something.

You could tell they wanted to make a great romance movie but it didn't work out. Very slow movie. Extremely hard to get through. The actors are very boring, the chemistry is not there, there is something that is off in the production and direction. The lead character delivers lines like shes about to fall asleep the whole time.

Watchable and sweet
jlwarmington10 July 2022
I thought it was a nice light movie, the actors had chemistry I felt interested in the story and what was going to happen. I'm surprised by the average reviews it's certainly one of the better movies on Netflix.

It just needed a bit more plot involving the supporting characters.

Just boring
livebeyond9 July 2022
I found the main characters so unengaging and unlikable I shut it off after investing roughly forty minutes in it. Aidan felt like a backdrop or a prop more than an actual person, adding little in the way of personality or presence, but Claire was worse. She felt silly to the point of taxing. I don't like movies that cost me something to watch them, and staying attuned to this movie, given how painfully nothing it was, felt like work.

Do not recommend.

not bad
shirlone11 July 2022
This was an average movie with a slow start to it but got better as it went along. The viewers that gave this a low rating didn't really understand the meaning behind this story. They ( Claire and Aidan) make a pact after they meet to break up after they graduate from high school before they went on to college. It didn't go according to Claire's plan though. The writing could have been better but overall not a bad movie. Some parts of it were boring. This movie is more geared towards the younger viewers.

boring
saberbenabdellah8 July 2022
Its just simply boring, there is absoluetly no point and no purpose for this movie, complete waste of time.

And even the lead actress felt way more boring than the movie itself, didnt feel the same way about the others, so it might be something about her that it didnt work for me.

Loved it!
jodyscott319 July 2022
Oh, I absolutely loved this movie. It was such a different take on the usual pre-college romance stories. It had such a unique, real, and tough-perspective way of approaching the relationship between the two lovebirds. The film showed some of the beautiful moments between the couple but really concentrated on the theme that they would go their separate ways prior to college. It was all about finding oneself as an individual at the same time as looking at the impact that a supportive significant other has on that path, whether they stay prominent in each other's lives or not.. Definitely worth watching this sweet and fun movie, in my opinion.

Light and romantic
cassidyblay7 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you're looking for something romantic and light to watch. This is for you. The story is kinda straightforward. The lead actors are perfect for the role and their chemistry makes it all believable. The prominent aspect of this movie is the score. We hear a variety of music throughout. Almost every scene has some music playing in the background. It's not distracting, and mostly pleasant to hear. I did enjoy watching this.

Torture!
doriennes9 July 2022
The acting, the storyline, less than mediocre. I watched this over four days, just to get through it.

Can't do more than 20 minutes at a time. Cringe worthy from start to finish.

So much potential
MoviesMadeMe12 July 2022
It's a fresh new idea for a teen romance flick which I like. Even the main actor is awesome. He's very charismatic and likable. I thought he was a Wayans at first lol. What ruined the movie for me is the pathetic female lead character. She was so unlikable and cold hearted that I was actually hoping for her demise. The ending was trash too. Pretty sure a 13 year old girl who just broke up with her imaginary friend wrote the script for this one.

The actors are unlikeable, there is no chemistry. Dialogues and scenes are too long and boring. There is no real plot. I was extremely bored to watch to the end.

Typical and not funny. Not worth the watch.
matthewljones-7567215 July 2022
This movie is typical of the writing and today's Hollywood.

The female lead knows everything and is very sure of herself. Knows exactly what she wants in life and will do anything to get it. Including, sacrificing friends and love.

The male lead character is portrayed as a fun-loving buffoon who doesn't know his true passion for music and has no idea what he wants to do in the future.

And the only true love during the movie is portrayed using two female characters.

My suggestion, skip this movie and watch any teenage movie from the '80s or 90's instead.

New Concept, fast paced and nice music.
mishra-9252918 July 2022
It is fast paced movie with new depiction of love and it's intrecacies. Music and songs used in the move are apt and beautiful. The lead female actor is good at her job while the male lead actor is little stale. Some of the scene are little streached which seems little lengthy.

Like a super boring babbling brook
Chocopeanut12 July 2022
Well, that sucked. 1,5 hour just flew out the window. I get what they tried to achieve, but it just did not work out at all. Zerooo chemistry between the lead actors. Lead actrice had actually no chemistry at all. No dept in the story, really boring. Cringing sometimes even. That's why I didn't feel any connection with the characters or storyline. It was like a slow stream, nowhere an exciting rapid or waterfall. All the cliches succinctly crammed into the film. Missed opportunity because it had potential! Ps. I liked the sidekick actors more then the leading actors!

I want to save you some time.
danaash0513 July 2022
This is a mind numbing movie. Boring OVERLY predictable plot and boring acting. Honestly Netflix please just spend your money renewing seasons for shows we need and less on stuff like this. Who was the target audience for this film? Was it the actors? Sigh. Watch this if you have absolutely nothing else to do.

What is love? Baby don't hurt me ... don't hurt me ...
kosmasp22 July 2022
No more - and no pun intended. You may know the song or the lyrics I am quoting here. Maybe not, the song is quite old now (2022), who knows if it is even on anyones radar, when you will be reading this? Whatever the case and many have made cases against the movie and against the two main actors ... I understand their reasoning - I just felt completely different.

Even those who do not like the movie, admit that there is something there ... in the story. They just feel that the actors were not up to the task (chemistry wise). You can judge for yourself. Having watched and still watching a lot of movies ... I can tell you there are many worse examples out there.

I like the premise, though it seems to set impossible parameters from the getgo ... which I guess is the point. Still I like the interplay, I like that not everything is spelled out. Although maybe still too many things are being said, that we could be guessing anyway.

Charismatic leads (imho) and a decent flow. Just do not overthink it - and remember, they are young ones ... they are open to make mistakes. No one is free or rather perfect the way they are ...

Nothing like the book
fairycloud127 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Jordan Fisher's acting is the only reason I gave this movie 5 stars. The movie did not capture any of the emotional depth that was created in the book. The should have said "loosely inspired by" instead of based on. Nothing was lining up. *Contains spoilers of the book* Claire had a mom and dad that were happily married to each other in the book (it was each of their 2nd marriages). Aiden had a heavy focus on going to UCLA for a Lacrosse scholarship that caused fights with his dad since he wanted him to go to Harvard. He actually lied about not getting in to Harvard to Claire in the book because he thought that she would no longer support his decision to go to UCLA. The relationship between Stella and Claire was strained, as well as physical altercations between Scotty and Aiden. And Scotty and Stella were romantically involved. The pact to end the relationship didn't exist, and Aiden was upfront from the beginning that he didn't want them to breakup. The list was Claire's idea. I don't know if the writers even read the book, but as you can see, there was barely any connection between the two.

Forget the movie. Forgive Talia Ryder.
diefesol15 September 2022
Ok, to be honest, I saw this movie because of Talia Ryder. Beside the fact that she is really georgous, I really liked her performance on Never Rarely Sometimes Always. I guess that in every promising actress' career, there has to be some bad apples to glorify the big ones. This is the case. The rest of the cast... sorry, but they all are forgettable.

I don't watch trailers, so I thought this one was going to be with a similar argument of All The Bright Places with Elle Fanning. You get me, that kind of young/teen drama. Not a corny one.

Hope Talia Ryder's role on the upcoming film Joika along with Diane Kruger, will be awesome. Can't wait for it.

Hello Goodbye and everything in between REVIEW
mim_nawee27 December 2022
I watch this movie because of Talia Ryder , I saw her in the Do Revenge and she's so gorgeous and really freaking beautiful!!!! I haven't read the novel yet so I'm gonna talk about the movie (only the movie not including the book!!!) The story is so boring. The way them tell us the story was like so plain. To be honest I'm not gonna rewatch this movie again. But Talia is so hot and I love her so much. Her face is like so amazing and her side profile is so perfect. Even her voice is so soft and so pleasure to listen to it. I'm gonna keep watching and looking forward her as my favorite actress. Love you Talia , I'm a big fan of your !!

The book was much better
sarahhowe-8385222 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I had high hopes for this movie, since I thought that Netflix did a great job of adapting Jennifer E. Smith's other book, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. I really enjoyed the book Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between, but this move was disappointing in comparison. While I know that changing the plot is necessary to create a movie version, too many changes were made. I did not feel the same connection to the story or these characters, since many of the charming, endearing, and funny moments from the book were removed or changed beyond recognition. The ending especially fell short compared to the book.

Goodbye? Great film that really had difficulty sticking the ending.
cgvsluis18 July 2022
This was an interesting premise and I was skeptical, but did find myself enjoying the film until it hit a real rough patch 3/4 of the way through. It's like the film had difficulty sticking the landing.

From the Ferris Beuller look-a-like, Mayor of Halloween with breakup pact origins to ...the most epic last date...this was a romantic's dream until it wasn't.

I didn't think I would like this film, but I did. The dialogue was great, the cinematography was really good and this romance between our two protagonists was so natural and organic...it really won me over!

Claire and Aiden meet at a Halloween party their senior year. Claire doesn't want a boyfriend, because her parents high school romance crashed and burned. Aiden comes up with a breakup pact that allows them to date up until they both go their separate ways to college...him to study to be a doctor and her to be a lawyer. The culmination of their relationship is supposed to be one epic date on the last day planned by Aiden. Claire's plan to go to college single...May run into a bump.

"Have a good breakup."

I know this is based on a book and I think I am inspired to read it...because my favorite part of the film was the dialogue!

The rough patch I can't really talk about, other than to say that their relationship wasn't perfect and Aiden wasn't perfect. There was a real hiccup trying to have resolution once the conflict was revealed. It left the films ending feeling rough and unfinished. For a film titled Hello, Goodbye and everything in between...they did not do a very good job with the goodbye.

This is a soft recommended for teen film fans who are romantic at heart.
