Arguably the best episode in the series
ACollegeStudent7 February 2022
Rating: 10.0

First episode was titled To you 2000 years from now. Now we're at From you 2000 years ago. This was the knot tying up years of circular writing. Multiple plot points and character motivations became clear, the origin of the entire narrative was revealed and fit into place into already existing lore. Minimal CG though the end card looked a little jarring. Rating this a 10 since the adaptation was good and the content was incredible.

PEAK. FICTION.
Qoenntrell6 February 2022
Greatest of all time. Zenith of the medium. Hallmark of media. Gold standard of storytelling. Apogee of creativity. Vertex of invention. Crest of ingenuity. Acme of imagination. Pinnacle of innovation. Epic of epics. Legend among legends. Peak Fiction.

I'm literally speechless like Ymir right now. This is definitely the BEST episode of Attack on Titan. I don't care what anyone says, there's no question about it. Eren's dream under the tree in chapter 1, his motivations in the post timeskip, the origin of the titans, the truth of this cruel world, the names of the walls, the name of the first chapter and episode, how the Attack Titan's power came to be, literally every piece of foreshadowing from the first episode was building up to this point.

13 years ago in the manga, 9 years ago in the anime: Episode 1 "To You, 2000 Years Later"

Today: Episode 80 "From You, 2000 Years Ago"

SPEECHLESS.

Such an Exhilarating Experience!
Adam-092657 February 2022
This episode took me by surprise, thrilling isn't even the least of words i would use. A follow up to last weeks episode with us already knowing the sudden complicated relationship between Eren and Zeke suddenly tenfolds into complete destruction.

Ymir's past was such an emotional narrative to sit through, with hardly any words spoken by certain characters and the music intoxicating. To then back to Eren and Zeke's story unfold to absolute conclusion, destruction and emotional fantasy.

I'm not one to over exaggerate reviews but how could you not like this, it isn't just the peak of anime but the peak of TV in general. A true marvel in story telling. It's come to my confidence that this episode deserves to stay at a 10/10 but if it had to go down to a 9.9 then it would be an insult to think lower.

10/10.

PEAK FICTION
Bryan_Yeager6 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
WOW. This was the best episode in the whole entire series. These last 3 episodes have just been out of this world. How does Isayama keep doing this? I never thought we get a sadder backstory than Zeke's but here we are.... Ymir Fritz is the most tragic character in the entire show. Also congratulations Mappa this was the one of the best episodes in anime history. The last 5 minutes was the best TV I have ever seen.

Feels like i've been waiting 2000 years for this.
marveller-666 February 2022
Masterfully written & directed episode with some shocking Revelations and horrors of the past, this episode was like a Dream. Witness this, ye mighty and despair. I had literal chills when I heard T-KT ost from S3 Part 2 & the new OST, "Footsteps of Doom". This show is dominating the entertainment history and setting bar for TV. 10/10.

LITERALLY SHAKING!
and_mikkelsen6 February 2022
I am still sitting here in front of the TV 15min after the episode ended! I found that my hands were shaking without me realising! This episode was a blend of tragedy and apocalyptic epicness!! This episode will go down in history! I was very excited and it went above and beyond! Erens VA tweeted he almost lost his voice in this episode! Contains one of my, now, favorite AOT moments! I am almost not ready for whats to come!

Holy Mother of God It's Begun!
MamadNobari976 February 2022
What can I say except HOLY SHT?!

I thought at first that the episode is moving the plot forward very slowly but Jesus Christ I didn't expect that ending! Lots of stuff and revelations happened in this episode.

So first of all let me praise the music once more and say I really appreciate this show's composers and what they've done and are doing so much. It's great to hear T-KT again, or rather a new rendition of it.

I gotta say, I didn't know just how much a tragic character Ymir is and how much of a POS King Fritz is.

It's really nice to finally see how it all started and why Ymir behaves the way she does and it's a really sad backstory.

But that ending though! Eren is absolutely a beast right now! I didn't expect them to that this soon.

Absolutely mind-blowing ending to a great episode, I can not wait for the next episode.

"You're not a slave, or a god. You're just a person"
thefoochie6 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The moment we've all been waiting for has happened. The rumbling. And man was it incredible. But first I'll talk about how well they handled Ymir's backstory.

What I love about the flashback was how it was able to portray ymir as the victim. For the whole series we have heard of ymir as being this evil, omnipotent being who wanted to oppress the marleyans and destroy the world. The reality is that she's just a scared, abused girl who is being used by king fritz. That guy is evil, man. He didn't even thank her for saving his life and taking a spear for him! It's very clear that the king does not love her, and is only using her to having children and secure the power of the Titans.

The scene in the paths was so much more emotional now that we have seen Ymir's past. The line "you're not a slave, you're just a person" really hit hard, because ymir has been a slave for her whole life, serving other people, until now, after 2000 years, someone has finally seen her as a real human being. I think that's why she let eren use her power, because eren, unlike king fritz, didn't just want to use her to achieve his own selfish goals. No, eren was actually able to connect with her, and that's why he was able to activate the rumbling.

Lastly, eren's speech at the end gave me chills. I like that the series isn't shying away from portraying eren as a villain. And poor, naive armin, he actually thinks he and eren share the same goals. Armin wants peace, but eren wants destruction.

Right now this episode has a perfect 10 on IMDb, and let's hope it stays that way. I don't think there will be an episode of television this incredible in at least 2000 years from now ;)

Perfect Episode
BadgerStorm43456 February 2022
This is one of the best episodes of the series, if not the best. I've been saying this for the last 3 weeks about every new episode though. Attack on Titan is a masterpiece and this episode reveals the plan of its best character in an extremely satisfying way. The backstory was also handled extremely well. Music, animation and voice acting are all stellar, as is the plot.

An EXPLOSIVE episode.
BoydudeReviews7 February 2022
OMG! As a manga reader, this episode exceeded my expectations. The gritty art, some insane animation sequences and the titan animation and designs are the best of the Final Season so far. The flashback scenes were so intense and emotional to watch. MAPPA went above and beyond with the visuals and the ost. Thank you MAPPA :)

Peak of Anime
abdiluqman-475937 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is the peak of storytelling, it does not get any better than this, We get to see the story of ymir the founder. Eren gets control of the founding titan and those last minutes when the horde of titan appear from the walls and march is really amazing. Erens speech to the Eldians at the end was the summon for war. The end is upon us and we are in for a ride.

My vote is 10 .

I have spoken.

Not this Ep, but all of this series is amazing. Who cares about haters, this episode is perfect. I'm so excited. In what series you can find flashbacks like this?

I can't wait for the next episode. It's a week but it's like 2000 years.

something doesnt click
Joey_w710 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This girl, Yimir has been doing her job for 2000 years and all of a sudden eren comes along telling her it's time for change and barely even elaborates and she's like say no moee, no hesitation, no shred of doubt, she gives him full power and control after summoning a...a flying centipede(?) to resurrect him. It just feels like the show went off leash for a few minutes before being held back in control.

Not that impressive as I expected
jdbreaker9 February 2022
For me didn't have a climax as I expected. The animation was kind of poor for me and the ost behind wasn't memorable as other scenes like, Levi vs zeke,Eren discovering Reiner as a traitor... etc. I really miss the old snk.

I feel bad for haters
mohammadpghazi6 February 2022
I just feel so bad for anime or AOT haters. They CHOOSE to hate something so spectacular and it's just sad. This was probably the best episode I've ever watched. It's so hard to top your work even once, but AOT does It every week.

Just when I think it can't get any better it DOES
kinogems7 February 2022
Just flawless. Everything comes together, like pieces in a puzzle. You cannot even begin to think that far ahead before this show blows your mind away. I'm just in awe.... It's also very emotionally charged and nuanced. I will go rewatch it from season one now because I feel like a fool rn.

The most GOD-Tier and terrifying a show has ever been in TV history!!!!
saadi-424227 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Holy hell this episode was pure SPECTACLE !! And this cements AOT as the most iconic and single GREATEST show in not just anime but TV Cinematic history. Eren's voice when talking to all the Eldians was so menacing. Those ominous vocals literally made it look like the DEVIL and his army is rising from hell.

Perfectly captures the horror of seeing thousands of Colossal titans "break free" from the wall and start their heelish jogging. Its the most terrifying an anime scene can ever been.

Also, small details like Mikasa barely hearing Eren somewhat put into perspective how loud everything must have been. And all the while, Armin despite the shocking sight revelation before him, is doing his absolute best to reassure both Mikasa and himself that Eren is doing this to protect them.

And thus, the episode ends... on the face of the true DEVIL OF ALL EARTH: Eren Jaegar.

Its safe to say this show is now part of the TV history, and will be remembered as Peak Fiction, from now and 2000 more years to come.

Powerful
joshuamathew-034387 February 2022
The uncovering of Ymir and her backstory is one of the bleakest things shown in Attack on Titan; it answers a lot of questions that I never even thought about in such an interesting way, never relying on an exposition dump.

Bringing a show with such momentum to a satisfying conclusion is a monumental task and I'm eager to see what will happen.

It's finally begun
DjDarkrai106 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was even better than the last episode, and everything so far has been leading up to this. The rumbling arch has finally begun and i don't even have words to describe how perfect that final sequence was. This is about to get crazy.

Never ending peak!
Near-L7 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Fantastic story telling and i love the art style from the past by not really adding the eyes. You have the feeling all these people are gone for so long and already faded and they also live in darker times. I finally understood the drawings in that creepy outro from season 2, i already suspected the blondes eating that food had something off about it. The details after the rumbling starts are also amazing... Mikasa not being able to hear Armin, the screen shaking at all times. I don't even consider this an anime, i think of it as great television. Each episode tops the other... Will this show peak forever? Brilliant!

WHAT A GRAND EPISODE OF EPIC PROPORTIONS!
evgenycaruana6 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really loved the intro of this episode where you get an inside knowledge of how Ymir became a slave to King Fritz and how the walls were built. The episode left me speechless and in awe to the grand scale of events that unfold! THE RUMBLING HAS STARTED!! Eren has won apparently as he takes Ymir's gargantuan Titan form. The question remains however, is Eren really a bad guy now? He is going to destroy the world as it seems. Armin seems to think that he will just destroy the Marley base. With that many Colossal Titans I think it is safe to say that Eren plans to eradicate all those who are not subjects of Ymir. I CANNOT WAIT THIS LONG FOR EPISODE 22!!

Magical episode.
BerryDingle18 May 2022
Ranks up there with Westworld's Kiksuya as one of the great examples of story telling on the "small screen" for me.

Succeeds in creating a similar "magical realism" as well. The culmination of so many great parts that somehow came together to produce something even greater.

The music/score was also absolutely perfect.

The moment we see the flashbacks the mood created by the score is nothing short of magical as you find yourself in awe as you realize the amount of creativity, genius, and artistry that went into the conception of this story from day 1, how the small and seemingly minor details from season 1 were meaningful parts of a grand vision, and how the story has come full circle to the very first episode fittingly titled "To You, in 2000 Years."

Very normal episode
njwan-730886 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
AOT wasted my time with 17 minutes of an unnecessary story but at the end it was an amazing 3 minutes but that doesn't change the fact that this episode could've been made in 5 minutes clip but they wants to make it lame just to make you excited at the last and wait another week . Very cheap trick.

One of the Greatest Episodes of Any Show, Ever
kld-8957510 March 2022
The title says it all, and I can assure you it's not hyperbole.

Sorrow. Fear. Anger. Awe. Shock. Horror. Those are just a handful of the emotions this visual masterpiece elicits through sensational storytelling and character development.

Few episodes of any show reach these heights. The Game of Thrones Season 6 finale "The Light" and the infamous series finale to Breaking Bad are some of the only other episodes of other shows that compare.
