I'm pretty sure...
RunningFromSatan8 June 2022
...that I just watched South Park s**t on its parent company for 48 minutes straight, all the while poking fun at its viewers to continually show up for any content they put out, no matter what service it's on. South Park on Comedy Central is not enough...how about Paramount+ , who is personified by the not-so-subtle "Pi Pi". Most South Park is completely allegorical at this point, which hits or misses. This was a semi-hit with me, the best part is biting the hand that feeds and it just giving them more and more. This was purposefully a sub-par episode - err, "special" - that proves its own point.

I don't mean to be rude or do I?
erikmfrazier29 June 2022
I know that the last few seasons have been panned by audiences and critics, everyone loves South Park for their own reasons whether it be nostalgia, great jokes, toilet humor, whatever..

For me I have enjoyed the direction the show has gone and I'll try to help explain why it is better (with the exception of a few episodes). Although I was the first to be extremely upset in the constant reduction in episodes the quality of the content has gone up. They are able to connect the story over multiple episodes which has jokes references hitting twice. I suppose if you didn't like the first joke it won't hit hard a second time but it seems to me that half of the viewers do not understand the satire behind the jokes made. I understand the joke itself may not be a knock out with every viewer as people have become more sensitive about certain topics, do not care for toilet humor, or it went over their head, but believe me, the writing is still as solid as it ever was if not better. There are fundamentally multiple levels of storytelling here in streaming wars- first I appreciate the connections that go back to the last season that were comical for me and they worked here too. Second streaming wars is relevant with the entertainment industry's constant struggle with retaining and paying talent, becoming a monopoly, etc etc. Third, have you all not seen the actual "streaming wars" in the American west? Africa? General shortage of water? The reviews that I have been reading about how people aren't laughing anymore, I promise that half of you aren't laughing because you don't understand the joke references. The other half may be offended or just got tired of the story. Randy's Tegridy weed antics have about run it's course, but I appreciate that Towlie is now a recurring character, so win some lose some. The episodes that he is the prominent character I rewatch less of, but I still enjoy them. Don't give up on this series, if the jokes or the story isn't landing, try to see what they are referencing behind the reference. There is a reason Family Guy has never won an Emmy and South Park has a vault full. It's not for everyone but there is quality writing.

On par with any of the Paramount specials so far.
tcamyuntoldartist27 June 2022
I'm getting the feeling that they don't really have the infinite freedom with these Paramount+ productions to select whatever music they want to insert anywhere. That would explain some of the choices, especially the now infamous 'rapper chic going on about her puss for minutes' bit.

Otherwise i don't get the unified negativeness towards this, i was fooled into the belief that i'm not gonna smile or laugh even once, and there i am, adequately entertained, even if it is more on the clever satire side than the laugh out loud side of things.

I have no idea if South Park Studios has returned to their regular ways, or if this was done in that from-home style, but either way, the art direction was way more consistent and simply South Park, than the virus movies, which were just all over the place, possibly from the hectic working conditions. Apart from strange 1:1 inserts of the diorama style series intro as establishing shots for the town which felt out of place, it was all done right.

You could say too much Randy, but i didn't see any Randy, but this new Karen guy looks promising. Jokes aside, the boys got a good amount of scenes, nothing to nag there.

Just overall it's kinda obvious that the guys REALLY got accustomed to the 20 minutes structure, and these specials are essentially 20 minutes worth of stuff stretched to 40. That might make some people uncomfortable a bit, but it is nothing to throw 1/10's at these, that's just rude.

Great. But one moment was HORRIBLE
Veit2475 June 2022
The moment when Cardi B's "Wap" was played I had to mute it, What in the world were Trey Parker and Matt Stone thinking? It was inappropriate for the scene and nothing related to what was going on, even back in the South Park day all they had to do was play groovy music in this one scene where Butters meet pimps! But now we have this instead? What a joke. Other than that, I really enjoyed this and laughed mostly, one thing to add that no other reviewer said is that the quality of the production into this is AMAZING, the details and hard work that goes into the scenes is superb, shame that only 3 stars had to be cut out BECAUSE OF ONE CANCEROUS MOMENT.

I live in a hotdog
inacan-90-8942612 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
String first half but kinda towards the end didn't finish as good. The songs were strong as always and having Randy being called Karen is worth it's wait in gold. The plot is so so, it seems like a stretch to connect the streams to streaming wars but I'm sure the next film will help solidify.

Actually a pretty smart episode/movie
Amthermandes9 December 2022
I know a lot of people found it dull, uncreative, repetitive, and too dependent on current trends in society and pop culture. But I disagree for the most part. They successfully found a fun way to bring elements from many previous episodes, and merge them together with a mockery of modern day streaming services as the glue. They make a lot of great critical points about streaming services in fun, hilarious ways. Like how anybody can "sell content" for streaming services, how quickly they get canceled, and how the content can be garbage and yet people will still pay for it. And don't forget how competitive the streaming business has become in such a short period of time.

On top of all that, you have the usual antics from Cartman, driven by his greedy, incessant need for attention and material gain. And the boys are the focal point of one of the three main story arcs of course that play a part in the mockery of streaming services. And the story of Tegridy Weed continues. And yes, I do agree, South Park should be all about the boys and not so much about Randy and his farm, but I don't feel like he really hogs the limelight.

And to those complaining about it being oversaturated with parodies and references to current news, where have you been the last 10 seasons? That's basically what they do now, and have been doing for some time.

Overall it's pretty funny, not the best, but when you take a step back to see what the creators are doing, it certainly becomes an episode worthy of watching. On a streaming service of course.

The Weakest Special So Far
vmqfqqw2 June 2022
It's not South Park's best and it's the weakest of the television specials, so far. Cartman is usually a highlight of the show, but the subplot of him and his mom wasn't really interesting or even funny to watch. The comments on streaming services are funny and the special's way of portraying that is clever. I personally just didn't find it super funny, but still enjoyed it! If you're a fan of South Park, it's definitely worth the Paramount+ free trial.

Every corner of this episode is filled with deep sadness
muyao-449052 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This special edition of South Park has outdone itself compares to the covid pandemic special. The emotion depth it goes to between Eric and his mom hasn't never been this real, it made Eric truthfully wanting her mom to get fake tits truly bites when you laugh about it. It's also absolutely hilarious to also see South Park mock themselves, to see randy scold Stan that he shouldn't work for another screaming services, and name Paramount Pi Pi and said what's inside is half water and half pee. Manberpig is real guys, it will come take vengeance on your kids who is currently creating quality content for these steaming services to monetize on.

Didn't need to be a movie
ericstevenson7 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really don't see why this has the label of "movie" when it's really just another special. I mean, it's the same length as the other specials. I was so used to "South Park" going back to regular episodes, this came off guard to me. This er, "movie" featured the characters dealing with the drought caused by Manbearpig. I like seeing him more. It was just annoying how he didn't appear until near the end.

It was interesting to see some characters return like Pi Pi. I was hoping this would be about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock! At least it was funny to see Butters acting so nuts. The previous movies were just so much more interesting. This didn't have the feeling of something epic like those films did. It was still entertaining to see where the plot went.

I love South Park but...
miss_toucan4 June 2022
I just didn't love this. I'm not sure why it needed to be a special instead of just an episode.

Frankly, I'm sick of Tegridy Farms. I'm actually kind of sick of Randy being such a prominent character. I miss Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny being the main characters. That's what the whole show was. And I like Randy, but there's nothing new being presented to the viewer. Just more of the same old stuff.

This just didn't have many laughs at all.

I was so excited to see it, but was disappointed.

Great start
Cartmanology1 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First of all its another 2 parter.

It starts slow, and gets a while to get good. Sure there is some funny lines here and there, the Karen joke is fine, just fine. However when the plot gets going, its funny but also more then that its satirical but also a great storyline, one of Parkers underrated talents is storytelling! I want a part 2, just to see what could happen next! The fate of Cartmans fake tits,Pi Pis waterpark, Tolkiens dad and Stan! But aside from that its classic South Park. Just wish it got there faster.

This one was decent.

Actually fun as opposed to the weird Covid ones. Classic South Park stuff and characters. I had some decent laughs. Great music and animation. Clever analogy with the name and all.

Tired of Randy, Weed, and ManBearPig
CopperLion2 June 2022
Yes, South Park has always been satiric. Fine. But the focus over the last few seasons has shifted from the core of Kenny, Stan, Kyle, and Cartman (and Butters) to Randy, Tegridy Farms, PC Principal, blah...blah...blah. I like good satire, but they have drained the storylines for all they are worth. Remember Jared beating a dead horse in Season 6? We are now at that point. Shift the focus back to the kids. Please....

a step in the right direction
talllwoood1328 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The last season and all the specials since the lockdowns began were trash, unwatchable trash that 10 years ago I feel Matt and Trey would never have sent the network and it's hard to point fingers who truly was at fault as South Park seemed to have lost its edge those years. Well. This was a surprise. I went in expecting to hate it as a friend came over and I didn't know what else to put on. This is coming from someone who has watched South Park since 1999 or so.

The plot has some creativity and it's taking shots at the overabundance of streaming websites there is now and although I felt Manbearpig was under used there were memorable scenes with all the shills promoting crypto currency which I laughed my head off at. Though I would have loved if Steven Seagal was also in it as he was one of the few who promoted a type that didn't get used and everyone loves the South Park special with him besides that with Cartman what happens to him is something I'll remember for years to come. If Paramount Plus is the reason these were good letting them have their "Wet dream" about steaming I'd say leave Comedy Network behind. As they say. Go woke, go broke!

Slow but FUN!
lc_svendsen6 June 2022
Streaming Wars is not a movie, its a long episode.

The first half wont get you smiling, its slow and boring but after the first half the episode kicks off and will keep you laughing and smiling to the end.

A strong 7.

One of the Best Movies I've seen in a while
twh-002862 June 2022
It is nuanced, yet "right in your face" and South Park does not let down on this one.

It covers a lot of the issues of 2022 in a satirical and comedic way, making more than one point while keeping the old characters dynamic and fresh.

Shame more movies today cannot do this.

Solid Start, but messy and weak ending
SnowThatBlows2 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This special isn't bad in any way, but I feel as if it's the most inconsistent and narratively boring out of the rest of the other specials. It's just not as entertaining or conceptually as grabbing as the previous, but that doesn't make it bad whatsoever.

The first half of the special is definitely its highlight. Cartman signing, Randy being called a Karen, etc are some of my favorite moments from the special; but the rest falls flat. The manbearpig plot is so overdone it's really repetitive. They don't really do anything special with him other than giving him another cameo in the special and killing off the commissioner.

I liked the streaming war and the social commentary they were going for. It was a bit on the nose but it was still pretty sharp. I wasn't a big fan of the scene with Steve climbing the mountain and finding rental dealers being attacked. It was alright, nothing too funny but nothing intolerable

All in all, this special was pretty average with some good highs and mediocre lows. It doesn't really stand out that much; and it would be overlooked as a dud if it was a episode on the show if i'm being honest. Still enjoyed it.

Trey is bae in comedy
altdefty1 June 2022
Topical, relevant, allagorical "content" such as this is rare and endangered. Do yourself a favour and "consume", "share", "like", and "subscribe", to south park's lastest product on paramount plus.

Its pretty coo.

Seriously?
noawareness3 June 2022
People giving this 10/10? A perfecr score?

I've been a fan since the first episode aired and I watch everything these guys make and I will continue to support them any way I can but this was terrible. The news doesn't equal good ideas and just because something is current news, that doesn't mean you don't have to tell creative stories. At best, this is weak satire. At worst, it's terrible pop culture leeching.

I'm sorry but this isn't good and feels like south park is going through the motions.

Great Episode
tomshep-2573317 June 2022
South Park continuously challenges the status quo through satire. The issues in this episode are brought up in a way that are unique and funny. The paralleling of a serious issue like climate change and the frivolous issue of the amount of streaming services is genius. It really creates a plot line that highlights today's serious issues while adding a layer of playful humor.

Anyone rating this episode poorly just doesn't understand the humor or societal situation which ironically also makes South Park still one of the best shows in TV history. Haters are just ignorant.

Probably the most tired writing I've ever seen
brandonhuggins6 June 2022
South Park is one of my all time favorite shows, and given the decline in quality over the last few seasons, I thought the specials brought a breath of fresh air and was very excited to see more were coming. But this special just felt like they had no idea what to do. They had no idea what to say.

They even attempt to make a joke about the declining quality of their content but it's done nowhere near as good as the meta humor I know these writers are capable of.

Fans of South Park know what these writers can do. We know how amazing they can make stories feel in this silly ridiculous world, which is why it's so disappointing to watch what feels like something these creators really didn't want to make.

No theme song ?
Loved this, I think it was super cool and funny, I don't why people are posting bad reviews but I think it was awesome. Just the theme song of south park was missing, loved the funny scenes between Eric and his mom.... I hope Eric looks the same in the next one too just like he did in the end of this. Recommended!

South Park is finally back after a short 6 episode season 25, I'm not going to say anything so watch it yourself. South Park has ALWAYS been a satire, even season 1 had some satirical episodes.

A metaphor about the streaming competition
Elvis-Del-Valle18 March 2023
The film is not exactly about the rivalry between the streaming platforms, but more about a fight for dominance over streams of water used as a metaphor for the competition of the platforms. In that respect, the title is misleading, since it has a double meaning. It's not bad, but it feels like another episode of South Park. The fearsome Man Bear Pig returns as an antagonist, he also takes up Pipi's water park and Cartman's mom learned to be more responsible and not give in to Cartman's whims. Season 25 was not very satisfying for everyone, but this movie improves the situation a bit with a more interesting plot. My rating for this movie is 9/10.
