All good Chinese film
skiba-1767325 December 2021
All good Chinese film. May more dramas than the catastrophic themes, but the total resources. It's already officially on CDA premium. I recommend. Vvvvvvv.

A well-regulated and qualified work
g-8962231 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The life-oriented Chinese-style rescue has not brought shock to the production. At first glance, it is a bad special effect that looks fake and covets big scenes. It is an inevitable criticism to be unrestrained and illogical. It is nothing to promote personal heroism, but at least it has to be reasonably arranged based on the reality. There is no protective measure to climb by hand in the rainstorm, ignoring Newton's law to jump the helicopter, the father and son are portrayed to be abused and abused, and the disaster special effects and blasting scenes are full of cheap feeling.

It's a catastrophe
kosmasp15 August 2023
No pun intended - the 70s called and they want their genre back ... well they called on a landline and no one picked up so ... I reckon that is why we get this and other movies. All kidding aside, if you like movies that have the disaster theme ... well you could do worse than this one right here.

It does look really good, CGI works fine, the tone and the pacing is quite good too. I didn't check if this is based on a true story, but even if not, it is likely to have been inspired by a lot of things that actually happened ... of course you do not wish anyone to find him or herself in a situtaion like this ... if this is your cup of tea, you will like it .. if not, you probably should not watch it in the first place.

Terrible movie
bsblbasketball3 November 2021
Very poor, felt like I just wasted 2 hours of life that I can not get back.

Mission impossible type of film portrayed by the main character but story line was terrible, story and their actions are way too over.

Not recommended!!

So many fake reviews on this movie
DanielStephens19883 December 2022
I'm not sure if I dislike the film or the reviews for this film more. Chinas filming industry is trying too hard to catch up with the west in visuals and Oscar worthy films. It comes across shallow and unconventional in its screenplay.

The film doesn't hold itself and it doesn't understand why the film was made in the first place. It was only shot to test viewers where cinema is in China and to destroy America. China is sucking the tit out of democracy and its bleeding for approval with It's nationalism. Nationalism is what makes this film terrible to watch.

I find China cinema terrible and not grounded in though provoking ideas. China is only doing it to catch up!!!!

Mother Nature is very angry!
paulclaassen5 September 2022
Yizhou (Yilong Zhu) and his girlfriend Xiaojin (Junyan Jiao) are building contractors and working on a mountain tunnel. Yizhou's Dad, Yungbing (Zhizhong Huang) - a retired rescue worker - comes to visit. Shortly after Xiaojin fetches Yungbing from the bus station, the shifting of a tectonic plate causes a giant sinkhole in town - swallowing the bus he had just been on.

The quake was caused by work on the tunnel - now already 10 years in the making - and the surrounding mountains are now in danger of collapsing. The disaster scenes are incredibly well done, and the chaos and mayhem are reminiscent of 70's disaster movies. The film is in the vein of the recent Mandarin disaster movies 'Skyfire' and 'The Bravest'.

'Cloudy Mountain' is fast-paced and exciting, with suspense around every corner. Apart from the disaster element, the film is also a survival story. I enjoyed the characters. With no annoying or arrogant characters you generally find in these genre movies, I rooted for everyone. (I must confess, almost until the finale I wasn't sure whether Ding (Shu Chen) was a protagonist or antagonist).

I love disasters movies and 'Cloudy Mountain' is a great addition to the genre. The third act did loose some momentum, but it was nevertheless still thrilling, with a satisfying ending. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Please don't watch this movie
airdodolook10 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Please stop bragging about this movie! Can the screenwriter not rely on imagination to make things up? After watching this movie, I thought it was written by two screenwriters. The first screenwriter was cleverly conceived, but couldn't finish editing for 120 minutes. Later, another three-legged cat screenwriter was found to make up for 120 minutes! Stop joking, okay! ? It is really unpleasant to spend money to watch this movie. It's better to condense it into 70 minutes!

A realistic action-packed natural disaster movie worth watching
Lisa-Watters31 January 2024
This was a decent natural disaster movie which felt realistic in most regards. The movie was nothing amazing but it was worth watching. The story, acting, and special effects were average.

Conversations were realistic rather than clever or dramatic. Honestly I wish more movies would have realistic dialogue like this and characters which react in a realistic way.

I definitely enjoyed the action... explosions, landslides, flooding, car crashes, rock climbing, cave escaping, I never lost interest in the movie.

The movie was low on my propaganda meter, it was there, but didn't play a major role or diminish the quality of the movie, except for a single cheesy death near the end. There's nothing wrong with honoring a country's construction workers, or implying that you should follow official instructions when evacuating a city.

Too many nationalistic reviewers
guymelef-0867125 January 2024
Don't believe a lot of the reviews of MANY Chinese movies on here which are over inflated as great. I loved Infernal Affairs and some other Chinese films but see all too often Chinese reviewers boasting about every film released from China. I can only recommend this if you have nothing else to watch and want to see a disaster movie like was, but if you want to see a good disaster movie I recommend The Tower and The Tunnel from Korea or The Quake and Wave from Norway. The Korean series Bargain is also good but it's more than just about the disaster which these other films have in common. I gave this three stars for FX that are hit or miss at times and the way it was shot. I didn't care for any of the characters cause we had little or no background on them unlike these other films. Some things were over the top as some have said, but to be fair, what disaster film isn't. Very formulaic and cliche ridden.

Wasted Opportunity
hexedd30 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie started off great and had some nice, intense scenes, but by the end I was literally laughing at some of the stuff the director was expecting the audience to believe. Near the end, they have the main character and his senior citizen father free climbing a sheer rock wall in the pouring rain with just shoes. Then, a little while later, they have the main character run and jump off a cliff towards a helicopter and grab onto the landing gear in mid air, again in the pouring rain. Then there are also the usual tropes like characters falling off a cliff and holding on by just their fingers; the whole medley of action movie tropes is on display.

This movie was a wasted opportunity because part of the backdrop of the story is the railway soldiers who played a very important role in China's history. They could've had this movie be more realistic and less like a Mission: Impossible film, and it still would've been good, but instead they fell into some cheap and silly action movie type of scenes that turned it from a serious film into a comedy. In the end it feels less like a tribute to the railway soldiers' history and just an attempt to use that history for a cheap disaster film. The actors all did a good job with what they had, but the filmmakers obviously wanted it to be more of a blockbuster action film and that took away from the seriousness of it all. The title should be Mission: Impossible, Flooded Tunnel in China.

I like Chinese cinema so was very disappointed with how this turned out.

A must see disaster-action movie: brilliant acting, great visual & nonstop thrill
GinaDRX24 September 2021
The movie starts off with natural disasters that put lives of 160,000 people in danger. The thrills kick in within the first few minutes, and keep the audience at the edges of their seats throughout. It is fast paced with great acting, amazing special effects and a touching story line.

The acting is brilliant. The characters are convincing and the cast have developed the story to the fullest. Yilong Zhu, the leading man, plays Hong, an engineer who stands up for his home and country, risking his own life. Mr. Zhu immerses himself into the character, with powerful and touching delivery. He takes on a journey when an ordinary man becomes a hero, faced with life and death, conflicts of sacrificing loved ones or his mission, at the same time overcoming his own weakness. Beside character development, there are loads of jaw dropping action scenes (just to name one, rock climbing at pro level) that you don't want to miss any ... I assure you Mr. Yilong Zhu's acting is the one of finest.

The visual is spectacular. The movie is filmed at famous scenic areas in Guizhou, with beautiful caves, mountains, canyons, streams... Meanwhile earthquake, landslides, mudslides, along side with breath taking landscape and impressive sound effects, will keep your eyes open the whole time.

The story is moving. A father and his son, a leader and her people, a teacher/guardian and her students, and of course a man and the woman he loves. There are places where viewers break into tears, yet plenty of funny moments. Humanity shines amid this natural disaster, which will make you cry and smile at the same time.

All in all, Feng Bao (aka Cloudy Mountain) is entertaining, intense and thrilling. This is a must see and thumbs up!

10/10.

A great action thriller with heartfelt touching moments
MovieFan202124 October 2021
A natural disaster puts both a nearly complete railway tunneling project and many lives in danger. The main character Hong, an explosives engineer and the rest of the railway crew are on a rescue mission while time is running out. The movie was shot in Karst areas, capturing the spectacular views of Shuanghe Cave, one of the longest underground cave systems in the world. The technical details of explosives engineering, tunneling engineering and rail engineering look authentic and convincing. All the characters are well developed and together tell a great story. The free climbing towards the end is amazing and heartfelt, and I commend the actors for their tremendous efforts in making the scenes look legit. All in all a must see action movie in 2021.

A different kind of disaster movie
hockeyhils13 October 2021
What I really liked about this movie is that compared to most it's relatively low stakes. It's not humanity vs the end of the world, it's about saving one town. It was nice to see that the only 'villain' of the story is nature. There's no evil capitalist putting money ahead of people's lives. Instead everyone comes together to do what they can to help regardless of the financial impact. It's refreshing to see when the news seems to be full of people being selfish at the moment.

The acting was fantastic, especially Zhu Yilong, Huang Zhizhong and Chen Shu.

This movie isn't going to be a life-altering experience but for the genre I found it very enjoyable.

Actions, adventure, natural disaster. This is one, you have been waiting!

Warning: Spoilers
I would say it is no doubt one of the best of this year. Considering the movie market has been quiet for a long time due to the pandemic. I can totally see this movie be the great fueling for box office rebound. The picturesque and the cinematography is marvelous. Every scene and every shot of Zhu Yilong is iconic. The emotional shifts that he was undertaken felt so real. All the actions, I could say he is no doubt the new raising action movie star of China. ZhuYilong's acting is marvelous, showing great commitment. He deserve a best actor award for his performance here and it was more than well deserved. The part where he and his father had a fight over swimming to explore an exit. At this scene, Zhu Yilong's performance of emotional intensity and honesty that is most agonizingly poignant. The visuals, direction and acting are so brilliant. I found the movie is enjoyable to watch, I give 10/10 for Zhu Yilong 's acting.

A thrilling and touching movie
angeliqu317 October 2021
I was expecting a lot of action and there was; from the very beginning to the very end it never stopped. The special effects were incredible and made you feel as if you were in the middle of the action yourself. I didn't expect to be so moved, though. All characters are very touching. Especialy Zhu Yilong, whose acting was amazing, as usual. Jiao Jun Yan was very touching as well. Zhu Yilong had a wonderful chemistry with her and Huang Zhi Zhong who played his father. The relationship between the two was beautiful. Chen Shu's character was both strong and very humane and made me root for her. I love those stories where ordinary people do extraordinary things, in particular when they risk their lives to save others.

Muscle & Brain, Thrilling & Touching. Why the low score?
GINNN_D25 October 2021
Watched the movie and shocked to see the low scores. What's going on here?? Glad that the reviews are mostly positive and accurate.

Learnt about "Railway Soldiers" (Railway troops). They are definitely muscles + brains, meaning, soldiers at same time engineers. Yizhou Hong and his father are two generations of them. They are non stoppable. Free climbing to the most extreme, diving without equipment and car racing like a roller coaster. But hey, by feeling the air they know where the outlet of a cave is and with a tablet, they analyze geometry, landslip, weather and what not. And ready to beat up a boss guy yelling at his girlfriend. Very cool.

Have to say bravo to Yilong Zhu's playing Yizhou Hong. All the physical scenes and PhD+ scholar activities aside, he honestly and heartfeltly portrayed a man, protecting and needing protection, assuring and needing assurance. Very complicated role, layer by layer, eventually, dynamic and intense character presented by solid acting.

Impressed by the special effects and touching story. Almost felt like at the scene because the vivid presentations. Brought to tears at a few moments. Not forced into, just couldn't help it. Still feeling it as of writing.

Good film. Will watch again.

A tribute to the Chinese builders and their heritage
dragonflame-8811324 October 2021
This film is made to pay tribute to the unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives on the front lines of construction and disaster relief. In the 1960s, when the Chengdu-Kunming Railway was built, China had no modern equipment and was built entirely on the strength, will, and sacrifice of railway soldiers. To this day, the martyrs' cemeteries on both sides of the railway are still visible.

Today, the world-renowned "infrastructure madman" has advanced technology and is more capable of ensuring the safety of the people and the project. Does China's infrastructure armed with all kinds of super equipment still have the inheritance of the selfless dedication and sacrifice of the railway soldiers? When disaster strikes, the answer is out.

Zhu Yilong and Huang Zhizhong played a father and son in the movie, through the storyline, they completed the transmission of the spirit of the times. Their acting brought many surprises in the rivalry scenes with each other. In particular, Zhu Yilong, who has completed many difficult action scenes, also showed a richer character charisma in the scenes with Huang Zhizhong. It is both heart-warming and affectionate, and it collides with many wonderful sparks, which makes me both excited and moved.

Overall, it is a movie worth watching.

A good movie
l-31563-5190424 October 2021
I really love this movie. The movie showed how quickly and fearless people were when they faced the disaster. Actor Yilong Zhu played the role Hong was so brave to climb on the mountain bare hand to do his job. And spirit of doing the best he could is worth learning from.

Pretty funny. I watched the movie twice because the ridiculous review said the movie has two screenwriters
aprilwny25 October 2021
The most impressive part on me is the climbing. It's the first time for me to be encouraged to do the sports. That's really cool.

I came back and read the reviews on imbd. The 1 point review looks so triggered by something I couldn't understand. He said he felt there were two screenwriters. Yeah there might be but I don't understand why he or she sounded so angry. Therefore I went to watch the movie for the second time, aiming at deciding whether I would feel the sane way or at least I might understand him or her.

The conclusion is that - sorry I didn't feel two conflicting screenwriters at all, lol, the storyline is great and smooth like A waterfall, (not two waterfalls, lol)

For once, humans are not the disaster
StabbyRat27 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ignore the low ratings from anti-fans. This is a good movie.

The plot is simple: a small town is threatened by an impending landslide, and a team of everyday heroes must rush to save its inhabitants. It's not a world shattering epic, and that works in its favour, allowing the story to be told on a human scale. The acting is superb, and the characters have more depth than might be expected of a film packed with action and explosions.

Zhu Yilong embraces his role as tough guy Hong Yizhou, displaying feats of not *quite* superhuman athleticism, while delivering an emotionally nuanced performance. Particularly moving are his scenes with the equally skilled Huang Zhizhong, who plays his father. That they so convincingly portray the depth and complexity of their relationship is impressive enough -but they manage to do it while hanging off a cliff!

Another standout is Chen Shu as Ding Yajun. While initially focused on completing the tunnel on schedule and within budget, she is no greedy industrialist willing to sacrifice human lives for profit. Although she has a justifiable emotional investment in a project that is nearing completion after ten years of work, she makes the order to blast it when that seems like the only way to save the village. Her impassioned speech to the tunnel workers shows both what that decision cost her, and her conviction that it is worth it, even if it means starting over.

This may be the first disaster film I've seen that doesn't start with expert warnings being ignored. Instead we get a group of competent professionals working together to save the villagers from a truly natural disaster. It's refreshing to see what can be accomplished when people stop fighting each other and work together towards a common goal.

Nicely made movie, touching, great acting
mysun-651371 November 2021
This was a well made movie. When I saw the movie, I thought how hard the actors and the crew must have worked filming it. I saw some of the behind the scenes and saw the two leading actors climbing the mountain with water coming down in the cold weather. I appreciate their passion and dedication.

I really enjoyed the father and son relationship and how their conflict was resolved in the course of the events. They learned how to appreciate and forgive each other and in the process forgive themselves.

I have seen multiple of Zhu Yilong's works and only one of Jiao Junyan's work before. I'm impressed with the cast overall, but it was nice seeing them again. Zhu Yilong's acting is more refined every time I see him. Good luck to him and I hope to see him again soon.

A movie that worth the time
Sharon_130725 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was made to pay tribute to the railway soldier. Through this, we saw how they actually sacrifices themselves in this peaceful era, to benefit the people.

What touches me the most was when everyone come together to help the people who were caught in danger, even if it means to sacrifice their hard work for the last 10 years (to destroy the tunnel) or to sacrifice themselves (Hong Yizhou who volunteered himself to go up Niu Guan Shan mountain to place the dynamites and Hong's father who sacrificed himself in order to help his son).

The CG effect, editing, plot and sound effect etc were really great! Scenes such as Hong Yizhou raced his car through the dropping boulders and the explosion scenes were breathe taking. In addition, not forgetting the relationship lines between Hong Yizhou and his father, and Hong Yizhou and his girlfriend. My eyes turned teary when Hong's father died and when Hong was talking to his girlfriend over the phone, thinking that it was the "final call" for both of them.

Lastly, I have to say that I enjoy watching Yilong Zhu's acting on screen. Understand that he had went for rock climbing training before he started filming this movie. From the movie, we can tell that those parts are definitely not easy but however, it was because of his dedication in work, therefore the audiences were being convinced by him.

A very big thank you to Mr Zhu for putting up such a great performance for the audiences. Look forward to his future movie.
