More D&d Video Games Could Be On The Way Thanks To Latest Atari News
Image
Atari's acquisition of Intellivision may bring back classic Dungeons & Dragons video games, like Cloudy Mountain and Treasure of Tarmin. Intellivision's ADnD games, defining the brand in 1982, could finally be widely playable. Access to classic DnD video games is historically important.

The success of Baldurs Gate 3 has been a great reminder of just how great Dungeons & Dragons games can be, but there arent as many on the modern market as one would hope. The fifth edition era of the game has been generally anemic in the realm of video game releases, a far cry from the glory days of adaptations. Although looking to DnD IP holder Hasbro might seem like the most logical choice for more DnD games, Atari might actually hold the answer thanks to some recent news.

The Atari brand has been through its fair share of owners over the years, including a stint under Hasbro...

Film Review: Shattered Earth (2021) by Li Jun
Image
Disaster movies seem to scratch a very specific itch for some people, one that requires ground-breaking earthquakes, city-sized sinkholes, and waves as high as the heavens to be satisfied. While not reaching the heights of some of the more excessive catastrophe movies out there, Li Jun’s flawed but fun “Shattered Earth”, also known as “Cloudy Mountain”, is sure to tick the boxes for disaster porn junkies.

Yizhou Hong (Yilong Zhu) is a proven mountain climber and geologist who is concerned with geological anomalies present at a railway tunnel building site. Unfortunately, he’s proven right, as a sudden shift in mountainside terrain leads to natural disasters springing up in nearby towns, with even greater destruction on the horizon. Together with his ex-railway soldier father, Yunbing Hong (Zhizhong Huang), Yizhou must use his skills to save as many people...

Trinity Cine Asia is releasing on Friday 19th of November, The Battle At Lake Changjin, the biggest worldwide box office hit of 2021, with more than $878 million in ticket sales to date, far ahead of No Time To Die, making it the second-biggest Chinese grossing film, only behind Wolf Warrior II (also released by Trinity Cine Asia). The UK will mark the first international territory release of the film outside of Asia in over 25 cities.

Billed as the most expensive Chinese film ever made, with a reported $200m budget, The Battle at Lake Changjin stars Wolf Warrior I & II and Better Days leading men Wu Jing and Jackson Yee, respectively; and is co-directed by three leading, acclaimed directors Chen Kaige (Farewell My Concubine), Tsui Hark (Once Upon a Time in China) and Dante Lam (Operation Red Sea).

James Bond Rules U.K. Box Office With $35 Million Opening Weekend
Image
The long awaited and keenly anticipated James Bond film “No Time to Die” dominated the U.K. and Ireland box office with an opening weekend collection of £25.9 million ($35.3 million), according to numbers from Comscore.

The Universal release, Daniel Craig’s swan song, benefited from near universal critical acclaim and looks set for a sustained run at the box office in the weeks to come. It opened ultra wide, across 772 locations in the U.K. alone, and surpassed the opening weekend collections of previous Bond outings “Skyfall” and “Spectre.”

After a stellar run at the top of the box office, Disney’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” collected £779,077 in second position. The film now has a cumulative total of £19.6 million after its fifth weekend.

Another Disney release, “Free Guy,” took £270,266 in third place and now has a total of £16.5 million in its eighth week of release.

In fourth place,...

China Box Office Slows to a Crawl With $25 Million Weekend
Image
China’s box office slowed to one of its lowest points of the year this week, bringing in a total of just $24.6 million over the three-day weekend, the last before the break-out of patriotic National Day holiday blockbusters arriving Sept. 30, according to data from consultancy Artisan Gateway.

That leaves China’s $5.3 billion year-to-date box office an enormous 27% lower than the $7.3 billion box office accrued by the same point in 2019.

Any competitive title releasing this past weekend would have seen its box office cannibalized by “The Battle at Changjin Lake” and “My Country, My Parents,” major government-promoted films debuting hit Thursday that will be guaranteed strong sales due to their political nature in a particularly politically symbolic year (the 100th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Communist Party).

The holiday period running through the first week of October is also an annual unofficial blackout period on foreign titles. That interval...

China Box Office: ‘Free Guy’ Slips to Second, Obscured by ‘Cloudy Mountain’
Image
“Free Guy” has retained enough charm to stay at second in China in its fourth weekend in theaters, but it slid in just a mere hair ahead of Chinese titles setting themselves up for box office success over the current Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

The 20th Century Studios film starring Ryan Reynolds grossed $4.8 million in the three days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, bringing its China cumulative so far up to $85.1 million, according to data from consultancy Artisan Gateway.

Surpassing “Free Guy” to score first this weekend was new release “Cloudy Mountain” from China Film Co. The effects-heavy disaster film grossed $19.1 million over its three-day opening. It tells the story of a father and son who try to save the residents of a small town and a newly-built tunnel threatened by natural disasters.

Chinese citizens this week worked on Saturday in order to have Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off this year...
