Decent, but features an excessively fast screenplay
mechashark9 August 2021
I enjoyed this one as it felt more like the Rick and Morty we fans have come to love. However, I can't help but notice the pacing is... well, insane. This was actually an opportunity to slow down and allow for some deeper moments featuring Rick's constant teetering on nihilism and moralism. Instead, we spend the majority of the time making everything explode in memory world and dedicate a couple of sentences to that whole premise now and then between the explosions.

That said, there's a lot of great animation in this one, and the return to familiar plot territory was-dare I say it in reboot world-a welcome one.

Hint for next season: we don't need non-stop action to be entertained or to enjoy a show. It's so over the top this season that it's hard to imagine anything is coming down the pipes that will "wow" us.

Rick and Morty's winning formula
Wilishem9 August 2021
It's what the writers know how to do best - create Looper/Inception-esque episodes with complicated memory jumping timelines and stories. Best of its kind. A pure joy to watch.

It was good, but...
BigLabia1239 August 2021
... somehow something still feels off about the show. The episode certainly comes way closer to the original R&M than the last 3 episodes. But somehow I have the impression that this episode still lacked substance.

The pace is just murderous. I really need to focus on what's going on in order to keep track of the story. Somehow Morty is not involved, at all. The episode doesn't even feature a side story containing him, nor the family. It feels as if the story and the weight to it should have been a double episode.

And still the humour just seems to be a bit too uninspired.

Ofc, many now write that this episode is a 9/10 or a 10/10 masterpiece, only because Rick is seen blasting himself through the story with some vague pseudo-science references, with and plenty references to past seasons, and everyone goes "OMG! That's a reference to another episode that I know of!!! 10/10!!!".

But in terms of R&M, I there still is something that is off....

Brilliant return to form
bdunne-335379 August 2021
I won't lie I've been pretty underwhelmed by season 5 since the decoy episode but man this was fantastic. While not the funniest the show has to offer the plot flows perfectly from one point to the next while dropping interesting bits of lore building on ricks character. Animation was also excellent as usual. Extremely refreshing after some really mediocre episodes.

Saved the best for last? We certainly think so

Loved it! So many callbacks with characters I've grown to love. My friends and I were glued to the screen pointing out everything. We even got to see kid Rick!

Amazing! Please do more episodes like these which feel like the season progresses and has a sense of continuity and story that promotes season long arcs.

More of this please.

See you when I see you

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is really no doubt about it the best episode of season 5 so far. It's something I wasn't really expecting. In this episode I thought we were going to see Rick's backstory. We did, in a way. But through bird persons memories. We still have no idea about Rick's wife Diane or the person mentioned in episode one named Kyle. But we saw rick save his best friend in the whole world. And bird person not caring anymore when he sees rick again because he's going to be busy taking care of his child. This episode was amazing. And I can't wait to see the last two episodes and what they will bring.

Pretty good episode but...

I liked this episode not just because of the continuity but because I genuinely enjoyed it. I just thought some of the humor was missing, but overall they got their stuff back together.

Finally a good episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Going back to the main plot of Rick and Morty, this episode features Rick going into the mind of Bird Person to resurrect him. It's not anything spectacular when it comes to serialization, but it ended up, for me, being one of the most enjoyable of the season thus far. Also, unlike most of the other episodes this season, the jokes of this episode actually landed for me, there were a few actual well-thought-out jokes. Not to mention this episode is definitely a peak in the visuals department. The pacing was still a bit jarring, but again it's a significant improvement to most other episodes this season.

Good but
yearegods11 August 2021
It still feels like a season 5 episode. Weirdly disconnected from their characters and humour that's a bit closer to that of the Simpsons. Not terrible, but not for me. This is spelling the end of the Rick and morty i enjoyed.

mixed feelings

Warning: Spoilers
I gave this episode an 7 strictly based off of the fact that we got Bird Person back and returned to what felt more like the good ol fashioned R&M episode style. But i couldn't help but feel unsatisfied overall by the end of it. There was a real lack of substance for an episode that could have gone much deeper and i wish they took the time to bring out some more true emotional sides rather than just zooming through times and events. I liked the episode, but i wish there was more to it.

One of the best from Season 5
adammadanat9 August 2021
This episode feels refreshing after the last few episodes of this season, with a new and exciting adventure that explores the lore of Rick. The backstory was engaging, funny and very much needed after quite a bit of filler episodes.

A Pretty High Concept Episode, with a Thrilling Revelation for Rick. This Episode Builds upon previous Characters of the show, by delivering a sorrowful Response to the show's Lore.

This episode is definitely a highlight of this season. Such a great episode that progresses the overall story while also having that Rick and morty charm to it!

Finally!

Warning: Spoilers
I don't hate this season so far. I loved the first two episodes and 3 wasn't bad, but the rest are just kind of okay. This is one of the very best in the season though. I loved all of the callbacks and seeing Rick travel through different memories and end up gaining some kind of friendship with Bird Person again. Did not expect this at all, but it was very good!

I think they should restiric their budget
yzssph-474619 August 2021
Okay this episode revealed a lot about Rick's past and ofcourse fans are going crazy and loving it....its was way better than episode 4-7 ....but how many time are we going to see big budget fight scene that rick wears an armor and starts mindlessly shooting an army ...yes it's cool but it gets repetitive and just fills the time of the episode instead of giving us a good story....this episode was just as good as season 4 final episode...

Great episode
doddtom9 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode really felt like classic rick and morty writing again.

Realy enjoyed the "memory rick" plot, I thought it was quite clever.

In this episode we explore a lot more of ricks backstory and finally some needed lore added to the show.

Hopefully the one hour finale next week ends this season on a super high note!

Calm down everyone
odestosleep20 August 2021
People are only giving it 9s and 10s because they had a good episodes after the many awful ones we got this season. It's not 10/10 worthy, 7 at the very best. There's still something very off about it especially the humor.

A decent plot for once but...
beanslegit27 September 2021
Didn't make me laugh once. Not even a chuckle. In the end ultimately pointless, much like how Rick views existence... The writers seem to think they are far smarter than they really are.

Great episode back to canon
jcorn-497937 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Amazing episode. Shows us Rick and Bird person's past. Shows their origin and their battle against the federation. The Birdperson story comes full circle and Rick saves his best friend. The episode is inception style where they're traveling through Birdpersons memories. Love seeing their friendship. Young Rick was great.

THAT'S WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR
gouldgang21 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's what we've wanted all along!! The writers really picked up the pace and did us all right with this one. Wasn't too hardi har har this is for the fans but also gave the dolls what we wanted in a smart and creative fun way. Perfect ending to hold us over for a while not to mention so smart, funny, and well constructed. Great episode that ties up some links from Rick's past without over explaining, not so convoluted to the point where you're digging through episodes from season 1 looking for small details, but giving just enough back story and lore to Rick and Bird Person's (BP's) past where you're like haha I knew that. Also BP+RS 4EVA<3.
