"Oh my gaaahhhhd Im so obsessed with your (X) right now"
rabbitmoon11 March 2022
"Oh heeey sweetie so good to see you oh my god I love what your wearing" "You toooo! Oh my god like so obsessed with that like scarf or whatever right now" "Oh thank you! So like yeah" "Like no yeah so like how are yooou?" "Yeah like good actually yeah" "Yeah so like that's really good" "Yeah, so like did you hear what X said to X the other night?" "Oh my god no, so what happened?"

Etc etc

There's something undeniably compelling about all this drivel, particularly the character Alex who has some deep insecurities manifesting in the most bitchy and drama-worthy way (the others are cringe-inducing for how they bury them in denial and delusion). But the contrivances are soon obvious, particularly when gossip from a girl who doesn't know anyone miraculously reaches another girl she has no degrees of separation with at all (except a bunch of helpful producers, keenly and obviously trying to propel the drama).

Watched worst shows
sugarbaby-1264317 March 2022
I thought the cast was pretty funny, they all had different quirks which made it interesting - the conversations wouldn't reach or delve past a certain surface which is fine and expected for reality TV- these people are models not actors after all.

Gives Hippies a Bad Name
ecrameri-4534228 March 2022
Please do not think that this is an accurate portrayal of Byron Bay. The people are friendly and accepting. It's an incredibly beautiful part of Australia.

The show is ruined by some mean girls. The storylines are bizarre and that's what keeps you entertained. The love triangle seems forced.

But ultimately, the show is really not satisfying. It's like fairy floss.... you might wonder why you started watching it and regret it afterwards.

Please do not renew this show.

Horrible, horrible, horrible!
alisonjane7310 March 2022
This show is a National embarrassment for Australia. Who exactly is it meant to be appealing to? Fake actors, fake lifestyles and fake conversations. I can literally feel the property values and tourism dollars for the region plummeting with each new episode.

These so called Byron 'local creatives' will make anyone watching the show view Byron Bay as an absolutely horrible pretentious and empty place to visit/live.

Each episode just keeps rotating around the different characters, focusing on which two have the latest gripe with each other over petty rubbish.

I really don't know what the end game is meant to be in the production of this mess. Which people at Netflix actually sat around a table and thought that this script and narrative would be a good idea??!

No wonder all the real residents of Byron Bay protested it and what a terrible time to air the show, at the exact time the region is experienced the worst floods in history and will rely on its tourism dollars to recover. Cancel this nightmare now and delete it from history.

Appallingly bad
garyablett2311 March 2022
Worst television my eyeballs have ever set themselves upon. I'm blind now. Cringy, I'm annoyed because you can't turn this s*#t off. It's so bad. It's good for a laugh though and to make yourself feel better about yourself. It's gets .5 for the laugh and .5 for the fact you feel better because you aren't one of these people #sadbaes.

Apologize to Byron bay
abeyeast15 March 2022
First off, I love a little trash reality TV, it's a guilty pleasure but this........ is just something else. You would think this was a Chris Lilley parody. I've never seen a more unlikable group of people on a reality show. Normally there's 1 girl/guy this cringey on a reality show and they're just there for occasional comic relief or to simply as a "background character" but this show is all those people. These are the type who probably bought tickets to fyre festival and ask local business for free stuff in exchange for "free advertising".

Try drinking everytime they say "vibes" and you'll be smashed by the end of episode 1. Do better Netflix.

UNFORTUNATELY NO MURDERS!
philstrachan11 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I watched to episode 4 and no murders yet. Don't bother. This is awful and actually embarrassing. I hope people overseas don't think this microcosm of Australia is typical - it's not. The rest of us find people like this highly irritating. Beautiful place but this show.... err, no.

No real "influencers", disgusting attitudes
heliajafari11 March 2022
There's nothing interesting about this show. From the beginning it all looks super fake, and almost a very poor attempt at replicating other shows including kuwkardashians.

Don't waste your time with this, and please don't make these stupid people famous on instagram.

Embarrassing
cammic16 March 2022
I ignored all the negativity around this show and watched it to make up my own mind! I could not see one genuine soul in the entire cast. They all seemed so self centered and artificial from their Botox faces, their huge filled lips, hair extensions and fake personalities. I know it's reality TV and that's what the producers want but it is sad that an entire generation is now focused on how many followers and likes they get on Facebook! I can see why the real Byron Bay community was upset. I could only Stan to watch one episode ... even that was a struggle.

Real Housewives of Beverley Hills x Home and Away, set in a paradise that most Australians love to take the piss out of? What's not to love?
kierakelly14 March 2022
Byron Baes is not an accurate depiction of Byron Bay, but what it does do, is hold up a satirical mirror to two small, yet contradictory sub-cultures that make Byron the butt of Aussie jokes: The Super rich and influencers who ultimately want the same thing- fame, wealth and beauty.

The super-rich's idea of 'spirituality' is indulgent self-worship, booze-filled parties and tearing down others while pretending to care about the planet. This is beautifully contradicted by wannabes trying to fit in, hustling to get their personal brands or product endorsements off the ground, and telling the odd tall tale.

Between Hannah vibing on dragon bones, and Simba the Sharman's traditionally-inspired outfit, complete with a Burberry scarf; or eco-entrepreneur Elle's judgement of people from the Gold Coast's plastic surgery when her facial enhancements would have made Michael Jackson blush, it's hard to choose a favourite character or moment. But with a show that is Real Housewives of Beverley Hills crossed with Home and Away, set in a paradise that most Australians love to take the piss out of, what's not to love?

Much needed basic trash
elystonhayden-1989321 March 2022
No amount of of sound healing, white linen, ripped white wash denim, beach waved hair and crystals could save this lot. But honestly can't stop watching! Doesn't really entice the viewer to holiday in Byron, has the same postcard effect as Jersey Shore and Geordie Shore. But it's an easy mindless binge with vino in hand. Had me laughing at the cast and Hannah's posh aussie put on voice lol So silly the whole thing, go for it if you are in the mood for some tacky trash influences with a slice of bogan new age spiritual rubbish.

Fake & Fake
xhellkellx10 March 2022
Don't even waste your time...not only are these 20 something year olds as plastic as they come from all the Botox they've had injected into their faces...the series is even more fake...this is the worst thing I have seen for a very long time. I lasted 15 minutes...because it was so horrible I honestly thought it was a parody show to begin with.

This show right here will make everyone in the world think of Byron bay and Australia differently. Dear Lord help Us!!! This show is so cringey and embarrassing. The cast are so fake and it just seems all scripted. Seriously we have so many issues going on in the world right now and then their is this garbage??? Useless rich people with the IQ of a door knob. The people are so judgemental calling Gold Coast trash but congratulations you have now made Byron Bay trash! Just drama drama drama gossip gossip gossip.

The only good thing was Sarah leaving Byron bay!!! And now elle and Nathan can keep banging lol. Seriously elle has tainted her reputation forever on TV nathan nothing you can say or do she's a trash can and so are you.

Boring, repetitive and nothing happens
zoeh213 March 2022
This is so terrible. I've lost all my brain cells and absolutely nothing happens. It's incredibly fake and annoying to watch with forced drama. There are terrible things happening in the world right now. These people do not have problems.

Utterly horrendous
daniel-r-goh12 March 2022
Wow. Just wow. Completely fake, staged, forced drama about absolutely nothing. The "actors'" Instagram accounts do not reflect their time on the show either. Runaway from this train wreck as fast as you can. I'm sorry for anyone that lives in Byron Bay.

sweetsoali10 March 2022
The cast say they are proud to be involved in this. HOW?

What were the producers thinking?

This is 90210 level mean girl bs. Which decade are these high school jinks in?

Embarrassing.

What happened to the last 7 years of feminism and sorority movements?
rcanobiassi16 March 2022
I'm not sure if this is only something that you can see on the show or if it actually portrays Australian culture towards feminism. But it's seriously concerning how women are put to fight over boys and absolutely trash one another on this show.

This is 2022 but it looks like a show set in 2002. So outdated in terms of respect towards and among women.

I'm sure these type of competitions between women wouldn't even air in more progressive places (maybe I'm just wrong and it doesn't reflect the actual culture, but it's still worrying that things like those are still being written).

At the same time the show is so judgmental in terms of what to do or not do on a first date, when to kiss, when to take someone home. Give me a break, set the show in the current century and let people live as they want.

Poor byron bay lol
lachlanwheels13 March 2022
Its like home and away and Love island had a tone deaf baby, whose single purpose was to make everyone hate Australians.

If you enjoy horrible acting, no plotline, cringing constantly and hating yourself for watching something - buckle up buckaroo get your popcorn.

Everything that is wrong with the world today
johnnycashconverter18 March 2022
Take an impressionable and insecure young woman and throw her into a cesspit of narcissistic pariahs so they can gaslight her and tear down every shred of self worth she has and send her home with the tail between her legs while all the other leeches get their 5 minutes of fame and.destroy the last remaining brain cells they have in coke and alcohol fuelled binges . All under the guise of faux spirituality and fire twirling

Worth the watch.

Unfair reviews
ivalencia-828716 April 2022
To be fair, the show in eight episodes showed more range in personality perspective than something like the kardashians. It seems like the critics are more enraged at the privilege the cast exudes more than anything. There should be a "how woke are you" meter when writing a review on a reality tv show.

The show is about a downtown girl, and flamboyant influencer guy, moving to the somewhat suburbs. Something like a cross between the Hamptons meets Napa wine country meets Santa Barbara.

Naturally, the gay befriends all the girls, who were quick to band into a mean girl coalition against the new girl. This has always occurred in the wild so it should not come as a surprise that this is what happened in the show.

What I really liked about the show is that the tables were turned at the end on the Regina George character. I think that the show was heavier on the romance and less about the entrepreneurial element that they were trying to convey in the beginning. But then again "baes". Otherwise it was a good binge on my books and it made me interested in learning more about the GC and Byron culture. May go visit one day!

I'm from San Francisco so the hippie vibe was straight up my ally.

I feel sorry for the real Byron Bay locals having this standard set for them. Oh and how they loved to condemn the people of the Gold Coast. A season that really didnt go anywhere with made up friendship groups. 😕
