Did they learn the script
roguegrafix15 June 2021
As a Civil War enthusiast, I was quite prepared to give this movie a go despite how bad it could be. However, after 5 minutes I had to turn it off--something I've never done before. Seriously, I have never heard a script so badly spoken like this. It looks like it was filmed on the 1st rehearsal. The make-up of the slave getting beaten in the beginning was cheap and looked fake. The whole thing looked like a high-school production. Avoid unless you're a masochist.

This rubbish of a film does not even grade as a good high school project. Horrible in every way.

Horrible
dlaughlin-900469 September 2021
I am not going to call this a movie. It looks more like an elementary school project. The only qualification for an actor is to be old fat and have a beard. The same for the actresses. Lol. I just can't believe people actually made this and spent money on it. It's awful.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a biopic of Wade Hampton III who fought in the Civil War from SC and financed much of his own army.

This is a very low budget film that uses the same group of Civil War reenactors, I believe from the Aiken-Augusta area. They use the same field to film all their battles, ignoring the fact of hills or mountains. Jezibell Anat fancies herself as an actress, which she ain't, but the best thing the film has going with frequent pauses of forgotten lines. They are making several Civil War films in an attempt to glorify the lost cause. It would help if they were entertaining.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Wooden Acting
bwucee23 August 2021
How can a movie like this appear? It has the hallmark of a school kids movie, first effort. Cant watch it! Someone spent lots of money on what would have been a reasonable storyline, but isn't. Only watch if yo have nothing else to do.

An Abomination
cotterrp18 August 2021
Just horrible. The actors might as well have been holding a script. They came across as reading anyway, and did a lousy job of that. Battle scenes were phony-2 soldiers waving swords twice, and then separating. Lousy directing. I turned it off, Why is this even on the air? Dump it, and save the "actors" from further embarrassment. Honestly, I have never seen a movie this bad.

OOOOOF
mgbxr5 November 2021
I saw the reviews and they made me laugh. "Surely, it can't be THAT bad right?" - hahaha boy was I wrong. This movie is so terrible, so utterly cringe inducing that it would be impossible for RiffTrax to even parody it - which in itself is quite an accomplishment.

I couldn't stomach more than 5 minutes. Not even in a row, I fast forwarded a bunch and it kept getting worse. I hope the actors at least enjoyed making it.

Worst movie ever made
gkhege9 April 2023
Oh my! I'm 74 and a Vietnam Combat veteran and I can tell you I've seen at least 500 movies in my lifetime. This looked and sounded terrible. Everyone seemed to be reading off cue cards. It is such a terrible effort that I can't find six hundred bad words to fill out the required characters. I see you must use 600 words even though the other reviewers only used around 50. It appears the casting director went to a local highway rest area and recruited people right off the Greyhound buses or just went to the local Mall and picked up the first group of bass fishermen they could find. This movie proves that absolutely anyone can take an IPhone and get it on Prime Video.

A Sixth Grade Civil War History Bio
zardoz-1314 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Christopher Forbes is fascinated with the 19th century, especially the American Civil War and the Old West. I will say in defense that he chose an interesting person for his bio of Wade Hampton of South Carolina. "Hampton's Legion" qualifies as a cinematic history brochure about a captivating Confederate officer who armed and clothed his soldiers. Probably my favorite part concerned the spectators at the Battle of Bull Run and the efforts of both North and South as well as medical personnel to disperse these rubberneckers. It looks like Forbes went out and filmed re-enactors and then spliced that footage into this 80-minute biography. The acting is subpar. They recite rather than deliver their lines and lack any intonation. The production values are solid, but there is no real drama that you can dig into because of its length. The amazing thing is Forbes is able to churn out these pseudo-war films and westerns. The photography is gorgeous as are the standing houses from another era. Real Civil War buffs will complain about the lack of name generals participating in battles. Meantime, Hampton deserves a better bio, but celebrating a traitor in this day and age is difficult.

The worst film could be the best entertainment.....
fwpahlke20 November 2021
Bad movie making is an art. Viewing a bad movie is also an art. This film has some nice things going for it. The color print is mostly in focus and the editor's cuts are so basic that it enhances the terrible acting as they deliver their lines of one of the worst scripts around. Put it all together and in a sick sort of way I was entertained. I hope to hell hell this director reads this review and I would love to start an acting career at my late age of 68. For this director, I will give you what you have never had. A five star review. Viewed on Amazon Prime.

Do NOT recommend this movie!!
jlanich-3783427 September 2021
This is the worst movie I have ever seen. The acting is so terrible and it looks like a little kid filmed the whole thing. Why this was published and put on shelves I don't know but it needs to be taken off. This was a waste of $10. It's not even worth a penny. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE!!! Absolutely awful!!!! I would rather watch Barney or the muppets rather then this garbage.

Unfortunately I can't give a .01 rating
briern-9299210 September 2021
The most biased, grade school performance I have ever seen. My grade school children would be ashamed themselves for such poor acting. This is the kind of stereotyping of soldiers that continues to divide our country. Please do not watch this expecting historical fiction/drama. It is merely a pile of gray compost.

A Few Notes from a Reenactor
dlookabill7 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
All of the critical comments here are right on. This is not a bad CW movie, not a bad movie, it is simply a complete waste of time.

From an historical perspective, the portrayal of Gen. Longstreet as a bald old fat man in a farby (far be it from accurate) uniform is downright offensive. And Hampton himself was an active, vibrant and courageous cavalryman; the actor playing him looks like Hampton 20 years after the war ended. And the film seems to show him spending most of his time hanging around the field hospital nurses while his "Legion" was shooting it out (not) with the Federals, who are no more interested in looking authentic than his Confederates.

The "battle" scenes were genuine in one sense - they were actual reenactments ... that looked like reenactments, not battles. Almost no one was actually firing their guns - just standing around or walking woodenly, awaiting for orders. As an artilleryman, I was appalled at what I saw on the "field".

Evidently, the writer, the director and several of the actors learned little from these reviews. In 2022, they've released another ... film - Band of Rebels. I can hardly wait.

3rd graders in a school play are better actors.
mitchellnichols-705622 January 2023
I have never spent more money on a completely worthless, pitiful movie. I can't believe this was even put on DVD. 3rd graders could do a much better job of acting and saying their lines. The director must have been blind and deaf. I bought this at Dollar Tree for $1.25. I believe the director owes me at least $1.24 back because it wasn't worth 2 cents. The DVD cover looked awesome. That's why i bought it. Never judge a book by its cover.... or a DVD. Probably the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. The actors and actresses aren't going to win any Academy Awards. They won't even win a Razzie because i don't even think the Razzies stoop this low.

Too /bad There Are Not Negative Intergers
aturfa29 August 2023
This film is so bad that I had to keep watching, if only to see how it could get worse. It did. Not only was the production itself bad, the content is equally so.

The acting is wooden at best. My high school classes could have done better. The people appearing in this production speak as though they are trying to remember their lines. They would have had problems also, since the scipt is dreadful. They look too often into the camera, as if there are signals being given.

Battle sequences are very bad; it looks like only one was made and parts serve for different engagements. Whoever portrays General Longstreet does not even look like the historical figure.

The title itself is misleading. The film is about Hamptson , some family members and comrades, and his slave "friend." More on that later. There is no representation of the Legion except for a few soldiers.

Hampton tells the slave that they are friends. That part will likely be used in certain GOP campaign commericals

The same outfit I think produced somethign about a South Carolina Revolutionary War figure that was almost as bad.

The worse acting ever
wasabnrgr13 May 2023
Wow, there was such a thing as Hampton's Legion. I thought it might be a good movie. However, they should've had me in there as an actor, that's how terrible the acting was. While accurate in certain ways because there were spectators in the opening battles, but what do you call Lazy writing, for the scrip; that would be a compliment . The battles resembled Civil War re-enactments. I'm too lazy to talk anymore but I thought I saw someone with a cell phone.😎 I never saw many fat sausage eating winosas troops. The average size of someone was about 140lbs. The script makes everyone sound very not educated when it back it was probably the most literate population in our nations history.

Reenactors having a good day but no story being told
james_ruzicka19 February 2024
Not quite sure if there was a point to this movie, or if there were any actors available to portray the leads.

The movie looked like several reenactments that I have been to but told no story.

I would like to know more about the title character and why/how he funded his army.

There were no actors to keep your attention. The whole show seems to have been completed by people who have never worked on a movie.

I would have liked to know more about the Hampton family and why they made a point to mention it in the story introduction.

If you have nothing else to do, find something else to do, rather than watch this one.

Where was the confederate states anthem
burgesswing30 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A looked like a Civil War reenactment filmed by a phone. This film did not do the Civil War Justice, nor did portray the Confederacy justice. They didn't even play the Confederate anthem Dixie. And to me, that was the worst crime committed on this flim. Because Wade Hampton made sure that Dixie was play even though he didn't like fighting for the South. He was like Robert E. Lee and couldn't raise his sword against his own state. No Gettysburg either they just talked about it. It's boaring and they changed names of historical people. Poor quality poor filming and poor script writing. And definitely poor music choice.

Warning: Spoilers
I've done Civil War reenacting. I decided in the first 10 minutes that this was a terrible movie, but I watched the rest of it to see if it could get any worse. It did not disappoint. Literally every confederate general was played by a 400 lb gray haired guy, and there wasn't a unit the size greater than a platoon in the movie.

curious to see if bad as others have said
jmullan-4475810 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Its much much much worse than i couldv'e imagined. So terrible in every way that i couldn't last beyond 40mins which seems to be much longer than others could tolerate. Look out for the historical accuracy in rebs uniform. Like the reb wearing shades at 1st bull run. Or the empty battlefield hospital lacking the franticness of the real thing. Can't actually believe the actors are actors. Just some randoms dragged from the streets with the promise of a few dollars to buy a case or two of beer. Zero emotions shown by any cast at any moment. All who are completely wooden. Swear this was just made to show how cruddy something is with a budget of $100.00.

WORST EVER
daytradermillion9 August 2022
This abysmal failure of a flick would have been better if they had just said nothing. To say it was bad is a compliment; it was the worst ever.

And with a drought in the production of period pieces, this flop didn't help the genre a lick.

Worst attempt at a War Between the States movie EVER
mqbvngth29 May 2023
If I could give this negative 10 stars I would. Absolutely the lamest, cringiest attempt at a action war movie ever. Looks like something homeschoolers made with a camcorder and clothes from Goodwill. This movie shouldnt even be on Prime. Embarrassing. Whoever wrote the script and directed it needs atomic swirlies. The drawls sounded faker then fake, battle scenes were quite unconvincing that it wasn't a backyard reenactment, and the wardrobe looked cheesy beyond comparison. And none of the hairstyles and actors looked like they fit. All of it was utter garbage. No offense to whoever produced this but you should keep your day job for now till you can do better.
