Great Movie if you understand the concept
st1919ai14 January 2022
I write this review due to the fact that I noticed that the vast majority of existing reviews is misleading.

The movie was great but in case you grasp the concept.

The movie's point is to show you an extraordinary fairytale inside the heart of the city while there are thousands of other stories happening at the same time. And these stories matter in the perspective of director.

The director successfully builds the big picture of our civilization where terrible things happen around us but we simply don't observe them. It is like everyone lives in his own micro-world without caring about others.

It is pretty normal for a lot of people to not like it as they are used to Hollywood movies .

alfiefamily, are you aware that you fell asleep after only 15 minutes?
Karamakate31 January 2022
Georgia is a hidden gem when it comes to film. What I like is that each one has their own identity rather being a national collective narrative.

Sure, this isn't the best Georgian film (which is "Namme" by Zaza Khalvashi in my opinion) but it has a quite intriguing narrative style (like breaking the 4th wall instructing the audience of how to watch the film) for a love story. And the slow pace is perfect, it's like an ode to Tbilisi.

And for alfiefamily, the curse was spelled 15 minutes in, told by the narrator. That must be a record to fall asleep so fast during a cinema screening.

A good movie, that some people here didn't understand.
strongholdgamer21 March 2022
This movie purposefully breaks every movie-making rule in the book. The plot is told by a narrator. The main characters are never really the sole focus of the camera. In fact, the main characters almost never speak on-screen. The main plot is not important. The movie's main focus is the background scenery.

That's what makes it hard to get, if you're not used to this art house kind of film.

Absolutely beautiful shots, good acting, and a bit too slow, but chill pace.

7 out of 10.

I recommend watching this, if you like art house films.

The magic and fairytale of cinema
kristina_ml15 December 2021
This was absolutely one of the best movies I saw this year. I know the town and I fell in love with it anew. All the beautiful shots, people and dogs are harmoniously whirling around in the sunny streets of the city. This is a true cinema where you are part of the experience, and music helps to elevate the feeling.

a magical reminder of simplicity and love
linistea20 August 2023
Composed as a fairy tale and happening in our times in Georgia from Eastern Europe, though not the real Georgia, but an imagined one, where people are benevolent, and dogs are important characters, and all that happens is contemplation of time, love and simplicity. And with the sadness of quiet awareness of the deterioration of environment and political landscapes. A beautiful music score and a good reminder of what art could be when is not in the capitalist discourse.

A magical movie that I will come back to, again and again. After watching the interview of the director I could see that the movie is a mirror of his very kind soul.

Bit too long to my liking
moviesknight3 February 2022
It is a kind of movie which needs your attention thats its point, we miss all the things that happens in our lives, yet something happens everytime. Calming visuals, but not happy with the choice of music doesnt fit with the aura of the movie most of the times. The things that matter we take it forgranted, and we worry about the least mattered things. Bit issue with the pacing for me, but nonetheless beautiful. It has some sense of mystery in it, did it gets solved at the end, you habe to see this movie for that.

The concept was cool, execution was god awful
extra213 October 2021
Could have cut approximately 2 hours off the final run time with the absolute nonsense fillers this film had. Seriously, people were grunting and falling asleep in the theater, myself included. I did not need all those extra scenes that in no way contributed to moving along the plot. Ending was terribly predictable too, so I was wrong for staying in my seat thinking it'll get better. It got worse and worse..

The Ghibli Vibes
kvavadzetamta13 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of Ghibli animations, and the film mad me think/feel as it was as magical and mystical as Ghibli animations are. By the way, I loved the Cafe owner's character, as he comes up with brilliant ideas how to make money.

What's more the melody through the film was quite beautiful, to be honest it made the whole film look like mystical. Also the colours and some shooting moments made me feel this way too.

Another thing worth considering, is the experience when I closed my eyes to see the changed version of Liza.

And lust bot not least, dearest city of Kutaisi, I liked it so much, showing Kutaisi with the different view.

A slow Georgian movie with deep meanings underneath
bahadrkk29 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie sounded very interesting at first, but took on an air of slow progress with almost no intriguing events. You can get bored while watching this movie. On the other hand, the acting is very good, it offers us many scenes from the Georgian city of Kutaisi, it almost takes you to this city. There are deep meanings underlying the movie, I think I can feel them partially. In my opinion, this deep meaning is; The slow and tangible life process that Georgia and the Georgian people are in. Another meaning is that there may be some meanings under the phenomena that seem incomprehensible and extremely unnecessary and/or empty, just like in this movie.

What Happened at the End?
alfiefamily4 October 2021
Sorry, I was so tired of this film after nearly 2 1/2 hours, that I left before it was over. While leaving the theatre, my companion said, " This is absolutely the worst film I've seen in the nearly 30 years that I've been coming to the NY Film Festival."

This was not a good film. It talked about a curse being put upon the leads, but it doesn't say when, or if the curse had been lifted. Or maybe that was during the part that I slept thru.

I knew I was in trouble when, after my second "nap" I woke up to see on the screen "End of Part I".

It seems that the director had a love for the town that the story is set in, as well as the people in the town. But that's not enough to hold my interest.

This was boring and a waste of time.

Example of "Tell, don´t Show"
pedroriveraromano10 January 2022
This is a trivial story so poorly told, and so boring!

They explain everything by using a narrator´s voice over, instead of images, dialogs or actions... reminds me "Glenn or Glenda" by Ed Wood Jr.

The love story? Who knows?...

Save your time
sandrozauras6 November 2021
It's been a long time since I watched this kind of bad film. I have no words how I feel after wasting two and a half hours of my life. I just feel humanly angry, because I felt robbed.

Scenery of the film is nice, but the scenario is complete disaster. The whole thing stars intriguingly, but moving every minute forward it gets worse and worse. It's very slow moving, full of fillers and images put without context to the movie.
