Beau Is Afraid (2023)
Purgatory
This movie is an attempt to catharsis, but at the same time it gives you no redemption. Aster makes you suffer and although entire experience is supposed to be comedic, mostly it is not due to the sheer amount of anxiety horror thrown at you. Finale is good but I expected more high pitched one. Phoenix is very sincere and self mocking at the same time. Also, I felt that certain topics needed to be more articulated. And despite the three hours of never ending horror, some things and big topics pass by quickly and without sufficient pondering. All in all it is a must see for every men and their mothers everywhere.
Whitney Cummings: Jokes (2022)
Good
I love her, but I think she was not physically or mentally ready for this. First of all, she was out of breath most of the time and it was not easy to watch, because I became concerned about her health. Second, I loved when she never smiled at her own jokes before and did not went too far to overexplain the joke. Other than that I though this was hilarious and clearly audience liked it too. I just wished she would talk more about her struggles regarding mental health. Also it was weird transition from her liking the old guys and then suddenly dating the younger guy. I knew she was dating younger one and at first I though she broke up with him. It was confusing.
Women Talking (2022)
Brilliant
Her movie "Take this Waltz" carried me for 10 years, this will stay with me for another decade. The force and power with which she tells the story, all the silences, music and looks are reminder how good she is as a director. And how women should always move forward and talk.
It's an adaptation of a book and based on real events, I have not read the book but I am sure she did a good job and stayed true to the material. The word -Patriarchy is never mentioned in the movie, but the obvious root of the violence and deranged arrangement of society we have is very vivid through the narration. Systemic violence is the worst, however collective solidarity can beat it and we should not forget that. Ever!
Ras vkhedavt, rodesac cas vukurebt? (2021)
The magic and fairytale of cinema
This was absolutely one of the best movies I saw this year. I know the town and I fell in love with it anew. All the beautiful shots, people and dogs are harmoniously whirling around in the sunny streets of the city. This is a true cinema where you are part of the experience, and music helps to elevate the feeling.
The Big Sick (2017)
Too many characters
You know there is a certain type of movies I like, I like Romantic Comedies, I've watched all of them, most of them to be precise. So by having that experience I should say that this movie has it all, basic and necessary characteristics. Just there is a thing that, all the characters seem incomplete, there are too much topics dragged into the narration, too many main characters, so you are constantly distracted as a viewer. There were some very beautiful moments with great acting, yes acting is exceptionally good in this movie, which you won't see in many of the romantic comedies. Basically: I liked it! could watch again.
