I really wanted to like this movie but....
Abchasi19 January 2022
It was hard. Like a lot of movies, it had potential, but didn't live up to it. Think overused Hallmark plot but with profanity, sexual content, occasional juvenile behavior, and fart jokes. (There's a good reason it's rated R. Many reasons, actually.) It did have its funny/wholesome moments but they were far and in between and mostly happened towards the end. The main characters had somewhat decent arcs and you could tell the Hannah character really did want to do better and do good by her friends. The movie wasn't exactly a failure but it could have done better.

Good entertainment...
paul_haakonsen11 September 2021
The 2021 comedy "Lady of the Manor" actually proved to be more enjoyable and entertaining than I had initially expected it to be.

The storyline told in "Lady of the Manor", as written by Christian Long and Justin Long, was actually rather enjoyable. This was the kind of story that just had a feel-good vibe to it, and it is one that puts the audience in a good mood too. So that was quite good. And it is a storyline that is easy to follow and has something to offer for audiences of all ages.

The movie does have an interesting cast ensemble, with Melanie Lynskey (playing Hannah) and Judy Greer (playing Lady Wadsworth) in the lead roles. The movie also have the likes of Justin Long, Luis Guzmán, Patrick Duffy and Ryan Phillippe on the cast list. And it should be said that the actors and actresses in the movie definitely put on good performances in bringing the character to life on the screen.

"Lady of the Manor" has a good amount of comedy to it, though it is not the type of comedy that will have you keeled over with tears streaking down your cheeks. The comedy was good and well-used to bolster the storyline.

If you enjoy a good old feel-good comedy, then "Lady of the Manor" is definitely well worth a viewing.

My rating of "Lady of the Manor" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Some good laughs mixed with some more mediocre moments.
deloudelouvain25 November 2021
Lady Of The Manor is a comedy so I expected to laugh when watching it. If I'm honest I did laugh with some scenes, quite a few ones, but the rest of the movie was sometimes a bit mediocre. I don't think Melanie Lynskey was the right person to play this role. There are some good names in the cast but I feel like there was better to do with this plot and cast. All in all the movie is worth a watch, there are funny passages and for that alone it was worth my time but it could have been better.

Wish there were minus stars

I thought this movie would be cute. It was horrible. I'm no prude but the language and sexual theme was so overdone and just ruined it for me. Also, the whole plot is something close to a Scooby Doo show. Very simple minded with lame jokes sprinkled in. Usually in a movie you like to have some sympathy or likeability to the main character but I could not for the life of me find any good qualities about her to sympathize with. Ugh.. 2 hours I'll never get back.

Go Smoke your Opium, uh.. I mean Weed and Watch this Silly Movie! :D
midnitepantera11 September 2021
This movie was a VERY SILLY and Goofy story, but I love Melanie, Judy, Justin and all the rest of this cast together. They are just Silly Fun together and seems like they probably had a great time working on this movie.

Judy did slip out of her Southern accent quite a bit, but I didn't care, she was adorable. And Melanie was just hilarious as a slacker trying to learn to be a lady. :D Is it Oscar worthy? NO! Is it for young kids? NO! (Has a lot of F-bombs) But is it stupid funny and worth a watch? Yes, if you like silly comedies. And/or are a fan of Melanie, Judy or Justin. :)

Rachel Ray a million laughs
lrkays20 September 2021
Rented because Rachel Ray said she laughed a million times....must of been every time they said a four letter word....if you like four letter words to make a movie then this is for you...other than that a waste of time.

Comedy works in parts. Melanie Lynskey is awesome.
mnagaditya13 September 2021
I can't say that I didn't enjoy the movie. Premise of a household ghost only visible to one person and trains her to be "My Fair Lady" makes a good premise for eliciting laughter if done right. But this movie feels as if it is made for TV. Melanie Lynskey is awesome. She fills life to this otherwise normal movie. And Judy Greer did her part. Not that this movie is bad, but could've done better.

Anyways I had fun watching it.

Is the movie lame? Yes.

Did I enjoy the movie? Doubtfully yes. You can enjoy it as well if you can go through the first 20-25 mins of nonsense.

Do I recommend it? Yes, you might enjoy in parts.

Simply AWFUL.
itmeansflower18 January 2022
I wanted to like it, the premise & cast were promising. I held on for a painful half hour but after that, I couldn't take it anymore! Not worth one more second of my time, and not worth one of yours either. Just so SO bad.

Entertaining farce, the ghost just won't go away.
TxMike4 January 2022
My wife and I settled in to watch this movie, written by Justin Long and his brother Christian, on Amazon streaming movies. It is clear why this is available so soon on streaming. But after a rocky start it develops into a funny, entertaining farce. No one would term this a "great" movie but if the explicit foul language here and there doesn't bother you then it is a fun romp.

Slacker lady is not a drug dealer, she just makes deliveries after someone else deals. But she isn't even good at that and gets busted when delivering, on bicycle, to the wrong address. But she gets an unexpected opportunity, to work as a guide through a historical home in Savannah (filmed in Florida). To her surprise the real Lady of the manor comes to her as a ghost from the 1800s.

We should have rebuffed this movie, we should have turned it off after about 20 or 25 minutes. But we didn't and laughed often. Just a fluff of an entertaining farce. The outtakes shown as part of the end credits are some of the funniest of the whole movie. A solid "6" of 10.

Somewhat funny if silly
slavergne-130 January 2022
I sort of enjoyed this movie, but found it a bit ridiculous in its portrayal of stupidity as being rampant.

That being said there were a few redeeming qualities to it, like making things right in the end.

Not my go to type of movie but it has a certain measure of quality to it once I got past the ridiculous character.

A comedy with a style of humor that may not be everyone's cup of tea.
ychderooij22 September 2021
When I read what this movie would be about I loved the idea and was almost certain I was going to at least like the movie.

I thought it would be a little like "Ghosts", the series from BBC One from 2019, which I enjoy a lot.

But then I watched it and struggled through it. You know when a certain style of comedy just isn't for you? That's exactly what happened.

I just cringed too many times. Too many moments of second hand embarrassment.

There are different ways of writing a "ne'er-do-well" main character but the way Hannah was written just didn't make me root for her. I also wasn't sold on the character. In my opinion she's unrealistically ignorant about the world and generally not a well written version of a gross, dumb and crass woman.

The acting was really good and I think the actors were well cast for this movie. The premise of a ne'er-do-well who becomes a tour guide in a historic estate and winds up befriending the manor's resident ghost could be a really good comedy movie in my opinion if only it was approached in a different way.

What I liked about it; the acting quality, the premise itself What I disliked about it; the type of humor, the writing.

Surprisingly good and funny
cobo-311 September 2021
This movie is really intriguing.

On one hand, it has great performances from seasoned actors like Melanie Lynskey that has great comedic timing since Two and an Half Men, and Justin Long and Judy Greer that are always great.

It also has laugh out loud moments and a very classic and endearing plot.

But on the other hand, the production values are at amateur level. The sound, photography and costumes look like taken from a school production.

The editing lacks pace, and the script is not tight enough and it falters several times.

I have no idea how this movie was produced, but it could have been absolutely great given a few more script revisions, more production values and a much better crew behind the camera.

As is, it is a good time. And if after watching the trailer you have dismissed it as a low budget misfire, I recommend you to give it a chance. The end result is much better than anyone could have expected from the promotional material.

Stars Purely For Actors Appearing On Screen
wildernessbarbie30 December 2021
They did the best they could with what they had I suppose, but the characters are so flat and 80's stereotyped.

The lead character is so unbelievably unlikable and idiotic. Her profound ignorance, desperation and apathy is painful to watch.

Her love interest, no, not the Dude Bro Douchebag (the answer to "What if a coke spoon were a person?), the Doormat, is pathetically spineless and reminiscent of a bedraggled puppy one finds abandoned in a soggy cardboard box in a Walmart parking lot on a rainy day.

I was looking for a comedy and only found it in the bloopers during the credits.

The whole movie is best summed up by Tanner Wadsworth's last line, which is offensive so I'll not repeat it here.

Good concept, horrible movie
monicasspecials25 January 2022
I was looking forward to a good comedy, but sadly, this isn't it. It could have been so much better with different writers and directors. I really tried to watch it, but just couldn't get past the stupidity.

Some of the humor was crass and did not work well, but I enjoyed the actors and the story. Would be nice to see Melanie Lynsey and Judy Greer act together in another movie!

I Had Hope - But Alas...
visionarylife19 September 2021
I saw reviews for and against this movie. I liked the plot. I liked the stars. I tend to be pretty easy to entertain. But man, this is a Snoozer! I actually had trouble staying awake. Just little to no energy from the players. I especially loved Melanie Lynskey as "Rose" in Two And a Half Men. The director in this movie wasted her talent along with Justin's and the rest of the cast by settling for less than the best. Could have been a really fun movie. The plot idea was great. But the writing and directing were terrible.

Hilarious!!
rogermojo_huka12 September 2021
When i saw the cast i immediately thought i should watch this. Dont go in there with high expectation. This is not like your conventional movie. No make up nothing. You can see their wrinkles and their acne on the actor's faces. The story could become a bit slow at times but every actor played their role to perfection. I could just look at ryan and justin and laugh.

funny stuff.
ksf-211 February 2022
When hannah loses her job delivering pot, she takes a job as a docent in a historic house. Which is haunted ! Hannah is played by melanie lynskey, aka rose on two and a half men! Co-stars ryan phillippe and justin long. When the ghost of the prior owner wants help righting a wrong, hannah comes up with a plan to try to make things right. It's silly and fun. Pretty lightweight stuff, but very entertaining. Written and directed by the long brothers... justin and christian. It's not usually a good thing when the same people write, direct, and act. Here, it works quite well. The story is very similar to abbott and costello's time of their lives, from 1946. And was released during the covid pandemic, so did not get the wide release it deserved.

Old school comedy
Gabriel441616 September 2021
This comedy flick is nothing grand. But it works.

It's like the straight forward light, silly, entertaining stuff we had back in the 80's-90's with actors like Steve Martin.

It's character and story driven without any political narrative which is rare these days.

Gleeful, prim debauchery-but overmuch
Hallelujah28916 January 2022
"Lady of the Manor" has a cast of many familiar faces in lead roles. The actors have charisma and make for an enjoyable watch, however the lead actress's character begins to grate after a while because of many kinds of rudenesses that's part of her character arc, yes, but which doesn't fully go away. Despite this many charming moments still shine, such as teaching a prim and proper 19th century lady how to make silly faces or fart.

The central plot is fairly predictable, or perhaps completely predictable. But the characters make it a ride to enjoy even though also to frustration and then also confusion. Such as what indeed are the ghosts powers, and really should the story exist at all given what the ghost could've compelled others to do earlier?

While mixed feelings did make me skip through some sections, I did have some laugh out moments which is an achievement for myself and any film. If you can look past a bit of overindulgent writing, there's smart portrayals (particularly of douchebag Tanner), quick editing, and an underlying decency to the selfish lead character.

Just not good!
anitam5 January 2022
I really didn't like this movie at all. Judie Greer is often fun in comedies but she just didn't fit well in this role, neither did the rest of the cast...it was just pathetic.

The characters were not likeable, although the situation should have been.

The costuming was horrible (you could literally see the metal zipper on Judi Greer's dress a few times, when her dress certainly would not have had one.) The situations that should have been funny just....weren't either.

This movie had the potential to be funny but was so poorly mishandled that it failed miserably.

I don't understand how so many good actors can produce such a terrible film.
ranwulfs6 December 2021
I love Melanie Lynskey, but this was pretty awful. Her character was flat and one dimensional, and I had the feeling she was phoning the whole thing in. She's a good actor with great comedic chops, so for the life of me I can't understand how she and several other recognizable names ended up in this awkwardly written and poorly paced nonsense. Did they all owe Justin & Christian Long a favor? And speaking of the frères Long, their directing was...well, nonexistent. The entire production was directionless and lost at sea. There's the germ of a cute story in here somewhere, but good luck finding it. Did I say the actors were all recognizable? Perhaps I should retract that, because Ryan Philippe is doing his best via surgery to make himself less and less recognizable. I guess turning 47 was too much for him: his face is unnatural and a little creepy. There are several other things about this film that just irritated me because they were completely avoidable. For example, the "manor" is supposed to be from the 1840s, when clearly it's a 1920s structure. The story was set in Georgia, but shot in Florida. Are there no antebellum buildings in Florida? If no, couldn't they have used external shots of a period appropriate house from a neighboring state? I hear Georgia & Mississippi are chock full of those things. And why didn't anyone ever clean Melanie up? Again, I like her, but her character is a grossly unpleasant slob throughout the entire story, and not in an adorably-disorganized-ugly-duckling-who-will-become-a-swan-in-the-end kind of way. The character is lusted after by 2 guys, but men don't generally chase fat, greasy-haired stoners who sit on the couch in pajamas all day. I know I wouldn't. Anyway, I could go on, but this is getting boring.

I would skip this movie if I were you, even if you're a fan of the people in it. Something went terribly wrong somewhere, and the whole effort turned out excusably mediocre to downright bad. Hard and disappointing pass. Meh.

It's fun. Should have been a TV show though.
tenseventythree24 June 2022
It felt like a long TV show the way it was paced etc. This could have been an enjoyable mini series or something. It's a fun watch. Definitely some hilarious moments.

Those who rate this low probably don't think farts are funny.

tarairwin6 April 2022
I like everybody in this film and I just feel bad for them. I couldn't finish it but gave it an hour. I have no idea who they were trying to appeal to but unfortunately it wasn't my demographic. It looked like a high school play written by drama club and filmed on a camcorder.

Fun and delightful
Gordon-1117 October 2021
The story itself is fun and delightful. Characters are quite interesting, and are sympathetic. However, the unlady-like lead singer woman isn't very likable, and she is very annoying. If she was written to be slightly more serious, I would have enjoyed this film more.
