Evidence was destroyed
nogodnomasters27 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Natalie (Monroe Cline ) walks in her sleep, has nightmares, and has eye make-up like Amanda Seyfield. Her mom (Crystal Allen) is no Mrs. Cleaver and is in jail for a double homicide. Heavy clues are dropped, a little too heavy, (wink wink nudge nudge) that Natalie may have been the real killer and her mom is taking the rap for her.

The story is designed for twists. I wish the acting, direction, and dialogue had been better. What do you expect on a made for TV film? Watchable for Lifetime fans.

Decent Whodunnit

Warning: Spoilers
This movie isn't the best murder mystery out there, but they did set up a few options for who might have been the killer in the second set of murders.

There were a few things that I have to question, though. Like how did the aunt lose track of Natalie literal SECONDS after she walked out the door? Unless Natalie has super-speed, she couldn't have gotten farther than to the end of the driveway in that amount of time. Or how the bartender (former police officer, who was the first on the scene of the original killings) admitted to destroying evidence even though he had no real reason to, and how, even after admitting it, he seemingly wasn't punished for it.

Great premise....bad execution.

Great idea just couldn't get past some of the bad acting. The leads were ok but the Captain, she was just unbelievable. As was Natalie's boss (store owner). Got have a great supporting cast too.

Lots of surprises

I was surprised at the ending of this movie and the real villain. I agree with the previous reviewer that the police Captain (lady) acting was bad. I enjoyed this thriller and the fact that the ending was a total surprise.

Terrible TV movie.

In an area where standards are not high, this one manages to plumb new depths. A rip off of "Gaslight" set in the leafy suburban homes in which which these day time TV suburban melodramas are regularly staged, it manages to field uninvolving characters played implausibly by a short on personality cast involved in dim plot twists till we get to a really nasty ending.

Well at least it isn't the usual endorsement of motherhood.

Leave it to Cleaver

Warning: Spoilers
"Weaver the Killer Cleaver" was the nickname given to Annie Weaver, who was found guilty of a double homicide of the Millers, a nice couple living in her home. It was her daughter Natalie (Nat), whose testimony against her mother put Annie on death row. But now, six years later, two fresh murders are committed that point to a killer still on the loose and the exoneration of Annie Weaver.

Nat herself comes to believe that she may have killed the Millers. Her memory is vague, but, in a flash, she recalls that she was holding the infamous cleaver at the time her mom found her cowering in a closet. Nat has also been sleepwalking and has direct ties to the two most recent victims, an obnoxious fellow high school student named Kent and her employer Owen.

The film succeeds in developing suspense around a number of characters who could be the killer. Nat's friend Geoff becomes a suspect when she discovers him following her and carrying a concealed knife. Her psychiatrist, Dr. Desmond Welk, gives her the odd advice of returning to the crime scene and visiting her mother in prison, and he loves to keep Nat heavily medicated. Her Aunt Caroline has nothing but disparaging words to say about Annie. It may also be revealing that no one in Ridgeside has a positive memory of Annie Weaver.

The sleepy community of Ridgeside is unhinged by the murder saga and a police department that includes the intransigent Captain Maggie Lawrence, who is determined to arrest Nat for the four murders. A retired officer, John Matthews, admits to destroying evidence in the case to avoid raising doubt about Annie's guilt.

But the film's most immovable force is Aunt Caroline when she vows to Nat, "I'm never going to stop protecting you." Nothing in the world may impede the love of a mother for her daughter, and the devoted aunt is just as caring as the loving parents in "Leave it to Beaver."

A really Good and Suspensful Murder Mystery
izzdustin9 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film was enjoyable to watch , very suspenseful, and the mystery was very satisfying with how the small clues throughout it lead to the reveal of the killer.

Spoilers below I do have a few small problems with it however, the mother being released from prison simply because there is a copycat who might be the real killer is hard to believe and a bit distracting.

Really?

You didn't figure it out until the end? I figured it out immediately. It is still a good movie but how you wouldn't have immediately guessed who done it is beyond me. I thought it wasn't the usual yell at the tv lifetime which is pretty rare.
