The Imposter (2012)
8/10
It's hard to believe people could be this stupid, but it made for a hell of a story at least

Early on in 'The Imposter' I kept thinking to myself that surely no one could be this stupid, let alone a multitude of people including an FBI agent. I kept thinking that I must be missing something. Turns out I wasn't. This is an admittedly incredible story, but it only happened because some people made incredibly egregious mistakes. Almost every person in this documentary is either very stupid or evil.

It's great that they got Frédéric Bourdin to appear in this. He was actually quite fascinating to listen to. In fact all the characters in this, even if they're far from perfect people, are at least reasonably charismatic and easy to listen to. It was great to get the story from two sides, even if both sides are likely somewhat unreliable narrators.

The only thing 'The Imposter' is missing is a mind-blowing ending. The film-makers went searching for it, as you'll see in the film, but unfortunately came up empty. Even without that though it is a very captivating viewing experience. It's made me want to get out and watch more documentaries which is a good thing. I would recommend checking this one out if you haven't already.
