Difficult to rate tbh
borgolarici26 September 2020
I feel like I'm not really equipped to rate this documentary because a parent's grief is not something you can really discuss about. Because the main theme here is grief, not immortality or cryogenic conservation. This documentary made me feel uncomfortable because I had the distinct impression that something in this family's dynamics was not working quite right... It IS an interesting watch but at the same time I felt like an intruder.

Just not good enough.
ShaunV199025 September 2020
I had high hopes for this documentary, because the topic is something that has always sparked a great interest in me. I must say this documentary was shot very well, visually this could have been a 8 or a 9. But it all went south on the angles they decided to follow in this story. This is a perfect example of a documentary that just wants it all. It wants to give you an insight in the suffering of this people, what cryonics is all about, how the son is getting involved in the science to bring back his sister. Especially with the son, it's clear from the get go this is an exceptional smart kid. But there is no information on his background. You see him sitting behind a microscope "working" on bringing back his sister. But it just feels so pretended. There is just not enough backstory on this family who is clearly very rich, which gives you quickly a privileged taste that never really goes away. In the end when the credits are rolling over your screen, you just felt like this was a rich family who could afford to never let their daughter go. But by doing this they have denied themselves the right on grieving.

Beyond imagination

Warning: Spoilers
This documentary is beyond anything I can comprehend . This family has decided to use a scientific approach in dealing with their daughters death. Maybe they cannot emotionally deal with the sadness . Maybe they really believe this resurrection will happen in the future . In the meantime , they have horribly burdened their young son with this driven " purpose " in his life . And what about the future generations of this family? Are they suppose to continue with this costly upkeep of the dehydrated brain of an ancestor? I am shocked after watching this show. But then , I suppose the family would consider me to be uneducated, or not a progressive thinker . I just think it's sad.

Don't freeze me
bonniath-139689 February 2022
After watching this entire sad flick, I have given up. The baby was so young and small and not even aware of anything that she probably didn't even know she was gonna die. Therefore, why freeze her? Just let her go.

Brave family
Joomie020828 September 2020
This family has no justification or explanation to give us. People are here to judge other people's decisions. It's terrible what they went through. They want to believe and trust their decision. Brave family!

Sad story
benneta-592-75764827 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Sad story about a family desperate to keep their daughter alive. I couldn't help but feel the father was pushing the family to cling to false hope that cryogenics could give their daughter another chance at life. To hear the son say he stayed in the room with Einz when they froze her and saw her eyes get sucked in was gut wrenching. To make the son believe that if he pursued science as a career that he may discover a way to bring her back to life just seems like the father is heaping a huge amount of pressure onto his son. Logic is stretched so far that you have to question their sanity. Einz's brain was very diseased with cancer when she died, so the plan is to freeze her brain in this diseased condition when she has already died, in the hopes that one day the world will a) have developed a cure for this type of cancer and b) can thaw a person out and bring them back to life. Even if they do develop a cure for this type of cancer some day, it would have to work instantly, as Einz has already reached death! And on top of that, somehow regenerate her body. Persuading your family to cling to such a ridiculous plan seems cruel to me. Why not give your daughter a proper burial and allow your family to grieve properly? That poor mother's face with her tears rolling down her cheeks as she followed her husband around the cryogenics lab was difficult to watch. Then the son realizing how far fetched the plan to save Einz was, and trying to explain it to his parents, only for his father to insist there was still hope for the future. Very sad.

Not sure what to take away from this
victoriasophia-8314513 September 2023
It's a very sad story but left me a bit empty, perhaps because we never really got to know the little girl while she was alive. The journey is mostly a scientific one concerning cryogenics and whether we will ever be able to restore meaningful life after death. Of course, the irony of this particular story is that the father, himself a devoted scientist, is unable to face the most natural and inevitable biological event known to man...death. Yes, losing your child is the ultimate heartbreaking event. Of course it is. We all fear it more than anything else. I do not presume to judge this family but I will say that I felt their son had been inadvertently forced into an inability to move on and have a joyful life. I empathized the most with him.

Just silly.
firebird-3683115 September 2020
Filmed very well which is why such a high rating but just silly in many different ways. Their daughter died. End of story. The parents and doctors are trying to play God. She wasn't even 3 years old. Nobody has memories at less than 3 years of age. The new child is replacing the old one that died. They would be lying to say otherwise.

If the cryogentic techs don't believe...
MissuzT22 November 2022
...why should we? This is one way to take advantage of a family who loved their baby girl so much. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but this movie was made too early, in my opinion. Nothing has been advanced scientifically since cryogentic's inception--not like we needed here. The movie established at the beginning, that the family's decision was based on science and then wove in the story of love. In the end, the father suggests to his hurting son (maybe because he saw his sister's body being disemboweled and then being quickly dehydrated) that his baby daughter's head will be reanimated when time travel has been discovered, and of course attached to another body. It didn't escape my notice that the father seemed to be living vicariously through his son. Hope the 2nd daughter doesn't have to do the same with her sister.

Isn't the reason for knowledge is Science! I can't believe some of the reviews! Is it because people don't understand? Or believe. I we didn't choose. Who r we to judge. We don't stand before that jury! Her parents said goodbye as her soul left her body! God took her home! And if he is willing to give her a second chance at life It Was Meant To Be!!!! I Choose Life! Good For U!!

Just a thought....
jenniferhine30 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Is anyone curious about the reality of this whole thing? They didn't freeze an entire person. This precious little girl was in every way decapitated after death, her body cremated, her head/brain was frozen. How exactly is she supposed to come back? Look, this is a beautiful family. They had a beautiful daughter who tragically passed away. The poor son is engrossed in all things Einz. It's such a sad story. The documentary was well done. The science is interesting but that's where it stops for me. There is no evidence to support cryogenics. It's all speculation with a very expensive price tag.

Very beautiful and Exciting...
RosanaBotafogo4 October 2020
A beautiful, dramatic and intense documentary, how not to fall in love with the little one, how not to feel the pain of that family, the enormous desire of Matriz, to have a little sister, how sad, a courageous and expensive decision, we all wanted to have this option one day, who knows in the future ... Amen...

Puzzling story
torrilbutler12 October 2021
Its seems very unhealthy to not let nature take its course. We all must die one day, some sooner than others. Imo it goes against the natural order of things. I really hope that this family can find true happiness and their daughter rest in peace.

Very controversial and not that good...
mipanieri28 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Documentary Is very controversial and a bit forced in some points. And there's a true feeling that the family dynamics are not going right. They all talk about the kid's sad fact in a very plain / almost too calm tone most of the time. The dad saying that eventually his wife convinced to freeze the baby "Because I decided It" was the first Red flag... And then it's obvious that many decisions of his son are forced by those circumstances. Why was he there while the sister got Frozen? He Remembered such traumatazing details!

Then, the spiritual part where he goes to the monks and spirituality and intimacy would be so high... But with the camera stuck to his face. Don't think a real monastery would allow It.

And of course there's also the subtecxt of how America has the greatest scientists after all: Matrix goes there to ask questions his dad wants... and, anyways , those in charge, scientifically speaking, talk about "Life without deseases" , "we won't have the issue of getting old" and "time travels" and defrosting people all in once, with no details and in a superficial way. It's like mixing facts with science-fiction, not convincing.

Some edits are problematic: only half way we get to know only her head was saved and frozen. And after talking to one person, the family gets scared of her being back to life with no memories while most of 2-year-olds don't carry long term memory anyways... And the final part of the film Is all about it. I think the whole film Is not deepened in the important points and it's too focused on the dad with a few opinions of the mother and few footage of the child. Even in the crio lab. With her crying, and filmmakers not giving her any voice but catching him almost smiling and saying "I feel I am here as a scientist" few mins before.

When It ends up with them having another baby girl, called by the same name, dressed with the same dress but saying "she's not substituting her sister" soon after saying "Our family Is not ok" I was not surprised. They were extremely unlucky and their loss Is terribile but the documentary does not help at all.

More Money Than Sense
PresidentForLife21 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Tone deaf and pointless documentary following the story of ultra-wealthy family in Thailand who cannot grieve properly for their toddler daughter stricken with an incurable brain cancer.

Rather than let her go peacefully, they subject her to ten surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. When she finally expires, they spend $80,000 to freeze her brain and store it in Arizona, where it presumably reposes to this day. The family is shown making a trip to Arizona and weeping at their daughter's storage tank. Though the film makers at least include a scene towards the end where a cryotechnician admits that the brain tissues have basically been destroyed by the process and that there is essentially no chance of revivification, the morality of the cryo scheme is not examined.

This family displays profound narcissism, gullibility, wishful thinking, and "complicated grief" which would have been best addressed by copious therapy.

Though it could have been poignant and thought provoking, this documentary unfortunately lacks the insight that could have made it resonate.
