More like a video artpiece, rather than an actual "story" . . .
charles00028 September 2020
Well . . . Visually interesting, more like a video artpiece, the sort of thing that would look great at a party, stage background for a band, that sort of thing. Unique stylized look, somewhat like a hybrid mutation of Ghost in the Shell, but with a very different story line As for an actual story, with a coherent plot and credible dialogue, that may leave more than a bit to be desired. Based on that criteria, this would be below zero status if possible, but strictly as a visual art montage . . . some credible work went into this, at least a five or a six for visual effort. Averaging those out together, three would be a fair rating. This can be entertaining, depending on what one is looking for.

Worst garbage ever. I would give it minus stars if possible.

If you want to see terrible acting and horrible visual effects , so bad you will have a headache in the first fifteen minutes if you make it that long, this is the show to do it. I have read bad reviews for shows I thought were decent but this is not one of them. The first reviews I read on this show must be internal, they were ridiculously generous.

Probably one of the worst B rated movies!
normharding30 September 2020
The cinematics have a flavor of Blade Runner and the older Tron movie which made it rather interesting. The dialogue and storyline are probably the worst I've ever seen! It wasn't worth watching more than 10 minutes.

Makes no sense , lacks a good story line , filming is horrible. The only good news is you can switch channels.

Threadbare plot, jam-packed visuals

Warning: Spoilers
There's nothing new or usual about the idea of a robot revolt in a dystopian future, and "Chrome" doesn't bring very much new to the table in this regard.

But whatever complexity is lacking in the plot is more than compensated for by the visuals and sound design. Looking at any street scene in "Chrome" is like playing "Where's Waldo" - there are so many flying objects, miniatures, graphics, rotoscopes (I think), flashing neon screens, holograms, stuttering frame rates, and bizarre color palettes on display that sometimes my eyes just couldn't take it all in, or figure out what exactly was going on. I'm reasonably sure that's what the creator had in mind,of course, but more than once I wanted to yell something at the screen like

"OK!! YOU REALLY LIKED BLADE RUNNER! NOW CAN YOU DIAL IT BACK to "11" ??

Still, an excess of energy and creativity beats the other end of the spectrum, and I am sure that lots of fun can be had just freezing the screen at various points and looking at all the ideas on display.

This one episode (as of 2020) appears to be all there is, which is too bad. Pilot episodes are almost always a rough draft, where the creators don't always have the rough parts of the story figured out, and there was obviously a lot of moxie and energy poured into this (if not a lot of taste). Let's hope that this gets some interest and some support, so that the creator can show where he wants to go with it.

Incoherent mess

~30 minutes of my life that would have been better spent watching an ant hill through a kaleidoscope.

Interesting concept, wish there was more. Clever use of miniatures and an interesting plot.

It flew by so fast I had to watch it a second time.
mail-663026 August 2020
I have never seen anything like this. It started of with a couple of static scenes and then floated through a future city with a robot narrating it. Then it introduced the main character nude and painted blue while two bad guys argued over ownership of her. After that, hold onto your seat it was none-stop action and a breathtaking ride through a world I've never seen before. Its stile reminded me of a color version of Sin City or like the Watchmen movie on 1000 cups of coffee. Recommend.

Couldn't take my eyes off of it - better on the second viewing.

This show is so sick in how it uses impression of past ages to tell it's story. They say they were trying to give a feel of olden time science fiction with the fast action stye of today. It worked. The campy acting fits perfectly. It is like watching an old cliffhanger created in modern times. I heard a podcast with one of the actresses Natasha Coppola-Shalom who plays a little flying robot say that it took them years to get it right. The only negative is I wanted more when it was over and they are releasing each episodes every few months in instillment to be like the Saturday morning cliffhangers of the golden age of cinema. The nudity was surprising but so well handled that I identified with the blue pleasure robot that eventually becomes Chrome. I don't want to create any spoilers. This series will not be everybody's cup of tea as it is not the standard cookie cutter superhero movie audiences are used to. Nor is it like the clean special effect sophistication of a Transformers movie but they clearly didn't want it to be that way. Natasha Coppola-Shalom said they used mostly models and real world effects over CGI. If you are after action and fun and want to see a movie designed like a golden age science-fiction you will love this. A lot of information goes by super fast so you will probably want to watch it twice like I did.

A cyberpunk rework of Metropolis played on fast forward
donohurp29 September 2020
This thing is nuts. It's like you put Blade Runner, Metropolis, Tetsuo the Iron Man, and The Room in a blender then just pieced it together as it came out and played it back at high speed on an old tube TV with the color on the fritz. It's really not hard to follow, like some have said, at all since the thematic concepts are straight forward: a dystopian future where sentient robots fight and run for their lives from mean humans. I can name a few dozen shows or movies that have the same basic theme. But where this series (?? It's a one episode series??, why not just call it a short film) really stands out is the visuals, I've truly never seen anything like this And I don't think I could adequately describe it here. You really should check this out, It's 30 minutes so not much of a risky investment time wise.
