But then Ortega allegedly asked for a substantial pay raise – and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. Then Barrera was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass. Landon dropped out the of the project soon after. After more ups and downs than the blade of Ghostface’s knife, Scream 7 will finally hit theaters.
Unfortunately, it won’t happen in time for this year’s Spooky Season.
According to an Instagram post from franchise star Neve Campbell, Scream 7 will be released on February 27.

“It’s gonna be a killer 2026,” Campbell promised fans.
As you may recall, Campbell did not appear in Scream 6 after clashing with producers over her salary for the film.
Initially, it looked as though her time with the franchise had come to an end.
But the seventh installment in the popular horror franchise has been plagued with endless personnel issues since before it had a script.
First, Melissa Barrera, who starred in the previous two Scream films was fired for comments that she made on social media about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Back in February of 2023, it was announced that Jordana Brewster, Scott Speedman, Laurence Fishburne, and Addison Timlin had signed on to star in the latest thriller from Terminal and Inheritance director Vaughn Stein, a project that was known as The Offer at that time. The Offer has since made its way through production and been retitled Cellar Door – and Lionsgate will be giving it a theatrical and VOD release on November 1st. With that date just five weeks away, a trailer for the film has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Sam Scott wrote the initial screenplay, which then received revisions from Lori Evans Taylor, who recently wrote and directed the supernatural thriller Bed Rest (starring Melissa Barrera of the Scream franchise) and co-wrote the upcoming horror sequel Final Destination 6, a.k.a. The world is ending and nobody cares in Ick, Joseph Kahn’s latest genre offering after 2017’s Bodied and 2011’s Detention. Despite only making four features in 20 years, Kahn is ubiquitous in pop culture from his background in directing music videos for major artists like Britney Spears and Taylor Swift. He also directed 2004’s Torque, a film received so disastrously even he pokes fun at it. That might explain why, after making one studio film, he’s directed all of his following films independently––including Ick, a riotous take on the creature feature and a scathing satire of society’s apathetic attitude in the face of existential threats.
It takes almost no time to see that Ick is very much Kahn’s own creation. This film runs rampant without a single studio note. A 2000s-set prologue establishes the backstory of Hank (Brandon Routh), a high school quarterback who was on...

Kevin Williamson is keeping busy like it’s 1998! Best known for writing Scream, Scream 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Faculty, producing Halloween H20 (while doing uncredited work on the script), and creating Dawson’s Creek, Williamson is currently gearing up to direct his second feature film, Scream 7. Back in February, we heard that he and his producer banner, Outerbanks Entertainment, were developing four major projects as part of an overall deal with Universal Television. One of those TV series projects, a crime drama called The Waterfront, was picked up by the Netflix streaming service back in May. Now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Holt McCallany (The Iron Claw) and Maria Bello (A History of Violence) are set to star in that series!

Josh Hartnett, known for his brooding charm and roles in major films like Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down, didn’t always have a clear path to stardom. Before he became a household name, his career took an unexpected turn when he landed his breakout role in The Faculty.

Almost any search of Josh Hartnett will return a bevy of articles with a headline that is some variation of “Why Josh Hartnett Left Hollywood,” which is fair. It’s a fascinating story about a guy who saw himself as an artist thrust into the spotlight of a teen heartthrob. It’s the rare story of a human choosing a simpler, more purposeful life over ultra-fame.
It’s more than admirable. A great story. But today, in honor of his latest leading role in M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap, we’re just here to talk about blood, guts, and Josh Hartnett’s strange relationship with the horror genre.
It all began with The Faculty in 1998. Though Halloween: H20 was released first, he was offered the role of Zeke in The Faculty beforehand and had to work on both simultaneously. This started his career working with Dimension Films and the dreaded Weinsteins.

Actor Josh Hartnett is relishing the challenge of inhabited two diametrically opposed characters in director M. Night Shyamalan’s unnerving new psychological thriller “Trap.” In the film, Hartnett immerses himself in the role of Cooper, a devoted father on the surface who harbors a chilling secret – he is also the elusive serial killer known only as “The Butcher.”
To fully realize Cooper’s disturbing dual nature, Hartnett underwent an intense preparation process. “Taking on such a complex, dichotomous role required me to understand both sides of this man intimately,” Hartnett tells Entertainment Weekly. Methodical in his approach, the actor purposefully avoided any media portrayals of real-life serial killers. “I didn’t want any external influences coloring my interpretation. I wanted to explore Cooper’s psyche from the inside out and uncover what drives such violence simmering beneath a friendly facade,” he says.

Josh Hartnett loves a challenge.
The risk of falling flat on his face or soaring as an actor is something he admittedly finds irresistible. “There’s that huge disparate gambler in me, I guess,” he said over Zoom from a hotel room in New York City.
So, it makes sense that he couldn’t pass up playing the lead in M. Night Shyamalan’s new psychological thriller “Trap,” where a father and daughter attend a massive concert for a pop star named Lady Raven, where the dad, portrayed by Hartnett, learns that the event is a setup to catch an elusive serial killer. Said serial killer is him.
As Cooper, Hartnett essentially had to play two roles in one — the outwardly charming prodigal father and “The Butcher,” a secret serial killer.
“His veneer, his mask that he’s putting out to the world, is really well intact at the beginning of this film.

In the late ‘90s and early aughts, Josh Hartnett was at the top of the heartthrob list, making his big screen debut in Halloween: H20 and launching into a stream of movies that easily placed him in the public eye – especially that of the teenage girl. But with that came the obsessive and the stalkers, which was part of why Hartnett started to shy away from the industry.
Although far removed from the days of being the type who gets plastered all over peoples’ bedroom walls or mirror, Josh Hartnett still remembers backing away when things got overwhelming. “I just didn’t want my life to be swallowed up by my work. And there was a notion at that time you just kind of give it all up. And you saw what happened to some people back then. They got obliterated by it. I didn’t want that for myself.

The role of Superman is undeniably one of the most coveted in the superhero genre. For fans and actors alike, it’s a dream part, offering a lot to take in and enjoy. However, Hollywood often sees actors misjudging the potential of certain roles. Take Sean Connery, for instance, who famously turned down the role of Gandalf due to a lack of understanding.
Recently, we reported that renowned British actor Jude Law had once declined the opportunity to play Superman. Now, we have another intriguing tale: Josh Hartnett, a notable actor, also turned down the Superman role—twice!
The actor in question is Josh Hartnett, a former global star who chose to step back from the blinding lights of Hollywood to protect his mental and physical health. He is now enjoying a happy and peaceful life while successfully reviving his career.

The role of Superman is undoubtedly one of the most exciting ones in the world of superheroes. So, if you’re into that sort of thing, there is certainly a lot to take from the role, and it is one of the best roles that an actor can get. But, as it often turns out in Hollywood, some actors tend to have a false perception of a role at one point. Just remember that Sean Connery (in)famously rejected the role of Gandalf because he did not understand it, whatever that means.
Not that long ago, we reported how famous British actor Jude Law rejected the role of Superman some time ago, but we now have a story about another famous actor who rejected the role, but not once – he rejected it twice!

On track for megastardom, the actor turned down the part of Superman (twice) and turned his back on Hollywood. Now living in rural Hampshire, he talks about choosing fulfilling projects, his hippie childhood, the perils of stalkers – and the fun of owning pygmy goats
Every morning, as soon as the actor Josh Hartnett wakes up in his home in the Hampshire countryside, there are mouths to be fed. Most obviously, those of his four young children. But also: the dog, several guinea pigs, several more chickens and a small herd of pygmy goats. The goats, Hartnett notes, are his favourites.

Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures once intended to make a Scream 7 that would have starred Scream (2022) and Scream VI leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon at the helm. So Scream 7 has been re-developed, and a while back it was announced that Campbell is returning to the lead as franchise heroine Sidney Prescott. Now, Campbell says the project is on track to start filming in December!

When it comes to the golden age of horror films—hell, the golden age of films in general, I will die on the hill arguing that it is the late 1990s into the early 2000s. Sure, you might have incredibly valid reasons to argue against that, but this was a time of peak cinema when it comes to my personal media consumption. I consider it a source of pride that my strongest trivia category, were I to encounter it, would easily be Teen Movies of the late ‘90s into the early ‘00s. You see, I was at the perfect age for those movies to make an impact—a nerdy preteen with no siblings who was often glued to the TV. While everyone can easily recall gems like 10 Things I Hate About You, She’s All That, Bring it On, and Mean Girls, there are an equally large amount of teen...

Horror was in a bit of a funk in the late 90s. Then 25 years ago, in July 1999, The Blair Witch Project came along and changed everything.
In a 1996 article published in The Philadelphia Enquirer, film critic Desmond Ryan bemoaned the state of mainstream films. Citing such films as Independence Day, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Eraser, and that year’s hurricane thrillride Twister, Ryan argued that Hollywood had become more interested in special effects than logic or character.
“It all began,” Ryan wrote, “when Twister’s killer tornadoes sucked up everything in their path – tractors, cows, common sense, continuity, plausibility, and the quaint notion that movies should have characters you care about.”
By the end of the 1990s, the horror genre appeared to have descended into a creative funk of its own. Of the horror films released toward the end of the decade, many of the most high-profile examples were remakes or sequels in somewhat tired franchises.

Josh Hartnett’s career has surprised some in the last ten years. The star burst onto the scene in the late ’90s, starring in “Halloween H2O” and “The Faculty.” Through most of the aughts, he soared in the Hollywood limelight with movies like “Black Hawk Down,” “40 Days and 40 Nights,” and “Lucky Number Slevin.” And then, roughly ten years ago, he seemingly disappeared.

For years, Josh Hartnett was trapped in the dreamboat status of Hollywood. He tried to break free of it by taking on darker roles in films like “The Faculty” and “Black Hawk Down,” but his chiseled features made it hard for audiences to see past his good looks. In a recent interview with Variety, Hartnett addressed this challenge, saying his role in Michael Bay’s “Pearl Harbor” was the straw that finally broke the camel’s back.
“I was still trying to figure out who I was,” Hartnett said. “Something of that magnitude that everybody knew about and sort of thought of me as the character, had an effect on me that I kicked back against. It was always something that I had to contend with at that age, and I was still trying to figure out what I meant to myself and to people around me.”

From one 1999 horror remake to another. After rewatching The Haunting with eyes that were both more critical and 25 years older, it got me thinking about the other remake that came out that year. One that was a remake of a far sillier movie and that was the first effort from a new studio, namely Dark Castle Entertainment. The original was from a far less dark castle in that of schlock and gimmick purveyor William Castle and it starred Vincent Price as a man offering strangers money to stay in an allegedly haunted house for a night. While The Haunting failed on multiple levels to improve with age, how does House on Haunted Hill (watch it Here) look after a quarter of a century? Does its cheesy yet graphic tone feel at home in the time of A24 and elevated horror or should it forfeit its 1 million dollar check and leave the cursed grounds forever.

The procedural shows have been popular with viewers for many years. Projects dedicated to the work of firefighters and other emergency personnel offer a 50-minute dose of drama and action.
Chicago Fire creators Michael Brandt and Derek Haas have been writing together since the 1990s. They sold their first script while Brandt was working as an assistant editor on Robert Rodriguez's The Faculty in 1998, but their first known project came five years later, a Fast and Furious sequel. Another famous film of the duo is the western 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.
So, Brandt and Haas definitely know a thing or two about quality scripts.

Go back to the early 2000s and there is no way that you won’t know the Hollywood heartthrob, Josh Hartnett. Famous for his incredible filmography from Pearl Harbor to Black Hawk Down, the actor vanished from the film industry while still at the top of his career. Yet starting in 2023, the actor made a remarkable comeback and went on to star in the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.
Josh Harnett will next be seen in Trap
And now he will be seen next in M. Night Shyamalan’s horror thriller, Trap. Portraying a serial killer, the trailer is enough for fans to be convinced that the actor has one hell of a performance in store for them. As the whole world seems to be hypnotized by his incredible performance, it is a no-brainer that his resurgence can be dubbed as the Brendan Fraser Effect.

Wes Craven, director of the first four films in the Scream franchise, passed away in 2015. So when Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media teamed up to revive the franchise with the new sequel that was released in 2022, the directing duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett took the helm. They then returned to direct Scream VI the following year, with both of their contributions to the franchise centering on sisters Samantha and Tara Carpenter, played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. During a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett confirmed that they had been planning to return to direct Scream 7 and complete a Carpenter sisters trilogy… but they mistakenly thought they could fit the production of their Universal Monsters movie Abigail (formerly known as Dracula’s Daughter) in between the making of Scream VI and Scream 7. Turns out, Spyglass wanted to get moving on Scream 7 sooner than their schedules allowed,...

"Star Trek" is notoriously good to its actors. If a hard-working performer gets a small gig in one episode of "Star Trek," it becomes incredibly likely they'll be invited back for another. Armin Shimerman, for instance, played a talking treasure chest and a random Ferengi character on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" years before he was offered the main role of Quark on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Likewise, Tim Russ played a terrorist on the "Next Generation" episode "Starship Mine" before he became Tuvok on "Star Trek: Voyager." There are dozens of other examples. Once you're in the "Star Trek" family, you'll be a part of it for life.
According to the book "Star Trek: The Next Generation 365," by Paula M. Block and Terry J. Erdmann, actress Famke Janssen was offered a venerated spot in the Trek family ... that she turned down. Janssen appeared in the episode "The Perfect Mate" as Kamala,...

The 1990s were full of top-notch science fiction films that won over critics and set the box office on fire -- after all, we're talking about a decade that produced "Independence Day" (which beat "Mars Attacks!" to theaters), "The Matrix" (albeit with some complex behind-the-scenes activity), "The Fifth Element" (ripping off Plato to great effect) and the list goes on and on. But not every sci-fi release can be a winner, and the decade also had its fair share of stinkers. Whether they were derivative of other (better) films, hacked to pieces as a result of studio interference, or let down by the limitations of 1990s technology, there are endless reasons why an ambitious science-fiction project might crash and burn.
However, many of these ambitious but panned sci-fi movies are often not without their redeeming factors, and despite their negative reception -- especially on Rotten Tomatoes -- you can often...

Under an overall deal for Williamson and his production banner Outerbanks Entertainment, which was finalized in December, he already has four high-profile projects in development at the TV studio that run the gamut from thriller to murder mystery to a family crime drama.
They include Rear Window, a series reimagining of the Hitchcock classic, which has been set up at Peacock. The It Girl, based on Ruth Ware’s book, with Sarah L. I don’t know of many Christmas horror adaptations. Sure, I could probably look at the history of Krampus and piece something together but other than that I’m hard pressed so let me know in the comments what I could cover next holiday season. Winter in general has all sorts of movies and stories that they are based off of. The very first episode of this show was all about The Thing and its source material Who Goes There and now in the middle of winter, at least in Colorado, I think it’s time to look at one of the better vampire properties of the 2000s and a great limited series comic. 30 Days of Night was originally pitched as a movie but when it was turned down, the comic came out and put the author’s name on the map. The near-constant rotation of villains in the seven seasons of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" provided ample opportunity for guest stars, and some of these roles went to some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Sitcom star John Ritter is a killer robot in the season 2 episode "Ted," Kal Penn of "Harold & Kumar" plays the victim of a cursed beer in season 4, and "Enchanted" star Amy Adams is featured as Tara's estranged cousin in an episode of season 5. But even in that star-studded milieu, some of the most unforgettable performances in the series were given by breakout actors and indie darlings, like SAG Award-winning multihyphenate Clea DuVall.
You might have forgotten that DuVall made an appearance in "Buffy" — in fact, the actor's character didn't appear very much on-screen at all. In "Out of Sight, Out of Mind," DuVall plays Sunnydale High School student Marcie Ross, a girl who is so shy she turns invisible,...

Two days ago, I mentioned to the loved ones I was spending Christmas with that I knew exactly where I was 25 years earlier. On the evening of December 25, 1998, I was sitting in a movie theatre, taking in an opening day screening of director Robert Rodriguez‘s alien invasion horror film The Faculty (watch it Here). Now, two days after the film’s 25th anniversary, scooper Daniel Richtman has revealed on his Patreon page that Rodriguez is producing a remake of The Faculty!
That’s all of the information that’s available at this time. The Faculty is getting a remake and Robert Rodriguez is on board as producer.
Rodriguez directed the original The Faculty from a screenplay by Scream writer Kevin Williamson (working from a story by David Wechter and Bruce Kimmel). The film has the following synopsis: To the students at Harrington High, the principal and her posse of...

It’s disco night on “The Masked Singer” this week, and panelist Ken Jeong is fully convinced that Usher is in the singing competition’s club with his homies.
And we do mean fully, in this case. Franchising is basically the bread and butter of the horror genre. It doesn't matter what critics think. It doesn't even matter if the iconic central villain is killed at the end of the movie. Where there's a will, there's a way -- and writers can always be persuaded to come up with new explanations for why their characters are put back in similarly horrific scenarios.
Within the genre, you could make the argument that sequels are the rule rather than the exception, and even subpar horror films often end up becoming franchises, whether their follow-up films are given a theatrical release or not. (Direct-to-video sequels are also a long-term staple for scary movies.) This is especially true for teen horror movies, since younger audiences have always been a target demographic for these types of films.
But every once in a while, you get a teen horror flick that's one-and-done, without a sequel on the horizon.

Not to sound like a stereotype, but I don't particularly get along with my mother-in-law. But the situation in the latest Netflix thriller, "Locked Up," is a great reminder that things could always be much, much worse. Despite little fanfare upon release and next to no promotion tied to it, "Locked In" has been consistently holding it down on the streamer's Top 10 list since it arrived on November 1. If you've not heard of the film, here's the official synopsis:
Katherine, a former Hollywood actor, wakes up in the hospital unable to move. She's been hit by a car and suffers from locked-in syndrome — her eyes are the only thing she's able to move.
