Wednesday is completely different from its predecessors, because instead of the traditional story about an eccentric old-money family living in an antebellum mansion and hiding a lot of paranormal secrets, we got a school drama starring goth Jenna Ortega.
But none of this changes the fact that Wednesday turned out to be a great black comedy with enough satire, drama and, of course, the supernatural. After all, the co-executive producer is none other than Tim Burton.
As a result, the show has received rave reviews, high ratings and wins in four Primetime Emmy Award categories. So it's no surprise that Netflix decided to renew it for a second season, which we learned about in January 2023.
A year later, the series is approaching the active production phase, and with that, more and more details are emerging. For example, we recently received word that the new addition to Season 2 will be the legendary Steve Buscemi.

A small piece of contemporary cinema history was written last night in St Andrews, Scotland when Steven Soderbergh sat down with Joe and Anthony Russo on stage at the Sands International Film Festival to discuss their 2002 collaboration Welcome to Collinwood.
Produced by Soderbergh and George Clooney who also stars alongside William H. Macy, Isaiah Washington, Sam Rockwell, Luis Guzmán, and Patricia Clarkson, Welcome to Collinwood was the second feature from the Russos following their debut feature Pieces, which bombed out of Slamdance in 1997.
“There was zero interest in the film from anybody but this man over here,” Anthony said of Pieces, pointing towards Soderbergh. The sex, lies and videotape filmmaker had been present at the doomed Pieces screening at Slamdance and reached out to the directing duo to impart some wisdom.
“It was insanely ambitious and dense,” Soderbergh told Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr, who moderated the talk, of Pieces.

Before The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Six Feet Under, The Wire, or any of the other popular HBO shows, there was Oz. The one-hour drama chronicled the lives of the staff and inmates at the Oswald State Correctional Facility, a maximum security penitentiary home to the most violent offenders in the state. It’s been over twenty years since the series concluded, but creator Tom Fontana is back with an Oz short film starring Lee Tergesen as Tobias Beecher and Dean Winters as Ryan O’Reily.
Titled Zo, the short film actually premiered at the Atx Festival in 2021, but few people were able to see it. Thankfully, Zo will premiere on YouTube on May 1st, giving fans around the world the chance to finally see it. According to Kirk Acevado, who starred in Oz as Miguel Alvarez, it could even lead to a sequel series if the short film gets enough buzz.

Hello, fellow kids! Fargo and The Big Lebowski actor Steve Buscemi is ready to snap his fingers for Wednesday Season 2! The veteran actor joins Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and others for another round of supernatural hijinks featuring Addams Family members and supernatural citizens of a strange world.
Details for Steve Buscemi’s character remain a mystery, though sources close to the production say he could play the new principal of Nevermore Academy. While the first season ended with Wednesday solving a series of mysterious and gruesome murders, information about Wednesday Season 2 is scarce. Regarding the hit show’s sophomore season, Jenna Ortega says the new season will focus more on horror than romance. So, a little less Riverdale and more of what the Addams Family brand is known for? That sounds promising to me.

Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday is expected to start filming in Ireland (season 1 was shot in Romania) sometime in late April, and during an interview with Vanity Fair the show’s star Jenna Ortega confirmed that she is about to get ready to return to the world of Wednesday Addams, revealing that she has been reading the season scripts recently – and promising that every episode of the new season will have something that will make it stand out and be memorable.
Vanity Fair asked Ortega about a previous quote where she said Wednesday season 2 will be more episodic, with each episode coming off like a standalone movie, and that it would lean further into horror. She responded, “I’ve just been reading scripts. By the time we actually start shooting, it will have been over two years since we wrapped. So internally, mentally, I’m like,...

The Tom Hardy-starring actioner Havoc, from Gareth Evans, wrapped production back in 2021 yet as it stands, isn’t slated to debut until 2025.

However, in a slimmed-down list there was one film in particular that was missing, causing an eyebrow or two to raise in puzzlement.
The film in question (as first noticed by World of Reel) is Gareth Evans’ Havoc, a movie that was shot all the way back in 2021 and yet still doesn’t seem to have secured a release date on Netflix. Jenna Ortega told E! on the Emmys red carpet that she’s “received some scripts for the second season” of “Wednesday,” her Netflix mega-hit that debuted in fall 2022 and became one of the streamer’s most-watched original series of all time. Production on Season 2 got delayed by the Hollywood strikes last year but is expected to kick off in the spring.
“We’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror,” Ortega said in an update to fans. “It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while Wednesday does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes and that’s the wonderful thing about her.
Ortega continued, “There’s really, really good one-liners and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

While Netflix awaits Season 2 of its breakout hit “Wednesday,” the latest adaptation of the “Addams Family” franchise, it is already eyeing a way to expand that universe. Variety has confirmed that Netflix and producer MGM Television are indeed aiming to spin off “Wednesday” to focus on Uncle Fester.

The Netflix streaming service had another major hit on its hands when the Addams Family series Wednesday made its debut back in November of 2022. Season 2 of that show is now gearing up to start filming in Ireland (the first season was filmed in Romania) in late April next year – and Bloomberg reports that Netflix is now considering making a spin-off based on another popular Addams Family character, Uncle Fester!

Peacock’s movie Genie delivered a solid opening for Peacock during Thanksgiving week — big enough, in fact, to rank as the streamer’s biggest original film to date.
The holiday comedy starring Melissa McCarthy and Paapa Essiedu premiered Nov. 22 on Peacock and drew about 405 million minutes of viewing time over its first five days, according to Nielsen figures (the full streaming top 10 charts for Thanksgiving week will be available later in December). Scream and Ready or Not producer James Vanderbilt is teaming up with Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon for Nuremberg, a historical drama set in post-war Germany. Arranged by Bluestone Entertainment and Walden Media, the project is inspired by Jack El Hai’s book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. Vanderbilt directs from a script he wrote, with production starting in February in Hungary.
According to Deadline, Nuremberg “focuses on the American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Malek), who is tasked with determining whether Nazi prisoners are fit to stand trial for their war crimes, and finds himself in a complex battle of wits with Hermann Göring (Crowe), Hitler’s right-hand man.” Shannon plays Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson, the chief prosecutor of the Nuremberg trials.
“What an absolute honor it is to be working with such a tremendously talented group of actors,” said Vanderbilt. “Our partners at Bluestone and Walden have been incredibly supportive,...

With the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Netflix wants to get the show into production as soon as possible.
However, the series will be filming from a new location when the cameras get rolling in 2024 on Wednesday Season 2.

When the writers strike ended near the start of October, we heard that the top priorities at the Netflix streaming service were to get the scripts for Stranger Things season 5 (the final season of that show) and Wednesday season 2 finished. Stranger Things season 5 is expected to go into production any day now, and Deadline reports that Wednesday season 2 is expected to start filming in late April. When this season goes into production, the cast and crew will be reporting to set in an entirely different country than they worked in during the first season. While season 1 was filmed in Romania, season 2 is moving to Ireland.
The Wednesday sets standing in Romania have become a major tourist attraction, but according to Deadline the decision to film the second season in a different country stems from “logistical challenges” the crew ran into while working in Romania.

Richard Curtis, the prolific writer-director behind Love Actually, is gifting audiences yet another holiday comedy this year. Set to release on Nov. 22 on Peacock, Genie stars Melissa McCarthy as Flora, a wish-granting being summoned by hapless workaholic Bernard, played by Paapa Essiedu.

Gwendoline Christie is always a formidable, striking presence on screen. Most recently, she starred alongside Jenna Ortega in Netflix's "Wednesday" as Larissa Weems, the principal of Nevermore Academy where Ortega's titular heroine goes to school. Before that, Christie appeared as Lucifer in the streamer's "The Sandman" series, which was renewed last fall. Fans, of course, first fell in love with her as the greatest knight in Westeros, Ser Brienne of Tarth, in "Game of Thrones," and she brought her sword-fighting skills to outer space for the Star Wars sequel trilogy, where she played Captain Phasma. And while her acting chops are top-notch, there's another reason Christie makes such an impact in everything she appears in: her incredibly tall height.
How tall is Christie? The 44-year-old actor clocks in at 6'3" (191 centimeters in the metric system). Her "Wednesday" costars really help emphasize her height, too: Ortega and Christina Ricci...

An aspiring mugger attempting his first stickup job has a lot to worry about. There’s a million ways that a sidewalk robbery could go wrong, from a target turning violent and pulling a gun to police catching the crime and making an arrest. But nobody ever thinks about the humiliating possibility that the would-be victim is completely unfazed by the criminal’s attempts at intimidation and simply takes pity on them.
That’s what happens in an early scene in “Story Ave” when Kadir (Asante Blackk), a shy teenager who clearly has no business getting involved with street crime, attempts to jump a stranger on the subway. A promising young painter, Kadir desperately wants to become a crew member of a local gang and graffiti collective that runs his corner of the Bronx. Near the end of Aristotle Torres’ assured feature debut “Story Ave,” a title card comes up on the screen, noting the film is “by The Bronx.” It’s a short moment, leading into the end credits, but it nevertheless speaks volumes to the textured approach that Torres gives to a film that, at least in its outline form, could feel cliché. A narrative about a gifted young artist Kadir (Asante Blackk), who falls into a gang as a result of buried trauma revolving around this family, only to be pulled out by a kind, lonely, older man Luis (Luis Guzmán) might have the surface trappings of a move-of-the-week, but Torres brings out enough stylistic flourishes and lived-in performances to elevate “Story Ave” into being one of the undersung movies of the year so far.

When Is Wednesday Season 2 Coming? Well, the first season of the show where Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton brought a new version of Wednesday Addams to life was a big hit on Netflix.
Now, there’s exciting news about the second season of this show about the Addams Family characters. Tim Burton, the director, worked on the first season and is back for the second.
The story of the first season followed Wednesday Addams as she went to a special school for kids with supernatural abilities. She had to get used to this new place while also solving a mystery about a murder that happened a long time ago.
Even though the show is mostly about Wednesday, the other spooky members of the Addams family are still important to the story.
In the first season, Wednesday figured out who the real culprits behind the mystery were, but there are still some things left unresolved.

Since 1989, Adam Sandler has been one of the busiest men in Hollywood. Not only is he a prolific funnyman on screen, but he's also got his own production company, Happy Madison, that has cranked out over 25 feature films. Sandler inked a lucrative exclusivity deal with Netflix a few years back and has been churning out films for them to varying degrees of success.
Sure, Sandler has made some sophomoric films, and many include questionable casting choices/characterizations that don't hold up in our contemporary culture (like every role Rob Schneider has ever played), but he's also been unfairly used as a punching bag by snobbish cinephiles despite the overwhelming evidence that he's a comedic genius. When he won Best Male Lead at the Independent Spirit Awards following his egregious Oscars snub for "Uncut Gems," his acceptance speech included the now-viral line, "I'd also like to give a shout-out to my fellow nominees,...

Adam Sandler has a new all-time best-reviewed movie.
The actor-comedian’s latest Netflix title, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, has managed to draw a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than any of his previous films across 34 years of making movies.
The teen comedy — which began streaming Friday — has a 96 percent “Fresh” score on the site.
That just edges out 2022’s Hustle (93 percent), 2017’s The Meyerowitz Stories (92 percent) and 2019’s Uncut Gems (91 percent). Having said that, there’s always the possibility that additional negative reviews for Bat Mitzvah could alter the standings later in the week.
Sandler has a relatively minor role in the Bat Mitzvah, but he produced the film and it stars his teenage daughters, Sunny and Sadie, with Sandler playing their father.

Adam Sandler's latest Netflix comedy is a family affair. While fans of the comedian are familiar with his wife, Jackie Sandler, appearing in many of his movies in small roles, when it comes to the upcoming "You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah," it's his daughters, Sunny and Sadie, who take center stage.
The new movie follows lifelong best friends Stacy (Sunny) and Lydia (Samantha Lorraine), two 12-year-olds determined to throw the best bat mitzvahs to ensure their adult lives start with a bang. But when a popular boy, Andy Goldfarb (Dylan Hoffman), comes between them, can their friendship and carefully laid party plans survive Hebrew school drama? Fans of Adam will get to see the comedian play his real-life daughters' dad in the movie and likely offer tons of humorous - yet sage - fatherly advice as all the teenage chaos and drama ensues around him.

Bette Gordon’s fascinating 1983 film about a woman working in an adult movie theatre has a script by Kathy Acker and parts for Nan Goldin and Spalding Gray
The 1983 indie-underground New York movie Variety, directed by Bette Gordon and scripted by Kathy Acker, is re-released for its 40-year anniversary. It is a flawed but fascinating critique of the male gaze, the porn gaze, and the luxurious ordeal of guilty voyeurism. Gordon casts a female lead, flipping gender assumptions and turning the tables on the underworld quest-torments of Paul Schrader’s male heroes in the likes of Taxi Driver and Hardcore. Perhaps she was inspired by the mysterious inner life of the listless young woman played by Diahnne Abbott in Taxi Driver, working behind the porn-cinema concessions counter, irritated by Travis Bickle’s inquiries about what candy she has: “What you see is what we got.”
