The heat is back on this summer with the return of Eddie Murphy in his iconic role as Detroit police officer Axel Foley in the fourth installment, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. While Netflix has given us a sneak peek at the movie with a teaser trailer, we are now given a new look at previously unreleased footage from the Netflix film. Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff jokes about taking advice from Axel to apply in his own life as he transitioned from Los Angeles to Detroit. We are treated to some quick comedy bits that feature some R-rated language as well as some action clips of Eddie Murphy and co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a helicopter sequence.
Nearly thirty years after the release of the last movie, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F will find Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) back on the beat in Beverly Hills. The official synopsis reads:...

"The biggest lesson I learned from Axel – is to ignore the critics" Netflix has debuted an awkward comedy featurette to promote the upcoming release of the highly anticipated, long awaited sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. It's set to debut streaming on Netflix this July. This promo has NFL division championship-winning Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff in it. He shares lessons he learned from Axel Foley which helped him adjust to the city (of Detroit) after his transfer from the Los Angeles Rams. This sequel picks up where things left off with Axel Foley (from the last movie in 1994) returning to the beat in California. When his daughter is threatened, he is drawn back to Beverly Hills to investigate the untimely demise of a long-time confidant. Eddie Murphy returns to star as Axel Foley (aka Axel F) for the fourth time. The new cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold,...

By now, everyone agrees that 1985’s Fletch, starring Chevy Chase, is a classic comedy. Indeed, the mixture of thriller and comedy made the movie iconic in its own way, with it an adaptation of the classic series by Gregory Mcdonald. In it, Chase played investigative reporter Irwin M. Fletcher, who is hired to kill a millionaire in a case of mistaken identity and is able to uncover a conspiracy involving corrupt cops, drug trafficking, and more. What made the movie unique compared to many eighties comedies was the compelling storyline, which came from Mcdonald’s book, the solid mixture of action and comedy, and that amazing soundtrack by Harold Faltermeyer.
It was such a big hit that in 1989, it got a sequel, Fletch Lives. However, while the first film is considered a classic, many maintain that the sequel is terrible, mostly because it didn’t bother to adapt one of...

The 10 Things I Hate About You cast probably didn’t know it then, but the actors in the 1999 teen rom-com would get their breakout role. In the 25 years since its release, 10 Things I Hate About You has become a cult classic and a career highlight for its actors.
On the surface, 10 Things I Hate About You doesn’t sound like a recipe for success. A William Shakespeare play reworked into a teen comedy featuring a cast of mostly unknown actors? Critics didn’t fall head over heels for it in 1999, but the movie’s appeal has grown over time and attracted new generations of fans (even if sequel plans failed). And if the 10 Things I Hate About You cast was unknown then, now there is no mistaking the talent of stars like Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

1985’s Fletch was directed by Michael Ritchie and written by Andrew Bergman. The film is an adaptation of the popular novels written by Gregory McDonald and brings a more comedic and dry approach to its titular character, Fletch, played by Chevy Chase. Fletch is an investigative journalist working the undercover beat as a homeless beach junkie as he tries to uncover the truth behind a kingpin-level drug ring that is looming over greater L.A. While undercover, Fletch is propositioned by a rich man called Alan Stanwick who claims to be dying of bone cancer to kill the man in his upper-class home so that his family can reap the benefits of his life insurance. In exchange, Fletch will receive $50,000 cash and a ticket out of the country.

Cue the synthesizers — Eddie Murphy is back as Axel Foley. It’s been nearly 30 years since we last saw the fast-talking Detroit cop, but he’s finally heading out on a new case. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F sees Axel on patrol back in Beverly Hills, with friends both old and new — and maybe even a family member. As producer Jerry Bruckheimer tells Tudum, “Eddie's such an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy – he can do anything. And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Obviously with age you get wiser. But he still has the twinkle in his eye.”
In other words: Axel’s only grown more potent in the last few decades. And so has Murphy. Director Mark Molloy tells Tudum: “Some of the funniest moments in Axel F...

One cannot understate the impact Martin Brest's crime comedy "Beverly Hills Cop" had on popular culture when it was released in 1984. Between "Cop," the 1983 comedy "Trading Places," and Walter Hill's 1982 buddy film "48 Hrs.," Eddie Murphy was suddenly one of the largest and most striking movie stars in the world. His glib delivery and willingness to be crass rattled cinemas to an astonishing degree, and audiences began flocking to see Murphy in just about anything. Brest's film was made for a mere $13 million and would rack up about $316 million worldwide. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.

The heat is back on next summer. Eddie Murphy can currently be seen in the new hit Christmas comedy on Prime Video, Candy Cane Lane. The family-friendly film reunites him with his Boomerang director, Reginald Hudlin. Next year, Murphy will be reuniting with Jerry Bruckheimer, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. While 48 Hrs. landed Murphy in Hollywood as an instant star, 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop catapulted him into the stratosphere as an A-list action-comedy star. After 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III was not received well by fans, development for a fourth was in the works for a while, and it is now about to hit screens. Netflix has unveiled new plot details and a teaser poster for the new Axel Foley adventure.
The official plot synopsis of this installment reads,

The heat is most definitely on in this episode of revisited, as we’re looking back on a quintessential piece of 1980s action / comedy movie-making, that helped to launch the career of American funnyman Eddie Murphy into the stratosphere. That’s right folk, with the much anticipated fourth entry in the series on the horizon, we’re taking a retrospective look at the Axel F infused goodness that is Beverly Hills Cop. Ok, well, I guess part four isn’t necessarily ‘much anticipated’ across the entire movie-world, but Eddie Murphy has had somewhat of a career resurgence in recent times and apart from a slightly tame and disappointing Coming 2 America, and the relative appeal of You People, he’s made a positive return the spotlight. Part four is currently slated, as per time of writing this video, for 2024 but there have been whispers about it possibly surfacing on Netflix,...

“Air” music supervisor Andrea von Foerster received a music playlist from Ben Affleck titled 1984. “It was literally my childhood,” she says of the song collection that featured classic ’80s hits including “Africa” by Toto, “Candy Girl” by New Edition and “Jump” by Van Halen.
The Affleck-helmed film, set in that same year, navigates Nike’s bid to land NBA player Michael Jordan and explores his groundbreaking sponsorship deal with the company.
That playlist from the director and star of the film was the springboard for the 23 needle drops and 18 score cues “Air” features. In curating the film’s needle drops, von Foerster wasn’t just using music to play against what was on screen — “the music was used as a showcase to tell a story,” she says.
Her goal was to use music from the year authentically, visually and musically where the lyrics would often match what was being seen on-screen.

“You saved Hollywood’s ass.” That’s what Steven Spielberg told his fellow best picture nominee Tom Cruise at the Oscars Nominees Luncheon on Feb. 13, a remark that was captured in a now-viral video clip. And while Cruise’s star power and producing muscle played a major part in Top Gun: Maverick‘s success — it was the top-grossing film of 2022 and resuscitated theatrical distribution from a pandemic-driven coma — another key player was Jerry Bruckheimer, the producing giant who helped catapult the original Top Gun into cinemas nearly four decades ago. Now, at 79, Bruckheimer has earned his first Oscar nomination for best picture, proving that a box office megahit can compete in the Oscar race alongside the critical darlings — especially since Maverick managed to be both all at once.

The Beverly Hills Cop series is one of the most consistently enjoyable in the annals of moviedom. A large part of this is due to the infectious fun the cast and crew seem to be having just making these movies. After all, a trilogy that's given us moments like a banana in the tailpipe, Johnny WIshbone from the isle of St. Croix, and George Lucas being denied entry at an amusement park must have been fun to make.
It comes as no surprise, then, that fun is apparently exactly what the cast of the upcoming "Beverly Hills Cop 4" have been having. According to star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the making of the movie also known as "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley" has been a real party all the time. Heck, even Kevin Bacon has joined the fray, and you know that dude loves to let it rip!

According to star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the making of the movie also known as "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley" has been a real party all the time. Heck, even Kevin Bacon has joined the fray, and you know that dude loves to let it rip!

One of the projects I’ve been most intrigued about in recent years has been Greg Mottola’s upcoming Fletch reboot starring Jon Hamm. A few weeks ago, we revealed that the film, Confess, Fletch, would be getting a low-key theatrical/PVOD release on September 16th, before a bow later this year on Showtime (in a similar deal to what happened to Chris Pine’s The Contractor). Just a few weeks before it’s supposed to come out, Miramax has finally delivered a trailer revealing Jon Hamm’s take on the iconic character.
For those not in the know, Fletch is based on a series of books by Gregory McDonald. In the books, Fletch is an investigative journalist who writes under the name Jane Doe. Known for his sense of humor (and – in the movies anyway – his disguises), he typically becomes part of whatever story he’s pursuing. He’s...

Diversity
U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 is teaming with TV talent company Gritty Talent to help independent production companies build more diverse senior teams. The move in the wake of the broadcaster’s new commissioning guidelines published in June, which require all the indies it works with to have ethnically diverse as well as disabled off screen talent on production teams, with the new framework coming into play Aug. 1. The requirements are part of the legacy of Channel 4’s Black to Front Project.
Gritty Talent will define where the skills gaps and talent shortages exist across the U.K. in specific genres, and they will then help to identify the suitable talent. Genres under the spotlight first will be news and current affairs, factual entertainment and documentaries. The work will be supported by Channel 4’s strategic training and development initiative 4Skills, which focuses on supporting talent from diverse and disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.

“Top Gun: Maverick” is a miraculous achievement, as is evidenced in the fact that it recently broke the 1 billion box office milestone. One of movie’s many secret weapons is its music, which is credited to original composer Harold Faltermeyer, Hans Zimmer and Lady Gaga, with the music produced by “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” composer Lorne Balfe.
Coming 36 years after the original “Top Gun,” which itself helped define a movie-going era, this new Tom Cruise-starring juggernaut could have slipped into pointless nostalgia – but doesn’t. Credit where it’s due: The music, which includes aural motifs from the original along with one key soundtrack cut, is one of its all-new flavors. A wonderful mix of Zimmer and Faltermeyer’s scoring sensibilities, the film’s soundtrack is rounded out with some heartfelt emotionality from Gaga’s songs.

It has been some time since we saw a film like Top Gun: Maverick. From the lightening strike Jerry Bruckheimer Films logo at the start, to the closing music-backed character end credits cast roll call (ala Predator and Con Air), Top Gun Maverick simply drips with ‘80s and ‘90s charisma. “They don’t make ’em like that anymore” they always say…well, Tom Cruise does! And Tron Legacy’s Joseph Kosinski is only too happy to oblige in feeding our need, our need for a good old fashioned, hand-crafted, blockbuster.
The plot sees Maverick (Cruise) still refusing to move up the ranks, and instead opting to stay in the cockpit, constantly pushing the boundaries of flight and speed. One death defying act however lands him in trouble but instead of a wrap on the knuckles, he finds himself called back to the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program,...

The highly-anticipated sequel to the 1986 “Top Gun” movie has taken off around the world, bringing a new audience as well as fans of the original into movie theaters. “Top Gun: Maverick” opens with a sequence that pays homage to the first film visually and sonically as the music launches into Harold Faltermeyer’s famous “Top Gun” anthem.
Editor Eddie Hamilton, who locked picture back in July 2020, breaks down how he helped edit the opening scene.
Paying homage to the original
In the first frames of the film, Hamilton had marks to hit as the film paid homage to the original through score, music and cinematography. The opening was almost a mirror of the 1986 original.
“Tom always said we had to start the film the same way with Harold Faltermeyer’s opening and then “Danger Zone.” It was the first thing Joseph and the Dp Claudio Miranda shot.

After a making a record-breaking 160.5 million and sporting an exceptional 96 on Rotten Tomatoes, Tom Cruise’s high-flying “Top Gun: Maverick” is among the top movie successes of the year. With love pouring in for the second chapter of the story of test pilot and flight instructor Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, can this fighter stay airborne for the next seven months and lead to Academy Awards success?
Casual awards viewers and fans have made comparisons to George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” as a possible Oscars point of comparison – a pretty wild and far-fetched correlation. One of only six movies to be nominated in every artisan category, Miller’s movie rejuvenated its franchise and arguably the entire action genre. “Maverick,” likewise, is a wonderful callback to its 1986 predecessor and boasts some fantastic effects and achievements.

This review of “Top Gun: Maverick” was first published on May 12, 2022, after its premiere at Cannes Film Festival.
The young pilots in “Top Gun: Maverick” are warned at one point about a steep aerial climb that will subject them to massive G-force. Their bodies will feel like they weigh 2000 pounds, they are told, with their skulls crushing their spines, and breathing will feel like an elephant is on their chests pressing down on their lungs.
It’s a sensation not unlike the film’s relentless onslaught in its mission to entertain, delight and move audiences; “Top Gun: Maverick” resembles an amusement-park ride in all the worst ways, in that every second feels designed to provoke a response. It’s as much an entertainment machine as a roller coaster.

The main title credits to “Top Gun: Maverick” are both surprising and confusing: “Music by Harold Faltermeyer, Lady Gaga and Hans Zimmer. Score produced by Lorne Balfe.”
That may sound like a musical mess, but aside from Gaga, all the players have connections to the original “Top Gun” or each other through previous collaborations. Berlin-based Faltermeyer scored the original 1986 “Top Gun,” winning a Grammy for the instrumental “Top Gun Anthem,” while Zimmer scored four earlier Tom Cruise films including “Rain Man,” “Days of Thunder” and “Mission: Impossible II.”
The London-based Balfe has frequently collaborated with Zimmer on various scores (from “The Dark Knight” to “Dunkirk”), scored “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” for Cruise, and and is currently working with Cruise on “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning.” The Oscar- and multiple Grammy-winning Gaga penned the new movie’s “Hold My Hand,” already touted as an original song front-runner.

I figured I should probably watch 1986’s Top Gun before my press screening of its impending sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Often it’s the case with classic films — I use the phrase loosely here — I’ve not seen that I’m embarrassed to admit that. I can’t say that’s true here, but I am mystified as to how I’ve managed to avoid this movie for almost 40 years. I’m not sure how I missed it when it was new. I mean! Summer of ’86, when this was released, I was 17 years old, and I was going to the movies a lot. It was the season of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Manhattan Project, Aliens, The Fly, and Stand by Me. All was geeky GenX glory. Maybe there were just too many movies. Strange to think that could be it, when there are so many more vying for our attention now.

The sky just isn’t big enough for these dueling aviators. Twenty-One Pilots frontman Tyler Joseph alleged that “Top Gun: Maverick” producer and star Tom Cruise “fired” the band from the sequel film’s soundtrack.
Joseph explained on Los Angeles-based radio station Kroq that he thought his Grammy-winning two-person band was flying high after being brought on by Paramount Pictures to contribute to the “Top Gun 2” soundtrack. However, Joseph said Cruise wasn’t a fan of the Pilots’ sound.
“I was working with the music placement person for the new ‘Top Gun’ on writing a new song for them, and then I believe Tom Cruise came in and just fired everyone,” Joseph said. “You’ve seen that new ‘Top Gun’ thing that he’s got? The trailer has been out for, like, three years, so there’s been a few overhauls, and I was a part of that, so,...

“Top Gun: Maverick” is already being hailed as the ultimate summer blockbuster of 2022, but the all-American sequel has a few glaring omissions: any of the female leads from the 1986 original.
“Those weren’t stories that we were throwing around,” director Joseph Kosinski told Insider. “I didn’t want every storyline to always be looking backwards. It was important to introduce some new characters.”
“Top Gun: Maverick” follows Tom Cruise’s iconic naval aviator Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who is now training a detachment of Topgun graduates, including late best friend Goose’s son Lt. Bradley Bradshaw, (Miles Teller) aka Rooster, for a dangerous mission. The sequel is set 30 years after the original and premieres at Cannes before soaring into theaters May 27.
And while new character Rooster is the emotional crux of “Maverick,” the storyline does inherently involve Goose’s wife, played by Meg Ryan, the mother (hen?) of Rooster. Yet Ryan,...

The loss of Goose (Anthony Edwards) still haunts the “Top Gun” films, despite Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) flying high once more.
Oscar winner Lady Gaga announced original song “Hold My Hand” for “Top Gun: Maverick,” the sequel to the hit 1986 film, in theaters May 27. The “House of Gucci” star released the emotional music video for the ballad on May 6, ahead of the “Top Gun: Maverick” premiere at Cannes in a few weeks.
Director Joseph Kosinski filmed Gaga belting the moving single while at an airfield in the desert. Flashbacks to the original film, helmed by Tony Scott, revisit Goose’s heartbreaking death as Cruise’s Maverick holds him. The follow-up film is set 30 years after the original, with Maverick now training a detachment of Topgun graduates, including Goose’s son Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller) aka Rooster, for a dangerous, specialized mission.

Lady Gaga has released “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick.” The song features in the film opening May 27, and already looks like it could catapult the star into the Oscar conversation.

“Hold My Hand,” is a soaring rock tune with violins and guitar licks that harken back to the power ballads of the ’80s. Jon Hamm is set to make a new advertising pitch, one that will see him taking on the deadpan, stumble-bumming 1980s-era comedy mantle of Chevy Chase with a reboot of Fletch.
Miramax has announced its development of a new Fletch movie, which will see star Hamm co-produce with the studio. The film will be a reboot of the franchise launched by 1985 hit detective comedy Fletch and continued with 1989’s Fletch Lives, which starred Chevy Chase as Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher, an eccentric-but-tenacious L.A. Times reporter who gets scoops the dangerous way while donning an absurd variety of disguises. Like the 1985 hit, the reboot will be a loosely-comedic adaptation of author Gregory McDonald’s 1974-launched series of Fletch detective novels.
As Miramax CEO Bill Block expresses in a statement:
“Fletch’s duration over audiences — whether told on paper or the big screen — entertains all and we could not be more thrilled...
