Professional elements, mixed in with cheesy writing and acting lead to an ambitious yet ultimately disappointing movie in terms of execution.

Warning: Spoilers
Madison County is a bit of an odd movie having both delightfully professional elements mixed in with cheap everyday slasher gimmicks. Firstly I believe this movie has huge potential and particularly in the areas of cinematography and special fx, despite a bit of an overuse of shaky hand-held which can get a bit annoying at times. The main letdowns in this movie however lie in the writing and acting. The plot seems like it is missing a few pieces and is a bit fragmented which detracts from the appeal of what could've been a well crafted story, secondly the dialogue and acting were both unconvincing and as much as you wanted to believe it you couldn't help but get annoyed at the acting and cheesy lines. The improvement in these areas would've distinguished it from what is a very formulaic plot idea: teenagers go to an isolated place and meet a crazed killer and of course an inevitable twist at the end.
