Forrest Gump was a movie that I willfully ignored.
At that time, when I saw the trailer of the movie and the comments of the huge number of people I knew who had seen it, I thought it was just another sappy story about the self-improvement of a mentally handicapped person from the limitations imposed by his condition in life.
Some time later I deigned to watch it on Netflix. And then I realized the mistake I had made prejudging it, and I had no choice but to give in to it.
Because in reality the film is not about a mentally handicapped person overcoming himself, but about an exceptional human being who is able to live his whole life in complete innocence.
An apparent underdog, whose simplicity hides an unconscious wisdom, which will help him to overcome turbulent times and come out of them unscathed, keeping intact all his purity.
In short, an admirable being capable of inspiring and motivating all those around him.
I warn that it is not sensible to look for verisimilitude in this cinematographic story. It is obvious that it is practically impossible to emulate such a life.
What it is about is the positive emotions it conveys, its incredible optimism with respect to the human race.
Because not only its protagonist is extraordinary, but the whole cast of characters that populate the story.
I confess that I could not help but be moved when I saw Lieutenant Dan making peace with himself while swimming legless in the ocean.
To conclude, I would like to mention as an additional, albeit secondary, attraction, the interesting review that the film makes of the recent history of the United States and the magnificent soundtrack that sets the scene.
So with all that said, I can only recommend this optimistic reflection of the human being.
