Shankar Ehsaan Loy and all the musicians are the real stars of this show !
rohitashwanigam6 August 2020
Shreya (Tamanna) and Ritwik (Radhe) are very good.

That final episode, that sequence between Naseeruddin Shah and Sheeba Chaddha gave me goosebumps.

The entire cast Naseer Sahab, Sheeba Chaddha, Atul Kulkarni, Rajesh Tailang, Amit Mistry and Kunal Roy Kapoor are all awesome.

BUT, the real stars of this show are Shankar Ehsaan Loy and all musicians. Music is the soul of this series and these guys have absolutely rocked it ! The songs like Labb par aaye are on my constant loop.

The show makes absolutely no effort to strike a balance between the mediocrity in our music industry now as against the art it really is AND STILL COULD BE!

Cheers!

CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE BEAUTY OF MUSIC ALL OVER AGAIN
rickyrik-279345 August 2020
Brilliant writing, brilliant cinematography, brilliant acting of the ensemble cast. From Naseeruddin Shah, Atul Kulkarni to the fresh faces, Ritwik and Shreya, everyone nailed it. Thank you for bringing such shows. And of course, the highlight of the show - the music. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has created a masterpiece album. This is the content we need. This is the content we should support. Loved every bit of it. Watched it thrice already.

Unexplainable❤
anyeshabiswas30 August 2020
Believe me I was not at all interested in music before watching this but now I am totally in love with classical music. The series is no doubt a must watch one. Please take out some time from your busy lives and watch this. The songs are no doubt just mesmerizing and unexplainably beautiful. Along with that Ritwik' performance is just out of the world. Everyone's performance was so underrated and real. The emotions and values were portrayed perfectly. I would recommend it to everyone especially music lovers because this is a real one guys. Absolutely loved it!❤

Top Notch Music devotion
skd-364135 August 2020
A simple story line but very deeply heartfelt, specially as a music lover. Credits to director and cast, specially the cast of Rathod family.. The role play concept of two main leads (as you have seen in trailer) to compose that song is a little bollywood/bizarre but except that brilliant..i loved it..

WOW
amansaini710 August 2020
Wow dude what a beautiful webseries, very beautiful music, great acting. Each scene comes with a lovely message. Radhey's love for singing, his hard work was shown very well. Tamanna looks so gorgeous, her acting is also fantastic. It's hard to connect with people for the first time as new artists, but they did their 200% and put four moons on it. Naseeruddin sahab played a great role, his acting skills, expressions are the best as ever. I am grateful to my friend who told me to watch this. Go and watch it I'm sure you'll love it too.

Don't judge by believing critics
smaddhav4 August 2020
It's really exciting to watch this fresh story .each actor is amazing.ritvik's performance is terrific Nasiruddin does not overshadow his or shreyas performance . The story line is gripping. But I Don't understand webseries like breathe into shadows is aplauded without any reason .and this saga is critised immensely this horrible I think audience must rate not the idiot critics community.

No ordinary web series, it's an intricately woven work of art.
durgeshmodi6 August 2020
Even if you keep aside the riveting storyline, excellent casting, exquisite shooting locations, mesmerizing acting & direction of this series; this show is worth watching for it's melodious classical music alone. Scene with raag malhar is such beautifully portrayed (sung, acted & shot) that I literally had goosebumps at the crux. This is no ordinary web series. It is an intricately woven work of art.

P. S. Congratulations to Akshat Parikh for being part of something extraordinary. Your contribution must have been instrumental in creation & guaranteed success of this show (pun intended).

I Love The Show, BUT Hear Me Out!
mth_rr1 January 2021
I want to start out this article by first saying that I loved mostly everything about Bandish Bandits by Amazon Prime, but you know by the title that there is an "except" coming after.

So I avoided the show for a long time after seeing the trailer, thinking it's just another masala love story with Rajasthan Gharanas music as a backdrop. Then I listened to one of the songs "Garaj" by Shankar Ehshan Loy, who I must say, have outdone themselves after a long time. The song tickled my curiosity and I gave in and watched it. And loved it.

Everything other than the acting by the leads Ritwik Bhowmik as Radhe and Shreya Chaudhary as Tamanna were perfect, which is fair since they are both freshers, but by no means bad. But Naseerudin Shah, Sheeba Chaddha, and Atul Kulkarni absolutely dominate the scenes they are in.

The Rajasthani Gharana music that I thought was a backdrop from the trailer, turned out to be much more than that. The show manages to dive deep into Indian classical music without having to bore the viewers. Now I want to take a moment to address this topic as in Indian cinema SO little attention is given to classical music. All the programs centered around classical music either air on Doordarshan or is a foreign documentary. The only classical music dedicated movies I remember are in black and white from the times of Manna Dey and the gang. I just want to thank the creators just for bringing classical music out in an entertaining form and to the actors and musicians who did an excellent job of justifying it.

Here's where it gets tricky though. This is the part where the "BUT" comes in. The show, in a desperate need to connect to the younger crowd, uses a lot of cuss words and some adult lingo that prevents it from being watched together in a family. The show has a perfect setting to be a family show: tradition, family issues, classical music, great actors, and history. But it ruins that by adding cursing and adult words. It seems to be a trend these days that if you don't have gaalis in your show/movie it's not cool, that people will not connect. Since everyone cusses these days, it looks more authentic. The truth is, it doesn't. Indian people grew up on generations of movies that never cussed on screen. Now, I understand if a character calls for foul language, if it fits the narrative then by all means cuss away. But if you watch the show you will know it was totally uncalled for.

It pissed me off that I couldn't show this golden content of a show to my mother. This affects a lot to the older generations like parents and grandparents, for whom there isn't much content available to begin with. I saw how this show could have been a bridge between two generations. Fusing the classical with the hip millennials. For older people to connect with the young, for them to sit with their children and watch something together. But at last, the showrunners do what they must to get more revenue/viewers.

In my opinion, I think they should totally do a PG / censored version. Win-win.

Regressive story
bidish147 June 2022
What a regressive writing this is. Absolutely hated how everyone just succumbed to the patriarch. That's not how real life works. No one has the guts to speak up to him and yet they try to follow and up hold his sense of false pride. Disgusted. Should have better focused on the love story. The lead actress is stunning.

Cheesy trailer, meaty series
pratikpattanaik9 August 2020
The trailer might suggest this series to be a typical youth drama. However, it is way more than that. The acting is excellent, both from new generation actors like Rithwik Bhowmik and Shreya Choudhury and veteran maestros like Naseeruddin Shah, Sheeba Chaddha and Atul Kulkarni. Kunaal Roy Kapoor stands out as a comic relief and supporting actor. The whole cast impresses. The city of Jodhpur is felt quite authentically and is immersive with its aesthetic quality. While the series contains some cliches, they're carried well by the talent of its actors. The greater part of this series is about the struggles of maintaining Indian classical music, particularly with the austere strictures commanded by its masters. It is also about the trials of a relationship with ambitious partners. Most of all, it's a story about the strive for excellence.

The best part of the series is arguably its music. The whole album by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is a wonder, particularly the classical edge. To wit, I've been writing this review while listening to the opening theme for the 30th time in loop and have listened to the whole album twice already.

Nice series, would have been better without cuss words.
apoorvabv4 August 2020
Such series should be there in more amount.

It can make viewers surf some unnoticed genres too.

If cuss words were not there in this series, it would be a very good family watch.

Musicians aside, the show is not that great
shibenb20 August 2020
The musicians have done an amazing job, and a show dedicated to them is great. But if there was a DVD set or an album of just the musicals, I would rather have that. Reason is the main characters. Their love story, struggles, meetings, relationship, everything is superficial and shallow. I feel the main characters are the prerequisites and fundamentals of a good show or movie. Here they are a disappointment and make watching it a drag. I was often skipping the filler for the main stars which was the musicians, and that process was exhausting. Sorry, its a 3 for me.

Lost its soul after episode 4
anindyasudhir-255-5408420 August 2020
Seeing its 8.8 rating and so many positive reviews, I had really high hopes for this series and it did started off with a bang. Episode 1 was amazing and was able to somewhat get to the soul of classical music but then creators decided to add same old irritating bollywood masala in it which made this potentially superb series into bollywood type crap. I was hoping for a soulful journey where western music finds solace in the spirituality of Indian classical music but turned into bollywood masala web series. Some part of the series are really good. So, a 7 is justified
