Rise of TMNT
MB-reviewer1855 August 2022
I thought Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie (2022) was fun, I also thought the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series was entertaining.

The voice cast is great like Ben Schwartz as Leonardo, and the 4 turtles have good personalities. I liked Casey Jones, and I liked that the Krang is the main villain.

There are funny lines from the characters and there are great serious moments. There are emotional moments that work and there can be brutal moments that happen to the Turtles.

The animation is great. Its fast moving, it has nice visuals, and it looks amazing when action scenes are happening. The action scenes are fun, especially when the Turtles are fighting the Krang.

The Krang are threatening and do disturbing things. I overall had fun with Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie (2022), and I think you will too especially if you have seen the series.

Decent finale movie for an underrated show
Rectangular_businessman24 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I personally think Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is way over-hated. Sure, it changed many elements from the source material, but as an independent work, it's actually pretty fun to watch. And it also a very nice animation style.

The movie is a bit more intense than the series, but still has plenty of humor; perhaps the worst aspect from it was the characterization of Leonardo, who at first behaves in an extremely immature way (Far more than in the regular episodes of the series) to the point one would think he had regressed mentally, but from a narrative standpoint, said characterization is understable as part of his development in this movie, where finally matures and becomes a proper leader for the team.

The movie, like the show, is fast-paced and fun to watch. Maybe a bit rushed at points, but definately not bad. No idea of why it's rated so low.

Love it!
No-Life-1016 August 2022
This movie is so fun to watch, it's not different from the series! It's well paced and the story is easy to follow and it's entertaining. The animation is wonderful, the music is great too (I love that they've remixed the theme song but it goes so well). The team did an amazing job with this movie! The only bad thing I can think of is that I can only access this through Netflix since Nic won't let me watch anything online.

I don't get all the hate for the movie and the series
parkchoc11 August 2022
The series was much better than the movie but the movie was also great.

I wish there was more on the future aspect but overall the movie did a good job of telling a story.

The animation and comedy was really the better part of movie but what im not understanding is the low ratings for the movie itself.

Teenage Mutant Magical Turtles
Doraemon3454223 August 2022
What, the turtles have magical ninja power? These are not the ninja turtles that I remember. But since this one is based on a Nickelodeon series that I never watched and didn't even know exist, there would be an explanation on how the turtles gain their magic powers in that show, but it doesn't matter.

I also didn't grew up or even born yet in the eighties when the first animated series was popular. What I know about the turtles is from the PS2 games I played, the movie from 1990, 2007 and the Michael Bay movies with the hideous turtles. So I am not a TMNT fan at all and I only watch this because it's on Netflix.

Well this movie is exciting, action packed fun for kids and the kids at heart. The animation style is wild, eccentric and colourful. And the plot is standard save the world stuff and who cares.

All great harmless fun with none of the wokeness...except April O Neal is race swapped. This will be problematic to some people who can't even accept a tiny hint of woke in their entertainment. I don't fret about politics and the littlest thing, but I'm also not tooo woke.....

Rise of C Shell
wolvie_138 August 2022
While the voice cast is quite good , being an old TMNT fun , this is poorly written , with lines that make you in a way to loose intelligence, and not enough plot or development for the characters. You could argue this is a kids shows but still comparing to previous series , oh boy. Not a fun of the animation either and i would beg anyone reading this please don't do the same mistake as me and watch even 10 minutes. If you liked the old animated series from the 90s and 20s , even the ones back in 2012 , please avoid this . Better go back and re watch previous series. By no way i consider this a proper title in the animation history of TMNT. NO WAY.

Nice Way To Continue A Series That Deserves Better
jeremycrimsonfox6 August 2022
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an underrated series that lasted two seasons, with fans bashing it for being a comedy and not having many established characters outside the Turtles, Splinter, and April O'Neal (even going as far as to make Shredder a secret while having new character Baron Draxum, voiced by professional wrestler John Cena, as the recurring enemy), but I found it to be a better comedy than Teen Titans Go! And this movie could be the farewell the series needs (unless it does well enough to warrant a third season happening0.

In the year 2044, the world has been taken over by the Krang, a race of aliens, who even defeat the resistance led by the Turtles. However, Casey Jones (not Cassandra Jones), the apprentice of Leo, is sent back in time to stop the Krang from entering Earth via a mystic doorway. Meanwhile, Leonardo's goofing off is getting on Raphael's nerves, which gets to a breaking point when the Foot Clan steal a mysterious object. Meeting Casey and learning the object is the key, the Turtles must stop the Krang and change the future, a task made more challenging when the aliens steal their mystic powers.

Being a Netflix movie, this movie does a lot of things that the TV was now allowed to (one scene had Future Leo swearing, the Krang mutating people in horrific ways). But the movie does keep the style and humor the show was known for. The movie reunites some of the cast of the show (Ben Schwartz is back as Leonardo, Eric Bauza as Master Splinter, and Omar Benson Miller as Raphael, among the other Turtles, April, and some of the villains that appear in this movie). Haley Joel Osment joins the cast as the voice of Casey Jones, while Jim Pirri and. Toks Oglagundoye voices two of the Krang leaders. This movie feels like it topped the series finale, as it has the Turtles fighting the Krang, which is a known character in the TMNT franchise, to prevent a dark future from falling not only on New York City, but the rest of the world as well.

The worst TMNT series gets the worst movie
jaykobrixon23 August 2022
The horrible humour that is straight from a 2012 tumblr post and severe mischaracterisation of each of the turtles and master splinter ruins the show and the movie by extension for any fan of the turtles.

Top-notch animation, as always. The perfect mix between excellent action and a heartfelt story. I would love to see more of these turtles in the future! Give it a chance, you won't regret it.

does the job at least
AmeenKi6 August 2022
The movie does deliver what it wants in terms of fun, great animation, and casey jones of course.

The problem is that there is not any unique stuff that actually makes you care much, just your typical action-filled saving-the-day kind of thing, which is fine because that is what TMNT is about right, but boy did I see that a lot better in Batman vs TMNT , That movie WAS something special from the story line to especially the dark and bleak atmosphere. The plot here feels just like an hour-long normal episode but with a cool ending fight scene. So i mean if you're a TMNT fan i guess you have to watch it, it is enjoyable in it the end.

Tonight you Can Dine on Turtle Soup
JayWolfgramm3 September 2022
I am a big TMNT fan. I watched the 1987, 2003 and 2012 series. I have played their video games and watched their other movies. I have been with these guys for some of the franchise's best, and their worst. When the 2018 series rolled around, I finally thought, perhaps it is silly for a 30-something year-old man to be watching these cartoons. I gave the show a fair shot, but decided, no this was not for me. Seemed like TMNT's version of "Teen Titans Go!". But, keeping with the comparison, "Teen Titans Go!" did make a quality movie or two.

So after all that backstory of my thoughts of the series, what do I think of this movie? It's OK. There have been better Ninja Turtles Movies and there have been much worse Ninja Turtles Movies.

Starting with the positives, this movie does not waste any time. It is a tight 82 minutes and it feels like the characters do not take a break from the action once it gets going. The villains of the film are appropriately intimidating. They are stronger than our hero's and are just delightfully evil. There is some real body horror that goes on with their tentacles and characters transforming. Good animation in general from this film. I admittedly have a bias towards 2D animation. This movie has a great energy and movement to all the action scenes unmatched by previous entries. The characters had some jokes that got legitimate laughs from me. But those jokes do come at a sacrifice.

On the negative side, the movie does not do a good job balancing the humor and serious moments. That may sound odd for these characters, but they need to know when to have a quiet moment to let something sink in. Bleeding a little into my critiques of the 2018 series in general, not every character can be the party dude. The dialogue of these characters are written in such a way that the characters don't stand out like they do in other portrayals. With all the characters acting this way, there is less of a variety of jokes you can do with them. It also leads to this team being really annoying, there were times in this movie I was rooting for them to fail just out of spite.

The story itself is nothing special. An evil alien race trying to take over the world, a giant sky beam, some mind control, portals, some lessons about teamwork and believing in yourself - All your basic kids' movie action stuff. Oh and no TMNT movie seems to be complete without Leo and Raph fighting, because we haven't seen that enough.

All in all, if you're a fan of the 2018 show, this will satisfy you fine. If you're a fan of the Turtles in general, this may leave you wanting more. If you are just looking for some good mindless Ninja Turtle action, then you've come to the right spot. Go Ninja Go Ninja Go.

The joy of the turtles aka michelangelo, had so few lines.

Also, sounded like a frightened girl!

I was glad to watch the turtles again , but it felt kinda off.

Its just not like tmnt
talhailyas-460696 August 2022
The thing that they made ralph the leader kills the whole vibe of tmnt and they made leonardo look dumb is just weird. The whole vibe of tmnt is that group of brothers with different atyles and changing their roles makes it not enjoyable to the OG audience at least it didn't to me thats the main reason for soo many bad reviews.

Solid............
owenpont-708033 October 2022
While not particularly memorable or special. And it could have been just a four or five part episode conclusion of a season instead of a film. This film provides the TMNT better service than the past four movies ( not counting Batman Vs TMNT ). It has all the humor, action, worry and characters to keep things interesting. It doesn't take itself to seriously and you end up having a basic level of fun with the film. However I feel like this film at times was either to much like Teen Titans Go or it goes way to quick. With a runtime of one hour and twenty two minutes, there isn't much you can do with that time and it shows. Although they did the best they could, it should have been longer so they could build the villain more. Overall its a fine attempt at the TMNT, and I wouldn't mind seeing a new season of the show. Just next time if the film you want to make is short, jut make it a final episode of a season or something like that.

AN EXCITING, DYMANIC FAMILY FILM!
omgitzphoenix5 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not much for a critic, I don't usually do reviews, or say my say in a film mostly cause I forget half the time. However this latest iteration of the brothers is something I was most excited for, one of my favourite childhood films were TMNT ( 2007 )

That was the first time I was introduced to the Turtles and I've loved them ever since, from their character dynamics, to their development and their teammaking decisions ( when they all work as a team ) .

Granted I've not really watched any of the TV shows nor the classic films, TMNT was really the only thing I saw with them until the live action films,

Then I heard about a new film for 2022 that was a film for the series I had never watched, I was like; sure why not. And then today, when it finally premiered on Netlfix, I watched it and boy was I not disappointed.

For the first time since 2007, I finally was able to watch a film that felt a similar dynamic that my childhood film managed to presume, I loved this movie.

The plot was funny, it had its sad moments and its exciting moments, the characters felt fleshed out, the only issue I had is that I didn't agree how they designed Splinter, other than that I still loved him.

The Krang felt like a powerful foe once again and posed a great threat to Earth and it was up to Casey to find a way to convince the Turtles to work together!

I won't lie, I wasn't used to seeing Rath be the one with common sense, and the most mature out of the Turtles, I just remembered Leo being that. But it was great for their characters. Leo's sacrifice at the end really made some tears, I legitimately thought he wasn't coming back.

My review ain't big, this is my first time, but from what I watched, I'm more excited for the upcoming cinema release for Seth Rogan's attempt with the Turtles.

10/10 film. Highly recommended.

Great production, yet so much wasted potential
ajimiyousef12 August 2022
Look,it's not that i haven't watched the show, but this movie could have easily hook me into it. The problem is that i was expecting something big,but i got disappointed. When it comes to the comedy my boy mickey used to be the comic relief, now everyone is supposed to be the funny guy, even master splenter. About april,my problem isn't because it's black,in contrast i love the changes, but she's like so silly and i can't handle her. But when it comes to silliness, what the heck happened to leo. He's literally mickey, but worse because he's not supposed to,he made mickey literally useless and he used to be my favourite,if you think about it,both donny and mickey don't have a caracter anymore, and raph is just annoying, and god help me with leo. Thank god we have casey though. Also the script and the dialogues just feel too rushed and weird. Otherwise, the animation and the main villain were the saviour of this movie. The crang just made me see a level threat, that seemed the tmnt can't deal with. They were so overpowered, that the only way to defeat them was to use the power of friendship, seriously?!Again the animation is insane and the mystic powers were cool otherwise i can see much more potential if they tried to take this show more seriously. And please bring me back Mickey.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2022) - How to Spoil Outstanding Characters
Edward_A_Gall20 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a 2022 film produced by Nickelodeon and published in the Netflix catalog, a film that continues the animated series of the same name but the story works regardless of whether you watch the series or not, in the plot the four Turtle brothers are self-centered thanks to their powers, now no villain was a match for them, this leaving everyone lazy except Rafael who was always looking for training and focus, the situation changes when an alien race invades the planet earth and steals the powers of the Turtles, forcing Helps them return to their roots in hand-to-hand combat and fight to prevent the Krang conquest of the land. This movie, brought me extreme sadness and anger towards the work, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles always has a striking feature that is the personality of each character, each one is very charismatic within their proposed personality and it always worked very well, no matter if the movie it was bad or not but the characters were so good that it made you create a certain affection for them, I don't know how it is in the animated series but in this movie the characters' personalities are completely changed and it still manages to be bad, like Leonardo who is always focused, he cannot flow well in socialization, he always tries to maintain his posture as a leader and guide his brothers to do the missions in the best possible way, in this film Leo became a kind of Mickey 2.0, completely inconsequential, which he would not complain if he were well written but it's not, the characters totally lost their essence and turned into anything other than Ninja Turtles, that frustrated me a lot. The story is the height of the generic and meaningless, an alien race enters the earth, the protagonists who were strong are now weak and have to reinvent themselves to face these creatures and save the day, the impression I have is that the screenwriters got it everything that is generic but that would please a child and put it in this film, because there is no good story it is just things happening and when the script has a chance to give a dramatic tone, they simply abandon it to have one more predictable and generic event for the Turtles save the day, too disappointing.

The jokes and humor, which is also a very good feature in the characters, here in this film it is null, they even try to make several and several jokes but it is impressive how none of them works, everything is so artificial and unnecessarily exaggerated, it seems that someone ingested several dyes and now it's vomiting rainbows because this film is diarrhea, this is so noticeable in the script that the film with just under an hour and a half appears to last four hours, it is so tiring. I think the only thing I can praise is the animation, as much as I'm not a fan of the artistic style the animation is actually very good, fluid and with a very decent look, but I think that's all because even the battles are confusing in this film, there comes a point of having so much on the screen, it tries to pollute, so much cutting that I no longer know what was going on, as I mentioned above: this film is diarrhea! I definitely hated this movie and I was discouraged to watch the new animated series, there are works that change things but it ends up being better than the original, this movie is otherwise where they change for the worse, it completely lost its originality and what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did being Ninja Turtles, has become some forgettable work that at most will make your 5-year-old child distracted.

It was a pretty disgraceful experience, I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and seeing things like that come out of these characters I love so much is pretty sad, Nickelodeon has gone downhill a lot in the last few years as has Cartoon Network, I know there will probably be people moaning about the movie because it's " film for children" but this argument is invalid, there are so many films and works made for the target audience to be children but at the same time manage to have a depth and stories that everyone can watch and even get emotional. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has always stood out for its humor and story, to have that taken away is like ripping someone's heart out.,

If you like the series then you'll love this! Dont listen to review bombers.
keanemonk-381526 August 2022
The original Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show was review bombed for its unique approach to the Turtles and sadly the same thing is happening with its movie counterpart. Give this movie a shot! The characters are really likable and the animation is beyond spectacular, trust me im not exaggerating.

I hated the series but I did not hate this movie
stcardinal15 August 2022
Don't let your hate for the series stop you from watching this movie. The plot wasn't Shakespearean by any means but it's a solid movie and tries to retcon a lot of things fans have hated about the series. It's fun, it's touching and there's character growth for once. Watch it, you won't be disappointed.

It's bad. Stopped after 10 min. The opening scene is déjà vu. Since when is Leonardo the hot-headed one and Raphael the wise one?!? Might be good for anyone who doesn't know the TMNT.

The real issue? The lack of pizza.
Sydd_Gribbler11 August 2022
I count only a couple times pizza is even mentioned in this new take on TMNT. I couldn't care less that April is now an in-your-face black girl, but taking out the pizza to kowtow to the anti-carb elite? Sad.

I'm not a huge fan of the show, but the movie is great!
olivershawnc6 August 2022
I've been rewatching all of the TMNT shows with my 4 year old daughter who is obsessed with all things turtles. I grew up with the 80's/90's show and it was my favorite until I watched the 2013 show all the way through. It's my daughter's favorite as well. She calls the current show Big Ralph show because the turtles are all different sizes. It's very different from the other shows in a lot of ways, and this has caused some division in the fan base. I find it alright at best, but she likes it. The show was only on for 2 seasons so I was surprised we were getting a movie. It turns out to be really good.

The plot is somewhat cliche as it has to do with time travel. I feel time travel episodes/stories in shows like this are lazy writing, but they've dealt with it on other Turtles shows. It's not a bad story and kept us engaged until the end. It's a dark movie, but I like that about it. What I really appreciated was that we got a new version of a classic villain. The show hardly had any.

Like any movie of an animated show, the production values have gone up. The animation and colors are great. The voice work is top notch.

Overall it's a pretty decent movie that has made me appreciate this version of the turtles a little more. It would be nice if the show could continue to wrap up whatever story they want to tell. Or if this movie is the end it's a good way to go out.

Hugely fun burst of action and comedy
WarringtonOutbound1 October 2023
Wonderfully animated, with vibrant characters and spectacular action sequences. The first act is loaded with laughs, but the tone becomes more serious as the epic nature of the world-ending threat is revealed.

While the storyline may be very familiar - mixing elements of the first Avengers movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past, some very Lovecraftian alien invaders and a memorable moment from the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Best of Both Worlds - Rise of... tells it with huge charm, energy and enthusiasm.

Even the story arc of lead character Leonardo suceeds - despite the viewer knowing exactly where it will lead from the getgo.

It deserves a physical release.*

*By physical release, I mean it should come out on DVD/blu-ray, rather than...you know...something disgusting.
