Nice story about cults. How they forms, how to avoid and escape from them.

Very much needed

Clarity combined with competence is a treasured commodity by 2019. The inclusion of Reza Aslan adds to any and all credibility in this production, showing insight and courage in the field that concern global destruction of societies and families.
forgot the big cults again

It's amazing how people (and docu makers) always conveniently seem to forget or just plain bypass the mayor religions in these kind of stories.
All,.. and i do mean all of the characterizations linked to "cults" in this episode are also very much applicable to any of the mayor religions.
Catholic church or islam or jewishm or which ever religion you might think of, are all also very much cults.
They're not there for you or your fellow worshippers, they're there for their own plan, their own wallet, their own agenda.
Cults usually get called out for their acts of violence, wel religions have them just the same. Think of the crusades, think of the darkage-ish things IS does eventhough we live in modern times. Big religions aren't anything better or anything else in anyway than what we like to call cults.
Believe in what you want, but don't give any institute like that power over your own life.

An interesting topic made boring.

Bad sound quality, could have used more "explaining"
cyndi_fan2471 October 2022
The narrator in the episode sounds like he's being broadcast over a radio or recorded on a cassette tape (slightly fuzzed out and distorted), which could be on purpose, to evoke a sense of mystery or something. However, it is extremely unpleasant to listen to from an auditory perspective.
The way it was presented was also somewhat lacking, with topics covered only very briefly. I would have appreciated more in depth discussion, and it would be more informative and "explain" more. The format being only 17 minutes doesn't help. A 30 minute show would be more appropriate and cover more ground. Not the worst, but could use improvement.

Misrepresentation

The inclusion of Eckhart Tolle in one of the scene of 'Cults' completely misrepresents this spiritual teacher, who is essentially a modern Zen master who lives in the West. His teachings include dissolution of the Ego and exploration of the individual's path, not his. You might as well include Oprah in the episode.
