Movie wants to say something...
ssonitube27 June 2020
Digimon Series have always touched hearts and gave a new understanding of life. The last evolution gives ideas of human evolution in life and future of digimons. The story could have been little more extending, felt like a short version of full movie. Nevertheless, the feel was still same. I loved the franchise always. This movie is more about the humans and the future they hold with their partners.Animation, Soundtrack, Music awesome as always.

Story line could have made use of all characters, missed there a bit compared to earlier movies.I enjoyed how it ends, sad and happy both, however, it shows the reality of life and tells us about limitless human potential

This is for the Chosen Children who grew up with Digimon Adventure
wendywongyoongjoe5 November 2020
As a Digimon fan who was sorely disappointed with the Adventure Tri movie series, I was reluctant to watch Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. ("Kizuna") However, the Kizuna trailer convinced me to watch the movie. Older Digimon fans should not miss Kizuna, for I think this movie was targeting us.

Personally, it was an overwhelming emotional roller coaster ride from start to end. At certain points of the movie, I could resonate with the feelings joy and sorrow of Taichi & Yamato, especially the parts on growing up and moving forward in life. Digimon has always featured some difficult questions that children face, while providing some moral values as guidance.

The producers of Digimon obviously learned from its mistakes in Adventure Tri. Elements which were essential to Digimon fans from the Digimon Adventure series and the first movie are abundant in Kizuna. The main plot in Kizuna is simple and despite some shortcomings, manages to keep its focus on a few crucial themes.

Having little expectations for this movie helps, as it allows us to finally have a nice closure for Digimon Adventure.

A heart wrenching statement on growing up
commandoclause17 October 2020
I have to say, when you say "Digimon" people's first thought isn't a serious well crafted story with a huge statement to be made. I was obsessed with digimon so this maybe why the ending was so tragic for me, but it almost brought me to tears.

A great Statement on the struggles of wanting to stay an ignorant child with your friends and growing up to make something of yourself.

Everything Has an End
midorikawa-074975 September 2020
I grew up with this anime series and I am a kind of surprised about the opening song. The story is light, simple, yet touching, that makes me feel like 'I watched it as a kid that I used to be'. It really brings back memories. If you're not a fan of Digimon series, you probably find this movie just ordinary. Let this movie be last of Digimon Adventure

Better than Tri, but room for more development
nickraman-276992 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's better than Tri in terms of story, but what Kizuna lacks compared to the former was the development of Sora, Jou, Takeru, Hikari and Mimi. We know enough about Taichi and Yamato, but how many times can this be the two of them spearheading the opportunity to save the world. Perhaps it's due to Tri being planned as a OVA (earlier a series before that plan dropped) vs Kizuna being a full-fledged feature

Granted, what makes Kizuna appealing is the animation. First and foremost, Tri was such an eye sore despite the chance to see a proper English dub for the franchise done right. Kudos to the dub of this movie by the way. My salute to Joshua Seth and the rest of the cast for putting this together for the diehard fans like myself (in spite of the Covid pandemic slowing things down.) Of course, it's evident that we sorely missed the likes of Brian Donovan and Neil Kaplan voicing Daisuke and Hawkmon respectively.

Coming to the story, it's all about growing up. This was the most relatable film to all the 90 kids (and I'm sure many of you may feel the same after watching.) The bond between Digimon partner and Chosen child (or rather adult) ends after a certain amount of evolutions. As Taichi and Yamato come to fruition with this development, their time spent with Agumon and Gabumon are some of the best. The last 10 minutes is just splendid and no doubt will leave you with a lump in your throat.

The whole film is full of easter eggs to the great Mamoru Hosada's works (Children's War Game, Diablomon Strikes Back) are key examples and are sprinkled. And the Butter-fly motif with the opening song being the name-sake.

I certainly hope this isn't the last if that last word in the climax indicated that Taichi and Yamato will find a way to see their digimon partners again (and how so, the 02 epilogue indicated that the gang do co-exist & it does become the subject of Taichi's thesis in the end credits.) Another point to note, the 02 gang (even Takeru and Hikari) STILL have their digimon partners. Toei has clearly left this open-ended if they continue to do 5-year time skips (Kizuna being 2010, it can be 2015 or 2020 the next film can take place.) If and when Toei does come out with a follow-up, it should be named "Digimon Adventure : Always and Whenever (Itsumo Itsudemo)."

The Finale of my childhood!
finaldestination-g24 September 2020
Oh man, from where to start! I am now an adult and I used to watch Digimon when I was in my early teen years. This movie is a perfectly done finale for that era, the music, the evolution sequences, the cinematography! I am very very very biased to Digimon and this movie is perfect, I cried alot around the end of the movie. If you loved the original series you will love this movie!

The only thing I would've loved to see is more of Angemon/Angewomon and their evolutions but that's okay! We can't have Angemon the hero every time :) but loved that it was the first Digimon to grace the screen in this movie.

The conclusion we deserved.
ryant_43895 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was there when Tai helplessly blew Kari's whistle in the middle of the street as Greymon laid there unconscious, and I was there when a older, yet also helpless Tai blew the same whistle to bring everyone back. This felt like the perfect ending for those who first watched Omnimon form from emails as kids, to saying goodbye to the irreplaceable figures in our lives as we age.

Menoa is an understandable "antagonist" in this story, who has dealt with the treacherous void that many soon like her will come to deal with. Although her actions seem villainess in taking away freedom and growth for the sensation of living in external satisfaction, they come from her own experience and desire to deprive other of sadness.

My favourite scene by far is watching Tai and Matt share beers at a bar. No moment will resonate more with someone who watched them as kids being plunged into a world of impossible choices to now doing normal things when you enter adulthood.

There are some characters that may have deserved more recognition and closure, but for the time allotted, there was satisfactory progression and attention to important details. Glad Joe finally made it.

It truly felt like the end of an adventure, with our original digidestined growing up and Tai finally realizing his inspiration. An emotional story with an injection of nostalgia and that FINAL EVOLUTION...well done.

A beautiful parting gift for the fans of Digimon Adventure
awfulketchup27 November 2020
It's hard to face reality in which you live, if you're a grown up person who has lived through the late 90's. or if you're a fan of the older Digimon series, you'll understand the gut wrenching pain of departing from something that you've grown to adore. With that said, Last Evolution Kizuna is the real ending for the Adventure franchise, it offers not only some of the best character development, animations, fight scenes and themes which I've I frankly never seen as heavily explored in this franchise, but we also get a more compelling antagonist with ideals that come from a genuine place, which makes you as the viewer conflicted about your choices.

This makes up for the Tri movies that came before it, I'm probably biased, but my nostalgia alone couldn't let me ignore the multitude of issues those films had, this one however, hits home, all the way to the core. This is for the fans, And I enjoyed it!

A Repeated Ending for the Original Digimon Adventure Series
khoatd251123 June 2020
The plot was easy to follow, but did not have any breakthrough in comparison to other Digimon Adventure Movies and TV Shows. The same motif with Digimon Adventure: Tri. about growing up and the relationship with their digimon, but the ending in Last Evolution did not make sense with the ending in DIgimon Adventure 02 which was supposed to be taken place in the far further. I wish I could see any excited moments from the last Digimon Adventure Movie, aside from the lame emotion between human and digimon.

The soundtrack was good. Some reminded me to the old song in Digimon Adventure 02 and the second Digimon Movie. The action and animation were fine. Sadly, the producer was so lazy when reusing the old evolution scene from Digimon Adventure 01 with a little modification.

This movie is good for Digimon fans to watch but do not put too much expectation for this movie.

It's not the end just a new beginning!
Drago199512 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is trying to tell us that we have to grow up and most people like me who grew up with Digimon agree, i do too but growing up doesn't mean we can't revisit our favorite things from childhood and enjoy them even more with the good memories they bring us, we can still has adults let our selves swim in our own fantasies just to make adult life not totally boring. i grew up im 25 i have a job now but i always revisit my favorite shows specially Digimon more recently i haven't watched Digimon since like 2007 (age 12) and i couldn't buy the movies and the series because i couldn't afford it has a kid, i understand the message of the movie now and why by the ending of Adventure 02 the Digimon eventually return to their partners after they grew up and became stable adults, so when i grew up i got Digimon back because now i have a stable life and could afford to buy the whole Digimon series and movies i had to first grow up to do that that's what Matt and Tai had to do has well so their partners came back, i hope you can all understand what i mean. if you don't wanna return to Digimon or other childhood things it's fine, i do believe that after a hard day of work going back to these shows is just so relaxing and refreshing and all the worries of adult life go away for a while. Remember growing up doesn't have to be boring Digimon and other things you once enjoyed can go away but they always come back if you wish it with all your heart.

An absolute must watch if you grew up with the show
dominicbarrieau23 December 2020
Aw man, I grew up watching Digimon, it always interested me more than Pokemon, every so often I would rewatch the various series and movies. All in all, Digimon played a massive role in my life. This movie was absolutely amazing. An absolute love letter to all the fans of the series, with many cameos and references that brought tears to my eyes. On that note, make sure you have tissues nearby if you love Digimon, as the movie is gut-wrenching, but in the best way possible. While there are some small things I could nitpick, it still wouldn't lower the score I gave. Please watch this if you love Digimon.

Amazing.
emanuel_w14 January 2022
Anything a true Digimon fan could ask for. Personally, I think the last 5-10 seconds of the movie kind of destroyed my feelings but besides that absolutely stunning. I grew up with Digimon and this movie sums up everything. Beautiful, sad and tragic. Thank you for this experience!

Hardly to move on from childhood's memories.

When you grown up, you will leave memory behind either it was good or bad. Sad thing you could never meet it again. Some passed away, some just wanted to be forgotten.

The battle we all fight
tomerkh3 October 2020
Ask me how to create a good story, and I'll tell you create a Protagonist I can relate to. Ask me how to create a great one and I'll say, make sure I can relate to the Advisory too. This movie has this amazing element. Although it's not an easy task to create an Advisory people can relate too. As oppose to other "enemies" in the previous movies / TV series who were in fact bad entities, this movie does not have any "bad guy". Oh yes, there are fights. But the greatest fight is within the audience, who must fight the question is what the advisory attempt to accomplish is really bad? Had I have the option to do the same, would I act differently. (I still not sure I have the answer).

As for the rest of the movie, as oppose to Adventure Tri, I think 90% of the movie contained an interesting events, or a build up to a conflict. I enjoyed watching it, and that what I did. I didn't feel an urge of checking my phone or fast forward.

It's nice to see the heroes you grew up with straggling the same issues you straggle now, well maybe not exactly the same things... It reminds my a little bit the Pixar movie Inside Out, where they objectify the feeling and thoughts into physical beings. This movie did the same with the tools, the people and the relations that were craft for 20 years, and the result is great.

Bottom line, if you watch it, you'll enjoy it (assuming you are 15+ years old so you can relate to the characters). If you know the backstory of Season 01 you will really enjoy it. (the last episode of season 2 is also worth watching before heading to the movie, but it's not mandatory).

The only thing that bothered me however, was the post ending. The ending was fantastic, amazing a seething emotions were outburst, but then there was another scene which the only purpose (I think) was not to leave the audience with such a bidder taste. I saw a similar thing in the movie Your Name movie where there was an additional scene to give a little bit of hope to the audience. I really don't like this, I want a story to make me feel strong feelings. Even if they are not happy feelings, it's better than shutting me down.

Please don't let this last comment discourage you from watching this movie. It's really good, just stop in the ending (it's very obvious when the movie really ends).

A shallow ending with pale colors
alexglimbergwindh20 October 2020
What i liked about it Voice actors most of them at lest Sound effects Fluid animation

Disliked Soundtrack- im sure the people who loves japanese music will be in love with the soundtrack but if you grew up with the english version you'll miss the badass music.

Very pale, literally, they forgot to put som popping colors in this film for some reason. It looks like the sun is shining on it and really bad. Which is sad considering the good action they managed to animate

The style is debatable and i prefer the original tv show but it is not bad.

I hope for a remake

Perfect Ending to a Beautiful Franchsie
whatshouldicallthis1 December 2020
This movie is the perfect sendoff to Digimon.

It is both sad yet amazing.I don't think fans will be disappointed unless you really stan the other characters. So this movie is essentially Tai and Matt.Joe,Mimi, and Sora all have like 2 lines.Kari had like 3 while TK had like 5 and Izzy I think had around 9, more than the rest.I think even the 02 kids had more lines....Agumon and Gabumon had more lines.

I think this movie was amazing in a way it was what tri tried(you'll never know if the pun was intended) to do.The movie is all about growing up and letting go facing reality. The callbacks are incredibly nostalgic and the music is on parr makes me want to buy the CD...

Honestly I don't have any complaints about this movie. All good things must come to an end and I'm glad to have been able to be with this franchise.

Is this biased....absolutely

A normal person who has never seen Digimon would not get all the wonderful references this movie packs in an hour and 34 minutes, but the fans definitely will.It is a love letter to the franchise and the fans.An excellent sendoff to an excellent franchise.

Have fun.

The perfect send-off for the original characters
numeroperdido20 December 2020
Simple, yet engaging story. Some elements are clearly recycle from other entries in the series, but it works. The characters grew up up along side the viewers, with is extremely rare in this type o franchise, showing how strong the themes and characters were to begin with. Sad, the the themes of this movies are undermined by the 2020 Digimon series. But h=hey, just like the Last Evolution told us, you can't always get what you want and must always keep moving forward.

A bittersweet but awesome ending to the original series. It really captured that feeling of youth and the bond the digidestined had with their partners.

Keep to Evolve!
FelNetti9620 December 2021
The long awaited epilogue of my childhood anime, probably the first one I followed with frequency and attention, ending up being involved in every aspect of it.

And luckily I was not disappointed.

The film presents itself as the right conclusion of the series, which began 20 years ago but without really leaving us, and the feeling you get by watching it is that the characters have never abandoned us, sharing our growth path.

And in fact I, as certainly others, have seen myself in the uncertainties of the protagonists, perceiving that unconscious refusal to want to grow up, to face the maturity of adulthood and leave behind my more carefree and youthful side, which is still strongly present in me. But like them, I am also perfectly aware of the need to move forward, without fear and to continue carrying out my project to become older and more complete as a person.

A tribute to the need of going on and to the childhood that formed us, and which will always find us ready even in the face of our latest evolution!

A Not So Good Conclusion
ryanperez-199921 June 2021
I loved Digimon since I was 12 and I was definitely excited about this movie. After "Adventure tri" started out strong but went totally sideways in the last three movies, I was hoping "Last Evolution" was going to be great. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Sure it was action packed, funny and heartfelt but there so many plot holes. Like, how did the kids' phones become their Digivices and how come Tai, Matt and Sora were the only one who get lose their Digimon while the others kept theirs? But the worst thing is they bring back the team from season 2 which had me pumped because they're my favorite Digidestined team but they shoehorned them in the movie and didn't even join the fight. So, that was cold. It's supposed to be a conclusion to both seasons 1 and 2 but it felt wasted. I don't know how the director compared it to "Toy Story 3" which that was satisfying. This wasn't. I like to think "A Million Points of Lights" from season 2 is the real conclusion. The franchise needs something really awesome to get their popularity back because this was disappointing.

Wonderful
daixiez17 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The plot for this movie is kinda not a big deal for me, but for the entirety of the story, it is a big deal. It's wonderful - such a tear-jerking way to end the Adventure series. I thought they would just go back to the digital world when all of it is over, but ohhhh boi I was wrong... It's sad, but I get it. Everything eventually has to come to an end.

The quality of the animation is also superb compared to the usual ones made by Toei, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for making a wonderful ending to a wonderful series, Toei. I'm hoping to see new, fresh ideas pouring out in the newest Digimon anime, the Digimon Ghost Game.
