People are calling the lead female character dumb, she wasn't!
A-Shekhar15 March 2020
The few negative comments about the female characters' intelligence states that she was too slow and wasted opportunities but from the beginning, she has been portrayed as paranoid, a bit of a pushover and way too shy and introvert so despite that, she showed many instances of smart decisions and yet some people still call her dumb.

Being scared is like getting drunk, you never know how someone's going to react, some get all pumped up, some just lie down and some start crying!

I liked the movie, it's was pretty good!

5.5 Stars From Me
Foutainoflife13 March 2019
A woman lives alone in a one room apartment. She wakes each morning with an awful headache and after a weird incident of someone beating on the apartment door and trying to come in she starts to believe that something very strange is going on.

This wasn't a bad film but it moved at a slow pace and some things just didn't make a lot of sense. There was a nice build up of tension at times yet it fell flat at others. There was a lack of detail in a few key areas and I never really reached a point where I felt invested in the characters.

To be fair, the subtitles I was using were in a broken english so there may have been things that were literally lost in translation. However, I don't think it would have been enough to have pushed them film to have had a much higher score from me.

So,my takeaway is that it isn't awful but it left something to be desired.

Reflected the real insecurity of a female living alone in Seoul
melaniesijia4 March 2020
As a female, i definitely understood the scenes where the lead feels helpless when it comes to protecting themselves from intruders. However, her helplessness throughout the first half of the movie reminds me too much of many of her previous works. What i was baffled is that she was always bringing unnecessary trouble to herself for being so clueless. Took her quite awhile to realize and take quick action, it was kinda late when the man got to her.

The scenes where she struggled out of her captive building was really thrilling not gonna lie. It still remained clear in my mind because i really thought that was the end of her life.

Lock your door safely !
saptesh78618 June 2019
It is a psycho killer thriller. Story is simple one liner. A bank working woman get frightened by knocking door of his apartment by unknown man.. He is actually a psycho killer. And it is hard to guess who is killer. Good suspense thriller. However it does not keeping its tempo all time. Somewhere movie loses its grip and we can see repetitive incidents instead of revealing suspense. End is okay as it should be. Watchable at one for killer thriller.

Lock without Key
kosmasp7 February 2020
Well not your ordinary key that is. I hadn't seen that sort of lock before, but I reckon they can work quite well. Not all the time and not in this movie of course. But then the characters don't always work in full capacity either, so there's that too of course.

If you don't mind certain flaws, the movie might be entertaining and thrilling enough for you. It depends on your own threshold and how much you are willing to forgive ...

Definitely supenseful
IrakliKandelaki22 May 2020
I had read reviews before actually watching the movie and someone mentioned, he couldn't stand all the suspense and just turned it off before the end. He was right, it doesn't let you rest your eyes for a second.

I also want to emphasize that the movie isn't exactly a remake of the Spanish movie - Sleep Tight. Yes, the way the intruder behaves is similar, yet the outcomes and the ways he acts is totally different. Though it may be easier to guess who the real killer is, if you have watched Sleep Tight recently.

Gave me the creeps
p0t8021 September 2020
What this movie to me achieved perfectly were the eerie, desolated cityscapes. Some really nice shots there. And as the other review pointed out: the insecurity of a female living alone there.

Agreed, that some of the actions by the lead character and supporting characters seemed illogical, but it wasn't too bad, compared to similar movies.

Makes me wanna buy 5 different locks.

Surprisingly good
jindann26 May 2021
Thought it was a slow paced boring movie in the beginning, but turns out to be surprisingly good. Even without star actors, the plot and acting are convincingly real, with a lot twists and turns out of expectation, which makes it one of the best thrillers indeed, highly underrated.

Spanish movie''Sleep tight'' is far more better than this one
Misss251 April 2021
When I started watching this movie,I really didn't have any idea that it is the remake or copied spanish movie. Different between them is in spanish version there is no violence shown but in this it has some.

Truly speaking it wasn't good at all. Maybe it's beacuse I had seen the original one, so I didn't like this one that much.

Thrilled
gourabroy-290055 May 2020
I think South Korea is a home of thriller movies. No other industry cannot do like Korean. "Door Lock 2018" is another enjoyable and thrilling movie. Movie's plot is interesting, not predictable till the end. That movie moves like pendulum. Lead actress and all others did a efficient job.

No.1 idiotic female character in korean cinema
Prithvi100124 January 2019
I loved all those thrilling moments in this film, but that alone doesn't make this a good film.

Terror is hidden beyond the repetitiveness of life
mjfhhh24 February 2020
The life of Kyung-min is a work-home-sleep routine and rarely varies. But out of nowhere unsettling incidents start creeping in. The door handle to her apartment turns in the middle of the night as if someone is trying to enter, repeatedly dialling the passcode of her door lock. Is it possible that someone enters her apartment when she is out at work or worse, when she is fast asleep? And how all this connected to the disappearance of a girl next door? Kyung-min will not rest until she finds out, even if it may cost her her life.

DOOR LOCK is loosely based on a Spanish movie SLEEP TIGHT which was rather a drama than a thriller. By changing the setting to a cold faceless suburb of Seoul the movie takes us into the heart of an urban nightmare where it's easy to disappear and no-one will come looking for you. Kyung-min is an unlikable protagonist who is suffering from multiple phobias and is even ready to break certain rules to flirt with her clients, but she develops strength and resilience as the story progresses. Little by little she is turned into a warrior.

Director Kwon Lee, who usually directs dramas and comedies, is one of many recent cases of genre switch that have had excellent results. Terror here is hidden beyond the repetitiveness of life, beyond the routines we follow without question. Being one of three credited screenwriters Kwon Lee fills the screen with dread, slowly and deliberately building to an action filled set peace of a finale. Following on the footsteps of recent Korean sensation PARASITE this is one of many of last year's excellent Korean genre films.

A poor remake of Sleep Tight
balducci24 October 2021
This movie is apparently a remake of Sleep Tight. Except, Sleep Tight actually had a very interesting, multi-layered plot, with some great actors, and an excellent ending. This remake, Door Lock, is just meh.

Nothing special, yet not that bad
romelv26 January 2019
First part of the movie is quite good, however the other half - not so much. There is quite a few logical mistakes made by criminal that could have been easily exploited by detectives if they were not presented as not-so-smarts. Movie is probably more suitable for female viewers as it's exploring the topic that is more terrifying to women rather than men. The suspense and intensity was there, however the pacing and (as mentioned before) second part of the movie wasn't. Don't regret watching it, however wouldn't bother doing it again.

Great attempt, worth your time for sure
vpashish22 July 2022
A great attempt to create a psychological thriller. Even though a one time watch, worth experiencing for sure. Could have been done in a much better manner but still this one is not bad either. Great suspense and mystery build up. Serves the purpose that is spine chilling entertainment.

Good, but I wasn't blown away.
paulclaassen9 December 2020
There's little more frightening than being a victim within the comfort of your own home. 'Door Lock' explores this, and beyond.

There are some really creepy moments here, especially during the final act when we feel like yelling at the characters to just turn around and LOOK! Kong Hyo-Jin stars as Jo Kyung-Min, a young woman living on her own in a small apartment. One night whilst getting ready for bed, she notices someone trying to open her front door. Afterwards, the police doesn't believe it to be a legit case and she decides to do her own investigation when there's another attempt at entry into her apartment, and a murder.

Typical of Korean horror films, the film is unpredictable and off course the shock factor is there as well. 'Door Lock' reminded me of films like 'The Chaser', 'I saw the Devil' (only not nearly as brutal), and 'Manhole'. There are some truly nerve wrecking moments, but ultimately the film didn't impress me as much as other Korean genre films. It was nevertheless a good film, and very creepy.

A good Thriller
sathyaaero2 August 2020
The female lead actress was completely carried the film throughout end with his excellent performance. The screenplay moves fast which was the backbone of this film. The film will not make the viewers bored till end and it's a good entertainer.
