The Stalker (2020)
zainalirahmat16 August 2020
The Stalker has a great understanding and takes a lot of inspiration from 80's Slasher films, and notably stands out for its great acting and cinematic shooting. However what the film lacks is a cohesive glue that binds the movie together. Watching the film it felt like the writing was rushed and not well thought out, but makes up for it with some pretty amazing actors. I think that a reproduction of this film with a better outline and clear objective would raise the rating I would give it to a seven, and the film shows its potential well. Kudos to the team for taking a (I'm assuming) minimal budget and producing a pretty decent film. 😊

A nostalgic throwback to campy 80s horror films, complete with a lake setting and creepy score. A fun watch.

Visually and sonically good, but questionable with story choices
awilliamsmedia29 December 2020
Everything about how this movie looked and sounded was great. But the creators asked you to believe a lot of things that were sometimes a bit hard to believe.

Some of it was a leap but the story did push forward, hoping you'd stay with it which wasn't hard to do. The hate for this movie is undeserved, but there are flaws which maybe wouldn't have been difficult to fix. The big one is perhaps the story should've just begun in the lake house after the initial (and very good) opening.

My biggest issue with this story isn't even the glaring decisions but more often the desire to make everything obvious. There was nothing at al left to the imagination, in dialogue, or in the actual culprit when he is revealed, in disguise, fairly early on.

I wish they'd played with the other men that surround the mother as potential suspects.

Great niche thriller genre pic!
natejhill747 December 2021
The first thing I liked about this film was the music! Really well done, very reminiscent of the 80s style movies in this genre. The villain also sounded a bit like Freddy Krueger which was cool. The cast was refreshing, not like the cliche barbie dolls you often see in these kinds of films, more mature aged actors that cared about what they were doing. The movie was only 60 mins but to be honest is a good running time. I especially liked seeing Troy Fromin pop up too, he's a great genre character actor that I think is talented. Nicely done overall this little film and a great poster to go with it. And make sure you watch till end credits so you don't miss a bonus scene!

This is a Lifetime original movie dressed up as an unstoppable psycho killer movie with a Carpenter-like soundtrack. Unintentionally hilarious lipstick on a pig. 5 donuts out of 10.

Did not enjoy this experience

Warning: Spoilers
If you're looking for a terrible use of your time then The Stalker is the way to go. I recently watched this movie and to put it plainly, it was like watching a lion run. A totally bad experience.

Directed by John Giorgio and starring Virginia Vogt & Jimmy Ace Lewis, The Stalker told a completely boring story.

The Stalker is a Horror movie about characters who embark on a journey of Grief & Death & Fear. Despite the obstacles, big and small, the characters in the movie, as well as the viewers, still meet a terrible end. The performances from Virginia Vogt & Jimmy Ace Lewis illustrate the narrative of this movie with such a viable effort. Consequently, this film ended up being as poor as it is.

The Stalker intertwined visuals, audio, and plot in a very bad way.

It was as if John Giorgio combined the characters, the setting, and the valued objects within the film and then threw them into a mixing bowl to create a giant serving of terrible apple. As a viewer, chewing and pondering on the quality of my apple, I couldn't help but think about how sour it tasted. The flavors of the film blended so terribly that I considered getting a lion for emotional support!

Overall, I found The Stalker to be bad, boring, and poor. It is a terrible plate of apple, seasoned with the theme of Grief & Death & Horror & Fear, and is sure to leave you with a lingering sour taste in your mouth.

Reanimations of a Legendary Sub-Genre
TheAll-SeeingI25 February 2021
The '80s infamously gave rise to a niche sub-genre of the horror film vehicle, triggering a bloodbath of same-page slasher films that repurposed shared devices and motifs to an enduring effect. With "The Stalker," director John Giorgio gets into his time machine to pay homage to those historical tormentors in what becomes an engaging slab of horror moviemaking.

While Jason's iconic hockey mask from "Friday the 13th" doesn't make an appearance, nostalgically familiar point-of-view shots from the stalker's perspective feature en masse, along with a subterranean synthesizer score and a high gloss artifice cloned from the DNA of its influencers. Yet it's the central theme at the cold heart of "The Stalker" that most assures its transmissions of terror: Few thoughts are as unnerving as those of a predator who can't be stopped, and the characters caught in the sight lines of the film's namesake killer successfully project this with an over-the-top delivery that works.

For committed fans of horror films, "The Stalker" is prerequisite viewing. For all the rest of us, it's a guilty indulgence, and one that's queasy fun to submit to. - (Was this of use? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!)

Throwback Slasher Flick
GilbertS-859 November 2020
The Stalker is a campy throwback of a ride from the plot to the music and soundtrack. It's a kind of slasher movie (older 80s-ish?) that is well-paced, fun, and strictly what the movie poster promises. Bring out the popcorn and get ready for some stalking action.

Underrated

I absolutely loved this movie. It's amazing to see what someone can do with a low budget! It had me hooked from the beginning and on edge at multiple parts. Like another review said, I was kinda sad it was only an hour. Can't wait for the sequel!

Throwback to the '80s
ikpnz19 February 2021
This film takes you on a ride, with unexpected twists and turns. The family's lives are turned upside down by a stalker with mysterious motives. They escape to a small town where the locals are just as creepy. The film features some beautiful shots - with great use of colour. Intense score and some intriguing performances from the cast.

80s vibe
hoodiesandchucks21 November 2020
The Stalker has a lot of the 80s horror vibe. Good premise, some good acting, Dario Argento type of music. Too bad it's only one hour, I would have loved to see it unfold slower.

Fun 80's slasher homage!
mdr139350322 February 2021
This film is a fun call back to the grindhouse horror movies of the 70's and 80's. If you're a Gen X'er or a fan of that genre, you'll love the ride. The John Carpenter'ish score really sells it as well. Matthew Ewald is a standout and delivers a very believable psycho loner vibe as the stalker. Be sure to watch to the end for the post-credits scene.

Tightly Scripted Thriller
julianbaner10 December 2020
Follows in the footsteps of stalker/revenge thrillers like Cape Fear and Scream. Decent performances overall (especially from the father/husband who's resemblance to Nick Cave was oddly captivating). Good effort for a very low-budget film.

Creepy and Realistic
darcyweir10 November 2020
Watching this film with some friends on the weekend, we thought it was pretty well creepy just because it felt realistic in how the stalker would infiltrate the lives of his prey.

Interesting cinematography too because it would seem all scenes were filmed with the ambient lighting that existed in each setting. For example a hallway of the home where the characters would congregate to talk about something that happened would be more so dimly lit, which seemed realistic to me.

I'd say check this out!

I wouldn't want to be stalked by this guy!
BigHarvey6 April 2021
The Stalker has an 80s slasher vibe with its storytelling sensibilities and score. It feels like a comfortable suspense film to distract yourself when you have some time to kill. I have to admit, the bad guy is pretty creepy and I wouldn't want to be stalked by him, particularly when he threatens the family.

Suspenseful and engaging throughout
JoshSegel4 November 2021
This was a fast-paced and very fun ride. I don't want to say too much for fear of giving anything away, so I'll just say that it's a surprising story about consequences. The cast is great, and the performance by the actor who played the titular "Stalker" is incredible. The script is tight and clever, the direction is solid, and it's extremely well done on the technical side, too. Check it out!

A Chilling Thriller
NUDavis859-112 November 2020
A great indie thriller with solid performances. Everybody is a suspect and you just don't know whom you can trust. The parents' plight is relatable as someone stalks their family. The kids get a little lost in the dilemma but that's okay as the main focus is with the parents anyway and how they are going to deal with a stalker coming for their family. And fortunately the parents are very relatable. It definitely has twists and enough thrills to be entertaining.

Throwback Flick
williamnclay31 March 2021
A lean, tightly paced (at only an hour) throwback to the slasher/stalker thrillers of the 70s/80s.

While it doesn't bring anything new to the table, with its quick runtime it definitely hits all the hallmarks of the genre with a few twists and turns along the way. Good to pass the time with.

Also: Bonus after credits scene!

Excellent suburban thriller
mablespearhead24 September 2021
One of the things i really liked about this particular film is that this could really happen in real life, nothing supernatural. This does an excellent job at being a revenge thriller full of scares and a good time.

Add in one part surreal and two parts suspenseful and you get this taut throwback to 80's slasher flicks - if that's your thing, you'll definitely enjoy the ride.
