A voilent but realistic film
chaitannya8 June 2020
The film is based on the real estate boom of Pune city in the period of early 2000. At that time a lot of MNCs setup their operations near the scenic Mulshi region, which also gave rise to large residential projects in the nearby Kothrud region of Pune. Farmers sold their land to builders, but could not handle sudden rise in wealth. They spent the money lavish weddings, dowry & junket which they cannot afford. In few years they are rendered deep in debt & without any source of income. I have see this happening around me.

I am not a fan of violence & the level of violence in the film is something that I would desist & not suitable for kids below 12 yrs. However the performances & direction is top class. This is one of those rare films where almost every actor gets into character, which gives a smooth flow to the narration of the film & has a tight grip on the viewer attention.

The title 'Mulsi Pattern' refers to brutal killings carried out by gangster originating from Mulshi region who sold their farms to property developers & were rendered without any source of income. The film is based on rivalry of real-life gangsters Sandeep Mohol & Ganesh Marne gang.

Pravin Tarade has done a great job be it direction, story, screenplay, dialogues and acting too. Om Bhutkar is a gem that Marathi film industry has got. Everyone in the film deserves a stand-up. And special thanks to producers who supported this movie.

Blame It On Parvin Tarde's Nonlinear PATTERN
righttracksss2 December 2018
MULSHI PATTERN's trailer aroused feeling that it's not going to be just film but gaiety of dialogues medley, rustic action and intense performances however film has scarcity of celebration. There is no amalgamation between Pravin Tarde the writer, Pravin Tarde the screenplay writer and Pravin Tarde the director; blame it on non-linear story telling design. It does not help to establish the character of Rahulya played by Om Bhutkar as we keep meeting him on various vital junctures of his life. Linear story telling with few scenes of earlier part of his prosperous life may have done wonders as viewer would have witness the scaling graph of protagonist. Director has not given completeness to Om Bhutkar's scenes and feels like those are wrapped in haste. But scenes of Upendra Limaye are well shot, performed and also allotted the precise screen time require to convey the standpoint of his character Inspector Kadu. Cinematographer Mahesh Limaye's work is skilful in bits and pieces, even his camera work is also responsible for not establishing some of the scenes, camera moves in different direction when important lines are said.

From last ten years Om Bhutkar has provided meticulous performances in all the small and supportive roles he has played so far; EK CUP CHYA, MASALA, DEOOL, FASTER FENE are few films to name. Pravin Tarde's nonlinear "pattern" wrecks what could have been Om Bhutkar's breakthrough film.

Trailer misleads, muvi falls short to be average.
MuviFan735 September 2020
The muvi may be misleading.

Its how men turn gangsters and their fate after selling land due to modernisation.

It has nothing to do with farmer suicides in gram Maharashtra.

Average remake of Satya !
saptesh78630 June 2020
Just seen this title. Unfortunately I found it as average not as good as its publicity or popularity. It is an average story of a 'Bhai' ( situational criminal don) with 3 or 4 most melodrama sequences to attract common viewers. Nothing new or interesting. 8 star ratings are fake and unbelievable. Casting of Rahul is totally wrong, such guy should have better personality whereas Upendra Limye is perfect in his Inspector's role. Mahesh Manjrekar is in wasted role it should have more scope for his role and same to Mohan Joshi. Though story starting from Farmers' situation who sold their lands to builders and earned huge money but spent it totally in wasted way, director / story writer did not give us any solution to such problem instead they lead us to a typical criminal's story which we have seen so many times especially in South Indian movies and many Bollywood movies. This movie seems inspired by famous movie, ' Satya'. End is average it could have been better. Many sequences far away from reality like Rahul's sister working as maid, his father always carrying load of bags.

Probably the best criminal movies of Indian cinema
gsmart0713 January 2019
There were many criminal cinemas in India, but this one is special. No efforts for making main character larger than life, which makes this cinema more real. In regards with acting performance, everybody does their job well for making this cinema an unforgettable experience. Forte of the cinema is direction and dialogues, barring low budgets of Marathi cinema due to public's narrow response. This cinema doesn't look low budget at all, Credit goes to the director for this. In the end this cinema taught a lesson, Even though you are from poor background crime is not only way out of poverty. You can fight with your hard-work and discipline.

Absolute Masterpiece.
nemaderahul19 November 2021
Don't understand why there are a few negative reviews about this movie. Either such people lack the understanding of a movie making process, or they just plainly write negative reviews of something they personally don't like or weren't expecting.

This movie is a fantastic example of how entertaining a movie can be and the same time have an engaging story to tell. The storyline sticks to the real issue of how the land mafia dominates the lives of small time land owners around cities in India especially farmers who find it lucrative to earn quick money by selling their lands and not realizing the long terms effects of such decisions.

Watch yourself and do find out. You won't regret for sure.

Good but could have been better
parag_nandgaonkar18 January 2019
After watching first 30 minutes I thought this going to be a masterpiece, but as the story progresses it looses the charm it created. Cons : Editing, repeated slow motion scenes, excessive violence, love story not glorified and left aside midway. Pros : Uniqueness in the plot, performances, the truth or the reality farmers facing after selling lands to the builders-land mafias and the message given to the society at the end. Even though it could have been better, it is a very good movie to watch under crime, action genre.

Story telling, climax and screenplay is awesome ..... little slow sometimes.

When rahul tries to kill family in hotel, when he tells his father to smile ... these scenes are lit.

A good concept gone haywire. Avoidable
amanrajabali29 January 2021
The concept and story is good but I guess the writer, the director and hence the actors got confused midway and seems to have somehow reached their destination of completing this project. Terribly made film. Good senior actors like Mohan Joshi, Mahesh Manjrekar are wasted...am not sure why may have agreed to be part of this mayhem. And the talented Upendra Limaye seems to be getting type-casted. Alas!!!

It is best to avoid this one and save your precious time and peace of mind.

A hardcore and loud mediocrity strictly for regional B grade masses.
SAMTHEBESTEST25 November 2021
Mulshi Pattern (2018) : Brief Review -

A hardcore and loud mediocrity strictly for regional B grade masses. I remember watching this film in 2018, right after one week of Classic Naal. That time Marathi cinema was doing reasonably fine, with expected ups and downs and this film suddenly came as a hard-core massy film in the midst of regular dramas. So of course it caught attention because of local touch and the actual issue related to the farmers in Pune. Well, the topic was really good but the film wasn't. It hardly made an average film out of important subject which i think is certainly underwhelming. Marathi cinema was never so loud except for low budget massy flicks and this was way too loud and low grade standard film considering its budget. Nevertheless, it kept me interested for some time but then the same predictability, like i have seen in Vaastav and Shootout, and Mulshi Pattern went downstairs. I still say the subject was good but the presentation was outdated. Om Bhutkar as gangster was convincing and thank God for that whereas Upendra Limaye was terrific in his extended cameo role. The entire cast was pretty new but still looked decent, which i didn't really expected at the beginning. Music was made for tapori audience who love dancing on crazy songs during functions and ceremonies so it added a little boost to the overall gesture of the film. The screenplay was quite similar to what I have seen in 'Dagadi Chaal', the look-out was also similar to that film or can i say it was inspired from it? Pravin Tarde's cameo seemed practically convincing but not theoretically, however, i must add that the way it ended was really good despite being highly predictable. Overall, a strictly average film with outdated storyline and mediocre presentation but the relevance to 'Mulshi Issue' made that connect to B grade masses. I never really belonged to that category so you can count me out if the list is made on how many people have liked the film.

RATING - 5/10*
