Separate stories are hurting the episodes
lukebernstein313 April 2019
Reds scenes in the episode we're good. But the blacklister storylines aren't working anymore. I don't know if the writers are keeping red separate from those stories on purpose but it is hurting the show. Red hardley ever gets invovled with the cases anymore so it feels like your watching two completely different shows. Remember the good old days when red would actually get involved in the case? Or had a monolouge with the villian at the end? It happened a lot in season 3. Some of the best episodes are episodes when red actually gets involved in the case or meets the villian. I have still really liked this season though but the split stories are hurting the show. I was hoping that red would have something to do with the blacklister storyline or meet the villian. But no. More of the same. Reds story is mostly contained in his scenes and when he's not there they focus on Lady luck and red is just no where to be seen. Can't they tie the two stories together somehow? Great episodes have been when red is actually involved in the case. Pilot The freelancer Wujing The stewmaker Anslo Garrik Berlin Alistair Pitt All of those I just listed are great. I could this more to. Red actually gets involved in the cases . Why can't we have that more often? He's the main charector . He should be involved in the story of the week more.

On a rampage

The blacklister itself was not very captivating per say - it wasn't bad, but we've seen much better. It's Reddington's storyline that makes the episode solid, proving once again that he is not to be trifled with. The fear in poor Smokey's eyes during the plane ride was precious, as was Red's tone, and its change during his monologue.

I do wish the episodes become more intertwined again; I miss that from earlier seasons. Besides the minor tie-in of reddington to the Blacklister story at the start, the stories felt separated. It's not awful, and there was still a connection, but it generally makes the episodes more streamlined and powerful if they're actually parallel storylines, and not just ones that happen to take place at the same time.

Picking Up the Pieces
Hitchcoc1 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Reddington decides it's time to go after the opportunists that used what he had to move ahead while he was in prison. He also has not given up on finding who turned him in to the police. There are more brutal, cold-blooded killings than we have seen in a long time. The main plot involves a woman who goes by the name Lady Luck. Her MO is to pay off people's gambling debts and get them to kill someone with the same affliction. The whole thing involves a tragic event after a huge influx of money. There is a tension building as Dembe, who knows who turned Red in, is not letting his mentor know. We also have a new person of evil.

Spader in rare form...
forgotten707-115 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I can tie a cherry stem in my mouth, but James Spader knows how to chew up dialogue and spit it out into a thousand origami cranes. The way his vocal tones change with the darkening of his eyes and demeanor in this episode is astounding, and the writers gave him some excellent lines.

The trial is over (thank the Heavens) and Red is back to being the feared, respected, and terrifying person we know him to be. Forget the "who is he really" storyline, he's RAYMOND REDDINGTON and episodes like this show it. I was literally sitting on the edge of my chair watching those scenes. Don't really know what else happened with lady luck, I was too busy processing everything else.

Phenomenal show back on track, and I'm so happy they're giving us a 7th season!

Phenomenal episode. Best since final ep of season 1. Great acting, clever and intricate, yet still simple and easy to follow story. And wow - that ending!

After years of no fake special effects ...

.... They resorted to those obnoxious grainy, jerky action scenes that almost had me quit on the show after season one.
